yeah you definitely got unlucky with the 3+2 set, the 2+2 sets are a lot nicer. they’re also all being fitted with plugs (finally).
The /9s are so much worse than any other 375, I recommend you almost always move to another unit
Yeah, I
got the 2+2 and it was way better than this looks
To be honest I rode a 375/9 pair from Ramsgate to charing cross via dover and icl i found it comfortable
@@indegenyafurika I got one from Margate it was good!
The dash 9s are the only variant of 5 to have 3+2 seating throughout. The other 4 variants have 2+2 seating and big tables at facing seats. Very Unlucky :(
Love the tsw3 comment so true

'They were advertising Train Sim World 3 Here, which you would be sure to buy if you want to get ripped off for the exact same game again in a couple of years'
best quote from Dylan by far 🤣
i was screaming YESSSS!!!! when he said that
Pretty good summary of Train Sim World... At least the original Train Simulator just got an update every year, without needing an entirely new game. I wish more companies would stop doing this "buy a whole new game every year at huge cost" style approach.
So true. And I was stupid to buy it again 😂😂
@stevehornsby7727 luckily it is on Xbox Gamepass so for me I didn't have to buy the game. And tsw4 was essentially leaked by a reliable source. Dovetail Games are a bunch of greedy bastards
I was lucky enough to travel on two of the 2+2 sets with full sized tables earlier in the week from Ashford to Folkestone and back and was quite impressed with them - certainly far better than the units on the King's Lynn line the week before - both can be said to be longer distance commuter services.
Not been on that line to Dover since 2001 when the slam door stock were still used and there was still a shuttle to the ferry port.
I get these every day to school, and they’re lovely, however, always cancelled
I have a choice travelling into London of HS1 or conventional to London Victoria. For me it boils down to what part of London I need. I don't think there's a lot in it and if you don't get lumbered with the 375 9s then it's a comfortable ride.
Looks like you lucked out with this particular Class 375/9. When I did my day trip from Kenton to the Romney,Hythe and Dymchurch railway, I travelled both ways between St.Pancras and Folkestone General on a Javelin unit.
I noted (with some alarm) that the bays of four in the end coach of your train lined up exactly as most folk would hate with a pillar adjacent the table instead of a proper window view. Thankfully, the bays lined up properly in other coaches.
I've finally caught up with your most recent presentation, so it's been a great lazy day for this retired gent. Best wishes for your next presentation.🙂
A most interesting video to watch, thanks.
The Class 375 Electrostar are still very nice trains since they were manufactured by Adtranz/Bombardier (now Alstom). And the Class 377/5 are also very nice which they were used on Thameslink and were replaced by the Class 700. I have been on the Class 375 couple times and they do look really nice in blue livery.
Unless cost was an issue, I'd probably just take the Javelins on the High Speed sections.
edit: Given that the HS1 option was only £2.50 more than this one, and was about 30 minutes quicker, then yes, I would go with the HS1 option.
Me too...but having made 2 recent trips to the coast on Javelins and had to stand all the way there and back ( once to Dover, once to Margate), I might opt for the nasty, lumbering Electrostar instead
The Javelins also skip the stations between Ashford and Folkestone so they are quicker on 3rd rail as well.
But that extra cost to some people may make them skint
Hi there Dylan, if I was you, I want have walked to the next unit that was coupled to the front unit and bagged a table of four. The Compin Sirius seating is far superior to the seating in the Class 375/9 batch! There might even be increased leg room in the bay of four seats grouped around the full size table.
You wana give us your postcode and door number while your at it? 🤣
Great trip. Hope this train can fitted with plug socket.
Incredible how much traffic has dropped to London Bridge.
Hi Dylan, Id just like to talk about the overall video,
I just want to mention that i use these trains quite often to go to places from Folkestone central.
Firstly from the title "slow and disappointing alternative to the javelin" - You paid £7.25 for an advance single ticket which in my opinion is fantastic from dover to waterloo even the non-railcard option of £11, As you mentioned in your video hs1 is 30 minutes faster, that is true 100% but some people will pay that extra to get there quicker or they need to go to St Pancras for a reason but then if you needed to go to waterloo from St Pancras you would then need the tube which would add on to the £7.25.
Secondly I would've appreciated if you had compared/reviewed other ticket types within this journey to get another persons point of view (only because you made a point of view from yourself), such as me paying a same day ticket from Folkestone to Ashford costs £9.30 off peak day return (non-railcard).
I understand 100% this is all from you but its just how much negativity you have put towards the class 375 when they aren't even bad trains.
6:15 the GoPro bashing the mirror 😂
If you sit behind the cab sections of the train there’s 2-2 seats
He sat there so I think he would know that.
@@TeamasTwiffletonI think he meant the 375-9s because now southeastern declassified all First class
Love streamlined shiny blue exterior except blunt end rear car..
