I got to play Akuma for ~40 minutes at the Capcom offices, and they showed us a small selection of the changes in season 2. We did not have access to training mode, weren't allowed to play against CPU lvl. 8, and weren't allowed to dig through the other characters for balance changes.

I like the low health. It balances things out, and people won't be quick to call Akuma OP.
I bet they don't play basara at samsho5sp. God, he's more squishy than 3s akuma.
3s akuma well played is a good character but the lack of health is a big issue ir you don't have a good defense. Same with sf6; those who ask what you said never played old fighting games. It's frustrating that part of the player base ask for fixing stuff known since 1998.

nah marisa's highest recorded damage is like 8.8 k and it is extremelly situational, like almost no chances of happening in a match statistically. you need a fully charged gladius that trades with a jab so frame perfect, then you do the normal combo f.HK>ex spartan kick, b.HP> dr b.charged HP> dr b.HP heavy spartan kick into CA. this does 8,820 damage from what i remember, so unless she gets a damage buff anywhere in there, no one tap for marisa. btw her dp punish max damage with ca is 7,7k so if that happens you still need a jab combo

@@EnmaMusicProduction Meanwhile his moves are interestingly becoming more like Gouken's. Chargeable fireball, upwards tatsu, a palm strike that leads to combos... love it.
Love CA and Supers where the opponent interacts and actually does stuff like in Jamie's super. Makes it feel a bit more alive to me.
If there were more character specific interactions then I'd probably agree, but it's just generic resistance it just feels flattening, especially because the outcome has to be the same every time.

having low HP dosnt matter if your opponent dosnt get to play
only about 10 % less HP is nothing and he can do 50-60% combo damage to other characters with ease.

Most of the cast can two touch him, and only be 3 touched at worst.
Akuma is going to be good but not as good as y'all are dreaming. He was low mid by the end of sfv, I doubt it'll be much different.
Importantly akuma players are terrible and rely on his plethora of skips, just stop them twice and easy out play them.
@@jkdman2007 lol bruh... where do you get 50 - 60% with ease? he needs to land a clean jump in, have 3 bars and less than 25% health to get that damage. every character in the game can do 50% with 3 bars and a clean jump in.
plus akuma has always been reliant on resources to find openings with OD air FB and OD demon flip.... now that he no longer has a teleport to escape mixups coupled with the constant burning of meter & he's fina be in burnout real fast...
having no demon teleport or invincible SRK? if he eats 1 combo in burnout..... bye bye
taking away his defensive option might be brutal but he's still gunna be dope... just not a win button
8:20 Not every character needs to be hype, you need the incredible hype characters *and* the more restrained/oddball characters or else everything gets stale.
That being said, I'm looking forward to Arcsys getting to hold the "our character can't compete with the other new releases" bag. Capcom got it in SF5 when they released Abigail against Geese goddamn Howard in Tekken 7 and Trunks in Dragonball Fighter Z, and now Tekken's got it with Lydia into Akuma and Slayer. It's gonna be like... Unemployed Answer in Guilty Gear Strive 2 vs Robo Heihachi and True Psycho Bison or some shit in Tekken 9 and Street Fighter 7.

@@enclavehere4705 It's less of a "gas in the tank" problem and more of a 'we have an idea for a new character to release... Oh shit, this was a really bad time for a new character' thing. Like... I love all the new characters in Strive, but there's no way any of them would generate Akuma and Slayer levels of hype on reveal. The only time I've ever seen anything like that was G for Street Fighter 5.
@@kevingriffith6011 I think the hypest reveal for a new character period was Leroy in Tekken 7. Bamco just really tainted his image once he was playable and it was discovered how overtuned he was, and I don't think he'll ever escape that stigma.
I like the heavy punch change for Luke, it’s nice to have another button other than crouching heavy punch to combo into, more variety to his gameplay imo.
But they really need to nerf him in other ways to let him have that

Cool to see how they do Akuma in a system where everyone is already slightly more juiced than ever. I'm looking forward to the patch shake-up, I've been looking for an excuse to try SF6 again for a couple months.

Akuma is gonna have the same issue he did in SFV on release - everyone thinks he's beyond broken because of nothing but Akuma mirrors for months until he gets tickled by Marisa or Manon and _explodes._
Marisa doing LP target combo into forward stomp into LVL 3 will kill Akuma at 50% health guaranteed.
@@chefv1deogame5k damage to marisa is available from a lp>lp ex double hit for the ground bounce and then lk spartan kick. im pretty sure thats over 3k damage alone now if you add the super it does 5k. ggez
Did they nerf Luke's damage or something? I keep hearing marisa, but luke does like 10% less damage than marisa but has more ways to open up akuma. So won't he be the one doing the heavy lifting of torching akuma?

