Thank You so much for uploading this tape because these unedited scenes and dialogue proved exactly Purple Rain was the GREATEST Rock N Roll film of ALL TIMES.
The estate might not be able to do it even if they wanted to milk it. The original negatives for the deleted shots and scenes might already be lost or destroyed beyond repair. A 4K scan of the theatrical cut is probably possible though!
Thank U duane 4 sharing this. Been waitin 4 some kinda deleted scenes 4 40 years now and this here is something special. Hope 2 C the other deleted scenes from the trailer.
Thank U 4 this wonderful upload. I know there are scenes that are in the movie trailer of Purple Rain that was never in the movie Warner Brothers must know about. I wish WB would release them for all of us purple people.
They (WB & his Estate) would make a lot of money from his global fans if they produced a Directors Cut version with all removed scenes AND a box set of all the music/albums connected to PR. But I doubt they ever will - that would take planning and effort. Thanks 4 the comment 🕊️☮️
Top work there, thank you. Have had the workprint for a while but having spent my youth grinding through seventh generation VHS copies, I couldn't quite muster the energy for another one. Nice to hear the studio "Father's Song" in there.
Thank you for positive comment. Glad u enjoyed. Outside of these handful of minutes the work print isn’t really worth a full watch. Better to watch the official release. 🕊️☮️
Absolutely loved the purple rain film the rated r xxxxxx Mr Alexander whatever and the revolution and Morris day and the time forever more than life itself
Thanks a lot for posing! Those audience shots are everything. Do you, or does anyone, have the scene where Prince and Jellybean get into a physical fight? I hear that’s unintentionally hilarious!
Most welcome. I do not and I’ve never seen that scene - just heard about it. That would be funny to see - a 6 foot + man fighting little petite Prince - haha. Probably why it was removed, Prince realized it would make him look silly. Thanks 4 being a viewer. 🕊️☮️
I read the original script and there’s a lot more going on it would’ve gotten an X rating if unedited. The rape scene was performed but taken out, Prince tried to rape Apollonia but she turn the tables on him. Wendy and Lisa make out in the clubs hallway. Dr. Fink is a creepy perv. Prince has more sex scenes with Apollonia. Prince has road rage with a train conductor. Prince’s mom is a prostitute. And she starts flirting with Prince. The father beats up the mother when Apollonia is sleeping next to Prince. Morris and Jerome run from the cops. Prince stalks Apollonia constantly. Prince fights with one of The Time members. Brownmark has a couple of lines. Jill has more lines and scenes. It’s a really dark movie.
If true, that’s wild and good they didn’t follow through on that script… definitely would’ve been risking an NC-17 box office stamp of death. Thanks 4 the comment 🕊️☮️
Unfortunately his estate and WB will never release any of it as Directors Cuts… they seem preoccupied with reconfiguring the same 6 albums over and over and selling t-shirts and throw blankets. Thank u 4 the comment 🕊️☮️
@@duane.PrinceDMSR the Estate doesn't know how to handle things, themselves, and the list of 'outside handlers' gets longer. Didn't they THINK to talk to the Jimi Hendrix Estate?? A similar situation, after the fact.
@@duane.PrinceDMSR the Estate doesn't seem 'to know, how to respect the Prince Family of Musicians.' They WORKED with Him. THEY knew Him. You and Charles, also, obviously.
I wouldn’t waste the time nor energy of any kind of re-release of Graffiti Bridge. That movie was painfully awful. I love Prince… but that movie was a huge mistake in every way
The term "Director's Cut" seems to get thrown around a lot as a blanket term for any kind of extended version or re-edit of a film. Have Albert Magnoli or Prince ever expressed any dissatisfaction with the theatrical cut or mentioned that there was ever any invasive studio meddling during production? If not, then the released version of the film likely IS the Director's Cut, in which case any kind of re-insertion of deleted footage would just be an extended version that the director may or may not even have any involvement with. The term "Director's Cut" generally only applies when studio interference or other parties objecting to something results in a Director's vision being compromised. Often if a film does well enough or gains a big enough of a following, a director will be allowed by the studio to come back and re-edit the film to his liking. In many instances however, the final released cut of a film IS what the director wanted to begin with and there's no desire on their end to do anything further with it. Just because more footage exists doesn't mean the filmmaker ultimately wanted it in the final cut. That's what editing is for. Sometimes an idea seems good at the time or you just overshoot and then during editing you decide it simply doesn't work or isn't needed. It's all about pacing. If a film isn't well paced, there's the potential of losing the audience's attention. You don't want to bloat a film with unnecessary or redundant scenes if you've already gotten the point across.
This is very true and Mr. Magnoli being an editor first knew the fundamentals when it comes to pacing and structure. While I would’ve loved to see everything that happened between Morris and Apollonia and then The Kid and Apollonia after the first love scene, had he not cut those extra sequences we would not have gotten the When Doves Cry montage. That montage helped make music history. I’ve heard over the years that Prince had a personal copy of the 2 ½ hour rough cut. Hopefully, the estate can track down that copy similar to what Criterion did with John Hughes’ “The Breakfast Club” or hopefully Mr. Magnoli retained a copy of some of the initial versions before being completely cut down. I have faith.
@@rlstokey Yes, I would absolutely love to see any additional footage released as some form of bonus material. Also with Prince being the perfectionist he was, I certainly wouldn’t think he would allow a project to come out with his involvement that he wasn’t satisfied with. I am completely confident that the final finished film is what Albert Magnoli and Prince wanted to be released.
Wow!!! This is Electric!!! I’m a Prince Fan and a filmmaker… I was at the Purple Rain tour and would love to see this full work print where do I find it… Inshallah, Peace and Power..
