- Dive into the heart-pounding world of "Hi-Fi Rush," the rhythm-action game that defies expectations and delivers a unique, electrifying experience. Developed by Tango Gameworks and unveiled in a surprise announcement on January 25, 2023, this game is a vibrant leap into a world where every move and every battle is synced to the beat.
"Hi-Fi Rush" follows the story of Chai, a wannabe rockstar armed with a guitar and a robotic arm, in his quest against a sinister corporation. Set in a brightly colored, cel-shaded world, the game seamlessly blends combat and rhythm, challenging players to fight in sync with the music. Featuring a mix of licensed tracks from renowned artists and original compositions, "Hi-Fi Rush" creates an immersive soundscape that is as integral to the gameplay as it is to the atmosphere.
From its inception as a "dream game" by Director John Johanas, to its development journey that started with a small, passionate team, "Hi-Fi Rush" stands as a testament to creativity and innovation. The game was inspired by a mix of influences and aspirations to create something fresh and entertaining, stepping away from Tango Gameworks' traditional horror roots. It's a story of taking risks, embracing new ideas, and the power of music to drive action.
Critics and players alike have praised "Hi-Fi Rush" for its stylish presentation, engaging gameplay, and how it oozes confidence with every note played and punch thrown. Despite some noting repetitive level designs and platforming challenges, the game has been celebrated for its combat mechanics, vivid art style, and how it brings the rhythm genre into the action-packed fold in an unprecedented way.
Join Chai and his eclectic band of allies in a fight to take down the corporate overlords, all to the beat of an epic soundtrack. Whether you're a fan of rhythm games looking for a new challenge, or an action aficionado ready to move to a new beat, "Hi-Fi Rush" promises a journey that's not just heard but felt - a revolution in rhythm gaming.
This game is the embodiment of "Don't kill the part of you that's cringe, kill the part that cringes" and I'm here for it.
Forspoken:
Homocide! Heck yea! 🔥🔥🔥
I’m so here for it. Be unapologetically yourself. I hate that we need to fit in.

F***ing poetry is what this is ❤
This protagonist has exactly one braincell in his body, and it is glorious.
Best part is that he’s literally 25 years old
@@k-bomb9777 No that totally tracks.
1 brain cell that bounces around his head as a metronome.
This causes more brain damage because he is hitting his brain into his skull.
And that one brain cell is literally the player

He's doomed.
The idea that we could have gotten a sequel to this, if it were not for Microsoft choosing Short-term profit over Long-term gain, will haunt me for the rest of my days.
Edit: Okay, Never mind, apparently Hi-Fi Rush and Tango Gameworks have been bought by Krafton, the Publishers of PUBG, which was....Completely unexpected, but not unwelcome.
I do have my doubts as to whether or not they Let Tango do exactly what they want to do without interfering, but for now, to quote Tango Gameworks creative director John Johanas;
"WE'RE BACK, BABY!"
The Bethesda CEO gave himself a 100 million bonus before dipping under the Microsoft merger. The industry is a joke
And the Microsoft brand as a whole too
Fuck Microsoft
We may still get a sequel, if the remaining developers can pick themselves off their feet.
@@kingcamelot1395 I’m pretty sure Microsoft has the rights for it

@@pablosaul4872 It’s literally all on him too all Kale had to do was put the music playing back instead he threw it into his factory without a care.

Classic gag!
It's so refreshing to see a game that isn't layered with 300 different layers of irony and embracing the loser protagonist to the point where he becomes an unironic badass
Then I recommend trying the evil within games then, not exactly similar in tone and gameplay but when it comes to its story telling this studio wear their inspirations and goofiness on their sleeve proudly and dont even bother to point it out.
I've played and beaten both. I prefer the first one although the second is technically a better game

