    Great video, I know not everyone has 2 soldering irons but a great way to remove components such as these easily. Also probably beyond the scope of this video but maybe worth mentioning these modern vrm controller ics will turn on the low side mosfet(s) in the occurrence of a high side short to clamp the overvoltage event(which generally blows them up too and maybe why there is sometimes 2?!)

    Just an observation and question from your video -
    Testing the fuses that are in parallel; even if one was blown, would you not still read closed circuit/continuity through the path of the other fuse?
    If so, is the only way to accurately check to de-solder?

    Thank you for this video and detailed explanation, just getting into GPU repair and replaced a fuse by soldering a new one over the top... worked great until I put the card under load, think a MOSFET probably blew. Hopefully I didn't kill a core or something

      Soldering a replacement fuse directly over the top of the original one should work just fine. More likely there is some other problem causing a MOSFET to blow under load. Did the fuse blow again this time?

      @@LearnElectronicsRepair Thanks for the reply! No the fuse is still OK. I replaced it with a glass 10A fuse and it hasn't blown

      @@Crdguy Ahhh maybe that wasn't a good idea. Fuses, as well as having an Amp rating, also differ in the time it takes to blow and in how much current over the maximum rating they will withstand for very short periods of time (surges).
      The ones on GPU are very fast acting and you need to replace them with the correct type. The idea is the fuse can blow fast enough to prevent the MOSFET that is delivering the current to the load from blowing first.
      So it is a race as to which device blows first, fuse or MOSFET... I think you can probably see now why you need to fit the correct type of fuse. Having said that, why do you think you have a shorted MOSFET?
      As it just so happens I am about to publish a rather special new video, that will teach you all you need to know about diagnosing and tracing short circuit MOSFETs in VRMs - that will be published tonight or Friday morning. I think you will find it very interesting and useful.

      @@LearnElectronicsRepair Thanks, well when the card is turned on the fan spins at 100%, it gets hot around the power connector but not at the PCIe. So I'm guessing some power line isn't being turned on because of a blown MOSFET, but this is my first ever attempt at fixing a GPU so I'm probably wrong. And like you say there must be another reason why the MOSFET blew... the card worked before I pulled loads of power through it for the benchmark. Also this is a Gigabyte GTX 1070, the ITX one and this fuse blowing seems to be a common issue with it from what I have found.
      New video sounds great, will definitely watch it when it's out. Thank you

    I’m interested to know which graphics card you use for OBS and 2 cameras. I use the same set up but want 4 cameras all set to 1220x1080. My current card only allows 2 cameras on this setting , it will allow 4 if resolution is lowered. I use the usual logic usb hd cam.

      The PC I use for recording has an H87 motherboard, i7-4790, 4Gb DDR3 (because it is running Windows 7 32 bit) and a GTX 750 ti 2Gb. I record directly to an internal SATA 128Gb SSD only used to capture video.
      I have three cameras.
      1920x1080 generic webcam for the face/instruments cam
      1920x1080 C mount camera (USB Output) with 5mm-50mm manual zoom/focus/aperture lens for the overhead bench cam cost about €65 from Aliexpress - the lens is this one www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001616519163.html
      1920x1080 C Mount camera on the trinocular microscope - has USB and HDMI output but I am using USB for recording
      I use OBS screen capture for the windows desktop
      Audio is from a Shure Microphone suspended above the work bench, connected to an analog audio mixer and then to PC sound card (Blue) Line Input.
      Recording software OBS Studio (free)
      Lighting is from a large 1.8m flourescent tube (not LED) mounted across a wood beam over the top of the work bench. The microphone is suspended from the same beam.
      I normally only use two video sources for recording at one time, but have used screen capture plus two cameras simultaneously a couple of times and it worked fine.
      The PC I use for editing is Asus X99 II Deluxe motherboard, i7-5820K overclocked, 16Gb DDR4, GTX 980 ti 6Gb
      OS is windows 10 64 bit
      Software (recently upgraded) is Davinci Resolve 17 free version
      This PC was built from used parts or things I repaired, such as the 980 ti and Mobo. It can render a 1080p one hour video including inserting transitions and animations/text in less than 30 mins.

    I bought a broken Radeon x1650 AGP. I gave it a try (yes, I know I shouldn't) and the fan ran for a bit then it stopped. I had a closer look and it has one of those visual fuses embedded in a clear plastic rectangle near the power connector pins and it has gone. There is clearly a short somewhere, but where do you get these little fuses from? Alternatively what is the value likely to be? I can probably find something that will suit even if it's just a bit of fine wire soldered between the fuse terminals at the back. In regards to the short this could be down to an after market cooler that has been fitted and there are two screws on the back that are very close or against the PCB

    Is it possible that no component went bad and blew the fuse, but during disassembly the user was not grounded and touched the board and blew the fuse? Thus replacing just the fuse should do the trick?

    Awesome video! I have a GPU with similar fuse but I didn't find anything wrong. Before this GPU to get faulty I had a couple of case fans stop working. Can this fuse could blown because of heating issue?

    If a fuse blown what value we get on multi meter?
