For this video - not so great analysis - nobody spoke about a lot of goals coming from midfield players, a lot of assists coming from wings, comparison between teams we played in home ( some middle and low table teams) against visits ( Liverpool,Newcastle, Chelsea), you mentioned Mings has been injured but not mentioned how Konsa is growing up as leader in defense and ,finally, got an international call-up.... I know you can do better :)
Villa fan here. I'm really pleased to finally see an in depth look at my team on Tifo, and I agree with most of this video, unfortunately the analysis of Villa's shape and Kamara's positional change is not accurate. Villa under Emery have always played as a 4-4-2 out of possession and 3-2-5 in possession (or 3-box-3 if you prefer). When transitioning from out of possession to in possession, the LB would push up to become the LW, LM tucks into the left half space, second striker drops into the right half space, RM/RW stays wide, 2 CBs and RB would shift across a little to become a back 3. This gives the 3-2-5 shape. The change that was made recently is that instead of the RM (McGinn) staying wide, the RB (Cash) pushes up to the RW position, RM (McGinn) drops in to the right DM slot, and the right DM (Kamara) drops back to the RCB slot vacated by Cash. The attacking shape has not changed, only this one rotation has been added to change which personnel are in which positions within the shape.

I think this is fair and valid. I’m a die hard Villa fan and it’s clear to see that our away form needs to approve. But the key thing is, I really think Emery can get it out of them. And we are getting better week on week. It’s a seriously exciting time. The other thing is - I take your point about conference league but I feel that most Villa fans if we can pretty much guarantee top 6 before the end of the conference run, would rather we went for the league, because that enables more money, more growth and overall it elevates our status on the world stage back to what we used to be. Not to say we throw away the conference league but we need to trust in the 2nd side, and with the exception of Legia, they have shown they’re up to it. Here we go!! UTV ❤
go for the league?! bit optimistic mate & i’m a villan myself… also, we should 100% play the first team in europe if we progress to the knock outs, I want a cup even if you don’t
As an Unai emery fan (I am a Spanish football fan in general)...I just am loving his redemption arc in English football. I hope he creates something tangible there. Hope Nico Williams moves to Villa if he ever leaves Athletic.
As villa fan I’m happy to see the hype but we need to turn up in the big games. When I mean big games I’m talking about those moments where we can push on but always ultimately crumble. Forest couple weeks back was that moment where we could have put ourselves amongst the top 3 briefly to make a statement but completely crumbled. I feel next week against spurs is another key moment.
Brilliant analysis, fantastic insight into Aston villa, that left side last season was brilliant for villa, and they should be back for the Christmas period
spot on about the away form. Really slow starters atm conceding that early should not happen nearly as often, a mentality shift might be in order. It is also interesting to note how a few key players, most obviously Bailey play so much better at home.
Finally an intelligent pundit with legitimately speaking facts that is not London club or ‘top six bias for views’ or how Man United changed their toilet paper in the bathroom that lead to a change in form blah blah Talksport,Sky Sports take note.
Our current ppg gets us 82 points That is guaranteed top 4 even without 'fixing' away form And that's without considering we've gone to SJP Anfield a d the City Ground, the 3 hardest away games for opposition teams
A decent overview of how we're playing but the point about away form doesn't take into account how good our record was last season (1.9ish ppg) and that the corresponding away fixtures last season against Newcastle, Liverpool, Forest, Wolves only yielded 2 points (as opposed to 1 this season). We were brilliant playing away against bottom half teams in 22-23 under Emery and I expect similar results this time around (even if we're playing a more progressive style of football now). If we can keep our home form up and raise the away average to 1.5 ppg then we could finish top 3/4 no problem. Also it's worth mentioning the multiple reasons WHY we are creating so much more xg this season: - Flexible build-up play where the threat can come from several dimensions (multiple midfielders who can take the ball under pressure, forwards dropping into the half spaces to receive/lay-off/turn, centre-backs like Pau and Lenglet who can play accurate long passes). - More effective and varied ways to play through teams who sit deep (Tielemans wide role vs Fulham for instance) - More touches in opp. box (6th this season vs 14th last) - More penalties (3 already vs. 3 entire season in 22/23) - Luiz having more impact higher up the pitch (his attacking stats now surpass Bruno G, for instance, in most areas). - Even more ruthless on the counter - Leon Bailey super sub!
