If his business partners really were just spending "A reasonable amount," on restaurants and beer, then that would probably be enough to drain a good portion of the money that was invested in the game.

Salokin Sekwah That's why you should never fund kickstarter unless it's from a reputable group of people and they have complete evidence showing how far their project is in development. Also, analyze the product and the amount of money they're asking for. Just think "Is it possible to make this product with this budget?"
Still crazy how much Star Citizen has managed to get. Only one I believed in, and still do. Realistically it costs millions for a decent game, and good people at the helm. So whenever I see goals of only 100,000k or around that I say nope not for me.
Honestly, there isn't. For every fuck up there are 10 successes you never hear about. I have about 150 things backed on KS: board games, comics, video games, music, etc and in all of that I've been burned about 3 times.
It sucks that had to happen to Eric, he just wanted to make a fun game, to teach us how to make fun games....it sucks that the good people in the world are the ones who get fucked over 😔
yeah, i have to take eric's side on this, even if he was trying to cut them out on the deal. they openly admit that they spent kickstarter money at bars and restaurants. even if it wasn't excessive, that's not what the funding was for. that's more than enough reason to try to cut them out, since they were misusing funds.
Agreed. If I had backed the project, I'd have been pretty ticked off that they were treating themselves to restaurant dinners and nights out when that's not what I paid for. I'm not saying they shouldn't go out and have fun or live off ramen noodles, just that they should be using their personal funds for that. The only caveat to that would be if they used their personal paychecks that came out of the project fund to do so.
+Dargonhuman I do feel I need that say that anything that deals with the company, is paid with company money. So if you spend money on lunch when dealing with a possible investor in the company, you pay with the company money. This is true for any business. Even the plumber gets paid for his gas when he's driving to a client. Now, the problem of course is that most of these expenses are easily calculated (in case of the plumber, just check on any gps how far the client lives and you have the amount to pay), but business lunches are dodgy. There's no way of checking if the lunch partner was indeed an investor that wasn't interested or if they just got free food.
Jimmy De'Souza whining and dining is for people with clients and revenue streams. this was a video game in which everything was being developed internally. hell, the first season was already done and released.
Thomas Jenkins Exactly, if they were courting investors to fund the game, why were they doing a Kickstarter to begin with? Even if they were, the Kickstarter money was earmarked for making the game, period, not courting investors.
A lot of the kickstarters are just people who bite off way more than they can chew, but far too many are just scammers. It's really hard to tell which is which with some of these Also, such a terrible tease at the end there
Kickstarter may have a wealth of great ideas, but it suffers from two glaring deficiencies that most people don't seem to be aware of: 1) Programmers, artists, and designers usually aren't experienced finance/business people, meaning that they're likely to misjudge the true time & costs of product development and improperly manage their resources. 2) The people in charge of Kickstarter projects usually aren't mature, objective, ethically-committed business professionals, meaning they have no defenses or checks against unproductive personality clashes and unethical behavior that could derail a project.
The fact that another video like this has to exist makes me sad about the state of kickstarter. And I'm one of those guys who defends the platform since it has given out some good products, like shovel knight, freedom planet, and some other more (EDIT: Shantae half gene hero). But still, it's good that you decided to make more of this, since it's needed.
Yeah. For every Shovel Knight there's an Ant Simulator. The only reason why it gets a bad rep is not because of the idea itself. It's more so because not many are successful. And it's not always because the person doing it had bad intentions. Sometimes, making anything and keeping your promise is tough. People could say about games like Undertale or Mighty No. 9 at least they came out and at least there's something to play. 9/10 kickstarters are not successful at all. Some don't even get close to their goal. It's ashamed it's like this but that's the risk with crowd funding. It doesn't always guarantee a product and in fact there have been a lot of examples of it failing overall. I just hope games like A Hat In Time,Yooka Laylee and Bloodstained come out and are great.
+Super Gamer61499 It's one thing that people need to understand, that sometimes either it's due to scammers or because the project was bigger than they've anticipated. Thus having problems like running put of money. I also hope that those games turn out to be great, the last thing we need is another mighty no 9.
assholemon Yeah, I hope so too. Because two of them I know are suppose to bring back the collectathon genre from the dead since the last one I can recall that was great was Jak & Daxter The Precurssor Legacy.
I've never given any money to Kickstarter because of stuff like this. I can't really afford to sink money into a game that isn't coming out. Not when I can just buy games already released.
