I like how Godzilla went from a dark metaphor on the atomic bomb where he looks like a mushroom cloud that has scales to look like a burn victim to "I'm going to beat the shit out of a lobster"
I swear to god from what my parents tell me my first word was Godzilla ( I didn’t pronounce it right ) and my first spelled word was Godzilla this was before I was even in preschool, they still talk about it to this day
My first Godzilla movie was when I was very young too, it was actually the '98 Zilla film. I have gone through and watched a lot of the Heisei movies, only two left on that list to watch, and all of the Millennium and after movies. This video really is amazing.
If yall team kong srry for saying this but if your team godzilla you gonna love ok here it goes "remember reject monke, praise lizard" sorry again kong fans im just a big fan of godzilla
@Khimera Athletics hey may not be fun at least you got the opportunity to teach someone (me) something new because when it came to history in school I never bothers paying attention lol. Thank you for the knowledge
@@dragula131 Yeah and do you see it as a mistake like I do for my self? So anytime you view something you're really into now a days you try to take in as much knowledge as you can?
I would pretty much agree, but that one in the late 90's/ early 00's with Matthew Broderick though....... when Godzilla was a T-Rex basically and laid babies and all that.....
@@grantslater861 I liked it too even though it wasn’t the same Godzilla, but that’s the first one I knew of. What I can appreciate is that the 98 Godzilla is not even close to the actual Godzilla which is a lot stronger than the 98 one.
Bruh, when they made those movies, did you not notice what they did to him? They ruined him! They literally made a big bulge on his head and made him look like Barney!
52 year old lifelong Godzilla/Kaiju fan here and I must say that this video is a fantastic effort!!! Accurate, well paced and informative, this should be shown as an actual documentary. I know the rights with Toho and such is almost impossible to deal with but your effort here is simply outstanding!!! From a longtime Godzilla fan and amateur historian on the subject....BRAVO!!!! Long live the King!!!
17:25-17:33 Yo imagine how this guy in Japan must feel knowing that HIS character that he drew in elementary school was brought to the big screen fighting a giant monster along side Godzilla.
I'm sure it felt great at the time, but by now he probably feels cheated knowing he gave up an Icon for next to nothing. I don't think it's a coincidence they chose Children to give them Free Material indefinitely. 🤣
I think the original Gojira is a film as classic and as memorable as the universal monster classics,’Frankenstein, Dracula’. The reason I think Godzilla will last forever, and I think many will agree, is that he can take any meaning, whether he is just a monster, an allegory for nuclear weapons, or a simple of mans destructive nature. For these reasons he will live forever, as the King of the Monsters
That weird shy guy - I think alot of people who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s have a different appreciation for Godzilla. We grew up with it. My lil sister's hubby thinks their stupid, but he didn't watch them as a kid. He's more serious and doesn't have as good a sense of humor as we do. I watch them because it will bring back memories of my childhood. Monster week on the 4:30 movie was Kaiju heaven as far as I was concerned. Creature Features and Chiller Theater on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, especially during the cold winters we get in the tri state are. My dad was a huge fan.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I watched the 1954 Godzilla for the first time as an adult, I wouldn't compare it to the Universal Monsters as much as I would compare it to a Hitchcock or Orson Welles movie. The performances are sophisticated, the symbolism is genuinely powerful. The subsequent movies may have been b-movie schlock, but the original Godzilla is a beautiful piece of cinema.
Wow...I saw "the evolution of Godzilla" and clicked, thinking it was going to be a short 8 minute video showing the different forms and stuff, the movies and whatnot. I'd have been satisfied. But you...you shocked me. Almost an hour of amazing content that EVERY Godzilla or even monster movie fan should see. Deserves a ton of views, I can tell you put a WHOLE LOT into this. So thank you💯
@@JustinSVA One thing is missing though: the notes on the films 'climate' and important plot points. Heisei series for example was much more dramatic than any other Godzilla movie but 1954 and Shin, moreover it put more effort into Godzilla's facial acting even than later movies, and had several moments that concentrated on Godzilla's psyche and drama, sans the poor human acting and unpolished scripts.
I hadn't spent that much time watching Godzilla movies... Until about 2 weeks ago, when I decided to binge them all. ALL of them. Even the movies not necessarily directly related to Godzilla, but would be later on. 49 movies, in 2 weeks.
"Wanted nothing to do with godzilla" Oh my god... is there any wonder someone would fail at adapting if they had no heart in it? And his end comment was just low
Seriously, what a pompous knucklehead! "I want to use the name, with literally none of the traits that define Godzilla" It's idiots like this that ruin franchises.