I think the best part of being a Villa fan atm is the home form being SO good. We never used to have that kind of control and dominance at home and now it's a bit of a fortress, I now expect them to win most games at home. Away is definitely trickier right now, we have to be better, though I will say going to Newcastle and Liverpool are some of the toughest games you can get.
The Newcastle game was just too early for Villa who were trying to bed in new players, four key players injured and against a Newcastle side that looked great pre-season from the off. Both will finish in the top 6.
If we can get 9 points in our next four games (Spurs, Bournemouth away, Man City, Arsenal, home) I think we are definitely top 4 contenders and even title contenders. I would think 5th would be where we will finish. We have Ramsey and Moreno back after the break from long term injuries.

Every Villa fan knows the away form needs to improve and it's still far too early to talk about top 4 with only a third of the season gone. The plus for Villa fans is the incremental improvement. Since Unai has come in everyone can see what he's doing and how he's improving players on a weekly basis. He's got everyone at Villa onboard regardless of how this season pans out.
I could definitely see Villa getting CL meaning top 5 this season… United, spurs and newcastle seem inconsistent and chelsea are playing catch up at this point
Champions league won’t be top 5 unless we get to be one of the best 2 leagues in Europe this season, and with Brighton, Man U, and Newcastle all being awful in Europe that doesn’t look likely
@@connor4435I'd hardly say Brighton's European form is terrible plus there's West Ham and Liverpool in Europa and City in Champions League to push it aswell as us in the Conference League
Why not top 4 and Conference League? Moreno and Ramsay back soon, and there's the January window. Quite a bit of depth already. Tielemans, Diego Carlos, Bailey, Duran are class players add in Lenglet, Dendonker, Traore+ our January signings (probably a RB, CM and forward) and we've probably got the squad to do both...
The current away games (newcastle and anfield) are pretty brutal places to go and hard to win at. Forest you could look at the match stats and see villa were just unlucky. Think a few more away games at mid table teams is required to have full judgement on the away form
Bang on, most of us fans see it this way. Players to come back and we are still improving despite the blip against Forrest. To Emery's credit, every loss is a lesson and we are better thereafter. Kamara, Torres, Bailey and Digne started the season slowly but now on form; Tielemans is at last emerging as the player we hoped for, and Ramsey and Moreno will add depth and hopefully another level of threat to what we have. Diaby is still finding his feet but he will be a killer when fully established. I see better things to come, check again after December's games, this is the litmus test.
Perfectly put...our big players lost to injury have cost us and if we had kept them and with UNI doing his magic we would be 2nd and in a very strong 4th placed position... With a good signing in January and 2 I'm the summer then we will be a real danger next season and we are already this season... VTID

Villa always come out of internation breaks stronger and the next 4 games will say a lot about our top four chances. Well done to TIFO for not putting our performances down to "luck" this time.
for various reasons i think the current top 4 will remain the same - but who finishes 1-4 is up for grabs. Villa are in the next rank alongside Chelsea, Man Utd, Brighton (probably), West Ham (possibly) & Newcastle who might get CL via 5th but will be happy with EL qualification and good runs in europe and/or the FA Cup
IMO, title challengers are Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal. Top 4 to 8 challengers are Newcastle, Brighton, Spurs, Villa, Chelsea, Man Utd. West Ham is an honourable mention with an outside chance to finish in top 8.
Wow Man U and Chelsea in there I guess United could keep the fluke on but they've been terrible this season and Chelsea I just don't rate I'd put Brentford ahead of both of them

Villa are proving why a club claiming "injury problems" is the reason for poor form is BS. Every team sufferes injuries every year and a good manager is able to reinvent the team to account for the loss of some key players.

UTV ❤
Yer completely agree
go for the league?! bit optimistic mate & i’m a villan myself… also, we should 100% play the first team in europe if we progress to the knock outs, I want a cup even if you don’t
Great video thank you, just to point out that the improvement on possession is 7.84% not 4% 👍 Emery is a genius, this video is spot on
As an Unai emery fan (I am a Spanish football fan in general)...I just am loving his redemption arc in English football.
Best summary analysis I’ve seen of Villa under Emery on any platform. Excellent job! 👍👏👏
spot on about the away form. Really slow starters atm conceding that early should not happen nearly as often, a mentality shift might be in order. It is also interesting to note how a few key players, most obviously Bailey play so much better at home.
