- Philadelphia Masjid and local Muslim community leaders came together to condemn the recent shooting that interrupted a West Philadelphia Eid al-Fitr celebration.

I have immigrated to Philadelphia from Senegal since 2007. I was so happy to see that many people dress up and celebrating Eid. First time I felt the Eid spirit here. I drove past that park and was so happy to see so many kids dress’s up that I recorded video while passing by. I was so disappointed to have received phone calls from friends regarding what took place. We have to do better as a people. This violence has to stop

Alhamdulillah, I been attending the Eid and the Masjid since a little girl never ever went threw that experience, Myself and my family was there since 11am and this terrible tragedy happened hours later, Mashallah it was so amazing to see thousands of Muslims come together, and no fights, arguments nothing, This tragedy happened from outside individuals who decided to come and sit in the park and go at there enemies, Let's get this straight it was not Muslims so people please stop the narratives and lies. I have attended this Masjid for my family's Janazah's, Jummah, and school and plenty of Eids and again this has never ever took place, Alhamdulillah nobody was unalived, even with us having to run in the Masjid and many of Muslims running to avoid gun shots, Prior to this all of us Muslims came together for a very special event!! Inshallah all of us Muslims come together to fix the problem! And Inshallah this shouldn't occur again! Growing up in Philadelphia all my life and my whole family, we travel to the Masjid from out of town every year and look forward to a beautiful event and will continue because again this tragedy was one tragedy that could have turned out very horrible but Mashallah no one was unalived, No Muslims 🙏🏽 Wonderful speech, May Allah continue to protect us all and bless all who has stepped up for us Muslims and the community 🙏🏽

That’s not true when we 30 and 40 year old try to step up the older generation wants to keep control. This press conference was their solution instead of listening to what really happened and how to fix the problem. I personally spoke with Omar Sabir to come up with a solution before a day before this press conference and he said this is what they decided to do. They don’t understand this younger generation and their mindset and why they even felt comfortable doing what they did. It’s not just a violent act it’s going on in our community and they keep sweeping the real problems under the rug. It’s not safe out here and it’s only going to get worse. I was one of the last students at Sister Clara Muhammad school before it stopped being a school they want to change the name to be Philadelphia Masjid for some power control but people feel comfortable shooting during one of the most sacred times and they are only concerned with making you think the “Philadelphia Masjid is Safe and Your belongings are safe” 2 people got shot and someone got hit by a police car and they didn’t even acknowledge that at all..

Appreciate the efforts of community leaders in addressing this effectively. This showed responsibility and commitment to sanitize the community from the evil of crime & gang activity.
From a street mentality does anybody think that the motive of the attack on this event was over territory and that possible gang territory? No matter what lines are drawn if a gang believes that they own that Park they will not let anyone else have time in that park for example never forget Tessa Majors from New York City who was so brutally stabbed to death by a gang because she was sitting in " their "park and not aware of it and they stabbed her so badly that the feathers from her coat went flying everywhere. If gangs control territory then people cannot move about freely because they create no go zones for example. It is the criminal Collective that is growing and no matter whether you are a Muslim or a Christian or a Jew or male or female (and the female should be able to dress however she wants-never forget Ola Salem) everyone needs to be able to defend themselves and move freely about in society and not have their constitutional rights stolen from them.
No gangs in Philly just neighborhoods more than likely there were individuals that had beef with one another.

You dont get foresight until in your mid 30’s . These people , the youth have undeveloped brains so they operate on from a more emotional aspect. They have no knowledge of self and don’t have any mastery of one’s self

We need to stop talking so much to the youth and develop programs for the youth to do constructive activities and learn to be part of a team and true brotherhood. Idle minds get in trouble. They have develop gangs because their is support, ego stroking, courage and bravery in it. They need skill development. Instead there is negative manhood development designed by the youth. They need outreach programs to encourage positive behavior. And lastly those out of control need consequences for the foolishness. Admiration to those who are providing services.

The Masjid’s are Need to have youth programs. Teaching youth leadership. Let them learn the religion and sometimes the youth do Jumah. And come to understand what is happening to our communities with ourselves and the youth To help each other on positive issues and levels. May Allah and you forgive me if I say anything wrong . Islam is a religion that loves and spreads peace and safety for all humans. as the Prophet Muhammad Shollallahu 'alaihi sallam was sent as a blessing to the universe who is an example for every Muslim (See Al Qur;an Chapter 21 Al Anbiyaa verse 107). .

@@kb4432 I totally understand your point but I was expecting wiser words from our elders, it came off as just angry ramblings. It’s a press conference well after the incident I was hoping they’d be more impactful in speech. I’m from Philly and was actually there but left hours before the shooting. For the last few years there’s been incidents of either fighting or shooting at one of the sites for Eid across the city. Allah won’t change the conditions of a people until we change ourselves. Insha’Allah our community gets it together and grab a tighter hold on our youth.
