Girona are a team used to bouncing between the top tier and the second tier of Spanish football. But this season, after 9 games, they are second in La Liga.
But who are Girona? How do they play? And do they have any recognisable players?

Thanks for covering La Liga. Since the Athletic partnership, I feel like this channel has been focusing too much on premier league.
with Real and Barca dominating the league it gets boring as heck. Notice the article is not about them
@@SantomPh and lately it's the same feeling about Premier league outside it too, except it's just Manchester City. I'm glad Jude signed for us, it has attracted a lot of attention back to Real Madrid and La Liga now.
Yeah the athletic made tifo much more one dimensional.
@@SantomPhLa Liga has seen more champions in the last 3 years than the PL in the last 6. How is it boring when Barça and Madrid have won at most half of all available titles in the same period while the PL is exciting when City has won 3 in a row, and 5 in 6 (while topping the expected points table in each of the last 7)? Every league is exciting, but people expect the PL to be more exciting and therefore it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Transpose the 20/21 La Liga season into the PL and it's the "best season ever"
@@messicomps344exactly......even series A has been more interesting than epl in the last 4yrs.....they've had 4 different champions and the title race in 2022 was really exciting
Girona and Stuttgart on fire so fire in their respective leagues
@@Athedriveinsince when was stuttgart city group?
By December, we shall know
Shoot you beat me to it.
@@akunwanneprosper7016 i think it’s january where we can at least a little bit sure
Tsygankov is one of the most talented players in Ukraine national team
Aleix Garcia is gonna be a big one. I wonder why his estimated value is still at 10M, since he played a strong last season also.
You can really see his Man City Youth Education coming through. Really technical
His name isn't big enough. If he played at barca or real he'd be 50M
I'm surprised Atletico didn't go in for him
my brother he is 26y.o. him making it big will be a huge surprise
Spain IS the one Who gave man city an identity, no man city to spain. Dont be silly
Girona are wildly overperforming their expected metrics, especially xP like Madrid are. With the context of who they have played so far they are expected to drop down, how far is yet to be seen. But even a top 8 finish will be a massive achievement for Michel.
You have to watch them to say this
I agree here. I saw few games of both Madrid and Girona, and it gives the same feeling. For now it's working but nothing amazing
That's bullshit. They have pkayed both strong and weak teamsalready like Sociedad and Villareal
@@tomgence682you haven't watched Girona play
Love watching Michel's Girona, so exciting to watch, so attacking, pretty much set up in a 3-1-5-1.
Daley Blind is so underrated
overrated, didnt win anythin
@@ducvietphan3300won eredivisie a few times under Ten Hag no?
Also, didn't he win the Bundesliga with Bayern?
He won eridivise, Dutch cup, fa cup, league cup, europa league and a bundesliga mate. That’s more than most
@@merijn4440 win the bundesliga with bayern 😂😂🤣🤣 He contributed jackshit just happend to be in the team kiddo
@@ducvietphan3300 I thought he didn't win anything?
Hats of to Aleix Garcia. Play revolves around him and he is positonally flexible he can drop from his holding position into the first line and initiate attacks.
His change of position triggers a series of posironally changes. Aleix ( holding to CB) Blind (LCB to LAM) Herrera or Ivan Martin ( 8 to holding) - Miguel (LAM - to 10).
Reference to this rotation can be found in the game against Almeria
And Girona emphasizes these concepts :pinning opp fullbacks, diagonal runs from one half-space to the other. Pass back and long diagonal pass to opposite wing. Midfield trio positioned in a diagonal line.
I watch all of their matches and I will say that (just my personal opinion) Tsygankov is the key player there, not Savio
How can one talk about the most surprising team this season WHILE forgetting Stuttgart?
They covered them in the podcast
@@DavidLimofLimReportwhich episode?
Great video John!! Love your analysis 👏
Nobody thought West Ham, who qualified for Europe two years ago and who won a European trophy last season, would be challenging for Europe this season?
Maybe you could do the most surprising national team Albania right now going from slow defensive no pass team to building from the back and and wonder goals every match now
They been odly good especially asani with some great goals
Sylvinho and Zabaleta have done a great jobe so far.
I don't think they can continue playing that football against top sides
@@geralbaliaj4979I think they can, once they qualify for the Euros they've got nothing to lose, will be the suprise package of the tournament
@@DT-ip4dbyou do realise the last time a team that tried to do that against top team (eg norwich) they get battered 8-0
The most surprising thing is that Euro cup winning West Ham team was so woefully underestimated by the supposed experts.
because being good in Europe doesn't always correlate with good league performance... last year they were poor.
