Rahul Dravid on Scoring Centuries | The Long Game | CRED

  • Mr Dependable. The Wall. Shielding batters from the new ball. Putting bowlers on the back foot with his own back foot shots. Rahul Dravid wouldn't leave the pitch without scoring a century. Or at least trying. Watch him reveal lessons and insights from his game and the one thing he finds most stressful.
The Long Game is a series featuring six renowned cricketers and coaches who share their journey and the wisdom they gained, both on and off the pitch over the years. Take some inspiration from their stories, perhaps a lesson or two from their life.

I had the opportunity to meet him 2 weeks ago in Bengaluru. He was present as the event was about felicitating our Paralympians who made India proud in Tokyo. No paparazzi, No suit, No tie, No showoff. Just Mr Dravid wearing a formal shirt (with sleeves folded ) and jeans. Apparently I heard he purposely wanted to keep the ceremony private so that all the attention and talk should be towards the paralympic athletes and not at him. If you don't know he is also one of the main people behind GoSports Foundation, a non profit venture based out of Bengaluru that supports athletes, who had organized the event. Towards the end of the felicitation my friend asked him "Sir one photo". Initially he said "Can I eat something first and then take". But then I don't know what happened. He came and said "Okay, let's go" and i had my fan moment with a pic with him. Truly a remarkable athlete , humble person, a legend of the game.

    Lessons from Rahul Dravid
    1. Keep your feet firmly on the ground
    2. Work hard, keep believing in your dreams, dreams do come true
    3. Stay focused right till the end and never get complacent
    4. You can never be sure how your opportunity is going to come or when your chance will come, but when it does, hopefully you are prepared and ready and that's the only thing in your control
    5. Find ways to contribute to the team, find ways to do things that are probably not expected of you or that's not your main skill. and if that makes the team better and helps you perform you as a group, as a team, then it's a great sacrifice to make and gives you a lot of satisfaction
    6. When you are surrounded by great players, it wants you sort of challenge yourself and you want to compete with them and earn your respect, so it really inspires your to try and do your best
    7. With young people today, you have to create a collaborative environment in which you have to recognize that they have incredible knowledge and experience
    8. In life you are going to have a lot of ups and downs. It is important to keep going foward and learn from those experiences. You cant always control the results, but you can control your preparation

Being a 90's kid, grew up idolising Sachin. But now as an adult when I look at the bigger picture considering every facet both inside and outside cricket, cant help but feel how under rated an idol Dravid was and still is. Rahul sir
    I still remember
After 2011 world cup, when india was on England tour, how drastically team struggled to score and any batsmen other than you even Can't reach near hundred
And you are the only batsman from indian side who scored 3 hundreds in whole series and you also got special player of the series for that
And in 2012 also, when you struggled in Australia, you realised that now it is time for new generations for taking up and you retired after that
May be many cricketers come and go but the image, aura and legacy you create in cricket world, we can't never witnessed it again
Thank you sir for your contribution in cricket world
Cricket World always remember you as a real gentleman ❤❤❤
