The problem with marner is the cap implications , let's say montreal traded for him , how can you sell signing him to 3-4 million more then the top paid players currently on the team? It completely ruins the cap structure of the team , like how the Tavares contract ruined the cap structure of Toronto.
Montreal doesnt need soft player like Marner, beside Xhekaj and Slaf, all our forwards are soft players.
@bedbath9056 I'm saying regardless of what you think of the player , his contract and upcoming extension make him a no go . Especially for montreal
@@THEGDB Ah, miss understood you, ya it doesnt justify signing Marner in Montreal.
Even if marner had 10 points in every playoff series, the leafs would still have to trade him off since they can't afford to pay him what he will want in 2025.
It’s a win-win for the Leafs. Anyone they get back is worth it, if he walks then they get the cap space to sign free agents. 😊
the only real question is 'is Marner worth 11 plus million or could you get better production/value with that 11 plus million spent elsewhere'...
I believe PIT will be the most likely suitor, and they have 1 piece that they want to get rid of that Treliving would love.
Ryan Graves.
The problem is the Kyle Dubas factor, has he ever won a trade?
You can't trade him for fair value. And no one's going to trade him and extend him for 8 years at $12M/each. So...your options are: trade for him cheap (and miss out on him for some or all of the next regular season), or don't trade him at all (keep him for the entire regular season). I say keep him for the season, and then let him walk...see if he can get $12M+ on the open market. If he does, good for him. The Leafs will get $12M of cap space AND keep him for all of the regular season.
Marner needs to go to a young tram and help it make the playoffs, not to another playoff team and disappear when they need him the most.
Marner does not make any adjustments to his game in the playoffs. He is just too robotic.
Marner is only worth about 8mil-9mil/per year.
Where was the Canucks coaching staff when it came to Pettersson. 1 goal in 13 games is terrible.
marner whut???
Cheap means what Ottawa got last year for DeBrincat.
A late first round pick + a roster player + a prospect.
Toronto will have to retain or have to add in a bad contract with term. They may go with the bad contract just so the value looks more appealing.
With his inflated salary and he is going to expect even more when his contract is up and his disappearing act in the playoffs all the leafs could get for him is a bag of pucks some tim Horton coupons and some Canadian tire money
The problem with the Marner trade is the teams that can afford to resign him for what he wants are the team that he doesn't want to go to or are not willing to invest the assets. He's has not been a team friendly player so far and that's part of Toronto problem. At most I can only see them getting rental prices a first and a A-B+ prospect. I think they are going to have to trade other assets to fill the hole. Getting back to the Cap issue teams can sign 2 player for what he wants and I believe he only wants a 3 year contract as well.
Unless it's a sign and trade they are gonna have to get what they can because I honestly don't see Marner being able to handle playing for Berube. Thing is, I don't see anybody giving out a big trade package plus $11M for Marner(I don't see Marner even getting $10M) and we all know Marner wants every dollar plus some so he might just wait to hit the market and try to get his $11M+. The Leafs might just have to get what they can because they 99% will not be resigning him so🤷♂
the team makes the same mistakes in the playoffs as they do during the regular season , players' need to learn the role so each player will make fewer mistakes
Vancouver or Utah would seem to be logical choices as trade partners for Marner.
Vancouver wouldn't want more cap problems with many players that need resigning. Marner can go to a young and rebuilding team and help it make the playoffs.
Mitch Marner you are a flyer
Negative.... The best chance for the leafs is if they can trade Marner near the trade deadline and it won't be for much. Too big of a risk for a team to take on that contract, not be able to resign him and then loose him for nothing. Maybe a 2nd and a 4th at the trade deadline, and the leafs retaining the max salary
What did Dubois trade get Winnipeg again? So why would the Leafs get less than that? Why should they settle for less than that? Dubois had one year remaining when traded.
Why would you want a rental, if he doesn't perform in the playoffs?🤔 Low value as a rental.