What I love about this is it's stated that Chai is disabled in his right arm as officially stated by one of the developers. I forget who but I saw it on the TVtropes page. So Chai has a legitimate reason for joining Project Armstrong.
Haha I get it armstrong because his arm is strong now
Might be erbs paulsey I have it in my right arm and it makes it weak
It is really sad that even before the surgery process, he was being mistreated-- which kinda something I will forgive a little bit since they are robots, but to those who programmed them in the first place... i wont. Even getting recalled means getting killed, that's a lot cruel.
Also it made sense now that he cant play a guitar at first because of his disability. Chai could've tell Peppermint that.
@@BiBiren
I think it's because deep in his heart he knows it wouldn't have mattered whether or not he had his arm because he wouldn't have put in the effort until after the game.
@@BiBirenThe game doesn’t take Chai’s part of his history that serious, but honestly it’s quite sad if you think about it, the guy totally wanted to be a rockstar yet his disability made him unable to even play guitar, so when the opportunity presents itself in Project Armstrong, something marketed to be the way for people to achieve their dreams and reach their fullest potential, Chai saw the chance to be an actual rockstar yet not only he is mistreated all the way, the project itself gives him an arm for picking up trash.
He never had the chance to shine yet all of the world already deems him a loser, and while the game itself as I said doesn’t take it that far or focuses that much on Chai (ironically), I can’t help but feel sorry for the guy
The writing in this game is such a perfect balance of good writing and nearly cringe, it's beautiful.
the writing is cringe. But it’s visuals and style keep it afloat.
@@gaspachoo5046 congrats you got the point
The cringe works because he's a lovable doofus.
@@gaspachoo5046 I disagree, the cringe work because Chai is dumb, and the game knows it. There are so many scenes where Chai gets hurt/make things worst because of his rockstar attitude.
He's cringe, but the game doesn't worship him
@@Sir_Bucket *Forspoken Flashbacks*
The fact that his footsteps sync with the beat when he’s running, even when you can’t hear his footsteps is such nice attention to detail
What I think is really impressive is there’s two modes, Streamer and Normal with two sets of music. Which means both sets have to match up.
I think the other music by black keys fits a lot better!
His idle syncs to the beat too, everything does
Apparently the reason why Chai wanted to become a rockstar despite not knowing how to play a guitar is because his right arms are somewhat disabled and he most likely joined project armstrong to replace it with robot arms
i love how it's Kale's fault for Chai becoming a defect, and he didn't even know.
Yeah, Kale is the one who should blame for the collapse of his reign
This game is gonna age better than most SUPER REALISTIC AAA games of this gen.
Absolutely. This game is still gonna look great in 20 years. The whole "gritty realism" gimmick ia so tired already, I don't care about a game looking like real life or having realistic mechanics like hunger. I just want a game that's fun and looks distinct and good.
Sometimes it feels like artstyles are a bit of a lost art, but games like these give me hope
@@rasmuskock8077 The "gritty realism" gimmick was tired in the PS3 era, but they keep doubling down on it every gen with more and more realistic graphics. But look at stuff like Mega Man Legends on PS1, it still looks pretty good even today compared to it's contemporary "realistic" games. This will be the same way.
@@orchNEStra 8 bit will never age
@@des6801 mega man legends isn't 8-bit
@@orchNEStraa good art style will trump graphics every time. Look at wind waker compared to contemporary “realistic” games, and the contrast is clear
That mp3 player must have been from Nokia. That's why Chai is so tuff
This game is the epitome of “I’m cringe but I’m free” and that’s why it fucking rocks (pun intended)
To embrace the cringe, is based
_“Fear the man who has embraced his cringe, for nothing you do will ever phase them”_
Genuine enthusiasm has a tendency to be labeled cringe. I think it's because of peoples own self conscious insecurities. I haven't played Hi-Fi Rush yet, but after watching some of it I thought it looked fun and endearing.
“Don’t kill the part of you that is cringe. Kill the part of you that cringes”
The trap most "self aware" stories fall into is that they'll make an aloof protagonist constantly quipping about how generic the tropes are while the actual plot plays them straight. But if you don't care about the story you're telling, why should I? You can only make it work if the protagonist is wholeheartedly sincere about all the nonsense around them.
I can't believe Chai is 25! If you pause on the resume it shows his face. Another thing to mention is that Kale is a two-faced megalomaniac!
Same! I thought he was a high school student! 😱
Is it weird how Hi-Fi Rush with it’s colors and animation style, gives me nostalgia for Disney XD cartoons?
@SKARGUT thanks for the correction, my bad lmao
I honestly thought more of Cartoon Networks
Reminds me of star wars resistance now that you mention Disney xd
What about Hosada’s Belle?
it reminds me more of persona 5
"Is that a weapon?...I think he's resisting" - Corrupt police in a nutshell
"What a piece of junk" HA, that junk you throw like nothing, started your fall
Ah, yes! The irony! XD
You know a game is fantastic when either the studio that developed it abandoned the game (Titanfall 2 per example) or the studio got closed (HiFi Rush)
You good sir have fantastic taste. Two great games
@@beans9288 you too because you know about those 2 games, monsieur
Didn't realize until now that his arm sling is his scarf. Neat.
This game looks like a really good cartoon from the early 2010s that gained a cult following
1:09 I like that the steps are synced with the music, cool!
That’s literally the entire gimmick of the game.
legit everything is in beat in this game lmao
Like that doesn't happen in the entire game, lol
@@TheGoncas2 it legit does, whenever theres background music everything goes insync with it
At this point in the game, it would've been more of a statement if they *didn't* sync, seeing as his mp3 player seems to cause this effect around him.
I just realize there’s kind of a foreshadowing of kale’s entire body being a robot
Whenever he picks up the music player, there is an audible noise of something other than flesh picking up a metal/plastic object
Chai has a single braincell. Before he got his mp3 player embedded into his body, he had none.
808 is chai’s brain cell
Is no one just gonna talk about the fact that both his arms worked fine at 2:45?
Probably an animation error
wow wtf I just noticed, that's so weird
The creator confirmed he doesn't have full function in his arm so he still has SOME function in it for small stuff like what we see at 2:45

