  • In his ‘Overreaction Monday’ segment Rich Eisen says why this was the greatest weekend of football EVER, if Tom Brady will retire or come back to play at age 45, if Aaron Rodgers will surprise a lot of people and stay with the Green Bay Packers, if Joe Burrow will be the first QB in the last 4 draft classed to win a Super Bowl, if the 49ers regret trading up to draft Trey Lance now that Jimmy Garoppolo has the Niners back in the NFC Championship game, if the Rams will be the 2nd straight team to win the Super Bowl on their home turf, if Cooper Kupp is the most dangerous offensive player in the NFL, and if the Titans can win a title with Ryan Tannehill as their QB.

What they’re forgetting is that Alex Smith didn’t take the Chiefs as far, but he individually was significantly better than Jimmy G is right now. Alex Smith led the NFL in almost everything in 2017, that’s how he kept his job. Their defense used to be horrible & collapsed in the playoffs, but the point is I don’t think anyone would accuse Jimmy G of being the best in the NFL at anything…

As a life long 49er fan I would happily take that scenario. That's not to say our fan base doesn't have love for Jimmy G and all the things he has done for us but even if he won it all he has shown he can't be the long term solution in SF and we need to move forward with the decision we already made. Furthermore it allows for him to be traded as a guy teams will want in a market that always needs capable QB's.

@@seymourbutts4654 it's mainly the injuries. Jimmy's biggest struggle, even more than the turnovers, has been health. Cause really, when you think about it, if we can do all we've done with Jimmy G, how good does Trey Lance really HAVE to be for us to maintain our current level of play? Like, Trey just has to manage the game, make a couple timely throws when we need them, and stay upright. Of course, it'd be NICE if Trey is Josh Allen, but if he can give us Jimmy G without the injuries, that's all we really need.
Plus, Trey is gonna be cheaper. Think, Jimmy wins the super bowl, or even MAKES it, and you've got a starting level QB who's gone to a super bowl, two NFC championship games, and still has a lot in the tank. There's quite a few teams that can use that

JG threw at least four perfect passes that game which were dropped, but everything is his fault. When I watch games, I see them being lost due to a culmination of mistakes by many players, not just one guy.

Pretty sure Brady and Chris Carter think about "family" a little differently. Then again Brady brought AB into his home haha. Jimmy G was basically playing for green bay and Rogers still can't get it done, he is way too predictable going to devante Adams, Adams is incredible but way too predictable. And overtime rules has to changed for playoffs. I'm not a chiefs or bills fan but for 25 points to be scored in the last 2 minutes and the game comes down to a coin toss. 11 playoff games have gone into overtime and 10 times the team that won the coin toss wins the game. Every other sport plays an extra inning or quarter except NFL. Bills and chiefs were basically the AFC championship game in my opinion and if the bills won the coin toss they win the game. Just in the playoffs it should be an extra 8-10 minutes or something.

As a Niners fan, if we win the Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo trade him in the offseason if you get a haul of picks. Our secondary is still not good enough to contest against teams with field stretching receivers. Only move off of him if we get enough picks to improve our team in the draft. I wouldn't have a complaint considering we went 6-10 in 2020 and are winners of the Super Bowl in this hypothetical discussion. Tell me why not?

If Brady comes back, and i bet he will, he will face all 4 remaining teams next regular season and a shot at beating them all for a revenge tour for the ages. Bucs have to be ready for that. Transform that defense into a more efficient scoring defense. That will be the best story book ending to an already legendary career. To win all next season, after facing and beating all four playoff teams along the way.

If anything, what the niners need to acknowledge is that they don't need stellar QB play to win football games. As long as they can run the ball and play lights out defense, they can win. It'll be ugly sometimes, but winning is winning. This should give them all the confidence to move off of Jimmy and give the keys to Trey and see if he can meet that high ceiling they drafted him for, without worrying too much about having a losing season. If the rest of the team can step up for Jimmy, they can do the same for Trey.