19:30 Man just that shot alone invokes a lot of somber emotions. This was Godzilla's final movie back in the Showa era and instead of him going out with a bang like he did in Destroy All Monsters or even in the previous movie, he's just wading in the water ever so slowly with his movements looking tired as the sun sets. While Destroy All Monsters is said to be the final film of the show era (in universe) this movie was a really sad way to end his career. 31:58 Welp, If Ishiro Honda didn't die of old age, the 98 Godzilla film would have broken his heart and did the deed :/
Spoilers below: Shin Godzilla was amazing. I am not entirely sure about the human looking hybrid stuff coming out of the tail at the end, but I absolutely loved the origin as some weird ocean amoeba that mutates, tadpoles and evolves throughout the movie. Even the derpy looking legless salamander form was intimidating in its recklessness (and lets face it, adolescent amphibious creatures are big eyed and derpy looking, so it was realistic). All around he was just badass. A lot of people took issue with the American stealth bombers being able to injure his back, but they forget that he is still evolving into the true Shin Godzilla. I say true "Shin" Godzilla because even while vulnerable, this creature was insanely destructive - not world ending Burning Godzilla levels, but damn. His beam was insane, like more of a cutting laser weapon rather than the explode on contact stuff he had before - instantly slicing through the city as he attempted to control himself (it looked like once he started, he couldn't really contain his own destructive output yet - after all this is implied to be this Godzilla's first ever atomic breath). Anyway the point about him still evolving - you can tell from his skin that with each evolution (at least with the last one), the dark armor like skin was covering more of the red, exposed fleshy tissue he almost exclusively had when he first appeared. Where the bombs hit on his spine is still red, exposed flesh (you can literally see it). He's not done evolving yet. Speculation stuff: I also think this is why he can shoot his beams from his tail and his spines (or rather, between his spines) - I think it is literally bursting through his skin from wherever it is generated, which is then healed after. The tip of the tail looks extremely fleshy throughout the entire movie even when most of it is covered by his new, blackish armor skin. So the energy can funnel through the armored section of his tail and burst from the still unarmored tip. Same thing with the crazy back lasers - his spine is still very exposed (as seen by the bombs damaging him) and so the power is blasting randomly through whatever fleshy bits it escapes from - when his mouth was closed and he stomped, the energy could only burst from his exposed, fleshy back (which served his purpose of shooting into the sky). You notice that when he started shooting his breath, he could not stop until he fully unloaded and then "shut down" so to speak. Even though it was directed at his threat initially, afterwards he seemed to randomly spew what remained throughout the city before his quick hibernation, and he chose to do so through his mouth and tail - probably because he damages himself less that way. As for his actual armor, if the above is correct - then his skin is not actually evolving to protect him from external damage so much as to keep his own internal energy/nuclear power or whatever contained. In fact I'd wager the event that set his evolutionary cycle off in the first place is continually damaging him (energy buildup, etc.), while also continually healing him and evolving him to resist this damage/his own power. It's evolving to protect itself, from itself, in a way, which will inevitably result in some ultimate final form until, like Burning Godzilla, it melts down in its own personal entropy. Funny enough, even though there doesn't seem to be a direct relation - Monster Planet's Godzilla looks like it could be a final evolution for Shin. If you look at the sort of striatic and unnatural way the skin is laid out, and how it's otherwise very rock-like in texture, and compare it to Shin's final form in his movie, it seems quite similar. Even his teeth now look less like actual teeth and more like evolved protrusions, which would follow the evolutionary cycle Shin seemed to abide by. I doubt this is the case, but it's still a cool potential representation of Shin's maybe-next-form. EDIT ::: Sorry for editing this into a novel. I have a bad habit of posting, *then* proof reading, and editing, over and over again until satisfied. Not sure why that habit started, but yeah lol.
Whoops, forgot one very important thing that changes the Tail speculation a little bit (not the spines though). His tail had a face on the end of it, before the stuff at the end of the movie. Kind of its own organism in a way - so that's why he could shoot a beam from the tip, not just because it's fleshy/unprotected and thus bursting through it. I don't think that he has faces between his spines though, lol, but I could be wrong. It would be cool to see him fight against monsters that were once a part of him, and evolved differently. Like maybe his Tail breaks off at some point (he will regrow one) and become Ghidorah or something. It is nearly as massive as he is, after all (and a bit longer). In a way it would also reference the "Shin" part of his name.
