    Setting up routes and using waypoints - a reminder of the various ways this can be done and then editing routes. That would be good thanks👍🏻

    It would me nice to have the option to be able to display the target information of a few of the closest vessels in fixed (but configurable) boxes in the radar screen, rather than always having to switch to the separate target list. I don’t think this is currently possible is it?

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Ian. We don't have a dedicated target box, but it is possible to keep open the target information for specific AIS or MARPA targets. Touch on a target and then turn on the switch for Target Info. A small box containing its information will travel along with the target. It is reduced in size, and semi-transparent so as not to obscure other information on the screen.

    Tell me something as someone who knows very little about boats, there are autopilot systems, radar systems, sonar systems, camera systems etc available. Let's say you're solo boating you turn on AP, then go to say cook something, will the AP automatically(without manual intervention) change course, slow down/speed up to avoid collisions? If not why not? It's 2021 and given the information available to the AP system it wouldn't be really a difficult thing to achieve in software.

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      Hi Gary. While what you are proposing is certainly possible, the autopilots available today to the general market do not do that yet. Autonomous navigation is in-development currently for workboats and other applications. I'm certain over time the technology will come down in price and become more common, much like is happening in automotive. This company is a leader in that space if you want to see what is happening now: sea-machines.com/

    Excellent webinar as always. I’m still confused on how to run the new lighthouse charts alongside navionics. I have a navionics chip in my axiom+ 12 right now, how would I “add” new lighthouse charts while keeping the navionics? There is only one card slot. Thanks!

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      Hi Jason. In your case you could add a card reader accessory to your Axiom unit to give it a second card slot. One card would load in the rear, and the 2nd card would be plugged into the card reader, connected to the USB port on the rear. Part number R80585 is our RCR-1 card reader accessory that will give you an additional microSD card slot.
      We also offer part number R80440, which is a full-size SD card slot plus a USB connector that you can use to plug in your phone or other devices for charging.

    2 Part Question.
    In bird mode or offshore fishing.
    Is it better to have more color gain?
    2nd, will RayConnect replace RayView & RayRemote as they are currently not working.

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      The color palettes on our radars are 256-colors. Typically the wide-range of signals are distributed evenly across the color palette, with only the hardest returns using the primary color (typically red.) When you increase the color gain you are assigning more signal levels to the red color, and the rest are distributed across the remaining colors of the palette. Eventually, at full color gain, pretty much everything is assigned to red, with just a handful of the weakest returns remaining.
      In Bird Mode, this would tend to make the birds brighter, as they are weak targets naturally, though if you are in an evironment with lots of other targets present too (land, other boats, navaids, etc.) it might be difficult to discern the birds from other objects if they are all the same color. I would probably save any large-scale adjustment of color gain in bird mode for times when you are mostly offshore, or are scanning in the direction of offshore.
      RayConnect is planned to be the replacement for RayView and RayRemote, though those apps should still work for you. RayConnect is having some work done to it and will appear shortly with some additional capabilities too.

    How do you connect mouse to Axiom XL? Just pair bluetooth or must it be paired along with an external keypad?

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  2 года назад

      Hello Harley. You can connect a mouse either via Bluetooth, or plugged directly into the USB connector on the back of Axiom XL.
      If you have a Bluetooth mouse you will need to pair it. On your Axion's homescreen touch the clock on the upper right and then select Bluetooth Settings on the menu that pops up. Turn on the Bluetooth transceiver if it is not already on, and a list of nearby devices will populate automatically. Press the pairing button on your mouse, and select it from the list on Axiom when it appears. You can also connect a keyboard this way if you'd like.
      Axiom XL has a standard USB port on its rear, labeled as Touch Support In. If you are not utilizing the touchscreen pass-through, you could also plug a wired or wireless mouse/keyboard/combo in here.

