Thank you for this. I’m 90, in tolerably good shape but looking after a less robust husband, the news about fighting being resumed in the East had deeply saddened us, and we were both coming down with some sort of flu. Not a cheerful household……. Then I watched this video of yours and something about your determination not to give in, and your whole-hearted enjoyment of the natural splendour of the world around you acted as a tonic, made me feel that life was worth struggling on with after all. So many thanks to you, and keep going as long as you can - for many of us you’re a source of enjoyment in life.
My best wishes to you and your husband. I hope youre both feeling better now, and will be able to enjoy the outdoors again soon. Merry Christmas from Denmark 🇩🇰
May the Lord bless you and if not we do. 😊😊😊
I'm not into camping but love watching your videos and seeing what stuff helps you survive out there in the wild as much as I like seeing the places you visit. You come across as a decent honest guy and you have my respect. What I don't get is the hassle you receive from a small number of people who object to you doing videos of one type or another. They don't own you and are free to avoid anything they don't like. Those experienced campers who know their stuff, have their chosen kit and may disagree with you need not watch you reviewing anything. They can avoid that content. What's wrong with just doing that? Why does anyone need to get all worked up about your view that one bit of kit is better or worse than another or upset that you do too many product reviews? It's all a bit puerile. You can't please everyone. Do what you enjoy and what keeps you healthy. I'll keep watching and enjoying your content. In the unlikely event that I come across something which isn't of interest, I'll fast forward or just click on the stop button then find another video. Simples :)
Don’t panic about doing gear reviews. It’s not always convenient to go out constantly camping. People need to understand that. As well as camping, I love buying new stuff and it’s people like yourself that show us what’s out there
I would say don't panic about it but definitely don't stop. This community that's here for you Paul - listens to your advice. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Please keep doing gear reviews it helps us decide on what gear to buy and not to buy.
Nice vid. Views. A nice perch and 🥃 I loved it on Sheffield pike. Those views are amazing well worth the hike. I’m the same descending hills. I used to skip down but now it’s more of a shuffle 😂😂 don’t you dare say it’s an age thing. 🥊 nice tent too. Get yourself some 10mm poles. 😂 😂😂. A real throwback video this to proper Wildcamping. I like it 👌 👍
The new Paul is released.you look like you are really enjoying your self.great video
Best thing you said in your last video mate is 'I'm just going to go camping and enjoy it' and it showed even more so than usual here mate. Fantastic. Amazing views as well. Another walk added to my ever growing list lol. Take care out there.
Another new Hilly 😂 ! Great video Paul ! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 !
Love the video Paul. If you're not "reviewing" gear, might be worth mentioning what you are currently using...I trekked across the rockies for 3 weeks a few years ago. Made our own boil in the bags, by emptying tinned goods / meals into a ziploc bag. Squeeze out the air, fold the bag and then double bag it in another bag. To heat we made foil sheaths to protect the plastic bags from the side of the pot. Cheap, easy to do and worked well. Also meant keeping waste to a minimum as it was a case of "pack it in, pack it out".
I like the new direction. Gear is cool, and no harm in saying what's worked for you, but I think it's a pity when it becomes the focus. Really liked how you spotlighted your surroundings in this vid
PAUL! MORE OF THIS PLEASE 🙏🏻
You’re content has always been perfect and I simply love seeing your RUclips journey transition and unfold. Like a wise person has already mentioned in the comments, us loyal subbers develop an emotional attachment to your channel and enjoy these particular experiences that you share with us because we know that it’s this (the mountains and views being the stars of the show) that brought you here in the first place and that lust keeps you heading out for the next one. REYT GOOD, ATB, Sarah
YOU PROMISED US to make the landscape the star of the video ....and you did well done!
Doesn't look like it could get any better! I enjoy camping in the cold except when it is wet, so this looked perfect! The quilt looks great too and matches my down jacket!
