  • It's time for my start-of-the-year channel update vlog! Let's just pretend it's not already February. Why did January last for 2 years? Anyway, join me aboard a Triumph Street Triple R as I thank you all heartily for enjoying my history/touring bonanza, I'll also chat about this year's tour plans, bikes I'm riding and more. Oh, and I'm officially going to the launch of the Daytona 660 now so you can expect a sunny review of that from Spain.

Just got myself a 21 plate 1250RT, but spent hundreds of miles so far this year riding things like the Deauville for our local blood bikes group. Any time on two wheels is good for your mental health so no complaints, but I am itching to put more miles on my own bike. If only work didn’t keep getting in the way! Anyway lots of us enjoy your channel and I hope you pick up some no strings attached sponsorship. 🍻

My last bike (2006 Bonneville T100) was stolen during the pandemic. I thought at the time I'd hang up riding for good. Then when I was on a trip in British Columbia last summer I saw an 81 year old man winch an old Suzuki trail bike off his boat. He popped his 80 year old wife and elderly dog on the back and went for a 3 hour trail ride in the BC wilderness. At the end of last summer I picked up a 14 year old BMW F650GS (twin). I only got one good road trip in from Seattle to the BC interior. This summer I'm looking forward to several road trips on her. I think my first will be a route around the Olympic peninsula as soon as things dry up a bit.

Hoping to get a Street triple 765 or a ZX6R (having a time deciding) and take it down the 'route des grandes alpes'. Then maybe Monaco. After that either across France and northern Spain for the ferry back from Santander, or 'route napoleon' back north through France or into Italy->Switzerland->Germany stop at the 'ring, then Belgium->France->home. I'll see how the weather looks once I'm down south and play it by ear. If I'd enough time I'd defo go Switzerland then Austian passes. May be the year after I'll go that way. And then my IAM group's annual pilgrimage to Folembray in France, hopefully combined with some continental touring

Enjoyed the Vosges series so looking forward to more of those. We did a 4 day Normandy trip last year based at Port En Bessain taking in the D-Day sights which was great, going to miss out on the annual trip to Folembray Circuit with my local BMW dealer due to house move. But the consolation is a 2 week trip in Spain/Portugal in Sept 2up on my 1200RS , taking in Picos, Leon, Salamanca, Serra De Estrella, Duoro Valley, Porto, Santiago De Compostella & various bits of Galicia en route back to Santander. Kinda excited about that one...

Hey Tim, new bike year for me. Sold the last one at the end of its PCP. I’m bored with the Sunday hour or two usual circuits. I love sporty bikes so may do the same as you and go for the MT-10 since I practically live next door to a Yamaha dealership. Otherwise I’ll look at an S1XR or a Multi. Tbh there’s almost too much choice. Riding for 20+ years but never toured and wouldn’t know where to start. If you fancy having a middle-aged slightly OCD rider that also shares the same winning haircut along on one of your tours, I’d be interested! 😂 On BBB I saw the one in Bournemouth having gone to the Guildford one last year. IMHO it was ok but felt a bit too self-indulgent and I also agree with your comments. Looking forward to your channel this year mate. Cheers!

I’m extremely torn when it comes to bike 2.
Therefore I asked you in a newer video if an MT10 could be toured on with a pillion rider.
The Tiger 900GT or 1200 seems to be bought by people my age and above, hence I feel old at my tender age of 53.
A Moto Guzzi V100 would Mandello would have me feel cool, but at the same time it is heavy and is a 115 hp bike… but darn is it cool.
Then there is the Suzuki GSX S 1000 GT. 150 hp Gixxer. Cool and Is a tourer… Kawasaki is also something I’m thinking about.
So… not something that will make feel old-er and nothing that will have me and the misses feel sore after a few miles.
YES a Tiger, GS, Versys etc Has their pluses. Heated seats etc on the Tigers as standard (option for the GS=Extremely expensive) and might be an option for the Versys?
And then…. There is the Honda NT1000… tiz a Honda. Might be booting and underpowered but… A good deal price wise and the only with an auto option.
    Darn it, I don’t know.

Currently hatching a plan to ride my 43 year old Harley Davidson XLH100 Sportster from Newdigate (Nr Dorking surrey) to the towns of Gouvieux (France) Güglingen (Germany) and Sinalunga (Italy) which are the towns twinned with Dorking, for no other reason than I am bored shitless and need to increase the stress inconvenience and expense in my life (and to see what the towns are actually like of course). @@DucatiDale The Transalp is top of my list, my wife has a Hornet 750 and I love the engine in that bike, the Transalp feels that bit more "grown up". I do like the look Vstrom 800RE (Well not the looks 😅) But a 19" front wheel, low/mid range torque. Still got to have a some test rides to find that Unicorn bike.
I love to have advice of others 🙂 I have ruled out a Guzzi 850tt, to viby and "bouncey"
Maybe looking for that "new" bike to come out, there are some interesting stuff on RUclips Honda GB750 or even a CL750 in no real rush.

If you want military history you could do a lot worse than Verdun. Fits nicely into a route home from the Alps 🙂

You could get down on one knee again and ask the big question if you could come ride in the USA! Montana to California to Washington and back to Montana in 7 or 8 days!
