    To this very day (and forever after), I truly believe that The Rippingtons will always be perceived as The Most Underrated Band In The History Of Bands. They’re just so tight, and free, and... amazing.

      You are exactly right. I just happened to find his first album in 1986 (Moonlighting) and was hooked on this band from that time on. Saw them LIVE on a cold winter night in Birmingham, AL at the Carver theater and I was blown away. Seems like just yesterday.

    This was the first song I ever heard by the Rippingtons; I'll never forget it. I was in a record store in St. Louis and this was playing (the studio version). I liked it, so I asked the guy behind the counter what it was, and he said "The Rippingtons" and handed me the CD case. I've been a fan of theirs ever since.

    Russ Freeman is The MASTER of this GENRE: Smooth HAPPY JAZZ! The additional perk of David Benoit on the Piano and the Late GREAT Carl Anderson on vocals makes this one of The BEST Happy Jazz songs/performance EVER in this Genre!!!

  • @BSaxTop
    @BSaxTop 15 лет назад +13

    It's the late great Carl Anderson, who was a staple at GRP for backgrounds and studio work. He did an excellent version of "O Holy Night" on one of the GRP Christmas CDs. He was so cool.

    • @apollosolo1582
      @apollosolo1582 Год назад +2

      Ironically, many people claimed the vocals on this track was that of the late Al Jarreau, however the vocals on this track belonged to the also late but great Mister Carl. Anderson. To anyone who was familiar with this guy. It's not a surprise the power and intensity of power this man's vocals brought to the table. Thanks for sharing.

    Ripps Live in LA was the pinnacle of their long history. Jeff K, Kim S, Tony M and
    Steve Reed & Mark Portman......with Russ was the best lineup they ever put together!

    They ripped the stage up in Memphis at the New Daisy....we saw them off to Boston safely. Strictly Jazz Entertainment, LLC would like to thank the Rippingtons for gracing our city with the sounds of GREAT MUSIC.

    Aww this song takes me back to a few years ago when I would listen to it on my way to the lake for my sailing class at college... Boring as hell town, so I would listen to the rippingtons and it just takes me back. Love this song- makes me want to go back to sailing and go on a cruise!

    One of their very great hits in my opinion. I wish they had recorded another video with the "hep" blue cat. I remember I was once looking for a picture of a cat + jazz on google, and I found the cover of their first cd Moonlight, then I found how great they play fussion jazz, Now I have the whole collection for the rippingtons, and I play it everyday. Thanks for sharing the video.