I wish Ryu's fireball could charge like Akumas, it was part of a v trigger in 5 anyways. Seems like he should get it too.
5:33 Probably niche usage for sneaky things, like side switching with juggled opponents to get out of the corner, or sliding back from any full-screens (like Spiral Arrow, Condor Spire, Dragon Lash, etc) with time to punish(?), or far teleporting under a crossup attempt to be in zoning range when they land.
But yeah, it's not horribly useful; not at least until someone discovers some kind of odd tech with it that's useful.
I'm sad they nerfed his signature demon flips. I used do the thing I learned from Pikachu Akuma on third strike and sf4

Is 9k health even a problem in this game? All the top tiers do ridonkulous damage already. If you’re gonna get blown up, might as well have the bigger gun to blow them up first.
fr luke can 2 tap anyone but gief in this game and so can marisa and maybe ryu too. this aint nothing new except maybe mow kimberly can 2 tap akuma which is funny to think about

I was thinking that teleport could be used for baiting drive rush checks? Like I know it's no Dee Jay sway, but it does seem to halt your momentum for a bit, could you use it just before you're within range of a 2MK then do teleport grab?
i think the fat ass fire fist is going to be better for that, since he reels back before unleashing mega punch and i think its safe too so that might be his own sway

Akuma dropping later in the month is gonna be exactly like when T8 just dropped and everyone and their mother picked up Reina only for them to drop her three weeks in. It's gonna be the same thing with Akuma. I call moments like these, the Herd Culling.

Also BTW, T7 "first" DLC reveal was Geese so that was fucking WILD, he most defently could have stand up to Slayer or Akuma right now specially since Akuma was already on T7 in the first place .
PS Now that I think about it, it is kinda funny how T7 had Akuma as a base char and he waas DLC on SF for the last 2 games.

in sfv, when he threw air fireball at the beginning of his jump instead of the peak, he'd have to go through the rest of the arc anyway, so the fireball could be minus,. but it looks like you fall faster after throwing it sooner in the arc in this game. That alone seems WILD to me. 15:56 Watch how he falls straight down after throwing the fireball low in the jump arc. i'm really interested to see what kinda grime this move cooks up

I haven’t played SF since IV came out. I wonder if Akuma still has lower hp than other characters. I guess that was the trade off for having an air fireball and a raging demon
Yes, Akuma has 9k hp. Everybody else has 10k. Only exceptions are Marisa and Honda who have 10.5k, and Zangief who has 11k.
I'm four minutes into this video right now, and I'm exhausted. As someone who doesn't play Akuma, season 2 is gonna be nothing but pain.

every character except Zangief, Marisa and Honda have the same health. Zangief has 11k, Marisa/Honda have 10.5k
In this game in particular I think the low health is going to be a big problem. Damage is so high across the board already. Ryu buffed punish counter meter dump combo does 7k very easily. That means that one single HP to Shoryu into reversal bait will kill him. Marisa will do absurd things to him. Blanka, Chun, DeeJay, Luke, and even low tiers like Gief will have a really easy time taking a round if they get in and have meter.
Once we see how high his damage goes and how easily he can open up opponents we'll see how much the reduced health impacts his viability
I'm all in for broken Akuma just cos I want to see Tokido dominating again with him but boy I'm going to cry tears of pure suffering playing online vs this character lmao.

Info on the teleport. What they mean by it not being invincible is really weird. You are invincible while you are traveling! (See edit) You just come out of invincibility a little bit before you stop or use the throw. So if your opponent knows when/where you are going to stop they can always punish it before you can block. But, if they try to hit you too early you will phase through it and then you can punish their button, and if they try to hit you too late you can block in time. Also you can mega punish a wakeup parry with the grab, the punish counter damage is huge because it seems to activate the normal throw punish counter effect (takes a bar of drive-gauge, much bigger than normal damage boost).
Edit: the reason I thought it was invincible is I saw a low whiff against it, so it might go over certain lows, or the intangibility (passing through pushboxes) might allow him to go through certain things that you expect to hit.
not at all, the thing woth the teleport is that its the exact same as blanka's command dash where he passes throught you and the same as rashid's command dash. everyone who trued him said the teleport wasn't invincible

I never play Shotos but him as a seondary to Marisa seems good. Seems like a fun character after suffering with AKI for so long

He seems pretty strong, and everyone agrees with that. I was about to ask if you think it justifies the health but you already say that you don't know in the video. I love everything we've seen so far. He's probably the coolest character in the roster. The animations, the moves, the supers... Everything. But it's true that it looks like he dies pretty quickly. Let's see how it goes. Did anyone try Akuma playing against another character to see how much damage he does on an average health?
