      This is true even if the AFK players are less numerous since the release of the game. The reason is that the farming spots have become too obvious for a player with a cannon.
      But it is important not to neglect this problem because other spots will be discovered.

      AFK farmers can now turn off their hitbox and become invincible, super easy to do even, you only need a weapon with Carian Grandeur and a shield with No Skill and anyone can become invincible, ran into this a few times invading at meta levels, definitely sucks the fun out of the game for me.

      @@irishpizza2823 "couldn't"
      That's the problem. They absolutely can and in this game it would be more justified than ever. There are many many powerful Spirit Ashes that they could allow the host to summon in order to make up for it. You could literally summon bosses to fight alongside you with a Co-Op partner and a Blue. This game more than ever should have a 5-6 Invader limit.

    They should have never removed covenants. this game has the perfect lay out for covanants. Ranni's Royal Guard, Rykard's Recusants, Mohgwyn Knights, Morgott's Executioners, Redahn's Faithful, and Miquella's Blades.
    All having special rewards for succesful invasions and all having special themes and associated invasion zones.

    • @addictiontransfer3731
      @addictiontransfer3731 2 года назад +48

      @@LizardOnAMushroom2358 in previous games you could become a member of a covenant without directly speaking with the covenant head, they could be joined through either speaking with a proxy npc, or even praying at a shrine. So even if the player has to kill morgott, it should be possible to still interact with that covenant without the "technical" covenant leader being alive.
      In morgott's case, his entire goal and theme is the devotion and protection of the erdtree. So if he has to be killed we could still take his place as protectors by invading in the capital under his banner.
      Or better yet make it so you can only be in his covenant if you havent killed him yet, then the only way you could get his covanant's rewards is if youbinvaded at a lower level and it would alsp prevent twinking. This way it would encourage lower level fair invasions at multiple levels throughout the game.

    • @micahgraff8998
      @micahgraff8998 2 года назад +17

      as cool of a concept as covenants were, i think they contributed a lot to people's hate for invasions in ds3. if you wanted a unique item you had to either successfully invade hosts and their summons anywhere from 10-30 times which could take hours if not days and gets really freaking annoying, especially if you don't like invasions. if you didn't want to invade, you could spend unbelievable amounts of time farming ghrus in farron, or silver knights in anor londo. i enjoy invading, but i'm not very good at it and locking these really cool items that generally become completely obsolete behind a ton of invasions was a bad call. maybe if you gave every covenant a series of hunt quests or defend quests like you see in volcano manor to increase your rank it would work, but that's a whole lot of stuff to add in.

    • @addictiontransfer3731
      @addictiontransfer3731 2 года назад +21

      @@micahgraff8998 the problem ds3 had with covenant items were that some of them were required to get the platinum trophy. A perfect fix would be for the items and spells to be cool but not required for any trophies. The entire point of a reward is for it to be awarded to someone who achieves something. The difficulty in acquiring it is precisely why its so satisfying to acquire. It also grants using the item a certain level prestige since less people will inevitably be able to get them. The fact its hard to get only adds to the incentive to invade in the first place. Which is kind of the whole point. If its too hard then don't do it, but not everything has to be for everyone. By erasing the challenge entirely it just erases all that extra incentive to try and get better at invading along with it.
      The point is yes its hard to invade, and yes its hard to get some covenant items, but thats why they shouldnt be a requirement for anyone, just a fun challange with a satisfying reward for those with the perseverance and determination to acquire them.

    • @micahgraff8998
      @micahgraff8998 2 года назад +6

      @@addictiontransfer3731 yeah, and i totally get that, but i much prefer the concept of locking it behind a difficult boss and the like. the biggest problem in ds3 was that most items got completely outclassed by something else. like yeah bro i love using lightning spear, it's a neat spell but it's getting a bit weak. where do i get great lightning spear? oh, behind thirty successful invasions that tend to be ganks? it's going to take so long that at this point i might as well kill soul of cinder at lv 17 so i can get sunlight spear. it takes a shorter amount of time. now i think this would've been acceptable if 1: covenant items were obtained for each player that you killed, 2: the amount required were more around 20, 3: the items were actually worth getting. not by being the best in their category, but by having unique effects not seen in any other item. wolf knight's greatsword is a great example of this. even then, it's still a notable time investment to obtain and if you don't have access to internet you have to find the optimal farming route and grind that while praying you get lucky. i absolutely loved the mechanics, such as the watchdogs of farron and the mound makers, but getting the items was irrationally difficult for something that would mainly be used for cosplay purposes or lower level versions of certain spells. don't get me wrong, i would love to have covenants where players can be summoned in to fight radahn like the other npcs, or to hunt people in the lake of rot, or to invade dedicated furled fingers as recusants. it would be great for morgott to summon executioners across leyndell to assist his knights or for maliketh's death-vowed knights to protect the rune of death from those who wish to take it, who might be a part of a black knife assassins covenant. gravelords were such a cool idea, maybe that could be mogh's. but i would prefer the amount of covenant items to be limited to 3 and for each item to be obtainable offline by doing an invasion or defense quest, not by going up against 3 bull goat stars of ruin mages. the mechanics are super cool, but i don't want to invest 6 hours of time so i can get this one funny item that isn't integral to anything and has a clearly better option.

