This guy died? Wow before John Parr... nuts his cover had balls and felt right. That felt like if a cover was ever needed he hit half timed. But his voice kicked hard. That was great. Never seen this till today but damn he got what made this song special.
I know right?? It’s like my anthem right now! This production is just awesome I feel the fire all throughout it’s so inspiring!! And the words are WOW! Thank you David Foster!! You are our light!!
A fine young man and a great singer gone to soon, what great talent and stage precense. He died of a blood clot in his ankle at the age of 35, so very sad. I am very glad that I was able to be at this concert and meet him, very nice man, and what a singer! Gone, but never forgotten, asa his music lives on. May you rest in peace Michael and may God give your family the strength to get through your passing.

I only know Michael Johns from this performance. Just came across this when I was googling for 'St elmo's fire live'.. He was a great singer and I'm sorry that he died.. RIP.

Got to love the knowing looks between Johns and Foster. The bond between a great songwriter who has penned a classic and a singer who is nailing the absolute shit out of it.
He is definitely missed I wish he was still here there is no tell how big he would have been. RIP Michael Johns. Thank you David Foster for backing Michael Johns up I just wish the song was longer.
Whenever i watch this, i imagine how great musician he would have become by now.. All the fame and great works he wouldve made over the 10 years... Gone too soon. RIP
Having a good memories when listening Michael singing this song a couple years ago, riding along highway at night with someone specials, RIP great singers...
when he was on "idol" and didn't win, I was confused and wondered why they weren't hearing what I was hearing. I always thought he was better than the show. And this performance always confirms my suspicions. I love the expressions on Foster's face too. He knows a thing or two about music and he realized Johns was "in the zone".

You can tell he really enjoyed performing this, 1:27 looks over at the pianist and laughs! It's a brilliant live performance of an awesome song RIP Michael Johns
“The pianist” … what an insult… David Foster is an absolute legend !!! From: Earth Wind and Fire, to Chicago, Barbra Streisand, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, to Celine Dion. He has worked with or produced every major legend in music over the last 40 years.
The original version of this is my favorite song of all time...so I don't know how I feel about it. On the one hand, he sings it amazingly and it sounds brilliant. On the other, he skips almost HALF the song.
I admit it, david foster is a legend for the music 90era. He is a good produser, composer, and a good bussiness man. His tour david foster and friend,i think its final achievement, cause his era and modern music has change... Many people today, need crispy and easy listening for music, i think cause life more complex now
Yeah David Foster! I didn't even like Michael Johns on American idol that much but he sounds fantastic singing this! Thanks, David, (and the video poster :) for converting me! :)
Still hard to believe he's gone. Even though we never met, I found out a few years ago that he was my uncles nephew. (My aunties husbands sisters son).
John Parrs Version is my absolute favourite Song, but the Performance of Michael John is really outstanding! Gone to soon. RIP

Some pitch correction on the live voice though noticed upon hearing torn apart on speakers. Either way still
Listened to this like 20 times and it's still the best song I've ever heard.
You are right.i listened to him soooo many times and it really is the best version...grest voice great artist gone too soon at his prime☹☹☹
Except for maybe 1000 other great songs. But I'll admit, it's a splendid song. ;-)

He was amazing.
2024 still a Legend! Goosebumbs every time!

An angel whispered this song to me, the title, one morning. So glad I recalled it was a song.

Whhaaat? omg, I keep going back to this version cause I love his voice so much. Oh no, so young, RIP.
God has to take care of his earthen voice's family
He died from prescription meds he was taking for his ankle mixed with alcohol. It was confirmed in the coroner’s report.
His voice is a diamond. RIP Michael.
OMG. this very sad! Glad that he performed this very well. May he rest in love.
This is the best version of this song i've ever heard!

Just to clarify to anyone wondering how he died, it was not from a "drug overdose". He had a blood clot that formed after he broke his ankle. So Sad 😢

This is the sort of music they wrote in the 1980s - brilliant!! It is was all about the song, rather than all about the singer like it is these days.
Thanks for the music.