Zeithri not money, power. Money is just another form of power. With money, you have the power to buy that computer you always wanted, or get a present for your mom, or go to the strip club every night of the week.
Very very true. If I had money, I could get rid of my bills, fix personal health issues, get new clothes that aren't falling apart, and a computer that'd be useful with more modern stuff. Not only that, I could feel better. But aside from that, I lack the mental capacity of understanding the value of money, instead just knowing " _It has worth and get me food. That's good!_ " ( _I'd love to be rich, but I wouldn't "get it" so to say._ )
You're right. We'd all like to take the moral high ground and say if we run our own successful Kickstarter, we'd use the money justly and not fall into any of those pitfalls, but until we get a sweet trifle payment of $100,000+ we can't really say that, can we? Corruption is only human. Animals only really have instinct and thus abide by their hierarchies instinctively.
An honorable mention should be Hiveswap. A game funded in 2012 with 2.5 million dollars, that was said to have a 2014 release date. It's not out yet. Hiveswap 2017.
Diana Saucedo Hard to deliver a game when the company you commissioned to make it takes all the money and runs. Apparently a lot of Hiveswap's Kickstarter money was put into the new King's Quest game that came out earlier this year.
This is why game companies hire business people to run the business aspects of the business. There needs to be someone at the financial reigns that can pull back on overly ambitious ideas and can make sure things come in on time and on budget.
Good idea. At least such an amount isn't too bad a lose if it all goes wrong. As Astro Gamer said, if the people are trust worthy then, by all means, give more if you can.
I want to say that these situations have hard thinned out, like contracts and such are getting way smarter and expectations of funding has hard shifted. With a proper contract it doesn't matter what sort of seizing can happen when contract court swings in and bops people.
I hope you decide to do Kickstarter video about games that were both good ideas and weren't failures. Believe it or not, not every Kickstarter campaign is either a scam or a failure.
FTL, Divinity: Original Sin, Hand of Fate, Duelyst, Darkest Dungeon, Hyper Light Drifter, the list goes on. We often forget that Kickstarter was responsible when the games stand out on their own as great.
Jimmy De'Souza Ok, I'm not sure what PoE and WL2 stand for but off the top of my head some successful ones are Shadowrun Returns, Wasteland 2, Banner Saga had some issues but they managed to pull through. I'm sure there were others.
The shadowgate remake came out well. Kickstarter got xenonauts finished, but everyone forgot about it due to the official xcom reboot. Other than that and the things mention earlier, the only kickstarters i backed that came out as expected were books or comics. Broken age's first half was good, but should have stayed simple. A hat in time still gets updates now and then. Rogue to Redemption by the coles i lost track of after they double dipped. The ouya And star citizen i only threw a few bucks at. Oh the recent tex Murphey sequel was exactly what people expected.
I really don't understand why contracts are such a foreign concept to so many people. They're not complicated. You spell out exactly what the responsibilities of each party are, exactly how any unforeseen problems will be dealt with, etc, and then everybody signs it. Easy. I know some people not familiar with them get agitated by the idea of spelling out something like "If you just stop working on it after being paid, you will repay everything" as if it's accusatory, with them not wanting to entertain the idea that they would do such a thing, but grow the hell up. If you're not actually going to do that thing, then there's nothing to worry about. Contracts just cover everyone's butts. I've been involved in more than one project where the contract was the only thing that saved things. People have a tendency to assume so much, but when you can point to the contract, and to their signature, and go through it line by line and show that every single part of it was satisfied, it takes the wind out of their sails when they want to claim you were supposed to do more. Anyone who is unwilling to nail down exactly what they want, and agree to pay if only those things are done, is planning to rip you off, plain and simple. Don't do business with them, ever.
Oh Yogventures. The very first game I ever kickstarted. My first impression of kickstarter and of backing games. A quite appropriate introduction to kickstarter I think.