Totally not Bethesda casually dropping GOTY.
They r publishers, not developers.
2023 and people still mix up publishers with developers...
Imagine thinking that Bethesda release polished game just once?
@@SpecShadow but
Tango is owned by Bethesda?
GOTY will be what's most popular. Not what is best. It can't be since we all have different tastes on what game is better. I'm rooting for this game but I don't think it'll win unless the other more well known games coming out this year flop. Feel free to come back here and tell me I'm wrong if it does win though.
@@spectralassassin6030 Well it does has a chance taking in mind it released so early into the year, it gives time for less know titles to get more scene and players. Pretty sure it will be nominated tho.
Goddamn, seeing it again after finishing it, this intro scene was really good.
If they say this was getting an animated series after the game, I won't be surprised
It’s crazy most things that just happen in the game, like the metal hitting his stick, are matched to the beat of the music.
I find this so strange that this was made by the same company that made evil within and ghost wire: Tokyo. Specially since it turned their serious story but with a small hint of goofy to goofy with a small hint seriousness.
To be fair ghost wire Tokyo has a proper techno vibe underneath it.
Obligatory "Fuck Microsoft" Counter
They've legit been taking ls since the end of the 360
I thought this was a tv show but it’s a amazing game
I find it hard to believe this is a game running in real time. It looks like an animated movie.
It's unbelievable that they shut down Tango Gameworks after 1 year of Hi-Fi Rush's release.
The most acclaimed, original and creative game in Xbox's current generation and they killed the studio. This is a joke.
Can’t believe they shadow dropped this game
Chai is basically a loveable moron and I love him for it~
I swear Robbie Daymond killed this role 😁😁
The game feels like someone took PS2/GC era game design and modernized it. (which I love, because that era had the best platformers).
Chai had the means to be a glorious rockstar
The game looks like a 2000s to early 2010s cartoon that would've been canceled by the head company for having terrible toy line sales.

What a way to get used to a missing arm. Just fucking *THUD* into a grate to make you instinctively use it.
It's kind of weird but for some reason, the animation and music remind me a bit of Yu-Gi-Oh GX. Maybe it's just the nostalgia this game gave me.
So now we need chai to become an evil overlord for some time.

Alright, this is the first thing I've seen of this game, and I totally get the hype. Gonna check it out
Nothing against Robbie he did really well but whenever I first saw the game I always imagined Jack De Sena as the voice for chai
2:45 artists must have forgotten one arm was broken
2:46 he isn't just one arm?
The artstyle looks like something from Ben 10
Im in love with this game.
imho, The 3D is alot better than the 2D. It’s got more “Oompf” than the 2D does.
Still confused why his arm was in a sling and he needed a new robotic arm
as i understand, Chai just naturally didn't have full motor control in his arm, so signing up for the prosthetics program was basically a win-win for both sides, he gets a better arm and they get a test subject
Honestly it might just be me but I love the streamer mode of the opening more that the original Lonely Boy. Especially this part where they go “oh oh yea yea” and “keep me off the rocky shore, keep me off the ocean floor” 2:44

I’m looking at the thumbnail and the guy with the green shirt’s sleeve looking kinda SUSSY
*get out of my head get out of my head get out of my head-*
I hadn't seen this scene without Lonely Boy yet. The streamer ost actually still seems pretty good. (Though, I feel like Lonely Boy definitely flows better with the visuals)
Does his old normal arm not work or is it just very weak because he has the cling their 98% of this before he gets the robot arm, like his right arm doesn't work but at 2:47 he uses both arms normally.
My assumption, he faked having an injured arm to be one of the first to get a new robot arm.
Alriiight, you convinced me. I'll buy the game.
Having fun?

That song at the start sounds more like a discount “Lonely Boy” from The Black Keys.
there are two different tracks in the game. Streamer mode and the original. without streamer mode in this cutscene you're correct, Lonely boy plays. later more bands like nine inch nails, The prodigy, and others are featured. Its just to avoid copyright claims since that whole system is fucked
