Make a Box Corner Cushion - The 30 Minute Cushion

  • Опубликовано: 16 май 2024
  • This is the simplest & fastest method for sewing a cushion cover. In fact typical sized cushions can be completed in about 30 minutes each. The Box Corner Cushion utilizes one panel of fabric to make an entire cushion (unless it is a rather large cushion). No boxing, no zipper plaque, no top or bottom plates just one panel of fabric. This 30 minute cushion will include a zippered opening on the back side to accommodate the insertion of the cushion's foam. It is also a flippable cushion, meaning both sides can be used as the decorative side.
Use the Sailrite Fabric Calculator to get instant cut measurements for your size cushion so you can quickly produce a cushion without doing complicated math. Sailrite's Fabric Calculator is designed to produce a cushion cover that is tight fitting over the foam (slightly smaller than the foam) for a simply gorgeous cushion.

You know...I've been watching you videos for a very long time. I just wanted to say Thank You for sharing all of your knowledge with us. I know it's your business and it's how you make money, but you do it with class, pride, you are never condescending, rude or cocky. You are stright forward, you don't talk unnecessarily about irrelevant things, and the way you explaine information makes it easy to comprehend. Your voice is perfect for videos. I agree! It'll take 30 minutes if you have everything measured and already cut, a huge table with your heavy-duty machine, have done it before, and are a pro! A good video otherwise.

  • @jmrgunners

It does take a while to lay out, measure and cut, but the actual sewing is super fast and easy. And the results are great. For those that don’t want to spend a lot of money on a hot knife and tempered glass (because I’m only doing this once) a $15 wood burning tool from Home Depot and an old cookie sheet work really well.

This is by-far the best method I've seen, using the tape is definitely helpful since I was using Sailrite's vinyl fabric. I did use a regular zipper made for cushions, which was still easy to do. If you make them frequently then you could probably do it in 30 min, but count on at least an hour for 1 cushion, the second one will go faster. Thank you Sailrite!

Thanks so much for the detailed tutorial. I must be a slow learner, because I had to watch parts of it numerous times. It took me 3 days to make the first 30 minute cushion, but the second will go much faster! The fabric calculator was a godsend. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My cushion may have been the smallest ever calculated (a mattress for a doll bed). The finished products won't win a prize, but the grandgirls won't mind.

A wonderful tutorial! Thx!! I have done a lot of sewing, over many years--mainly clothing. But I always love to find a new and better way to do something: your way of doing the box corners, with the corner cut-outs and the zipper in the middle of the sides, is clever and so much more fun to sew than what I've done previously (a top and bottom piece, with a long strip to sew for the sides, with tricky maneuvering around the corners). (NB: You can also make the cushion with a fabric with a one-way directional pattern (i.e., a pattern that has one way that looks right (e.g., dogs all standing upright) and the other way looks upside down (all the dogs with their feet in the air!); simply sew 2 pieces together with the seam at the bottom of each design (at the dogs' feet), and then cut out the cushion with that seam at the center, parallel to the edge for the zipper. This may be too confusing if you're not an experienced sewer!)

This video/technique is awesome! I used the technique to make a large carrying bag for a Kuranda dog bed (added handles). I had to figure out the zipper length that would accommodate the bed, but after that, I used the calculator and followed the instructions. My problem is I am not a very "precise" person, but with this technique, I highly recommend some precision with measuring and notching out the corners. For my first time (cutting fabric to finished product), it took about three hours, but with practice, the time should improve. I will definitely use this technique for covering cushions in the future. The basting tape is my new best friend. THANK YOU SAILRITE!

I've put off this project for 2.5 years because of my fear of zippers. The instruction was clear and concise and the use of new materials and methods awe-inspiring, Thanks so much much! My first cushion took a day-and-a-half and I made an error when I folded my fabric to fit my work area (floor), but my second attempt took much less time and looks beautiful. I have more than enough confidence to finish the other 5 cushions for my two window seats. Wonderful!

Looked up how to make a cushion on RUclips and found your cushion in 30 minutes and I was sold. Thank you for having the links in the description of the video as well!

Very clear, informative tutorial. I realize that making something the first time is a little more time consuming, I almost always have a needle break, thread break... But I love that you go over foam types, the calculator and especially that you don't make me watch you sew something twice! Great job, now off to make my cushion.

This is the absolute video for making the cushion a friend and I made 2 yesterday for a bench on one end the small one that had to connect to the cushion where a 2-inch pipe went through the bench, we had a time figuring out how to do the cutout but finally got it to work. I love love the fabric calculator we would not have been able to figure it out without that YOU guys thank again. Yes, more than likely we could do another one in 30 minutes next time!!!

GREAT VIDEO! When pushing the corners out I use a chopstick. It really helps get those corners well and save on fingers if your fabric is sturdy.

Never have used a sewing machine until 2 days ago on a scrap peice and just finished my first cushion. This is such a good video! I have 1 of 6 cushion complete. Having to figure out some things with sewing 2 panels together and following this process was a bit tricky but hopefully I did it all correct!
How many are watching this because they are building a van?

After watching this video, my hubby and I used my new sewing machine, and made an eight-foot long cushion for a window seat in our son's new house. We used bright red Sunbrella fabric, and it turned out wonderful!

At the 2021 Annapolis Sailboat show people were wowed by amazing million dollar yachts but also by the Sailrite booth! I'm sure some part of me that bought that big boat did it as an excuse to buy the new Sailrite machine. Love your videos.