    Hi Jim... I own an Axiom MFD 7 inch. In order to use both Navionics and Lighthouse charts would I have to have both cards inserted? I only have one micro sd card slot on my Axiom.
    Thanks

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      Hi Kevin. Yes you will need to have both cards plugged in to access them simultaneously. We do offer a card reader accessory called the RCR-1 that plugs into the mini USB accessory port on the back of your Axiom. The part number is A80585. This will give you a second card slot. A80440 will also work. That card reader has a SD card slot plus a USB port for charging devices.
      We do have plans to allow you to store LightHouse charts internally on your Axiom in the near future. Keep in mind though that Axioms have either 8 or 16 GB of internal storage (depending on whether its an original or + model) so keeping the chart internally will use up a fair amount of that space.

    When tracking a target, does the target receive any type of notification that it's being tracked? I am having the Quanutm2 Doppler unit installed on the 6th of July. Very anxious for this new addition to our vessel.

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      Hello Jim. No....when you place a track on another target with your radar it happen entirely within your own electronics. There is no indication on the other side that they are being tracked. Your radar can only track them while they are in radar range.

      Hi Mark. The entire boating industry is seeing sudden huge demand this season. Boats, motors, electronics and everything else needed to get on the water are in short supply as a result. We are building and shipping products as quickly as possible. Your dealer should have the most up-to-date ETA on your particular order.

    Will Lighthouse charts be collecting depth data from users to improve accuracy?

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      We do hope to add that in the near future. Right now you'll find a feature on your Raymarine system called RealBathy that allows the system to log depths and create custom bathymetric charts. For the moment, that data is stored on your own SD card. Watch for some future updates that will allow you to share those recordings (if you want to) and combine them together with recordings from other boaters.
      You'll find the RealBathy settings in your Chart app main menu. Open the chart, touch Menu....then select the Depths tab. Scroll down just a bit and you'll see options to turn on RealBathy recording, where to store it, and other options.

    True and relative motion make sense for velocity. You can think of true like wakes you could draw on the map, while relative vectors would show our boat velocity as zero. (We're not moving relative to ourself) To me, relavite velocities make sense on radar plots, true velocities for chart displays. Relative velocity vectors will be radial on intercept course. Maybe all that makes it easier for you to talk about the Reference Mode here. On the "View and Motion" settings page there's another True/Relative choice, for chart motion, and that one's got me really confused. Can you contrast chart motion to target motion in this regard? In "True" mode the boat position selector grays out and orientation allows N or CRS but not Hdg... Huh? If true means relative to earth, then the chart motion is ZERO so there shouldn't BE any true chart motion. As you can see, I'm quite discombobulated. Will try this out on the water soon.

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  2 года назад +1

      Hi Mark. True and relative motion can be difficult understand. On the chartplotter, when it is in true motion mode, the chart becomes stationary and your boat icon moves across the chart at your actual course and speed. As it approaches the edge of the screen, the entire chart resets itself, and the boat icon is placed about 3/4 of the diameter of the screen in the direction opposite your heading to allow maximum travel of the icon.

    • @MarkKrebs
      @MarkKrebs 2 года назад

      @@RaymarineInc Thanks for this reply. I get it now (& also found the similar reference in the manual.) Partly I was thrown by using "true" and "relative" in two different contexts: velocity vectors (where it makes sense) and "chart motion" where perhaps a different naming technique could've helped. Maybe "fixed chart" and "fixed boat" position modes. ...but that's just brainstorming. I appreciate your time to respond to all the questions.

    Are there any benefits to lighthouse charts over Navionics?

    • @RaymarineInc
      @RaymarineInc  3 года назад

      Hi KMT. LightHouse charts have a few new capabilities you won't find elsewhere. They support 4 color palettes (day, bright, night and dark) so they look great no matter what your lighting conditions are. They also offer 2 viewing modes; a data-rich recreational boating format, and also a super-clear, no-frills government mode. LightHouse charts also have fully adjustable sizing for chart icons and symbols. LightHouse Charts also offer superior points of interest and shore-side detail using information from Mapbox, Marinas.com and Reed's Nautical Almanac (in Europe.)
      Additionally, you'll see that LightHouse charts have a fresh, modern appearance that is easy to read and highly accurate. We'll have a full rundown of LightHouse charts in our next episode.