My Tifo uptake has been a lot lower without the podcast as it was previously... While I hope all the guys are happy with their current setups, without that comedic aspect, I do find Tifo a lot more bland, in a space where you just have soooo many options.
Yep
I'd love them to push on until January atleast, that would secure them a europa spot by may.
May i ask what touch board you are using?! that is something i would definitely love to buy to bring to my channel.
Fantastic video!
Just some missed points, last season ivan martin and santi bueno were key as soon as they recovered from injuries, also aleix garcia and david lopez were key but injuries made them play less. We play against Sevilla where we won 0-2, also a Champions League team since they've won the Europa League. Great analysis, much more deep than some reporters from Spain! Loved to watch!f
I’ve been waiting for an in-depth video on Girona!
Been waiting for someone to do a video on Girona THANK YOU!!!
This was a fantastic sensible transfer episode for Tottenham under Ange. Savio and A.Garcia would be great signings by the sounds of it. More of the player profile analysis for well-performing clubs would be good
Yup. Because tactically it sounds like Ange ball in some sense. 😄👍🏻
I think that Savinho will join City.
As for Garcia, he probably isn't good enough for Tottenham except maybe as a backup.
Happy to hear Gazzaniga is doing well.
gazzaniga please...
The way this guy moves his hips when he talks will not stay unnoticed by Pique. On a serious note - people often leave Tsyhankiv out of the conversation, and he is the key player that brought fresh air to Girona’s game
These guys have given me so many fantasy points
Could really do with a ‘two way dribbler’ at the Toon as the low bloc a lot of teams employ means the attack needs a one on one against full backs Only not as headless chicken like ASM could often be.
Very interesting one❤
LOVE THE HOODIE JON
Would like to see a video about OGC Nice as well, they beat Monaco & PSG on their own home and still unbeaten this season
When I saw the thumbnail with red and white kits, I thought you were going to talk about Stuttgart first.
This is exactly how I want Man Utd to be playing with a team of AWB, Schlotterbeck, Lisandro, Alfie Doughty or Raum, Mainoo, Jobe Bellingham or Eze, Mathias Jensen or Julian Brandt, T. Kubo or J. Bakayoko, Jack Clarke or Mitoma, and Hojlund or Joao Pedro. Imo ETH can do it -- here noting a reservation re his multiple references to 'directness' this season -- but Ineos might want to seriously (and probly will) look at De Zerbi and Postecoglu.
Impressive team 👏🏽
Ipswich are pretty surprising, eh? Eh??
Fancy seeing you here?
My point exactly!
My favourite team is finally doing well
It’s like the City Group influence is all over that team this season. Practically half the lineup
The Toronto Raptors hoodie …. anybody who follows the NBA will know this is such a clever choice for this particular video 👏
Why so? I don’t follow NBA haha
@@yan.weather Girona's chairman famously doesn't believe that dinosaurs existed. Raptors are a type of dinosaur. Just ask Dennis in Jurassic Park
Got to be St Mirren. Up until last weekend, we hadn't lost in the league yet this season.
Girona is owned by the city group nothing suprising here
So what😂 oh wow!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They are spending less on transfers than Real Madrid on Bellingham's salary.
So? Look at their players
The 116 violations group
I hope the City Group starts spending on Mumbai City FC. This is our last AFC Champions League campaign, and we're getting battered 😢
Whoever got all these signings needs a raise.
Love the Raptors sweater
this is not intended as criticism, I was really enjoying listening whilst wearing my headphones, but the levels were going so up and down it was giving me a headache and I gave up after 5 minutes. Not sure if its the presenters inclination for going up and down with the tone or something more rudimentary. The edit spoiled excellent content.
When I saw the notification I knew it was girona
Love the raptors sweatshirt
How about Ipswich?
I think those ones are the surprise team in England at least.
Make a video about VfB Stuttgart
almost like Tifo forgot Girona (and Troyes) are arms of City Football Group
Masterclass
I'll say it since no one else is....great Raptors hoodie
Stuttgard is possibly more surprising
going by the thumbnail, I'm hoping it's going to be stoke city!
Can you make tactic analysis olumpiakos manager Diego martinez
honestly see them as strong title contenders
Yes the Toronto Raptors getting some love on tifo irl!!
I feel Tifo is really copying the ‘Football Purist’ channel on content. They did the same with Brazil’s Fernando Diniz, which the Football Purist channel posted ages ago.
That one is the best football channel on YT, and they provide the link to their research in the description too.
There is only so many topics they can cover, what would you rather see, articles on what hairstyles players have, and what cars they drive?