I believe that not many people will actively search for a video specifically about solo camping on a frosty mountain. Existing subscribers might watch it, but new viewers are more likely to discover Paul’s channel while searching for gear-related content. Personally, I enjoy watching videos that combine gear reviews with beautiful mountain views. The routine of being in the mountains is appealing to me. As I get to know a RUclipsr’s personality, I develop an emotional attachment and become interested in hearing their stories. It’s similar to how we get hooked on TV shows-initially, we might not be very interested, but after a few episodes, we want to watch more. Considering that the previous format of mixing gear reviews and camping videos worked well, there may be no need to change it.
I enjoyed reading this comment as much as I enjoyed watching Paul’s video. When I’m recording my adventures there has to be an element of self love and enjoyment for wild camping and not just doing it for views. I can smell those channels a mile off and it gives me the ick 😂 I have always loved Paul’s channel and feel like I’ve been in the journey with him as a top fan and fellow Sheffileder ❤
@@SoloSarahBX l completely agree with your perspective. When I’m researching specific gear, I prefer watching straightforward product review videos. However, in the case of Paul’s channel, I subscribed after watching a combination of his product reviews and wild camping experiences. While the wild camping content alone is fine to me, I believe Paul should diversify to attract a broader audience. It’s inevitable that some negative comments will arise due to the channel’s size, but the majority of subscribers joined when there was a mix of reviews and outdoor adventures. Being innovative is crucial, but monitoring the channel’s progress and adapting when necessary is essential. Ultimately, it’s Paul’s business, and a commercial approach is vital.
@@andreya6577 yes there is one huge difference between my adventures and Mr Messner’s. His pays the bills and mine is my hobby. There’s no pressure or responsibility to conform like the responsibility I uphold in my day job 😊
I think you enjoyed that one Paul 👍🏴
For winter camps/treks I now use a thin dextrous pair of gloves that breath well but keep the wind chill off and then have a warmer pair of gloves that fit over the top for when you're sitting around/don't need to use your hands (Rab VR Gloves are the best "liners" in my opinion, and you can do pretty much anything in them including using your phone, then I wear a warmer glove like the Montane prisms or a hard shell over the top when I need the extra warmth. This works really well for me in winter, I started doing it while trekking in Sweden when it was about -30 degrees C (you have to at that temperature as you can't touch anything with bare hands then) but now I do it for all my winter camps. Stunning video - thanks!
Hi Paul. Longtime viewer to your excellent channel. I've seen the several transitions your channel has made over the years. This newest format is more like your original camping roots and I like it. Back in the day 😂 your videos were almost travel logs from hiking/camping viewpoints. They were "new and different" from the more basic backpacker's travel videos. Now returning to the your hiking/camping roots it feels more like you literally have taken us there with you again. Thank you 😊 and much continued success! BE WELL AND STAY SAFE 🙏 ❤ 💙 my RUclips friend.
Great to have you enjoying the camp. Don't miss the equipment discussion at all.
What a beautiful place in the world. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Paul, an interesting video, certainly different coming from you, personally I don’t need to know what gear to use , as an experienced camper , I’ve ticked all those boxes. So im looking forward to hearing about your experiences about places to visit , with all the ups and downs of your adventure. I too was out there in sub zero camping in Suffolk this weekend. Looking forward to the next one. Regards Gary
Really enjoyed that , to me , this sort of video is you back at your best ...
You can use one of those reusable hand warmers to warm up your gas canister if it’s really cold.
£8.50 for 24hr parking - what a ripoff! beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing. Hei, can't believe, that's my UNNA! at least somebody is using it...happy for you to get out there
Just got into wild camping last year, and i watch yours and others. But i like to see and hear what gear you taking like sleep systems .. cooking equipment etc you dont have to promote anything just say.... this is what i take and do. Thats almost what everyone wants 👍
Wow Paul great vlog. Good to see you eating better as well. You're just a good person and that carries through to your vlogs. Stay well.