Good video, Dylan.
Majority of the class 375 have plug sockets installed
Just to mention some of the trains on this route are different. Often go on this line and on my last trip Sevenoaks to Folkestone and there where plugs for charging your phone. HS1 end at Ashford, from there on to Folkestone and Dover its just a normal services and runs on the main line rather than the Eurostar line. As someone else mentioned tickets on the slow trains are far cheaper than HS1. Greeting though from the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover.
This is British Railways in 2023 - you are supposed to be excited and pleased that your train is actually running and that you can find a seat! Let alone a train that actually arrived and departed on time!
This vid came out on my birthday
You got unlucky. The classic 375/9s were designed for outer suburban routes. The other subclasses are 2+2 throughout and they are the trains designed for the longer mainline services
Great trip report Dylan
Way back in 1980 I rode the train right to the Dover dock for the ferry to Calais. Does the ferry still exist, served by the train?
You younger folks are always demanding a place to charge a phone, but is it really necessary on a journey this short?
Yes it's necessary if you need to access tickets or railcard passes on your phone (as its increasingly difficult to get these in person with ticket offices the way they're going)
Good point, thanks. It is just annoying that the phone needs to be charged so often that this infrastructure is necessary. Cheers.
The problem with the the 375s is that they run on slow lines. Not enough of their tracks are consistantly high speed. 100mph Is rare on southeastern . But because 3rd rail sucks, the acceleration is rather poor after 80mph.
The thing I never understood was why didn't they just made the seating organisations like the 377s? Where the front end coaches have the good seats with big tables, then have the middle ones have the 3+2 arrangement?
Boa Dylan lindo trem show
I love to sit above the motors.
The 375/9s (3+2) are mostly used on this route as I believe its the busiest mainline route during peak. The 2-2 formation sets are commonly seen running to Hastings and sometimes London Charing Cross to Margate.
Also during summer the 3+2 sets are commonly seen running as 12 coach sets from London Victoria to Ramsgate via Margate as they get very busy during peak and off peak.
What I don’t understand is why during the last refurbishment they didn’t get plug sockets then?
Anyways hope you at least enjoyed the 100mph blast between Ashford and Tonbridge, nice to finally see a review on the Southeastern Mainline.
A `homely feel` to a train toilet is not an expression one hears all that often !!
Just 27 of the 112 class 375s have 2x3 seating and they do not form the majority of SEML services. Most common around peak times they operate on all long distance Southeastern routes either as additions to 8 car 2x2 sets or as complete 12 car sets.
It’s just the dash 9s that have the 3+2 seating and there are 27 dash 9s
It's interesting that Southern's, very similar, Class 377's have recently had power sockets fitted, yet the Southeastern Class 375's haven't, yet
Some of them have, they are in process of having them fitted
And southern 378s have them
Too
@@Wombleofwimbeldon last I saw the 378's, none of which are with Southern, but London Overground, at the very least didn't have power sockets
Most 375s have been fitted to plug sockets. Not sure when this video was recorded though but all the 375s I had last Sunday had them.
@@kentbustravels101 maybe it's luck of the draw
IM SO HERE DOR THE TSW3 SLANDER
Nice trains 3rd rail look much better than over head were having them in South wales looks messy
I'd never really thought about that, but you're right.....
6:13 I don't see a point in having toilets on a regional train. Intercity probably, but not when you're travelling from Sevenoaks to London as it's very close. It's also impractical as it takes up space that would otherwise be useful for more seats. If you need the toilet, pop into one before going!
these trains go further than London to Sevenoaks. This service goes London to Dover or Ramsgate. Takes many hours, so toilets are useful.
just to note that the 3+2 are only on the /9 sub class so the chances of getting a better seats is much better on say a /8 sub class
but I cant be sure
I mean they are domestic services and also I spot these units whenever I’m trainspotting so yea
I am not sure what I enjoy most, l ] the scenery, the tour if the cars, your honest and sometimes quite frank opinions plus
Mrs. Dylan's Travel Reports occasional smile .I took extra notice of the carriage suspension, specialty the wheel spacing vs. Americas. Smoother than our antiquated ones Thank y'all
Hi Dylan
What cameras do you use
You’ve been showing the baby change facilities, hinting at something?
I hope they get replace by class 387s in the future
7:12 train sim world 3 or tsw3 as some people call it. It is one of the best games, in my opinion, as well as train sim world 2 or tsw2. It was also a good game last year. Southeastern was the first route realised on the game.
Agreed
Train Sim Classic is 10x better in my opinion. Actually feels like I'm driving a train, compared to Train Sim World 3. Feels very arcade-ish. Only thing I'll give to TSW3 is that the visuals are stunning, especially with Mods and the fact you can freely move about in a train/stations.
Been playing train sim from its inception in 2018 from ps4 and now on ps5.