      maximum of 2 buffs, including those that enhance the sword with specific damage as long as you use that item to allow multiplayer
      if you are buffed while you use it, the buffs are taken away
      pros:
      -no power trip into 1 shot build
      -would also take care of great rune problem since i'd concider that a buff (i'd also make it unable for the host to use a great rune at all for multiplayer)
      -makes people that solo bosses with the kamehameha instead of helping the host beat it actually have to get good and play the game if they want to help.
      cons:
      -invader still get fucked for invasions
      -host still has absurd advantages (more flasks, ect)
      -makes bosses harder since the ghosts cant buff themselves as much

    I do feel the poise balancing needs work and I'm glad you mentioned it. There's some great fashion in this game but hitting the 61 poise limit is so damn restricting. And you have sets like Veterans which, while they look great are so clearly optimal in terms of wgt/poise ratio that I'd be mad to not wear it over another "heavy" armour piece that barely goes beyond that limit. I think a good, simple fix might be to tweak bullgoat talisman's effect whereby it could give a flat poise boost+a smaller percentage rather than the 33% it gives currently. That would make lighter armour sets actually viable for pvp.

      I would honestly prefer for poise to be divided into 3 or 4 classes instead, Clothes 20 poise(normally boosts stats or grants some sort of passive effect), Light Armor 40 poise (enough to tank very light weapons), Medium Armor 61 poise (the most popular breakpoint), and Heavy Armor 93 poise (enough to tank a 1H R1 from a Halberd, shouldn't be able to tank anything stronger than that).
      This would allow people to mix and match armors more comfortably as you would now only need to worry about the look of your outfit and the actual defenses.
      Another good change would be to buff Light Load a bit, nothing to make it meta but enough to change it's current status of: you're gimping yourself massively by doing this. Maybe extend the light roll distance or reduce weapon stamina consumption.

    Shoutout to Bloodborne for giving invaders access to all twenty+ blood vials though, but making healing PARRIABLE. Hell yeah.
    But, really, there are already effects that are edited in PvP. Talisman buffs most notably. There is no reason why most buffs should follow suit in their application to enemy players. Royal Knight's Resolve, Seppuku, etc.
    I agree that there should be a merchant for just about EVERY crafting material for endgame characters. Realizing that I couldn't make infinite rotbone arrows because the Aeonian Butterflies didn't respawn was head-scratching, given that all it'd take was a meager FTH investment to be able to use Rotten Breath, dealing more damage, more Rot Buildup, and be infinitely reusable. Proccing Rot off on Mohg by shooting him in the forehead with seventeen arrows felt like an /actual success/ rather than just two-tapping with a spell. Felt like I earned that massive damage over time, and needing to craft more kept me from just applying it at the start of every fight!
    But it doesn't change the fact that Elden Ring is... hurting, from a lot of weird design decisions. I miss being a Mound Maker most of all, though.

    One of the biggest problem of ER PVP is how janky it feels, like an afterthought, it's unoptimised, not fair and provides the worst experiences for both host and invader. Not well integrated in general gameplay flow, despite having two main quests in the game being related to invasion mechanic, too many steps to partake - buy crafting kit -> collect items for remedy -> craft remedy -> activate it on every grace reset/teleport/etc -> use the finger, if you fail to find an active zone, repeat previous steps minus kit. I know people who never crafted anything for entire playthrough. Rewards are bad, not enough to stimulate your average joe to engage in PVP, DS2 had bellfry invasions which were pretty noob friendly and provided valuable upgrade materials, DS1 had forest invasions which also had chance to drop something nice from time to time.
    Gigantic world and NOT A SINGLE ZONE that is designed around some sort of covenant, gravelord covenant and rat covenant were pretty great, I wish ER had mechanic similar to that. To have covenants in general would be nice, no idea why they completely ditched this RPG mechanic.
    There is a potential for PVP minigame, different type of invasion where you may "invade" a monster or maybe a mini boss even. Could have invasions where your goal is not to kill a host but to reach certain objective, steal something from a host or do an activity in certain area.
    Invasions are still limited by stupid rules of DS3, despite having insanely large world. Biggest world and it provides the lonliest of feelings.
    Invasions SHOULD be global, it's not even a discussion.