Omg the legend of Sam Tighe. I remember when this guy was a huge meme on brfootball for some reason
top presentation, quick, clear and precise - good presentation skills, great job!
Sam highlights just why,we Villa fans love Unai.If any other team lost 4 starters,2 for the season, they'd be in the bottom half at best.Well done Sam.
Finally an intelligent pundit with legitimately speaking facts that is not London club or ‘top six bias for views’ or how Man United changed their toilet paper in the bathroom that lead to a change in form blah blah
Talksport,Sky Sports take note.
This was great work, Sam.
Our current ppg gets us 82 points
That is guaranteed top 4 even without 'fixing' away form
And that's without considering we've gone to SJP Anfield a d the City Ground, the 3 hardest away games for opposition teams
Luckily the premier league isn't over in November
A decent overview of how we're playing but the point about away form doesn't take into account how good our record was last season (1.9ish ppg) and that the corresponding away fixtures last season against Newcastle, Liverpool, Forest, Wolves only yielded 2 points (as opposed to 1 this season). We were brilliant playing away against bottom half teams in 22-23 under Emery and I expect similar results this time around (even if we're playing a more progressive style of football now). If we can keep our home form up and raise the away average to 1.5 ppg then we could finish top 3/4 no problem. Also it's worth mentioning the multiple reasons WHY we are creating so much more xg this season:
- Flexible build-up play where the threat can come from several dimensions (multiple midfielders who can take the ball under pressure, forwards dropping into the half spaces to receive/lay-off/turn, centre-backs like Pau and Lenglet who can play accurate long passes).
- More effective and varied ways to play through teams who sit deep (Tielemans wide role vs Fulham for instance)
- More touches in opp. box (6th this season vs 14th last)
- More penalties (3 already vs. 3 entire season in 22/23)
- Luiz having more impact higher up the pitch (his attacking stats now surpass Bruno G, for instance, in most areas).
- Even more ruthless on the counter
- Leon Bailey super sub!
Great video! Analysis and presentation were fantastic.
This is a great video Sam. Brilliant
Didn't John MacKenzie say Villa would get found out I seem to recall........that aged well John.
If we can get 9 points in our next four games (Spurs, Bournemouth away, Man City, Arsenal, home) I think we are definitely top 4 contenders and even title contenders. I would think 5th would be where we will finish. We have Ramsey and Moreno back after the break from long term injuries.
title contenders 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@delronmackay1473you laugh, but since Emery came in and leading up untill now villa would be 3rd potentially 2nd. And that’s over 34 games I think.
So yes.
Title challenge
@danielhughes7228 I wouldn't bother responding to idiots who use a line of emojis. Clearly, he has no writing skills. Or it borrowed his mommy's phone.
@@sebulreath7401 mate,I don’t think we’re in a title race,I don’t think we ever will be.
But you can’t argue with that stats and facts and villa would be up there since Emery came in the blokes a genius and easily one of the best managers in the world. We’re so lucky to have him and all this success is down to him.
@@danielhughes7228 We are still a club in development. However everything is in place to achieve a lot more than in recent times.
This is a phenomenal video, well done! Great analysis.
Unreal video from a Villa fan! class content
Love this analysis mate. As a villa fan this is spot on. Emery is a brilliant man manager and especially a great tactician. UTV
Ive backed villa £20 to finish top 4 and
Villa to win the league £20 with a 30 point start
villa to finish top 4 okay, villa to win the league? ehh
@@jaycartwright1170
That's with a 30 point start remember
@@marineboy1964 wait what’s a 30 point start? does it add on 30 points to villas season end total
@@jaycartwright1170 yes
Man city get 0 points
Liverpool get 7 points
Man utd get 12 points
Villa and brigton get 30
Points start
I could definitely see Villa getting CL meaning top 5 this season… United, spurs and newcastle seem inconsistent and chelsea are playing catch up at this point
Wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea got it tbf they can’t actually score goal now 😂
Champions league won’t be top 5 unless we get to be one of the best 2 leagues in Europe this season, and with Brighton, Man U, and Newcastle all being awful in Europe that doesn’t look likely
@@connor4435I'd hardly say Brighton's European form is terrible plus there's West Ham and Liverpool in Europa and City in Champions League to push it aswell as us in the Conference League
@@connor4435Top 5 and maybe a slipping into the Top 4 in what something like 1 of 4 seasons
Similar to Newcastle
Why not top 4 and Conference League? Moreno and Ramsay back soon, and there's the January window. Quite a bit of depth already. Tielemans, Diego Carlos, Bailey, Duran are class players add in Lenglet, Dendonker, Traore+ our January signings (probably a RB, CM and forward) and we've probably got the squad to do both...