I sat here scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed it lol. Got me so nostalgic that I'm gonna pop in Fable Anniversary and play it on my Xbox One tomorrow
I was there through that Yogventures situation (though I never funded it, because I was always broke). It was ridiculous, but it wasn't (what most people paint it to be) 'the Yogscast stealing people's money through a bogus Kickstarter'. In point of fact, the Yogscast had very little to do with the project, at first, beyond lending their names, likenesses, and brand to it, and advertising it (because let's face it, if someone was making a game about you, especially but not exclusively if you were going to get money from it, wouldn't you tell the world?). Winterkewl Games - a company who *approached the Yogscast*, not the other way around) was not, at any point, 'part of the Yogscast', they just borrowed/licensed the Yogscast intellectual property. In the end, the money from the Kickstarter wasn't enough (the company was new and inexperienced, and underestimated the costs of making a game like that), basically the money they took in was enough for 3-4 devs to work on it for a year (going by low-average developer salaries in the industry at the time of the incident), whereas they had a bigger team and ended up needing a lot more time, so the funds were spread incredibly thin. On top of that, one of the artists had been handed his salary and then took off without producing any art assets, simply because, as a new and inexperienced company, they didn't write up a proper contract so there was no paperwork saying that he *had* to provide art assets if he signed and accepted money. In the *actual* end, I think both sides got heated towards each other, there was a 'he said she said' (not literally, both sides were primarily males) where they both tried to throw each other under the bus a little bit, but in the end it came out that it was a combination of an artist who didn't art, underestimation and underfunding, and some misplaced anger - but not that any backers who weren't on the Yogscast subreddit would know that, as the last update that wasn't a Reddit post was during the 'both sides throwing each other under the bus' period. EDIT: And I completely forgot to mention that, other than the game itself since no final game was ever made, the Yogscast (who were technically under no obligation to do so, because it was Winterkewl's Kickstarter) more than made good on the campaign promises, by providing to backers everything their backing tier was entitled to (other than the game itself obviously), plus *two* other games that weren't part of any tier of the campaign.
The morale to Yogsventure you may ask? When you're paying a developer to make a game, be sure to specify how much work is necessary for that money. Oh don't worry if you're confused.....you'll see.....
Thankfully I've not had to deal with any horrible Kickstarter failures yet, though I am generally picky about what I do back. The only one I've had any issue with so far was the first one I backed (for a web comic series), and many of the issues were outside of the project starter's control (having a new kid, unexpected postage hikes, problems with printing companies, to name a few). And they did end up delivering, so even if it took longer than expected it ended well :3
This brought me back 10 years to watching your favourite TV show and getting hit with the "NEXT TIME on YOUR FAVE SHOW THATS NOW OVER BUT NOT DONE RESOLVING"
I remember hearing about that Ant Simulator thing. Seems like it's still a "he said, she said" situation, as these things often are (just like that Nekro one).
The irony is that right now it's conservative politicians who realised they have been cucked.... by their own president. So you say "both are one and the same", I really thought you meant that both liberals and conservatives in the US are getting screwed over by the current situation in Washington.
syafiqjabar They’re not wrong. Nobody’s really benefiting from the shit show that is the White House, not even Trump. Everybody’s getting fucked one way or another.
I'm honestly surprised you didn't cover Hiveswap! $700,000 goal, raised almost 2 and a half MILLION dollars. They claim it's still under development and they haven't given up, but it feels like a lot of beating around the bush, to me.
To be fair its not that the devs ran away with the money for some if the entries here, its that they wasted it all trying to develop the game (meaning they didn't benefit from the money). The reality is a lot of these kickstarter makers have no idea what they are getting into, all they really did is a pitch, anybody can do that. But once the money is received and they start making the game, they realize they have no idea what to do. A big part of the problem here is KS itself that doesn't have any screening for campaigns and also no buyer protection whatsoever, their "TOS" is not enforceable and it will still be 100% on the backer to try and get his money back. Look at KS now, barely anything gets backed anymore cuz they just take their slice of the money and then give an FU to the backer
9:24 A four year old game is not "classic." Even if the game was much older it still isn't good enough to be considered a classic. It's just a typical triple-A mainstream game that did nothing new, had a lot of money put into it and got a lot back in return. No one is going to care about it in 30 years and that's the real metric for what makes a "classic."
I do agree that a 4 year old game shouldn't be considered a "classic" (at least to me it should be 15-20 years.) but who's to say it'll be forgotten? You don't know I don't know nobody knows so why make assumptions about what game will be a classic and what won't.
Maybe he means "legend in its own time" type of game? But I've never played Dishonored. It's not the type of game I'd play. So even if it was actually great I personally might not enjoy it much.

Part of me really wonders what would have happened to Shadow of the Eternals if it had actually been funded. Maybe this could lead to a video on Kickstarters campaigns that were probably scams and we may have been blessed to have them fail on Kickstarter?