Used to also play train simulator back in the day on pc
❤
Hey Dylan! I don't comment much but I always watch... I have a vlog planned on this train and the Javelin coming soon, in Dutch, so you aren't going to understand even a tiny bit, where I travel in the Javelin, the 375 with this 3+2 seating and the 375 with the 2+2 seating, and I have to say the 2+2 seating are MUCH nicer than the 3+2 wich is in the English loading gauge REALLY crammed. But they're allright, the Javelin is okay too but the single unit I got was a bit too tiny... :) thanks mate cheers!
Very interesting to see this journey as it's many years since I've been to Dover, and not familiar with the 375s.
Was relieved to see that the "other" unit on your train had 2+2 seats throughout; I might be showing my age but I think that a journey of 70+ miles is far too much for having to cosy up to strangers in 3+2.
Other comments here give some reassurance that travel in the SouthEast isn't all that bad, though the view of the 70(?) commuter unit you passed wasn't at all encouraging.
Have you done a run between Victoria and Gillingham on a class 465 assuming they'll be replaced initially by 707s and then whatever the new trains SE have ordered will be
Is Waterloo East the only UK station with letters for platforms??
St Pancras - Thameslink has A and B Platforms.
The slow service is not only slower by over half of the Javelin service, i also goes through some of the most boring scenery to be had. I always take the Javelin whenever I go to Folkestone.
🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🙄🙄🙄🙄
What was you expecting DUBAI ??? The straights of Gibraltar ??? Out ya window !!! It’s KENT !!
@@Wombleofwimbeldon The "straights" of Gibraltar? You can see them from most windows on any train journey.
Unlucky to get a 375/9.. The rest of the 375 fleet is actually pretty nice.
Southeastern have slowly been modifying their Class 375 Electrostars to have a socket at each pair of seats whilst removing the first class sections from these trains, including the 3-car units. I don't know if the high-density 375 9xx units have that modification, though. That would mean having one socket for up to 3 seats, so it probably doesn't work with these units.
A solution to that problem would be to replace the high density 3+2 seats with more modern and more comfortable 2+2 seating.
@@TheSpotify95 I agree with you. I am not keen when they do have these high-density units running. There are 27 high-density units vs. 85 units with 2+2 seating (10 units being 3-car).
Just put them under the seats like the class 800s.
Do you know if the Eurail Pass is still NOT accepted on HS1?
I took it to Rochester and back on my pass without knowing this, but no one checked my ticket.
You wouldn't catch me dead around that line, seems like its even worse now with the chavs than the last time I went there x.x
I'm an American and need to ask anyone out there, what is a chav?
@@John_Fugazzi chavs are like discount ghettos
@@John_Fugazzihavs are just wannabe gangsters who often wear loads of makeup and live in council blocks. They also wear puffer Jackets, it's a trend

@@keithparker1346 Thanks.
Do any of Southern/SouthEastern's trains have plug sockets? I don't expect them, but then, I'm old enough that I assume they are not the norm; you younger ones grew up with them on many routes!
I think the older Electrostars don’t have them. But the newer ones do.
The High Speed trains do. Some of the slow speed trains do, some don't.
The trains going to tonbridge weigh a ton+ more then anyone going through it
Use to live in Maidstone on the Ashford line
Class 375 make me full asleep
Hi Dylan and Mrs Trip Reports! A little request - when you join a train like this at Dover Priory, I presume the service originated elsewhere. When this happens, can you tell us where the service originated please? Ta! Still enjoy your trip reports!
Most times trains start at dover priory or at most ramsgate
3:32 Wonderful lunchbox. Good one. I need that bento should I be there.
Actually on some 375's the First class still remains
Dylan - "This is the DfT - will you please, immediately, stop referring to WiFi connections on trains in the UK.
It is clear passengers don't want or need them and the DfT are actively encouraging TOCs to abandon then - not that we can direct TOCs you understand."
😎
The Dover station was surprisingly small and looked like it needed an update. It was a splendidly clear day with lots of sun, hopefully not too hot.
pretty unfortunate it was a 3/2 configuration. Personally, I don't find it to be common within the longer distanced journeys . It would’ve been more interesting to see your view on the 2/2 configuration sets
Only the /9 variants of the Class 375 have 2+3 seating; if you get unlucky & get a pair of /9s, I'm sorry
The only time i'd take the 375s over a Javelin is for London - Medway Journeys, as the difference is not much (only 7-8 mins) for a decent saving in Money, plus I find Victoria much more convinent than St Pancras as well.
Brilliant!