Finally! Someone who get's the whole background of shin being an unkillable/evolving organism. It will never stop evolving. and the yashiori plan (coagulation freeze plan) is just a short term solution, because after goro maki giving them a riddle (the oragami riddle and ang a message saying "do as you please") is a clear indication that the professor knows that there is no long term solution in killing shin gojira but they can only stop it, temporarily. That's why shin gojira is a masterful film.
Bro there are no words to do this video justice. I have to say in my honest opinion it's the best you could ever get if you wanted to learn about Godzilla. I was so enthralled with all this knowledge you were dropping that an hour video passed me by and I didn't even notice haha. It was a superb video my friend. 11/10 in my book This video was just that good :)
The Cynical Cypher Anytime man. You deserve it for the work you put into this my friend. Thank you for making this very comprehensive video on the history and inspiration for Gojira/Godzilla the King of Monsters!
I appreciate that you didn't knock some of the older versions of Godzilla, but stated what they were and how they were viewed. This was well made and fun to watch.
This is an absolutely fantastic video- an incredible retrospective of one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. Great job, friend- absolutely great job. If the Academy Awards had a segment for RUclips videos, I would definitely nominate this for it’s quality of research, writing, and presentation. (Boy, can you tell that I really liked this video?) About three minutes in, and I had already hit the “like” button and subscribed to your channel- that’s a rarity for me. I have a lot of great Saturday afternoon childhood memories of watching Godzilla movies with my older brother and sister- it’s been about 40 years but those are some of my favorite memories. I had “Godzilla vs Megalon” on VHS 2 separate times, and wore out the tape on both of them from repeatedly watching them! My friends and I would drunkenly sing the “Jet Jaguar” theme at parties, laughing like loons- these movies were great for the imagination while growing up, and remained a lot of fun even as an adult. So- I’m sorry for the “War And Peace”-length comment, but I just wanted to tell you how incredibly enjoyable I found this video to be. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us, and for giving Godzilla the attention he deserves. Cheers!
I heard this too, I also heard that they stood up and cheered a lot just for seeing Godzilla kickass again on screen. This is a GOOD sign as it was a seal of approval by the TOHO producers themselves.
@Aspiring Marauder a nuck destorys citys and kills thousands possible millions of it was the right city, all of those actions can be blamed on the government, NOT it's people. They can't help that they live there, to say they deserve to be nucked is to say thousands deserve to die because of there corrupt government.
jj the waffle the bomb might not have been dropped had translation been better. When asked about the possible surrender, the person I’ve forgotten said “no comment”, which was mistranslated by the American translators as, “not worthy of comment”.
Godzilla for me is someone who I loved as a kid and still adore to this present day. When I felt weak and defenseless I'd remember how Godzilla was this unstoppable force of nature that couldn't be judged. I know this sounds stupid but he was a metaphor for me and still is. Don't fucking give up, no matter what impossible odds are before you, you will power through it.
Well done! I'm sitting here watching a Godzilla Marathon on TV, 66 years after his debut. That's what you call star power! This was an excellent guide to the history and mythology.
This is the content that I love on RUclips, a in depth analysis about everything Godzilla you could ask for, taken time to make. Easily one of the best videos on RUclips.
Me too. I'm a 56 year old from East Harlem and grew up on Godzilla. One of rhe few reasons I'd want to live to 100+ is just to watch every Godzilla film that will inevitably be made😊
This is hands down my favorite video of Godzilla on RUclips, my god is this very well made and in depth! I always rewatch this video all the time. Amazing job on this honestly man i love it
I'm in college right now and I've had a Godzilla poster since I can remember thoughts. it's been through alot of times. i have it hanging on my wall now as I'm graduating college. during high school I was working at a picture framing company and used my skills to frame it up and made it brilliant looking. i got it from my uncle on one of my dinosaur themed birthdays when I was just a little kid. today I learn exactly what movie it came from. thank you, I'm glad to know it was in fact "Godzilla Vs destroyah", by your account one of the most well received in the series and the one where supposedly Godzilla DIES for good (shin Godzilla happens to be my favorite regardless). thank you for bringing something that has been in my life for decades to life. it is the work of youtubers like you that can keep our history in perspective.
@@JustinSVA of course! you deserve it for all the hard work you put into this amazing video. I'm actually just rented the movie tonight because of this!
Great job. Much of this I was not aware of. Amazing how this character has lasted so long and is still popular. Who would have thought the campy Godzilla movies I remember from childhood would still be popular today.