The current away games (newcastle and anfield) are pretty brutal places to go and hard to win at. Forest you could look at the match stats and see villa were just unlucky. Think a few more away games at mid table teams is required to have full judgement on the away form
perfect analysis - exactly what I'm seeing week after week and refreshing after 25 years of being a season ticket holder
Great video, you're my fav Tifo guy now :D
Great analysis, Sam! Loved it
i personally think so. The likes of Liverpool, City, Arsenal all take 3rd 4th is up for grabs
Perfectly put...our big players lost to injury have cost us and if we had kept them and with UNI doing his magic we would be 2nd and in a very strong 4th placed position... With a good signing in January and 2 I'm the summer then we will be a real danger next season and we are already this season... VTID
I honestly don't think so. Would be nice of them to do it, like Newcastle did last year, but I can't see them having the consistency to get in there come end of season. 6th would be a great achievement.
When have they been inconsistent since emery has taken over?
@@jeriswani6062 I didn't think much of them on the opening day of the season. In general they've been relatively consistent up to this point, I just can't personally see it lasting. Happy to be proven wrong, as I was last season with Newcastle.
excellent analysis, they're lucky to have Emery but you have to give them credit for letting him build his team.
Great watch as a villa fan. But one thing I wanna know is where you get that t shirt from? 😅😅😅
depends on financial backing and being able to retain their players and attract quality players, along with full backing and respect to Emery.
Financial backing, isn't a problem. Villa's owners are some of the wealthiest in the Premier League. Albeit, having to remain within the FFP restraints.
@@temporaryuseraccount0012 therefore, the finical backing has to continue
@@am5790 Villa have to increase their incoming revenue, in order to keep spending on improving the squad without breaking FFP is what I meant. The owners could easily plough a billion dollars into the club. But without enough money being generated, that would break FFP. Of course, they could always take the Man City route of artificially inflated sponsorship deals to circumnavigate the rules. But Villa's owners aren't as corrupt as Man City's and the ex Chelsea owner.
@@temporaryuseraccount0012 financial back has several attributes aside from injecting directly own money, as stated, FFP transgression etc....oh, all billionaires and establishment rich folks are corrupted and criminal....they have influence to subject laws and medias perception and how it's applied to them.....
7:51 where are you getting those xGD numbers? 14.7 - 8.8 = 5.9, 6.0 - 9.9 = -3.3, no? Or is that not how you calculate it?
Great analysis. Home form definitely needed root and branch surgery too many teams enjoyed playing at Villa Park. Now we go there just expecting the Villa to score even if the other team get one we'll go up another gear. Big few weeks for us to see where we're really at in terms of pushing the top 4, Spurs away, Arsenal and City at home.
Hi guys! Great content as always. Question: What app do you use to manipulate tactics on the Wacom tablet?
Thanks.
They have the 3rd best manager IMO
If they keep most of the squad fit and make a few additions in January for depth, they can definitely stay in the top 4 race
maybe 3rd best in cups, fall a few places in league format. This could be the season to change that
2 of the away loses were against Newcastle and Liverpool. Very tough places to go. 5th would be an amazing achievement and i beleive very possible.
I think that's a really fair assessment
2nd highest point haul in 2023 (GD aside) - I guess we really are the (joint) second best team in the league! Unless points are bad, of course...which we all know they are.
Thanks for the video, Sam et al. Please ignore the large swathes of our fanbase that moan when nobody talks about us and also moan when we're talked about in anything less than glowing terms. We've been crap for a long time, so there are a few that are getting carried away with it; and who am I to blame them...
Very good analysis top stuff 👍
Great video Sam. Brilliant analysis
Tifo finally give a positive video about Aston Villa, we must be in the end times.
LFC and Newcastle away are tough games for any team.
Wolves player their game like a flippin cup final.
Fair play to Forest, they played their socks off and cut off the passing lanes well.
Finally another Villa video! Hurray!
Where can I get the tee-shirt you're wearing? Available in USA?
IMO, title challengers are Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal. Top 4 to 8 challengers are Newcastle, Brighton, Spurs, Villa, Chelsea, Man Utd.
West Ham is an honourable mention with an outside chance to finish in top 8.
