TUI Airways flight 630 heavy, Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner service from Birmingham Int'l Airport (EGBB) to Melbourne Orlando Int'l (KMLB). Recorded in Microsoft Flight Simulator on the VATSIM network, ATC included. A regular weekday sees a huge influx of pilots checking in on an understaffed frequency. The controllers do their best to coordinate traffic but the radio congestion creates an airspace nightmare.

Always thought there was a school to teach where to put the errrrrrr in and for errrrrrrrrrrrrr how long.
Have to agree with all of these. Also a British person and you mastered that accent. I was taken back by it to start off and then I realised why you did it when I actually took notice of the flight number and the livery :D

It’s “days like this that controllers do this willingly” because on the days with this level of traffic with competent pilots is an extremely exhilarating experience.

A little of the Yes and the No for this. I can imagine it, in the same way that some people who actually have aviation licenses and/or jobs still use flight sims. Now, granted, if I were an Air Traffic Controller IRL I don't think it would be my idea of relaxation to get home from work, and then start role playing as a person with the same job. But if I were planning to begin a career in it, or if I wanted to practice the routine parts of radio communications with all the associated linguistic expectations that come along with it, then maybe it does make sense to role play as the ATC.
Oh it used to be a blast! I did it everyday, with the biggest smile and shakey of excitement.
I can't speak for other controllers, but as a new controller with an S1, working on my S2, its not to different from the reasons non-pilots fly study-level airliners. Its a fun challenge, you can find a great community of like-minded people in your ARTCC, and its very rewarding to build knowledge and skill at it.
@@jamespfpI mean, call me crazy, but wouldn't Vatsim make a great Practice Platform for rl ATC-Students? I mean, you can't get better practice than with real people with human made mistakes or variations. And, as a bonus, you can't kill someone when you accidently let 2 Planes collide

Short staffed ATC these days just adds to realism. Anyone who has flown recently irl (especially through Jacksonville ATC), knows that flow control delays are a given now.
Shout-out to the tower controller for their professionalism. By far the best controller of the day.
Fantastic as usual, sir. I wore the Squawk 7600. shirt through the airport the other day and a pilot was walking the opposite direction, laughed, and said "I like your shirt." Good times. Love what you do. Keep it up!
The GEAR UP shirt has been my go to for a few years. It gets laughs. 😎Until AFP merch became a thing I flew shirtless.

My favorite is when it's so busy the controller is trying to juggle a bunch of people who need to descend with a bunch of people checking in and people chime in to eat up valuable radio time with "what's the frequency of the next center?"
“Professionals find the airport with external view.” That got me not gonna lie. Countless times looking for the airport out of the cockpit wishing I had that option.
Feel bad for the people up there in ATC with people stepping on each other.

And by the time you end up telling everybody to stand by, there's another person coming in the next few seconds and they WILL NOT WAIT on their call.
This is one of the reasons I stopped controlling within the Australian division + some of the people just have attitudes

To be fair, if you enter airspace and get told to contact the Boston centre freq you automatically call in. You wouldn't hear the "don't call" callout from controller since you changed freq after the request.

I have actually wondered how this is handled in the real world, surprised it's taken so long to hear it in game to be honest
Usually in the real world there will be more ATC active, and Centers will work to distribute planes across each others frequencies. It sounds like these controllers were actually doing that too, but it’s VATSIM so sometimes ATC has to go be real humans and AFP showed up right when New York Center had just dropped.
Good god your British accent is pretty amazing. I swear 90% of Americans think we speak like Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins, who was an American actor doing an awful British accent.

I’m pretty new to watching these videos, I do need to ask. Those ATC guys are actually RP’ing as ATC? If so, that’s amazing, the Boston Center guy was incredible I’m in Boston and listen to ATC Live all the time. This guy is amazing. Very well done OP. I’m very impressed all around
Hey, old comment but yeah, the ATC guys are on a special network with the pilots called VATSIM, they roleplay as ATC to make the simulator more realistic for everyone:)