I think the end of Godzilla vs destroyah wasn't meant to symbolize a sequal, but to symbolize that the legend of Godzilla would still live on with godzilla jr representing that legacy
I loved this. Thanks for bringing all this together in a very comprehensive and enjoyable way. I liked all the little known background histories that made this so interesting. Long Live the King!
Sadly, I *do* believe we would've gotten something a bit better if Devlin was heading the project instead - hell, maybe they should've just locked Emmerich out completely. Imagine 'Zilla' with all of Godzilla's powers? (A.K.A. Godzilla TAS but even stronger) I would've gone insane as a kid if that was my introduction to the franchise. But instead, it was G : TAS, which made me convince my mom to buy the movie, and........................ It was different, to say the least. Everything else was ok, but I wanted the atomic breath. =D
What an incredible video, so much effort was done and it very well made. Not only that, but I have had a love and deep connection with Godzillla since I watched so many of his movies when I was younger, with my first Godzilla movie being “Godzilla vs King Ghidorah”, and whenever a brand new Godzilla comes in, I will view a childhood monster I loved for a majority of my life. Even though I grew most of my Godzilla love with the Heisei Era (and i have an attachment with the era close to my heart bc it introduced me to the King of the Monsters) I have rewatched every single movie in the Showa and the original. But in general, this is a well crafted and done video and it deserves very much the credit for how it explains the most beloved monster in all of cinema.
This video alone has made me sub to your channel. Godzilla is to me, and I'm sure to you and countless others, more than a movie monster: he is a childhood legacy full of awesome action, a symbol of hope, and a symbol of nature coming back to wreak havoc on humanity for the atrocities set forth by atomic energy and weapons. Godzilla will go down in history as one of the most cultural icons in human history, not just in cinema history too. But the sad and amazingly shocking truth behind my adoration for Godzilla is that I NEVER would have known about Godzilla if it hadn't been for Zilla in '98. Comparing the films, I still hold Godzilla 1998 in its own light as a movie that opened a world up to me that I shall always gush over. Zilla was always a terrible Godzilla, but the film itself wasn't at all too horrendous in my eyes. I saw it as a popcorn film, with no brains needed, and all it being a roller-coaster film, not a philosophical nightmare (nightmare in the sense of what Godzilla stands for). So while I now look back and laugh at the Zilla production, I have to hold it closest to me and endearingly put it first in my line because its the best friend that never let me down, the navigation path that never led me astray, but led me to better routes. Needless to say, you put a shit ton of time dissecting Godzilla's history, influence on humanity and what humanity has influenced on Godzilla's legacy. So I thank you for recognizing something that is more than a metaphor to atomic horrors or just a gigantic monster: he is a cultural icon, Japan's historical landmark to the horrors of man. He is too, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Also a side note, I am ecstatic for what Legendary is going to do with the sequels to Godzilla 2014, and what Netflix is doing with Godzilla as an anime trilogy/series of films, and Shin Godzilla being more CGI than ever and offering another new arch in Godzilla's true Toho/Japanese routes.
The music of the original Godzilla film is still one of my favorite sci-fi soundtracks of all times. Up there with BH's of Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Thanks so much for making this! I recently grabbed the criterion blu ray to take a trip down memory lane, but now I'm diving deep. Fantastic job dude keep up the good work!
Hello there, everyone! Just wanted to take some time to correct a few mistakes and give some clarifications considering I've gotten a few messages about them. - Firstly, some people have been trying to tell me that I have been incorrectly stating the release of the original Gojira. As far as I can see, I got this one correct. It was released in 1954 as I state in the few. A few people have mistook my opening statement in the "Gojira Origins" segment, that being "It all began in 1945". - Second, I made a mistake mentioning the winner of the battle of Godzilla vs. King Kong. Officially, there is NO winner in either regard. This was a rumor spread around at the time and it looks like I unfortunately was caught in the web. So apologies for that oversight. - Next, I do talk about Godzilla 1998 being a hated film, but just because that is the case does not at all mean that you can't like the movie. Don't feel bad or ashamed for liking it at all. If you like it, that's your taste and you're not wrong for having it. The segment in the video isn't meant to completely rail on the movie, but to show the reception it got and transition that discussion to the next segment. - Also, I have been told by a few that King Ghidorah and Kaiser Ghidorah are not the same thing. I'm still not entirely sure if this is the case, but I don't want to mislead any of you because of it. So just know that there is a possibility that they are meant to be completely different monsters. - Oh, and that reminds me. I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THE MISPRONUNCIATIONS. I don't know how and I don't know why, but the thought of Googling around the find how to pronounce these monster's names correctly completely passed me by and I think this is one of my biggest mistakes. I just kind of sounded it out and never really batted an eye towards it. Sincere apologies for this one. - Lastly, and here's the big one, in no way do I condone the actions the Japanese committed and in no way believe that the Japanese didn't have any fault in WWII. Thanks for reading and if I catch anything else, I'll be sure to update or respond to this post! *Edit* - Another correction: In Mothra vs. Godzilla, Mothra did not lay two eggs before its death, but one egg that spawned two larvae.