Funny, I created the exact same categories before the season started.
Wow Man U and Chelsea in there I guess United could keep the fluke on but they've been terrible this season and Chelsea I just don't rate I'd put Brentford ahead of both of them
Hopefully Villa can start to beat the teams above them in the table. They really need to string some good results together over the next 4 games and sharpen their away form. UTV!!
Id just like to qualify for the Europa League next season weather thats by fa cup, conference league or league position. Its crazy how things are right now
If they beat arsenal next week then they could definitely win it
Villa fan: we are doing amazing under Emery and he’s doing with players that just survived relegation a few seasons ago, we need to sort our away form out though, next 4 games will tell how far we’ve come Spurs (a) Bournemouth (a) City (H) Arsenal (H)
Right for a lot of it but when you have 6 away games and half of those are Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool you can forgive them results especially when the side had been injury hit and sandwiched between away games in Europe.
Need that Aston Villa -- Man City analysis from Johh ASAP
Arsenal didn't give him a chance, he is probably better than Arteta but he needed time. But for him even though it ended badly I am sure he learned a lot (as smart people always do from bad situation) and ultimately it made him a better coach.
Lol you clearly werent watching out latter matches with him. We were getting outshot, outscored by teams like Burnley, Crystal Palace and Watford
Yeah I'm truly blind, I shouldn't comment here. I am grateful there are genuinely nice people like you in the world to help me see my character flaws. @@AlphaCenturi16
Even if that first season where he gets praised for doing well, we absolutely capitulated against Leicester,Wolves , and Everton away. Can see him struggling away from home wjth Villa.
I like Emery, he's NOT better than Arteta
I am a Gunners fan, and I felt Unai was treated poorly. He caught the back end of Arsene’s poor signings are the fans were delusional. He is a great manager, a bit of a genius
Only 4 major injuries? As a United fan, I'd be happy with that. lmao That aside, Emery really has shown his class by being able to get this team to perform at a top 6 level, and so quickly, too. Given that he's made it work with what he's got, it'll be interesting to see where they land at the end of the season.
4 nailed down starters is a big deal
They need to improve their away record that going to be key 🔑
Great video
"he has lost his left side", i took that way too literally and thought he had a stroke
Unai is good coach, that Barça comeback overshadow it
Don Unai knows.
can i ask why we are still talking about "top 4" like its a cut off that matters? its practically guaranteed that 5th place will get ucl next season
Williams and Abraham's are available for us in January ....may be another Saunders and Atkinson partnership in the near future VTID
can villa do a leicester this year?
They beat Manchester City and Arsenal Consecutively. I believe they are contenders.
If this thread shows anything, it’s how short sighted fans and pundits are.
Fair point on away form,,,beat spurs and results our way we'll be 3rd for most away wins,, amazing UTV
The top 3 will be Man City Liverpool and Arsenal, finishing in that order, 4th place for Villa is definitely possible, our home form is superb but we must pick up more away points, the next month will see how good we've progressed as a team, Spurs Man City and Arsenal all coming up.
Depends on how many clubs get points deductions as I’m sure all of them have done what Everton have done I’m sure .
I don't think they are unless they sort their away form out. The top teams will punish the high line that they play as Newcastle and Liverpool did.
I know we need to sort out our away form, but Man Utd’s away form last season was abysmal & they still managed top 4. Also top 5 will more than likely get ECL this season.
Im not worried about the away form. Emery will fix it like he did the home form. If Enery fixes the away form like he has fixed the home form Villa will win the league.
Unai is amazing
Stop calling Kamara 'Camera'. He's not an optical instrument!
Man ! What a difference two weeks make 😂
Are we sure the away form isn’t due to playing Liverpool, Newcastle and Forrest away? 3 of the hardest away grounds.
Villa are proving why a club claiming "injury problems" is the reason for poor form is BS. Every team sufferes injuries every year and a good manager is able to reinvent the team to account for the loss of some key players.
Since Emery, has there been a better attacking/all-action/hard-to-define player than John McGinn? Think he’s still criminally underrated somehow!
if they get 2 or 3 injuries they will literally fall apart, especially in the defence
We have already had our injuries - 4 key players out and still coping. Emery will tweak it.
Man United qualified to Champions league with a horrible away form. Our only competition for top 4 are Man city, Arsenal and Liverpool. Teams like Man United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs don't have a manager capable to handle games with the amount of injuries we all have.