Clang is the perfect example on how to set your expectations on Kickstarter. It's a gamble that is more likely to go bust then not. But without trying you aren't going to have even the bust.
16:05 ANYTHING you spent on alcohol was stolen since your investors DIDN'T invest in your company but in a GAME. Their money should have ONLY been spent on development of the game they invested in. Most game companies have investors for their company. They went to Go Fund Me and asked for funding for a game NOT for whatever the fuck they wanted to do with said money. Maybe they needed a Go Fund Me just for their company. But that's NOT what they had. So their bar hopping was theft unless they or investors in their company paid for it.
Hi, if you bundle these up with yogventures you can still make an "another 5" video. Here's 4 more kickstarter scams: - Confederate Express (Both creators ran with the money after few weeks) - ROAM (100k$ Lawsuit from one of the programmer against the lead) - Haunts: The Manse Macabre (officially declared dead by creator) - Kinetic Void (still officially not dead, but no statuses updates in more than 2 years)

Such a big mess that everyone left and is trying to make another game in the same vein (without the originator of Breeding Season) that's doomed to never see completion. Such is the fate of most, uh, "fur-focused" games.
I watched the chaos unfold. The free demos had fans. And that type of adult themed game was allowed. And support was strong. But so much shit hit the fan and it became a war of who is telling the truth. For a minute things looked good. But so much happened so quickly. I kept seeing jokes about what was going down. So i looked into it. And then watched some chaos. People were still leaving angry comments and talking about it when i was looking up what happened. I saw so much from people it became hard to track. People had taken sides and that left anyone looking in a mess to find. So i can't say who is right. So much shit was said. But i can say the fans were happy and supportive. Then things went to shit and everyone took sides. More and more messes formed. And that new game was started. But right now this is a toxic mess or hate. No one really has clear answers. But you can clearly tell shit hit the fan and things fell apart quickly.
It's kinda bull that you're making us wait till next week for the number one entry, but I'm glad something that big of a meltdown is getting a video in full. Either way, I'll be waiting for it
Oh boy, looking forward to the Yogventures one next month. Basically a summary of what happens when a bunch of nerds (with no game development experience) get popular on RUclips thanks to Minecraft and try to fund and make a game.
Here's two more for your list: Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians and Midora. The former included people who worked on Final Fantasy Tactics and the latter was a game in the style of Minish Cap.
The moral of the story: Ideas are so common they're worthless. Execution, now that is a rare and precious thing. Also, CLANG was too ambitious for it's own good. As an escrimador, I doubt gaming will ever achieve the goals that CLANG aspired to. Melee combat is just too dynamic to truly recreate in video games. There's so much that you can and should be doing in a duel, that would be very hard to illustrate in a video game.
I backed Nekro because Total Biscuit talked about it. I'll never again back something I personally don't connect with. People talk about Star Citizen, but I'll eventually be able to play a gorgeous game. That indy genius crap? Robbed.
Guessed right Mr. Zoidburg. I have heard from TheGamerOfMars the whole debacle with that and I will say after hearing about it I really dislike Yogscast for not even refunding the fan's damn money after it failed. It's like seriously, either compromise or just give them a refund.
Super Gamer61499 They said the devs ran away with the money and that there was nothing they could do. The Yogscast could have at least sent them some free merch for compensation or something.
So what about in regards to Anita's tropes vs women? She did meet the goal and started making content, but she hasn't finished it, is years late and hasn't given out what she promised to her highest backers, like a DVD and shit.
As much as I agree with you on the fact Anita is a massive con artist, this is a Kickstarter list for video games that failed, not a show based on video games. Even at that she still managed to produce something. Sure it's not everything she promised but 20% of promised is still better than nothing at all.
And I'm not going to defend Anita on that, in fact I think it's utterly deplorable and it's the main reason why I think she's a con artist. I'm just saying that in comparison to the candidates on this video (and the previous) she did release something, not everything she promised sure, but something.
It's a moral debate whether offering to provide a service you are not sure you can provide is immoral or not. I agree, that there probably was no bad intent. They tried to make it as good as they could and failed. Imho, they aren't evil people, but anyone being sceptic when it comes to investing in those people again has a valid point.