King Ghidorah and Kaiser Ghidorah are different monsters. Kaiser is monster X and nearly defeated Godzilla, While King has been beaten by Godzilla many times, and some times without it being very hard. What I'm getting at is Kaiser would Shit stomp King without much efferot. Though they are the same race or species.
The 1998 "Godzilla" was basically them being trying to have a dick measuring contest with Jurassic Park. I mean it has far too many similarities, and if that crushing the T-rex skeleton thing was indeed an indication, it's pretty clear they were too insecure with their film and only slapped on the title "Godzilla" because it was more marketable despite having nothing to do with Godzilla at all. Indicating that what success it did have, was thanks ONLY to that. If it had been renamed "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" which is far more of an accurate title as it's more that film than Godzilla, or given any other title, it'd have failed even more.
DunDeeoZ Actually, King Kong and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms started off that genre. Godzilla was just the film that really popularized it, especially in Japan.
That’s the basic truth of his logic a dildo measuring contest with Jurassic park getting more of a positive stand point than the frog legged iguana looking Godzilla which was a piece of disrespect for the character
It's so sad how they even had real Godzilla suit and a script involving another kaiju fight, all of that thrown to the trash becasue Emmerich thought it was ''dumb''.
This was an amazing video. The feeling and vibe throughout the video was amazing with the Aid of the music and your commentary/ narrative. Awesome, subscribed and will look forward to your videos. Keep it up.
I've been a fan of Godzilla for a long time and have seen most of the movies, so when I saw this video show up in my feed, I had to watch it. And now,... Subbed! After seeing the thought and effort you put into the history of Godzilla, you are someone worth following and watching.
this was very well made and well paced, xD i didn't even know that it was an hour long cuz i was entranced by how well you introduced and explained each and every segment. owob i can't wait to see what your thoughts are on the animated godzilla movie if and when you decide to make one in the future, xD
My grandma loves the Raymond Burr version of Godzilla. I love both versions, but I feel like the original is much better. But regardless, we both truly love these movies.
Sorry to crap on your corn flakes but the Raymond burr one is just a lazy abomination hes just mashed into scenes from the original. (Also your grandma is awesome)
My grandma grew up in the 50's, and the American version was what introduced her to the franchise. As VHS and DVD came into existence, she shared this franchise with me. Whether or not the American version is good or not, I'm grateful to it for bringing me and my grandma close together, and close to this beloved series.
I’m sure my friends get tired of the many times I’ll randomly bring up Godzilla. I brought him up so much one of them asked why I talked about a giant monster so much. I told them that watching Godzilla movies was the one time out of the entire day when no one bothered me. When homework didn’t cloud my mind. When my parents didn’t get on my ass for something I didn’t know I did wrong (at the time I was around 7 or 8). Watching Godzilla movies was awesome at a young age. I didn’t know this wasn’t real. I thought Planet X and Monster Zero were out there in space. I always wondered what if Godzilla walked over here instead of staying in Japan. I always thought we’d be invaded by giant Cockroaches or alien Gorillas. Now I’m 21, still a huge fan, getting Godzilla shirts for Christmas, gift cards to the comic book shop and buying myself a collection of Godzilla films. I’ll probably act like a child, shaking with excitement when I’m an old man, either watching a Godzilla movie at home, or a new movie in theaters. I’ll raise my kid on all these old cheesy movies about a fire breathing monster.
I'm 65 and I still love Godzilla. I just did a rewatch of the 98 movie the other day. While there were things I didn't like about it (sorry it did look like a T-Rex and those were pretty darn close to being baby raptors), it was still a fun film and I liked it. I can never really not like a Godzilla film. I loved the 2014 and the 2019 films. I feel like a big kid when I see them. I don't think I'll ever get tired of them. I hope you feel the same way when you're old and gray too.
I'm the same age as you. I used to have the same exact love for Gojira. Although that love has shifted over to a Gundam Hobby lol. Keep up the passions!
