Fun Fact: Tien is actually based off the Chinese god Erlang Shen, with their most noticeable features being their third eyes. Apparently, this third eye allows Erlang Shen to see through lies, so yeah, Tien was serious when he said he can see through bulls**t. Erlang did appear in Journey to the West, and Erlang was kind of a dick to Sun Wukong, the inspiration for Goku.

It really is impressive how they managed to take insignificant characters like Tien, Nappa, Yamcha, Guru and countless others and make them so lovable and give them such personalities. So sad they won't be doing more of these.