Please do a video on "LEGEND OF DRAGOON"... its my favorite rpg OF all time, and I wanna know why there wasnt another one made, and why no one ever remembers this game, or refers to it ever.
I just found your channel and have Ben binging your videos. I was looking at the related videos tab and was trying to find the video you mentioned at the end of this video. Then I realize this video is only 4 days old. Now I gotta wait! xD
An old kickstarter from around 2012 or 2011. Back when they where still making Shadow of Israphel. With all the popularity from it they tried making a minecraft-esk game with full destruction based around mining gold and getting rich. I almost donated to it but thank god I didn't.
I'd love to see more of these types of vids. As I watched both, my mind kept drifting back to the "Crisis Heart Brawlers: Battle at Otakon" debacle from a few years back.
The problem with the "Whose fault is it?" debate with Ant Simulator is the guys don't actually deny misusing the money, they just try to justify it.
How is spending it on booze and lapdancers in any way justifiable though?

That's why you should never fund kickstarter unless it's from a reputable group of people and they have complete evidence showing how far their project is in development. Also, analyze the product and the amount of money they're asking for. Just think "Is it possible to make this product with this budget?"
Java Monsoon
DoubleFine is a rare example. KickStarter still has plenty of successes like Shantae.
Jimmy De'Souza
whining and dining is for people with clients and revenue streams. this was a video game in which everything was being developed internally. hell, the first season was already done and released.
Thomas Jenkins
Exactly, if they were courting investors to fund the game, why were they doing a Kickstarter to begin with? Even if they were, the Kickstarter money was earmarked for making the game, period, not courting investors.
A lot of the kickstarters are just people who bite off way more than they can chew, but far too many are just scammers. It's really hard to tell which is which with some of these
Also, such a terrible tease at the end there
Kickstarter may have a wealth of great ideas, but it suffers from two glaring deficiencies that most people don't seem to be aware of:
1) Programmers, artists, and designers usually aren't experienced finance/business people, meaning that they're likely to misjudge the true time & costs of product development and improperly manage their resources.
2) The people in charge of Kickstarter projects usually aren't mature, objective, ethically-committed business professionals, meaning they have no defenses or checks against unproductive personality clashes and unethical behavior that could derail a project.
DAMNIT, BLUE BALLING US WITH THE YOGVENTURES THING.
better be good, tho, since it's gonna be a seperate vid.
Shovel Knight was a Kickstarter? Damn it, now I'm also conflicted. I love that game.
There's already and Ant Simulator, it's called Pikmin.
Yeah, and the actual ant simulator, AntSim on the SNES lol
@@MasterOfKnowledge.
SimAnt brotherman and it was multiplatform and is easy to find.
@@Penoatle Ye, SimAnt, my b. I also wasn't aware it was cross-platform, thanks for the info
The moral of the stories here is...
*Money corrupts absolutely.*
That's good!_ "
( _I'd love to be rich, but I wouldn't "get it" so to say._ )
You're right. We'd all like to take the moral high ground and say if we run our own successful Kickstarter, we'd use the money justly and not fall into any of those pitfalls, but until we get a sweet trifle payment of $100,000+ we can't really say that, can we? Corruption is only human. Animals only really have instinct and thus abide by their hierarchies instinctively.
No. That's not even slightly the moral. How the hell do you even arrive at that conclusion from this?
Easy.
Everyone runs off with the money. Or in other words, complacency breeds laziness.
the irony of all these kickstarters about developers teaching people how to develop games being unable to develop a game themselves
"Taught", Dan. Not "Teached". "Teached" is not a word.
Damian Freeman it is, just means something different
No, I am not even native english and I know that is not a real word. Use "teached" in a sentence!
Fuck off grammar nazi, we obviously know what he means
Draw Onics: There is no excuse for sloppy language.
Damian Freeman who teached you that?
(Joke)
What happen to Guru Larry? Does he still make videos
I'm here, just working on a new Fact Hunt. Loads of research for the new one, plus it's going to be pretty controversial.
+Larry Bundy Jr O
hey there MY dude I didn't know you like Larry bundy jr
lol
Controversy + videogames = instant like
Can't wait to see it
"got rave previews from rock paper shotgun and Kotaku"
you say that like it's a good thing.
Ikr.. kotaku is one of the shittiest review sites I know, worse than ign.
The only thing IGN is good at is teaching people how to get themselves killed in dark souls. If you're bad at a game, don't give advice
Jumanji Joe Well, it could be worse. It could have gotten praise from WatchMojo.