Too much on the endings on each films, too little on script quality, execution, general climate of the films and crucial ideas. I've watched some of those and they were totally different even when they appear the same from the description in this vid. There is literally no comparision between each 'series' and often between each movie in each. Heisei era films for example were very dramatic, overall rather poorly done but with some excellent ideas and Godzilla scenes were very polished, in contrast to the scenes featuring human characters. In Millenium the 2000 was pretty good though corny, while vs. Megaguirus just screamed out how low the budget must have been. And Final Wars... Well, lets just state that one of the main characters was Joseph Stalin commanding a giant flying drill.
I’m 30 and have always been a Godzilla fan. I’ve seen every movie. My favorite movie has to be the 2019 Godzilla king of the monsters. But every movie is amazing In it’s own right. The hesei era is my favorite
God,I've watched this at least 4 times already.never get tired of it.Great job man! This is some professional stuff I'd expect to see on discovery channel or something.
8:10: I'm not wanting to aruge, but rather point out that this statement is simply incorrect. The initial American release was hugely popular and critically praised, so much in fact that the Japanese re-released it back in Japan and the people fell in love with that version as well. In addition to the former mentioned, King of the Monsters stands out positively for two other reasons: it was the first film released in the West that painted the Japanese in a positive and heroic light, and the overall message of the bomb and humanity's destruction does remain intact. The mention of the dropping of the bomb as the reviver of Godzilla/Gojira is plain and simple, the connections to Japanese folklore and that unique heritage is present, and the mourning children's choir will always be hauntingly chilling, as is the bittersweet ending; six-year-old me took in the meaning of war and the casualties quite easily upon my first viewing of this ages ago, and both versions still heavily resonate now. Other than this, I am enjoying the video so far. It is great to see the history of one of my favorite franchises be explored on this level.
Neil Gibbons what’s wrong with u? This video is outdated and just needs a 20 minute part 2 that includes the anime trilogy and KOTM. Doesn’t matter if u like those previous things or not they are still Godzilla and always will be.
THE FUCK YOU SAY.. DON'T YOU EVER MENTION THE NAME ZILLA EVER AGAIN... I DO NOT WANT TO REMEMBER THAT HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MOVIE. Although if you're talking about the Kong versus Godzilla movie I'm very excited
Well done... One of my earliest memories is seeing the Burr version, it made an impression on me that has lasted to this day. The original when I finally got to see it blew me away. Godzilla has remained one of my favorite monsters. You forgot Bambi vs Godzilla 😉
That's not even close to being a fair fight. We've got one chubby dinosaur versus an immortal eldritch power. The battle would be about thirty seconds long, and let's just say that Godzilla would regret starting on Cthulhu for the rest of his very short existence.
Just got here waiting eagerly for KOTM Blu-ray. Saw it in theaters twice as well as Godzilla in 2014. I've been a fan of Godzilla since I was 5. King of the monsters was the most fun I had in theaters and made me feel like a kid again. King of the monsters is what 1998 should of been but 21 years later we got a director who was a fan and gave us a movie the fans love.
My Man. Growing Up with these Movies. You have just earned my Subscription loved your commentary and your info on all things Godzilla. Can't wait for more on this Franchise! Thank You for your Hard Time Working to make this Video!
Terrifically well made and researched video of THE giant monster of the century who has inspired fear, awe, admiration, and comes with a warning of power gone awry! My favorite Godzillas have been: 5. Shin Gojira: Besides returning to it's roots as a giant, malevolent monster, Godzilla really looks terrifying in his final form! 4. Godzilla 2000: Godzilla returns, combining a newer design with elements from the original. 3. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah: an iconic version of Godzilla, but seething with radioactive anger ready to avenge his son! Who doesn't like a giant monster, but on fire? 2. Legendary Godzilla: this version of Godzilla finally looks like it could be a creature from Earth and is by far the most realistic looking version ever. 1.Godzilla vs. Mothra: a combination of old and new designs, this version of Godzilla was the first fully realized Godzilla. The movements of the suit actually work in portraying a giant monster. The face and animatronics give us a Godzilla that not only looks fearsome, but one that actually connects with the audience. It really give us Godzilla in all his glory without anything extra in the design!
I could say that I have seen a pretty good amount of Godzilla's evolution over the years, but when it comes to choosing any favorites well I only have 2. The style from the 1998 movie and the style from the 2014 movie, but now thanks to the new 2019 movie I now have a completely new perspective on Godzilla's look. And I honestly couldn't be any happier. The same thing goes for Mothra, my favorite styles for her are obviously her looks through her rebirth movies. But once again thanks to the new movie my perspective on her has also completely changed, even with Rodan too. And also Kong when he got his new movie, for all 4 of my favorite titans my perspective has changed. But all for the better. I really couldn't be any happier for any of them!
