People love to hate on JM because if you were to take any single one of his aspects (singing, songwriting, musicianship) and look at them individually, he would still be better than 95% of artists today, yesterday and long, long ago. So when you put those 3 together, you get somebody that is so freakin' talented, it just isn't fair. People that are hired to "write good songs" for other artists can't even write as good as JM does.

I just learned to sing and play the song on guitar. Yes, you're right. It's on two different time signatures, (verses vs intro/interludes.) It took me about a while to wrap my head and my fingers around it. My vocals wantes to sing 3/4 but my fingers 4/4. 😂😂😂. It's brillant!

I was fortunate enough to experience this performance in Milwaukee. I still don’t have words. It was that moving. He just busts out a song for the first time. He wrote it in his hotel bathroom and decided to reveal it on that particular night. I get chills just thinking about it

I could be way off, but if you watch his 2008 Berklee Clinic on here, he basically explains how record companies work in terms of album content.

I love John because every emotion a human goes through he has written or writing a song about it. All his songs are like the soundtrack to life. He is so complicated and a person can barely understand him but when he sings he brings us right where he wants and we understand everyword. We get caught in the feeling and moment of every song to where the only to feel that again is the listen to the song again..

It was recorded the first time he ever played it...he didn't say what the name was at the time, and I'm not sure he ever has since. But since this was the first video of this song put on the web, I just called it the Hotel Bathroom Song because that's where he said he wrote it.