*WatchMojo staff watches this video*
We are here today to count down ANOTHER 5 video game kickstarters that run away with the money.
Don't give WatchMojo ideas.
An honorable mention should be Hiveswap.
A game funded in 2012 with 2.5 million dollars, that was said to have a 2014 release date.
It's not out yet.
Hiveswap 2017.
Someone actually mentioned that game down here in the comments.
Diana Saucedo Hard to deliver a game when the company you commissioned to make it takes all the money and runs. Apparently a lot of Hiveswap's Kickstarter money was put into the new King's Quest game that came out earlier this year.
Skeleton Corp I know, and what made it worse was that Hussie's dad died during development.
Diana Saucedo Also, everyone's putting pressure on Hussie. Like, I'm excited, but I'm content with the original characters.
Well, episode 1 is out now
This is why game companies hire business people to run the business aspects of the business. There needs to be someone at the financial reigns that can pull back on overly ambitious ideas and can make sure things come in on time and on budget.
Is Larry still in Ashen's basement? Call 999 already!
Andrew Vrba He has plenty of century old food to eat, just call the non-emergency number. No reason to bother the police about it.
999? It's 911.
Thermo Man in the UK it's 999
I wouldn't worry. He survived drinking that poisoned wine from Chef Excellence, so I think the basement will be a cakewalk for him to escape from.
Thermo Man ,he most likely lives in England. there it's 999 instead of 911
This is why I never give more than 15 bucks to a Kickstarter
Good idea, unless they have previous shown they can be trusted
Pyro Paragon I only give when Im playing Money roulette
Blake Blast perfect
AstrosGamer exactly
Good idea. At least such an amount isn't too bad a lose if it all goes wrong. As Astro Gamer said, if the people are trust worthy then, by all means, give more if you can.
Just sitting here pretending it's Guru Larry but with a cold and a bad mic :)
This ended up on my Recommended within 5 minutes of release. Neat. I was going to check sub box, but this showed up immediately. *FeelsGoodMan*
Huh, I was wondering what happened to Nekro.
What was there wasn't even a bad game. It needed work but it was fun in its own way. Disappointing.
Not to mention Shovel Knight and Undertale, two of the most successful indie games in recent memory.
Jimmy De'Souza Ok, I'm not sure what PoE and WL2 stand for but off the top of my head some successful ones are Shadowrun Returns, Wasteland 2, Banner Saga had some issues but they managed to pull through. I'm sure there were others.
its less about giving them money and more about showing interest
The shadowgate remake came out well. Kickstarter got xenonauts finished, but everyone forgot about it due to the official xcom reboot.
Other than that and the things mention earlier, the only kickstarters i backed that came out as expected were books or comics. Broken age's first half was good, but should have stayed simple. A hat in time still gets updates now and then. Rogue to Redemption by the coles i lost track of after they double dipped. The ouya And star citizen i only threw a few bucks at.
Oh the recent tex Murphey sequel was exactly what people expected.
I think the lesson we can take from this is games cost a lot of money to make and think twice to donate to games that don't ask for a lot of money.
That Fable music though. the nostalgia.
I sat here scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed it lol. Got me so nostalgic that I'm gonna pop in Fable Anniversary and play it on my Xbox One tomorrow
And the Age of Empires/Age of Mythology music too
I love Larry's narration but this fella is really good.
After I JUST subscribed and bingewatched all of your videos this morning while editing my own????
---- Larry, you spoil me.
And they did end up delivering, so even if it took longer than expected it ended well :3
that clip from Eastenders is well old
And yet...still good.
Maybe 2002/2003?
This brought me back 10 years to watching your favourite TV show and getting hit with the "NEXT TIME on YOUR FAVE SHOW THATS NOW OVER BUT NOT DONE RESOLVING"
I just hope Bloodstained and Shenmue III will never end up in one of these videos...
I backed both.
Bloodstained is something I have hope for. Shemnue 3 seems too much like a Mighty Number 9/Duke Nukem Forever scenario.
Bloodstained is set for a 2018 release date
As for Shenmue 3, it's the same as Bloodstained.
indask8 they're both available
indask8 Oh boy...
Shenmue 3 was released this year, so no worries for you, right? Haha
"Don't worry, everything is fine. Open your wallet and give me your money!".