I like how Godzilla went from a dark metaphor on the atomic bomb where he looks like a mushroom cloud that has scales to look like a burn victim to "I'm going to beat the shit out of a lobster"
And one shot a condor
@Katie Lewis maybe, but it introduced some of the greatest monsters like gigan, mechagodzilla........ AND MOTHERFUCKIN JET JAGUAR!
😂🤣😂🤣

Yo imagine how this guy in Japan must feel knowing that HIS character that he drew in elementary school was brought to the big screen fighting a giant monster along side Godzilla.
I'm jealous
Jet Jaguar is one of my favorites I hope he was pleased with himself 😊
Yes
I was very pleasantly surprised when I watched the 1954 Godzilla for the first time as an adult, I wouldn't compare it to the Universal Monsters as much as I would compare it to a Hitchcock or Orson Welles movie. The performances are sophisticated, the symbolism is genuinely powerful. The subsequent movies may have been b-movie schlock, but the original Godzilla is a beautiful piece of cinema.
That weird shy guy Well Said, well said

@@JustinSVA One thing is missing though: the notes on the films 'climate' and important plot points. Heisei series for example was much more dramatic than any other Godzilla movie but 1954 and Shin, moreover it put more effort into Godzilla's facial acting even than later movies, and had several moments that concentrated on Godzilla's psyche and drama, sans the poor human acting and unpolished scripts.

Man just that shot alone invokes a lot of somber emotions.
31:58
Welp, If Ishiro Honda didn't die of old age, the 98 Godzilla film would have broken his heart and did the deed :/
Spoilers below:
Shin Godzilla was amazing.
Speculation stuff:
I also think this is why he can shoot his beams from his tail and his spines (or rather, between his spines) - I think it is literally bursting through his skin from wherever it is generated, which is then healed after.

What an incredible video, so much effort was done and it very well made.
FatalGecko58 Thanks for the love, man. Means a lot.
FatalGecko58 a
This video alone has made me sub to your channel.
This is easily one of the best RUclips videos I’ve ever watched, idk how many times I’ve watched it at this point

*Edit*
- Another correction: In Mothra vs. Godzilla, Mothra did not lay two eggs before its death, but one egg that spawned two larvae.

The Cynical Cypher how do you lay an eye might I ask?
Isaiahdudes 0516 Easy! You let autocorrect spell for you! (Thanks for that catch, lol)
The Cynical Cypher lol it’s ok man
King Ghidorah and Kaiser Ghidorah are different monsters.
Facts
DunDeeoZ Actually, King Kong and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms started off that genre. Godzilla was just the film that really popularized it, especially in Japan.
98 Godzilla was horrible I was mad when I left the theater didn't even finish watching just left
That’s the basic truth of his logic a dildo measuring contest with Jurassic park getting more of a positive stand point than the frog legged iguana looking Godzilla which was a piece of disrespect for the character
It's so sad how they even had real Godzilla suit and a script involving another kaiju fight, all of that thrown to the trash becasue Emmerich thought it was ''dumb''.
idc what people say this is the best documentary i have seen
Actually the dragon in final wars is a new breed of ghidorah, and it’s called Kaiser Ghidorah.

This was an amazing video. The feeling and vibe throughout the video was amazing with the Aid of the music and your commentary/ narrative. Awesome, subscribed and will look forward to your videos. Keep it up.
BBoyDrkNova Thank you very much! Took months of careful planning, recording, and other things so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Welcome aboard, friend!
I’m here in June 2024 thanks to my son who loves dinosaurs, and now Godzilla. I can’t get enough Godzilla on Roku! Love the Japanese films making
I've been a fan of Godzilla for a long time and have seen most of the movies, so when I saw this video show up in my feed, I had to watch it.
And now,... Subbed! After seeing the thought and effort you put into the history of Godzilla, you are someone worth following and watching.
Dawg. This video is super good. Well done, fellow Godzilla fan.
This was a great watch. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I really enjoyed it.
This video is simply amazing, compliments to the editing and music placement, you did a really excelent work!
This Video was amazing. So much research and work you put into this. Just amazing. This Video deserves much more likes and views.
"So much research"????? You should look up the definition of "Research" and LIES. obama could run his mouth too and so many fell for it.

This is one of those videos you’ll constantly watch over and overr
this was very well made and well paced, xD i didn't even know that it was an hour long cuz i was entranced by how well you introduced and explained each and every segment. owob i can't wait to see what your thoughts are on the animated godzilla movie if and when you decide to make one in the future, xD
It's a Pheese Thank you very much! It's something I might do, but I'll have to see if what I think about it warrants a video.