    About the inactive areas, I think one other contributing factor is the removal of solo invasions which cuts off a huge portion of the player base from multiplayer. I struggle to find invasions in Limgrave and Stormveil hotspots with Elden Ring's current 60-75k population while I could get almost instant invasions in DS2 Forest of Fallen Giants and Heide's Tower even when its population was at 3-4k. Also, considering Fromsoft's priorities now, I doubt they will fix fundamental PvP issues and I worry that they will only further nerf invaders to the point of futility.
    As for the crafting materials, unfortunately I feel like the grind is intended by Fromsoft to artificially increase the playtime. This is because the asinine low drop rate not only applies to these materials, but other items and equipment drops as well throughout the game. For example, Explosive Stone Clumps and Large Glintstone Scraps are uncraftable and have very low drop rate, Armors such as the Cleanrot Knight Set, Imp Heads and Black Dumpling take really long to farm and there's even the rare purple item visual effect to make the player "excited" to get them.

      I've seen the solo invasion thing float around, and as much as I personally would be fine with solo invasions, I think there's a better fix available:
      Fix phantom scaling. Seriously - do just that and do it well. Once you've done that - let anybody invade and co-op anywhere, at any level, no restrictions. It will be hard and there would be growing pains with getting the scaling right, but it would be SO WORTH IT!

    • @Adrian-ub3yz
      @Adrian-ub3yz 2 года назад +1

      @@monsieurdorgat6864 I don't thinks this would fix the core issue though, which is that there are far more invaders than hosts playing co-op, if you co-op you will get invaded almost instantly, but finding someone to invade seems impossible sometimes. This is because Elden Ring is not designed to promote cooperative play, there are far too many systems pushing players into singleplayer, to name a few: spirit ashes, not being able to use Torrent, phantoms being automatically kicked whenever you defeat an open-world mini-boss and an open-world filled with barriers, causing phantoms to leave just to be resummoned 10 meters inside the dungeon the group was unable to enter beforehand.
      Apart from fixing these issues (which seems unlikely to happen), the only thing that will very effectively increase multiplayer activity is solo invasions. This will also promote cooperative play, as a host that will get invaded anyway might want to summon help from summon signs or blue ring to stand a better chance against invaders.

      @monsieurdorgat6864 2 года назад +1

      @@Adrian-ub3yz While I agree that, in light of only those considerations, it would probably be ideal, I don't see that ever being a viable option because Fromsoft never managed to synchronize horses for multiplayer, and because of Fromsoft's hard stance on invasions that they've continued ramping up from Bloodborne, to DS3, to Elden Ring.
      So allowing solo invasions anywhere wouldn't work. You'd arbitrarily be forced off your horse all the time, potentially in the middle of horse combat, which would be lethal and a waste of everyone's time.
      The best compromise would be to allow solo invasions exclusively in the dungeons and legacy dungeons, but given Fromsoft's continual coddling of the PvE only crowd since Bloodborne and continuing into DS3, I don't see that happening either.
      Just making criteria looser seems like the best negotiable compromise, not that I disagree that solo invasions in dungeon areas would be nice, especially if, as G9 says, invasions are tied to the host's proximity to a certain grace.

Only thing I disagree with is dual wield movesets - the issue I see is that some powerstance movesets are almost the same speed as the regular attacks (curved swords, straight swords, daggers seem even faster, thrusting swords have ridiculous reach on the first L1). As far as I'm concerned From needs to reduce the speed of these powerstance attacks - if only slightly - as most of these weapon classes won't gain all that much from increased poise damage and weapons like straight swords are generally better one-handed anyway.
    I'm interested in whether you think katanas are balanced, too. From what I can tell they are basically just straight swords but WAY longer with innate bleed and better unique ashes of war. Even with bleed, seppeku, etc. being nerfed I still think they should be slowed down just a bit as SS seem to be in a decent place to me, ignoring high poise builds shutting them down.

    A very important thing that needs to be altered which was briefly mentioned.
    Powerstance weapons should not do double damage.
    A L1 hit should do a combined damage 1.5 R1 damage, each weapon doing 0.75 R1 damage.
    So if only one weapon connects, it does less damage than an R1.
    However, currently it is whatever as it's still basically hitting someone with a regular R1. Meaning they are just superior than R1s.
    Should probably also be slightly slow and consume slightly more stamina.