Paul, I'm a big fan of your channel so I've thought carefully about this comment. I think that you're slightly letting your viewers down by not commenting on the kit that you use. Most of us are gear nerds and are really interested in kit we haven't got but might want to acquire, and we rely on you to give us your opinions based on actual use of the kit. For instance I don't think I've seen you use that tent before, is it new? I'd have liked to hear your impresions of it. You're letting a few boo boys stop you from doing one of the things that you do so well, please reconsider and start giving us your thoughts about the gear again. One little tip for you: You're right that Butane isn't any use below zero degrees centigrade but MSR and Jetboil (I thnk) cannisters contain ISOBUTANE which is good down to minus twelve so you shouldn't need to worry about keeping them warm. Keep up the good work, amazing views on this one, really enjoyed it, thanks .
You’re a great bloke making wonderful videos allowing us armchair wild campers to live vicariously through your adventures.
Just wanted to show my appreciation. 🙂👍
Hello Paul! That's exactly the kind of videos I like! Nice landscape, adventurous hike and some explanation how you handle it - perfect 🤗
I’ve bought a lot of camping gear based on RUclipsrs reviews so personally I’m going to miss them here. At the end of the day RUclips channels become successful because they give the viewers what they want to see. If they don’t, then viewers will simply go elsewhere. I’ll carry on watching a few more videos and see how they work but for me this is a massive shift in why I subscribed. Tbh, I couldn’t help think that the video explaining doing no more reviews was a knee jerk reaction just to get another video out there.
Beautiful views out there. Stay warm.
Yep, from personal experience I would say that coming down that particular slope is murder on the calves. Ouch! 😩
Top score there Paul. Fabulous! That evening sky looked awesome too. Cheers, Warren :)
Lovely video and breath taking views .
10/10 video, you sounded so much energetic and having fun, almazing place too 👍
I will miss your reviews regardless but looking forward to the change of format.Good luck
Stunning views. Winter camping is great and frost in the morning when it's all crisp is awesome. Great video Paul.
Regarding getting cold hands while doing stuff - have you tried a liner glove for while your working/cooking then Buffalo mittens to put on to warm up? They are very light & very toasty! I keep mine in a small dry bag when winter climbing in case of emergency.
You were lucky Paul you got there before all the snow.
Thank you Paul...I just find myself smiling though ur whole video 😊❤from Michigan
I think that not discussing the gear makes the tone of this video very fresh and different. You're the only one to do this among the people I follow. I like it (I wouldn't mind if you went back either, I was following you before you decided to try this format). Thanks Paul for sharing these views in this season!
You are really skillful, very skillful 👏
Thank you for another great video. 🏕
Really enjoyed this Paul. Thanks.
Chapstick required Paul! Fabulous views.
Thank you Paul for another great video, I love the Lake District and your trips out there and prefer this style of video - solo on a hill with a walk of any length.
Best time of the year for camping! I just recently got the 10mm poles for my Unna. I’d definitely recommend them for those camps that might get a little more windy 👍. Nice video as always! ATB
Waiting for your next video pal, stop watching youtube and get out there! (If I wasn't too old to do emojis there would be a smiley face here, but you seem like an intelligent lad for a Yank so I'm sure you understand that my tongue is planted firmly in my cheek).
I did a cold weather camp last week with my tarptent moment DW solid. It was my first go with that particular tent. It gave me the chance to try out new gear and warm weather clothing that still keeps my pack somewhat light. I don't carry it in as far, but there's absolutely NOBODY else around. I love the solitude and winter sunsets and sunrises. They are truly special! My gear kept me pretty toasty. The little toe warmers, down booties and body warmers that stick onto the outside of my clothing inside my quilt work super well. Cheers!
Yeah those hand and body warmers really do help out when one is just taking in the sights
Thar scenery makes it all worthwhile.... Thanks for sharing.
That view was spectacular
A glorious spot for scenery Paul … Thankyou 😊
You had a real sparkle in your eye there mate, cracking video!