Will Brad make the same mistake with Marner? Or will Craig want to take a crack with him cause Craig likes Marner 🤷♂️
I still wonder if we could trade EP40 for him.. both get a fresh start after horrible playoffs. Get A year to see how he does. They probably make close to the same amount next year. Just a crazy thought for 2 players who have been struggling in the playoffs.
Yeah no u never do that😂
were trading him because of salary cap issues..dont want another over paid star. Unless its in a Quinn Hughes package and I presume no one is lining up for that offer.
@kenna7686 Out of curiosity, Do you think it's a bad deal for Vancouver? Or for toronto? They both underwhelmed in the playoffs and both make about the same. The length of the contract is the difference. A fresh start may do each other good
Nucks would not trade Petterson… one bad playoff doesn’t warrant this. Unlike Marner, he’s actually proven he can be a factor in the playoffs in his rookie season.
@GR-bn3xj
ATM the length of the contract is an issue.
It's not a knock on EP.
He's a great talent.
Plus he's a C.
But Mitch is a local boy.
So if all is equal let's say, the tie breaker is won by Marner with that, for me.
Only thing worse than getting eliminated in the first round is missing the playoffs altogether, just ask the Habs, Wings, Sabers and Devils.
Are you stupid?? As a Wings fan I would much rather miss the playoffs and get a high draft pick than have my team humiliated in he first round every year...
Marner doesn’t show up when it counts which is what COUNTS so he’s talented but useless.
he has a nmc
Leaf's will not get much for Marner. No team want a player who disappears and cries in the playoffs. When it gets rough, just leave Marner on the bench.
Marner wants to be back on mcdavids like you can see it in his stats lol
Trade leon for Mitch?
Leafs can’t score in the playoffs and the “solution” is to trade your leading playoff scorer and two way (former selke finalist) offense-man. No, it makes zero sense and it makes even less sense to trade him on the “cheap”. If there is a high upside talented young forward or defender then it may make some sense but at the least he will at least cost significant draft capital to acquire. “Cheap” trade is nonsense. Sorry, what did Pierre Luc Dubois get traded for again? He had one year left on his deal too. You think Marner is worth less? Marner is a playmaker. When shooters don’t score is that Marner’s fault? He cannot score if players don’t put it in the net. Not scoring was a team issue not a Marner issue. It was also a coaching issue. The coach simply did not have an answer when teams shut down the Leafs. The salary cap management questions are on management not the player. It takes two parties to sign a player contract. If you don’t like the cap situation who decided to put the team together. Not the players.
You lose on a Marner trade if you only look at the trade return in and of itself. Only the most inept GM would give valuable assets for a player they can sign next year as a free agent. (Also his agent should be fired if he doesn't already know what Marner can get signing as a free agent. Not that any team would "tamper" that would be like abusing the LTI rules.)
The win is the salary savings and the player(s) signed with the savings. Where this is problematic is that if Marner shines elsewhere and his replacements don't, all senior management will be out.
What about Petterson for Marner?
Pettersson just signed an extension. Doubtful that trade happens.
Why trade a player that's not trying and putting up points, then a guy that has more cap n when he tries he plays crappy look at other trades to make first
As a Canucks fan, I’d rather we trade Elias Pettersson for Brady Tkachuk!
@@blissstated leafs want tkachuk too
marner to the penguins 🙌
I give a Bottle of Jack and a bag peanuts for Mitch
Some of y'all are gonna be shocked by the return, lol. He's getting way more than LA paid for Dubois.
Beats my half eaten MilkyWay.
@@TheBirdyyesesI’d bet he plays out his contract and leave as a free agent
He’s an RFA though. He has to agree to anywhere he would be traded to.
NTC
Marner will be UFA but he has a NMC.
Management can only trade him if he agrees to be traded!

It’s the Scottish national flag. Don’t know if it’s accidental or not, but it absolutely is 🏴.