I much prefer the rolling stock with 2+2 seating, and a proper full size table. These run from Dover via Canterbury to Medway then on to London Victoria, joining (together to form longer trains) at Faversham with services from Whistable & Margate/Ramsgate etc. As for journey speed, the Javelins via Ashford are quicker, but going in the other direction the Javelins via Ramsgate on to Margate/Whistable and Medway then St Pancras are slighly slower in journey time, with an intermediate cost price. Ultimately, if price is what matters use the older class 375 services, but if speed matters use the Javelins. But, there is another consideration too, based on which station in London is more convenient, for South London, Victoria, Waterloo, Charing Cross & London Bridge then use the services seen today, but for Stratford and St Pancras the Javelins will be more convenient. To conclude, lots of considerations and no bad options. Dylan's headline is a little unfair.
You really should have got the 2+2 seating ones they are really nice and have tables plugs and armrests
You travelled on a 375 which has not had the plug refurb yet. Ive travelled on a bunch and they have plug sockets
Hey Dylan - hope you and yours are well. Can I but into ask a couple of questions. I'm coming up to Huddersfield to see a gig in September and I need some advice on timetables. Neither LNER or Avanti are offering weekend tickets for the 23rd/24th Sept and beyond but are offering a few weeks of weekday tickets. Any idea why this might be - I'm guessing a new timetable but don't understand the few weeks of being able to buy weekdays but not weekends. Hope that makes some sense.....
Sometimes from Victoria/Charing Cross you'll have a class 465 as the service to Dover Priory
how often?
@@cbawitlife generally I've seen it during afternoon rush hour when I worked near there and going back towards Kent

Nice video I don’t like this train either and I’m first
Southeastern are introducing plug sockets to their electrostars, theyve recently started adding them so only a handful have them so soon theyll all have them
Great video Sir
7:08 Nice little jab against Dovetail Games and their Train Sim World lineup of games! I have Train Simulator Classic, which will be fine for what I need. There are still many routes/locos/trains that I need to buy anyways, so that'll keep me going.
7:32 1.0 - 2.0 Mbps isn't much nowadays, but as you say, is far better than a lot of other rail operators will give you. There are some operators that will easily give you < 0.5Mbps and some where you're very fortunate to even get a connection.
I remember and being on Network Southeast
The "slow-speed" service is intended to serve the intermediate stations. The old non-stop Waterloo to Ashford trains no longer run.
Not just south of London as that 3rd rail is used on the Merseyrail system around Liverpool.
Southeastern Class 375
I have TSW3 and its great. Just like the old ones.
Yep, using these for my commute from Dover to Ashford work work... utter rubbish
Ah the commuting experience where you pay basically double for a cramped ride
I'd deliberately catch an earlier train out and a later train back just to get the Javelin by the end of it
Did that trip in 1989 & 1990. Its worse now than it was over 30 years ago. Says a lot for British progress, doesn't it?
Slower only because they want you to use the faster Javelin services
hi dylan, just wondering if you could do a video starting or ending in newcastle. thanks

On my way back to Peterborough from kingscross my train was cancelled then the one after I eventually got the 8pm train 🚂 but LNER refused to give me a refund even though I got back to Peterborough over an hour late
Train companies are notorious for not giving refunds. My flight with BA was cancelled and of course I couldn't make the train (East Midland). Despite obvious proof they refused to refund.
@@telemachus53 they said my train arrived on time but it was not my train network rail will have to pay LNER a fine as it was down to the overhead lines between York and Darlington
And this has what to do with a not quite refurbished 375 between Dover & London?

7:11 LOL I mean it’s not a bad game by far but everything is way too expensive
Instead of that Kassel-wurzburg route, should have done WCML
I do love the livery se came up with.
I love driving these on tsw2&3.
I was supposed to be getting in with se for a train driver position but previous covid issues are still affecting the applicants, so i guess im sticking to bus driving for now😔
Southeastern are retrofitting plug sockets to there 375s I hate the high density seating
My speed AP on my phone had this class of train briefly touching 105mph although only for a few seconds. 😉
As often, I gave up watching your film because of the endless adverts which have no relationship to me or my lifestyle. The programmers who decide on these ads obviously have no idea!
Get a 2+2 one
The 3rd rail pick-up is the *ONLY* form of electrification south of London
???? - what is all that OHL down Ashford way then? Or is Ashford now north of London 😎😎🤣🤣
A$$ backwards tech for a non-underground/subway should be panto.
Great Western Mainline OHLE my guy?
No it isn't. High Speed 1 down to the Channel Tunnel uses overhead wires.
What about merseyrail, they use 3rd rail
For such a, normally, high density service, I think the government should be looking at a total refurbishment and realignment of the line infrastructure to allow for wider loading guage of rolling stock, as in continental Europe, to make it a little more comfortable to travel in a 3+2 seating configuration. This should also be looked at with other high density and frequent use corridors in the UK., i.e., Manchester / Leeds. etc. Great vlog, though. 😊.
Southern is getting class 375s in the future
How do you know that. Unless you mean Class 377/5 to be cascaded from Southeastern to Southern.