I got excited when I saw you had the Unna as it’s a tent I’ve considered buying in the past, along with the Enan and I couldn’t decide between them. I’d briefly forgotten you’re no longer commenting on, or reviewing products and was looking forward to hearing your opinions on it as a winter tent. I like everything about it other than the lack of vestibule which could be a problem when it comes to cooking in bad weather. I still enjoyed the video and only wish I could’ve been out camping myself. Keep up the good work Paul.
Amazing vid Paul, you don't need gear reviews with views like that.
Fairplay that meal looked amazing been thinking of a vacuum sealer for a while now, you've jusr but you've sold it too me
Best tent Hilly make.
I use Mylar bags and have curry, roast, casserole, bolognaise etc or indeed anything in them. Freeze them then take the frozen meal out and it defrosts enough to cook when you get there. Use the boil in the bag perfect portions of basmati rice and mini naan.
I would say don't panic about it but definitely don't stop. This community that's here for you Paul - listens to your advice. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Please keep doing gear reviews it helps us decide on what gear to buy and not to buy.
I personally think you're restricting yourself not doing gear reviews. It appeals to us who can't afford to spend hundreds on a jacket. Help us out and we'll help you out with views and likes.
Boil in the bags idea
Brilliant !
I have a Hilleberg Rogen and replaced the poles with those from a Staika - now just about able to stand up to anything. I often take a 'Big Soup' with added meat and veg - makes a really great meal. Have a peak at Decathlon Down Parka - around £160 and supremely cosy, it's become my go to once in my tent. I also wear Vivo's - best footwear Ive found. I wax mine from time to time and they've never et me down.
This is great. I was just out camping in 25F the other week for a few nights and it felt amazing being out under the stars with noting more then moonlight through the trees to guide your path in the woods. Although minus the wind, a mountain top looks like a more interesting view
Absolutely fantastic,I was up on the mountains not too far away from where you camped just a few days ago & underfoot conditions on the icy granite was lethal at times so fair play to you for continuing to video as you negotiated both the ascent & descent as I can vouch it isn't as easy as it may seem at times! Awesome views & with the right gear it looked like a great camp..as for not mentioning your gear, well personally I like it when you do,by giving advice etc it may just save someone's life by them not going out ill equipped in conditions that they or their equipment aren't ready for..thanks for taking us along on another great adventure.
Ah, there’s another place on my list of spots 👍🏼👍🏼 looks superb, Paul. Some great footage.
Cheers,
Gary B
So happy to see someone else use this tent. Have had it a few years now and is absolutely solid. Haven't double poled as yet, not really been the need but can if I do. Thanks for sharing all your videos and input. Love the channel and the honesty. Makes me want to do more that's for certain.
What an absolute cracking spot to camp. Nevermind the gear, I'd love to see more views like that!
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing Paul really enjoyed again
Now that was one of your best! enough chat to make it friendly; but as you said the scenery is the star but you have the skills to capture it. Thanks it's great to be outdoors even if its on the "tube". Wet, slush today, I struggle with walking any distance and its not biking weather ;-( .
Absolutely beautiful views, and another great camp. Thanks for taking us along. And I will take you up on your dare, hopefully on Wednesday.
Great video Paul, you seem more relaxed and really happy in what you're doing - perfectly summed-up at 26:26.
I love fall camping, couldn't agree more about snugging up warm and cozy and then knocking frost of the tent in the morning, great video
A stunning camp marra had everything, frost views great food and solitude cheers Paul appreciated all the best 😃🏕❄
Great spot for a camp with that view Paul. Looking to getting out again in January for an overnight camp. Thanks for sharing.
I was up kinder last night with my brother inlaw. The weather changed alot. Ended up with half a foot snow drifts on the tent. Before the pea soup came in the views where amazing.
Alway enjoy watching your videos, totally envy you having such amazing areas up north.
All the best.
Darren
Loved this one Mr M. Great to see you really enjoying the camping.