Basically 99% of crowdfunded shenanigans.
👌🏻
"Don't worry, we are going to make a game" this should be made into a meme :D
Age of Mythology soundtrack... love it :3
and empire earth
Serge Kent Thank you for this! I've been pulling my hair out trying to place that track. Convinced myself it was from some Zelda game lol
and Gals Panic S2
Holy fuck, that's it! I was tearing my hair out thinking it was from Sim City 3000
Serge Kent I loved the Fable 1 soundtrack
Love the AoM music that plays in the background, phenomenal music
Please keep these videos coming. They are so informative and interesting to watch!
Love the Age of Mythology music in the background.
I remember hearing about that Ant Simulator thing. Seems like it's still a "he said, she said" situation, as these things often are (just like that Nekro one).
"respected gaming websites such as PC gamer, rock paper shotgun, and kotaku" LOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL
+Cognus
fucking conservabigot
but both are one and the same
The irony is that right now it's conservative politicians who realised they have been cucked.... by their own president. So you say "both are one and the same", I really thought you meant that both liberals and conservatives in the US are getting screwed over by the current situation in Washington.
syafiqjabar
They’re not wrong. Nobody’s really benefiting from the shit show that is the White House, not even Trump. Everybody’s getting fucked one way or another.
What's wrong with Kotaku?
This is the only "guest" video I've ever seen on a channel that I actually really enjoyed. Thanks dude.
Really, this is a 4-item list and a bonus teaser.
"...teached you how to make your first video game."
Just... Guru Larry, please come back!
Who the hell wants to play a reality based fighting game.
Bushido Blade was the first similar game that popped into my head. It was fun.
Plenty of people do actually. The trick is striking a sweet spot between realism and fun, though.
I would have liked it, I could have been similar to Sword sparring!
Kingdom come deliverance is doing the same thing with the combat and people like it
lilahk95 It's far from realistic but the game is still fun.
9:24 A four year old game is not "classic." Even if the game was much older it still isn't good enough to be considered a classic. It's just a typical triple-A mainstream game that did nothing new, had a lot of money put into it and got a lot back in return. No one is going to care about it in 30 years and that's the real metric for what makes a "classic."
its a bethesda game dude so we are gonna be hearing fanboys rave about it until the end of time
opinions! they really are something, aren't they?
I do agree that a 4 year old game shouldn't be considered a "classic" (at least to me it should be 15-20 years.) but who's to say it'll be forgotten? You don't know I don't know nobody knows so why make assumptions about what game will be a classic and what won't.
Maybe he means "legend in its own time" type of game? But I've never played Dishonored. It's not the type of game I'd play. So even if it was actually great I personally might not enjoy it much.
***** so you have never heard the phrase instant classic? mario was an instant classic same with the first fallout games grow up dude
The Ant Simulator story will never stop to be sad :(
Why is it sad?
@@leob4403 the lead developer, Eric, did dev streams on Twitch and seemed like a nice and passionate guy who truly wanted to make a game. his crew, not so much. they ostensibly burned all of the money on drugs and hookers and vanished, leaving Eric to pick up the pieces.
@@giygas79 thanks
Part of me really wonders what would have happened to Shadow of the Eternals if it had actually been funded. Maybe this could lead to a video on Kickstarters campaigns that were probably scams and we may have been blessed to have them fail on Kickstarter?
The biggest thing that bothered me about this video is the programmer that used "manor" instead of "manner" in an update post.
Clang is the perfect example on how to set your expectations on Kickstarter.
It's a gamble that is more likely to go bust then not. But without trying you aren't going to have even the bust.
'...and even strippers' hahahha
yeah, haha.
I would've love to play a game where you're an ant, trying to survive going through a house for crumbs avoiding feet, sprays, and traps
3:54 Nice, Dungeon Keeper - The Horned Reaper!
Really wish you'd make videos more often. These other channels videos are great. But I'd like to see more from you.
And we STILL have enough examples to make a hundred more of these videos! And that's what's terrifying!
I backed Necro... another game I backed that never came to be was Super Retro Squad...
Was that the one made by the guy who made that Mega Man/Simon Belont in Super Mario Bros game?
Larry Bundy Jr yeah. super mario crossover was really fun so I figured it be a safe bet.
Steve G.
It is odd how he could make that one for free, but needed money for the next one :S
Steve G. I bought Nekro on Steam early access. I feel your pain.