      It’s not double damage, it’s somewhere in the ballpark of 1.7x. Still very high compared to its DS 2 predecessor of ~1.3x.
      However, depending on what weapon type you have power stances, you can actually end up having lower DPS than if you simply two-handed the weapon (at least in PvE). Katanas and halberds for instance take roughly twice as long to do a full L1 than it would to do a 2H R1 due to the weapons swing one after another instead of both at the same time, which combined with a 1.7 damage multiplier means you get higher damage output (and less stamina consumption/equip load) by simply 2H the thing. Straight swords and spears on the other hand both swing at the same time with an L1, giving similar swing times to the R1s and thusly an insane DPS boost. Any balancing to powerstance has to take these differences into account.

      I've found that the best way to be an invader is to use a setup that actively avoids interacting with the host and his 2 overleveled password summons completely. Either as a Jar Cannon/Greatbow sniper with maximum possible damage boosters to just 1-shot snipe the host, or a Concealing Veil + max damage setup Bolt of Gransax stealth sniper who also just 1-shot snipes the host.
      Except the main issue with these is that it's actively avoiding all of the combat mechanics, but either way trying to engage in melee is also impossible to engage with the mechanics anyways with 2 lvl 600+ password phantoms spamming RoB and every endgame spell at the same time. So it's either avoid playing the most fun aspects of the game to avoid dealing with cancer, or trying to engage in what's supposed to be the most fun aspects of the game but only deal with cancer.

    Fantastic video, I agree with everything here. I think people who constantly comment about your criticisms are just being overly defensive about a game they love, but I also understand seeing a 30 second clip of someone who's been dealing with BHS for 4 hours straight and thinking "wow, this guy hates this game huh". In reality, criticism is how we're going to make Elden Ring as good as it can be, so hopefully a structured video like this will get a more positive response. Sending this over to Bandai as soon as possible!

    I sent Bandi an email / trouble ticket for Elden Ring.
    Subject:
    Elden Ring PvP has major unbalance and it’s killing the player base. RUclipsr JeeNiNe has made a very detailed video and the whole PvP community is begging for these fixes.
    [included RUclips link]
    Please everyone, this took 5 minutes to make an account and send a ticket. Go tell Bandi so we can play ER for years to come.

    I submitted a request on Bandia's website yesterday and they emailed back that the video was sent to the development team. They also said there is no guarantee they implement the suggestions. I really think everyone who cares about the pvp should send this video so they know how many people agree that changes needed to be implemented.

    Honestly scaling down is so easy to do, proportionally scale down the total stat to the host's total stat, while not changing the stat distribution at all.

    I hope the next patch comes soon, to be honest. It will define my expectations for the PVP in this game, because if they don't fix some of the absolutely glaring issues like bhs, I'm positive that most of us will not stick around any longer.

    I agree how elden ring doesn't give the player enough materials in one playthrough, usually when you pick a consumable item up you only get 1 when it should be at least 15 or even 20 so the player can actually use it. To easily fix the players receiving damage they can just double or even triple the defense of the player so that they don't need 60 vigor

    Holy fucking shit, a reasonable, calm, cordial person voicing genuine concerns about a souls game to Fromsoft and how to fix them? I must be hallucinating.
    In all seriousness tho, thank you so much for saying all of this. Especially the fact that you weren’t an absolute douchbag about it, it’ll really encourage Fromsoft to take this criticism very seriously and get them patched (hopefully) soon.

    Myazaki in Dark Souls 3: Poise in DS3 is working as intended for balancing reasons (no poise).
    Since magic is too OP, it is extremely nerfed in terms of speed and damage to not damage PVP.
    Myazaki in Elden Ring: If you use two sword with bleed status, you will get bleed in every single attack possible.
    If you use this flask, you'll get infinite FP to spam whatever magic you want ad infinitum.

    Haven't even watched the whole thing and I can already say I agree with you 100%
    I've spent over a thousand hours on DS2 alone, not counting all the other soul games and right now I don't even want to play Elden Ring because of all this stupid L2 spam and broken shit. I miss the parries, the ravioli backsteps, the fights that last more than a minute because nothing in the game is able to one-shot you. It's sad and I hope they fix these things or I'll be going back to DS3 just to do some multiplayer

      @@Solothefuture1 DS2 on PC has a dedicated PvP community. However, pretty much everyone and their mother has a cheat table open during gameplay, mostly to counter other cheaters, but also just to plain cheat. Crash hacks have become pretty popular there (they just crash your game, that's it).