My grandma loves the Raymond Burr version of Godzilla. I love both versions, but I feel like the original is much better. But regardless, we both truly love these movies.
Bryan Egelhoff's Animation Tech Nation I saw both versions.
Sorry to crap on your corn flakes but the Raymond burr one is just a lazy abomination hes just mashed into scenes from the original. (Also your grandma is awesome)
They asked raymond burr to ham up his performance in Godzilla returns....he refused becaus. He had too much respect for him...and what he stands for
My grandma grew up in the 50's, and the American version was what introduced her to the franchise.
Divine Goku Black this is a hearted comment, yet no one liked i- wait why is the like button blue, oh, wait.
All hail Godzilla and vtec!!!

This was an awesome and informative video. You really put the work in on this one. You got a like from me for sure.
Well then why are you watching a Godzilla video if you don’t like any of the movies
Who’s here in 2020 and wants an updated version
Oh my goodness No No No NNNNNNOOOOOOO I!!!!🤬🤬
Neil Gibbons Why not
They just made one wtf
Neil Gibbons what’s wrong with u? This video is outdated and just needs a 20 minute part 2 that includes the anime trilogy and KOTM. Doesn’t matter if u like those previous things or not they are still Godzilla and always will be.
Macro [GNSQD] not really it was just him giving his opinion on the anime trilogy
An EXCELLENT overview of Godzilla's history, and the cinematic and cultural importance of Godzilla. Excellent!
Who’s here during the release of the Kong vs Zilla trailer
Me LOL
Me☝️😂
Me
THE FUCK YOU SAY.. DON'T YOU EVER MENTION THE NAME ZILLA EVER AGAIN... I DO NOT WANT TO REMEMBER THAT HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MOVIE. Although if you're talking about the Kong versus Godzilla movie I'm very excited
Zilla? The Kaiju Godzilla smashed in seconds during final wars?
Well done... One of my earliest memories is seeing the Burr version, it made an impression on me that has lasted to this day. The original when I finally got to see it blew me away. Godzilla has remained one of my favorite monsters. You forgot Bambi vs Godzilla 😉
This video was a 100% worth 54 minutes of my time. great video loved every second of it
Kaiju protectors of Earth under Gaya's control vs. HP Lovecraft's Elder Gods....it has GOTTA HAPPEN!
Why?
Matt Channing cuz Godzilla vs Cthulu that's why
Fandom would be wonderful if it wasn't for fans.
But that wouldn't make sense
That's not even close to being a fair fight. We've got one chubby dinosaur versus an immortal eldritch power. The battle would be about thirty seconds long, and let's just say that Godzilla would regret starting on Cthulhu for the rest of his very short existence.
I cried at this video for the memories and sad history of Godzilla. Long live the King!
pog mo thoin712 long live the king
Gojira BANZAI!!!'
pog mo thoin712 LONG LIVE THE KING
So recently I got into Godzilla, and I'm watching these to find out what's good, but I also enjoy anime, and I heard Your Name, and I started sobbing.
Hey man this is phenomenal work put in. Thanks so much for making it. Im refreshing before i see king of the monsters!!!
Great video really interesting about my favorite movie monster
Godzilla vs mechagodzilla the UK and
Appvhcfcgv the children
Same
Channel Bryzilla 06 I agree with you wholeheartedly
Just got here waiting eagerly for KOTM Blu-ray. Saw it in theaters twice as well as Godzilla in 2014. I've been a fan of Godzilla since I was 5. King of the monsters was the most fun I had in theaters and made me feel like a kid again. King of the monsters is what 1998 should of been but 21 years later we got a director who was a fan and gave us a movie the fans love.
_King of the Monsters_ was a fucking masterpiece!
This was a fucking insanely good video Justin! Keep up the great work my dude c:
GOGORANDOMO Thanks, man! Will do!
"History shows again & again how nature points out the folly of man. Godzilla!"
I love the real world history and events included in this video, great job 👍
Amazed by this quality. I wish the best of luck for your small channel.
Raymond Rada Thanks, man! Let's hope for the best!
The West: oh, I'm feeling sad. Let's mourn.
Japan: Disaster?
*SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY*
This is so interesting!! I love the context of Godzilla with world history, I had no idea. Just fascinating. Great video!!!
My favorite Godzillas have been:
This was incredibly well put together.. thank you Cynical Justin!