A nice video Paul and I totally agree about the cold frosty camps. They are the best! I also make my own meals but I use PBA free Mylar foil bags, sealing them with the wife’s hair straighteners, freezing until needed and then just reheat in my Jetboil Summo! Don’t give up doing reviews as you are inspiring newcomers like Twiggy and SolosarahB to seek out wildcamping adventures, ATVB Sidestickflyer 😂
Cracking Video Paul, but I have to agree with tha lads on the what's app group bonkers. Brilliant but bonkers😂 well done!!
Really enjoyed that Paul. The footage you captured was absolutely gorgeous 😍. Definitely fancy myself some home cooked meals at the top of the hills too. Genius idea!
Loved the DIY boil in the bags, some proper food. Made me smile that one, you captured what it’s all about.
Magic. 👍
G'Day from Australia mate! mate, been enjoying your vids. Not only has it been great from someone starting out camping and hiking but it's great to see some of the area's my late Dad would have gone hiking and geocaching in and around Yorkshire. (he moved back to the UK and lived around Leeds/Bradford) Thanks again for being part of the motivation to get me off me backside.
Thank you for the video Paul. Stunning view's and awesome content 🤘
Please do the gear reviews as well. I think doing both makes your videos so inspiring and helpful. 👍🏻
Excellent video Paul. Planning a trip to the Peaks in 2024 and this has certainly given me some ideas. Thanks. Gear list in the description and video about the experience is my preferred format too. Keep em coming!
Great video Paul - keep 'em coming. As a lad born and bred in the Lakes but living away it was wonderful to see the place looking so good.
A lovely chilled vid Paul - one of your best for relaxation! 💕
Looks class up there. You are right about coming down , far harder on the knees . Looking forward to a winter camp :-)
Yup going downhill has become more challenging as I’ve gotten older … at 64 it’s become tricky … recently started doing specific strength training … hopefully improves strength and balance in couple months.
Really nice video Paul! Definitely one of the best tents out there for what it’s made for
Thanks for another fantastic video Paul. You’re a legend. Inspirational as always. Planning & hopefully a frosty night on the Ochils in Clackmannanshire in January. I love reading all the gear that you use, keep posting mate even though your costing my hubby a blooming fortune 😂, well he says it’s worth it when I give home P&Q for the night when I camp out. You and Jo have a brilliant Christmas and look forward to more videos. All the best mate 🎄🏕️❄️
The Trekker Chair has been my stand-out piece of kit for this year....... Weighs next to nowt, takes up no room, but what a diff it makes. There are loads of diff ways you can configure it & it's comfy AF. I must say, you certainly made the views the star of this vid, they are epic. What a privilege to have the place pretty much to yourself! ATB
Great video. I definitely would like to see you try to do more meals like this.💯
Love it,fantastic everything, can't beat the views up north 👌
I like to crawl out of the sack at the crack of 10:00 am in my warm house...........but I love to watch your videos. Thanks for all your hard work to share with us. Cheers from the US.
Fantastic, my wife and I loved that video. Enjoyed the whole adventure, more natural, stunning scenery. Thank you just the sort of videos we love. 👍🥶🥶
Really enjoyed that . Nicely done 👏👏
Great video Paul. There is nothing better than feeling winter staring you in the face
Them views! Brilliant video as usual thanks matey
Always lovely watching your videos mate 👌
All the best ❤️
Wonderful camping in winter. I really appreciate the views you are showing and the great countryside. I always watched your camps more for the views then the equipment. Great Format now with those outstanding views. I'm in the USA so the only way I see these places is on channels like yours. Thanks. Take Care and Stay Safe.
Great video Paul as always. I can’t wait to get back out again. ⛰️😊👍
Well done
Good to see you getting out by yourself
Really beautiful skies and camerawork. Thanks for the inspiration.
Haha! No way! That’s my Toyota Rav 4 in the Glenridding Car park 😂😂😂 I was doing Helvellyn via striding edge that day. Glad I took my micro spikes, it was a little Icy up there
Really loved this video Paul, you look very happy as well! Thanks for sharing!