Tifo did a podcast on Diniz almost a year ago? The guy they interviewed (Jamie Hamilton) is likely the one who inspired The Purist and other English language creators to talk more about Diniz. It's very normal that content creators covering major leagues and tactical trends will have some degree of overlap, there are only so many interesting teams and tactical topics that also drive traffic.
Do you think they’re just going to pop a video out about Di Stefano’s current tactics as a striker at the ripe old age of dead?
Everyone is saying how Romeu is trash at Barca and his defensive vulnerability is keep getting exposed but knowing Michel if Barca does end up selling him back to Girona he's gonna start balling under him 😂
West Ham doing better than everyone said they would is probably the only thing I was right about this season.
Think Savio might be in the City Squad next year
It won't
Fun fact: Girona are owned by City football group and Pep Guardiola's brother
big jon
TsYgankov instead of Tsgankov. I understand clearly that you don't care but please pay respect to correct spelling.
Why is there Míchel's email address on his card 😂
savio is just like doku
"this tactical flexibility has the impact of making it feel like Girona have an extra player in the attack and in defense" when in fact the diagram has 10 girona players
But it felt like more, right?!
Well, well, well, you never can tell
Mam City has the best academy Girona is proof.
People say Pep can't do it with a small team.... Girona is proof of Pep's training schedule and regiment is what makes team great.
City Group is greatest proven football organisation in 160 years.
Do ipswich town
Man City's owners own 44% of the Club and Pep Guardiolas brother owns the other half.
wait a second... you didn't expect westham to fight for europe? aren't they current conference league champions? and the season before that they had a very long EL run? don't let last season's PL table fool you, they are a very good team
I agree. They sold Rice and now they have a better depth in midfield with Alvarez and Ward prowse
@@tomgence682 they simply made some great business decisions. lost their best players but got 2 great players that improve their team. I've been wanting JWP at chelsea for years but unfortunately nobody listens to me^^
@@frankunodostres473 Sometimes football seems strange. When you see a player performing during that many years and no one is picking him!
I like to see him in a team like west ham trying to get into Europe instead of seeing him going to Man City as a substitute like Kalvin Phillips did
I feel like I watched a lecture. He is professorial. I couldn't help watching his hands though. He seemed to be either playing an invisible piano or just fidgeting. Haha. Interesting video though. Good job. :)
The last thing you want to see as a defender is Daley Blind running in behind 🐢
good to see man city's b team do well.
I was expecting Leverkusen honestly
Nice to come back here after Girona qualified for Champions League
Currently, first play
CFG doing CFG magic
1:31 Martinez is the first choice. he played 33 matches last season and 32 matches as starter and yet you still saying he mostly sitting on the bench 🤨
It took you guys 75 years to finally cover this team cause of the atletic prem bias, old school tifo would’ve been on that, but at least they’re getting prop now
Ooh, my little pretty one, pretty one
You should check out Garcia Pimienta's Las Palmas
They haven't changed their "Protagonist" playstyle from the 2nd division
Come on its only the start of the season.
Come on Gironistes!!!
Most your videos are about tactics but the speaker has a lot of screen time than the board. Why not show the board more?
Girona top of the table now 🤣🤣
well now girona is leader alone
0:10 United doing this bad shouldn't be a surprise. Maybe the incredible amount of injuries, but not the outcome besides it.
I don't know. They finished 4th last season (without a great striker and now they bought players like Amrabat, Mount, Hojlund) and there was a sort of hype around Ten Hag last season.
This saying, I haven't seen as much as united's games to say if they had good regularity and a good game plan but it was working. I'm curious to know what sign you saw to expect united to do that bad!
Mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-mu-my girona
I know they are the Spanish City, but it will be funny to see Madrid and Barcelona bite some dust.
I mean Peterborough United would be doing well with Saudi funding..
We have seen this movie many times. And we would see them fighting for Relegation in next season.
Ooh, my little pretty one, pretty one, when you gonna give me some time, Girona?
Míchel is pronounced almost like Mitchell.
Still long way to go not even half the season I think it's all about the manager when u have a good manager no matter where r u playing in
Every time he said "coming inside" 👀🥵
Pep Guardiola replacement at city
Hi
a city group team doing well you hate to see it
They are currently in 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 points ahead of R. Madrid witha the best attck of La Liga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they look really bad against Madrid; I expect them to lose points in the matches against teams in the upper half of the table;
also, almost all big teams in La Liga have terrible season
2:50 - 3:05 mute the video and play at 1.5x. He has good moves😅
Is not "Michelle" is "Mee-chel".
A month later Girona is top of the league.
