  • How the view of the City of London has radically changed between 2001 and 2023 including 22 Bishopsgate, Horizon 22, 8 Bishopsgate, The Gherkin, The Cheese Grater, the Walkie Talkie, NatWest or Tower 42, St Paul's Cathedral, The Barbican Estate, The Monument to the Great Fire of London, Custom House and the Tower of London.
In this video I will cover how the skyline has changed and also how it has remained unchanged, from the very new 22 Bishopsgate to the very old Tower of London including some history and old maps.
Please stay to the end for all the detail.
I hope you enjoy, please like and subscribe, thank you for watching Eclectic Experience change seen through images.
Zooming in in London we will be Looking at this view over the River Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge.
Looking a bit closer we can see a large part of this view is dominated by older buildings - Tower of London and Custom House.
The Tower of London has been prominent on the London Skyline since the Norman conquest - nearly a 1000 years ago with the White Tower or Keep being the oldest part.
This hasn't changed and in recent times neither has Custom House also right next to the river. It is a Grade 1 listed building from the early 19th century.
Both the Tower of London and Custom House can be seen here on this early map from the 1850s and in a bit more detail on this map from 1896.
It is looking behind them that the real change can be seen.
This is a photograph I took in 2001 from Tower Bridge.
