Yes, finally someone who else has figured out this short cut! Thank you. I've asked and no one knew. Now I wonder if you can use the other positive and negative ports on the mirror for another device?
The mirror works and is the ONLY place you should plug in a dash cam. Plugging into the collision detection camera can interfere with that system and Toyota strongly recommends against it. Dongar Tech makes an adapter that plugs into the mirror.

@automatereviews I've read that these cameras get pretty warm when in use and they only record in 1 minute time intervals? I truly like the product but im wondering if it's better than Toyota's dashcam?
@@donniev8181 I can’t say I’ve felt the camera to see how warm it gets so I’ll have to check that some time. My commutes are short so wouldn’t be a great test. You can change the recording intervals from 1 min, 2, 5, 10, and 15 minute intervals. It’s loop recording so it will save the clips and automatically delete the older clips. I’ve had good luck with mine. The biggest con is probably the app. Connecting it to view videos can take awhile. I prefer just to remove the SD card and put in my computer if I need to see the clips. Never tried the Toyota one so idk about that. Hope that helps.
@automatereviews thanks! Sorry just seen your comment, mine should be arriving tomorrow. Any tips or pointers about the cam or app? Yeah, from all of my research, it seems like everyone that has bought this unit is happy with it. Thanks for the heads up on the connection/viewing issue. Seems like Toyota would partner with a company like this, the way it fits with the vehicle is far superior than having extra things sticking out on the windshield.
@@donniev8181 no other pointers really other than what’s shown on the video. As mentioned the app is my biggest gripe with how slow it can be at times. Good luck.

I’m sure you can as long as it runs on the same voltage and doesn’t draw to much current to blow the fuse.

@@wewdwhere is that plug?
I bought one. Hopefully quality is as RUclips videos make it to be.
Nice. I’ve had mine for a year and so far it’s been good. Good luck with yours.

doesn’t it already come with a camera tho ?
It does but doesn’t record video. It’s used for the Toyota Safety Sense suite of tech. This is strictly for recording video while you drive.