Pete Marvin
was it actually playable?
Another great video. Love the kickstarter stuff. Kinda felt bad for #3. Can't wait for the next video on this.
Next series. RUclips video's that promised 5 things but failed to deliver and ran away with the views!
Hi, if you bundle these up with yogventures you can still make an "another 5" video. Here's 4 more kickstarter scams:
- Confederate Express (Both creators ran with the money after few weeks)
- ROAM (100k$ Lawsuit from one of the programmer against the lead)
- Haunts: The Manse Macabre (officially declared dead by creator)
- Kinetic Void (still officially not dead, but no statuses updates in more than 2 years)
Damn, no homestuck game mention? that company stole everything... Whatpumpkin (or whatever they're called now) is doing a good job picking up the pieces though
See, number 4 is why I plan to make games myself. No need to worry about co-workers spending the money, & making the game look bad.
I'm supposed to be playing Game of War but this one player keeps kicking my ass.
Is it the legend27?
TeleportedBread
Who's the legend27?
Fat Seal He is fucking born in fire, dude!
Just wanna say, very nice touch with the Dungeon Keeper music during #2! One of my favorite games of all time!
These lists reminded me of the mess that is Breeding Season.
Either way, I'll be waiting for it
Am I actually up to date with a channel I am not subscribed to?
Noice
Wow, RUclips is actually working?!?!?
why not subscribe?
Larry Bundy Jr Wow, I didn't think you would respond but maybe it's because I have watched every single video and subscribed
Oh boy, looking forward to the Yogventures one next month.
Basically a summary of what happens when a bunch of nerds (with no game development experience) get popular on RUclips thanks to Minecraft and try to fund and make a game.
C'mon, Larry. I already watched this over at Dan's page. When are we getting a new Fact Hunt, mate?
I remember the Ant Simulator scandal! Gosh that was such a mess and this video on it shows that the creator had such ambition to make a game.
Money destroys motivation. This is why you don't overfund kickstarters ever.
Here's two more for your list: Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians and Midora. The former included people who worked on Final Fantasy Tactics and the latter was a game in the style of Minish Cap.
This is why I do not support Kickstarter campaigns.
Hmm, so this is "Another 4 games that …"Kind of a suprise at the end :/
Its crazy how many of these there are. It could be its own continuing series next to fact hunt!
Shaq fu and super retro squad
Shaq fu II
I believe they did a big update recently, they "almost" made the list.
you could even make a list of the almost entry's I'm guessing by how many there were..
Who the hell would fund Shaq Fu 2? The first game was pretty bad.
I donated really wanted the basket ball
Nice touch with the drum being changed to "Lary" instead of Gary.
Moral of the story fuck Kickstarter.
I backed Nekro because Total Biscuit talked about it. I'll never again back something I personally don't connect with. People talk about Star Citizen, but I'll eventually be able to play a gorgeous game. That indy genius crap? Robbed.
I'm pretty sure the Yogscast game will be on the list this time.
welp, I haven't watched it yet as well, and i'm jumping on your prediction
Max McClintock He already had a video similar to this, i believe the last kickstarter video he made had the yogscast game in it.
Jarmo Verriet Exactly. They could of at the least compensated for the fact that the game was cancelled and that fans weren't getting their money back.
"It's completely false" or "It's true but it wasn't that bad" bro you gotta pick one you can't do both.
as long as system shock doesnt land on this list ill be happy
stark1987 me too ! The demo was very impressive
Lol ...you jynxed it,now the project sucks
*video opens with Micro Machines 2 music* Well you just blew me away with nostalgia within the first second, well played!
I think number one was more a case of ambition reaching beyond what could realistically be achieved, rather than anything sinister.

Hey! The music playing during number 3 is from Age of Mythology! I spent so many hours playing that game I'd recognise the music instantly.

Wow. Can't wait for that video. Thanks for making these vids
An old kickstarter from around 2012 or 2011. Back when they where still making Shadow of Israphel. With all the popularity from it they tried making a minecraft-esk game with full destruction based around mining gold and getting rich. I almost donated to it but thank god I didn't.
Yes, they tried to do a crowd-funded game. Bet you're looking forward to the video on that.
I'd love to see more of these types of vids. As I watched both, my mind kept drifting back to the "Crisis Heart Brawlers: Battle at Otakon" debacle from a few years back.
