Too much snow for the Tundra 600 Ace LT

  • Last week, we had even more snow, approx 1m (3,5 feet) of pure powder in addition to what we had. A heaven for Summit 850 riders, but close to hell for the Tundra. The lakes had 15-20 cm of water on the ice below the snow. The 38mm track (1,5") together with 60 bhp in the 600 Ace on the Tundra wasn't enough to make it through the deep snow and slush and the Tundra struggled for the first time.
    One of the guys brought a BRP Lynx 49 Ranger 600 E Tec (161"), even that machine had a tough time in the snow.
    This is a short film, I had battery problems and missed the best moments in the snow.

    I was riding out on some slushy crap in my 2020ace LT and found that the ski skins really helped keep the front end up and out of the shit.

    at 3:56 to get unstuck you need to tip the sled 45 degrees and use the reverse, the reverse on those sleds are amazing. i have that exact sled i love it in powder

    • @65northphoto
      @65northphoto  2 года назад

      Yeah, last winter was extreme. We've never had this amounts of snow in January as long as I can remember. About 15 cm now (1/2 foot) and really cold. You really need to get used to ride in conditions like these. If You haven't, you'll be stuck... :)

    That’s some serious snow! All us tundra owners should be so privileged to have that powder to test our riding ability and just have some fun in. Slush tho isn’t fun...

    • @65northphoto
      @65northphoto  3 года назад

      Agree! Slush isn’t that fun, but it is doable without too much problems. It’s just easier to cope with if You have more bhp in the engine. I haven’t been riding in such conditions before, and I’ve been riding for 20 years. One week after the video was shot, the snow was much harder and it was’nt any problems at all. I been told it was like heaven. :)

      @@65northphoto Yes, that ACE motor ... not sure, but might be heavier and not have the bandwidth of horse power for slush? I've got the 550F which does fine in slush, but without the cooling fins in the tunnel the ice builds up and can be a pain to get out unless you take it into heated space to thaw.

    • @65northphoto
      @65northphoto  3 года назад

      It lacks horsepower in conditions like these. The problem I had was that I couldn’t keep the speed in the slush. This never happens with my other sled, 600 R Etec.

    Tundran med 600 ACE är en drömmaskin. Har du hunnit testa nya med G4-chassit och EFI motorn?

    • @65northphoto
      @65northphoto  3 года назад +1

      Nej, jag har inte testat den än. Men den verkar förbättra Tundran på rätt områden, bättre sittställning och aningen mer effekt. På gott och ont tillför den tvåtaktsdoft också :) Det jag gillar med 600 ACE är möjligheten den ger att verkligen smyga fram i terrängen med sitt silkeslena variatortillslag.

    • @andreasljungquist6762
      @andreasljungquist6762 3 года назад +1

      @@65northphoto jag tror det nya chassit gör susen men precis som du säger så är en 600 ACE otroligt fin på många sätt.
      Funderar över en sådan framöver men jag är lite fundersam på om det går att ha den som familjeskoter, för kälke och en extradyna eller om den blir för rank för mindre utflykter?

    • @65northphoto
      @65northphoto  3 года назад

      Jag har den som en lätt arbetsmaskin just för att kunna smyga fram i skogen, men den funkar också som familjemaskin för kortare utflykter. På min är en dubbeldyna standard och den drar utan problem kälkar och pulkor med allt från familj till timmer. Den smala spårvidden gör att en ovan förare kan uppleva den som vinglig och kör man mest på led är framvagnen ingen höjdare, då är det nog bättre att köpa en annan maskin med samma motor.

      Troligen hade det gått bättre med den. Nu var det extremt mycket snö, har på >20 år aldrig kört i så lös pudersnö. Ranger 49 hade problem, Xterrain 3900 med 64:s matta hade problem, men inte lika uppenbara som Tundran. Vad som hände var att det inte gick att smyga fram, den började spinna i pudret och att gasa hjälpte inte då motorn är för svag för att få bra snurr på mattan.
