- A huge deal has been made about the Apple iPhone 15 Pro’s durability and other aspects but I returned my device because I was not happy with its camera performance, especially for the type of lens I use. I found 2X zoom on the 15 Pro to be notably worse compared to the 14 Pro across a range of different lighting conditions and I just wasn’t happy with it. For those who appreciate the upgrades, the 15 Pro may be justified but even as a tech enthusiast, justifying it over the 14 Pro is difficult!

I upgraded from XS Max. That’s the way to do it. Yearly upgrades are pointless. At minimum 3 year cycles now.
I’m not necessarily a iphone head, but i got a 7 from Walmart like 3 years ago after an android pissed me off. A year later almost after i broke it i got a 12 pro, and almost 2 years later i just bought a 15 pro max yesterday. I’ll probably stick with this one for a while cause i really wanted the pro max.
This. I had an IPhone 3GS (excellent phone btw) and upgraded to the LG G series phones while they were still around. Android kept getting more restrictive and less advantageous so I finally bought the IPhone 11 Pro Max.
The IPhone 11 Pro Max was such a good phone, so incredibly comfortable as a touch-screen device that 3.5 years later, I finally broke it and updated to the 15 Pro Max… which just feels like an upgraded 11 Pro Max to me.
It has to be said that the IPhone XS, 11 Pro Max, and IPhone 12 Pro Max are still absolutely killer phones.
They just don’t have the latest cutting edge technology that most of us demand 😅

I jumped from an iPhone 11 to the 15 Pro Max and I’m loving it! Not a big fan of changing phones every year when a new one comes out, I rather wait 5 years even until a good upgrade comes in. 🎉

I had an XR and got a 14 pro recently. Massive upgrade in every aspect. Cameras, screen, battery, performance, higher refresh rate and the always on display.
You are the proof of apple durability but the prices of Iphone 15 are overrated they stop putting their clients needs and they just want to earn money without caring about their clients loyalty.

To be fair, there isn't enough innovation anymore in the smartphone market to justify yearly upgrades. The market has matured (and many innovators in the space died in the process, hats off to LG, HTC, Huawei etc) That's why software support is a bigger factor. We should keep our phones longer.

Even on the android side of things, phones have become so expensive and upgrades so small that it makes more sense to upgrade every 2 years at the soonest. No S22 Ultra user needed to upgrade to the S23 Ultra (unless they got an exynos s22 but that's another can of worms)

Sorry but titanium shouldn’t be chipping or scratching like it does - the “titanium” they use needs a tear down as on the ultra 2 watch - you can scratch the faux titanium with aluminium - shouldn’t be possible (where the Al comes off with no scratches whatsoever and it’s not even hard anodised).
Pure titanium is expensive - come from me when a mass spec / GCMS / electron microscope analysis tears down the “titanium” Apple refers to…majorly misleading and deceptive. I forget US customers have the most trash consumer protections in the world.
Come to Australia - or read about the Australian Consumer Law - there is no more robust federal consumer protections than we have here. Express warranties from manufacturers are paltry / completely superfluous here. If you purchase a product that is marketed in a misleading and deceptive way - companies get fined, and consumers can choose to get refund credit or compensation for loss of value. Merchantable quality is also another phrase we have here - which means the goods must be commensurate with their purpose, price point and expected lifecycle. A 2000 aud pro max has implied warranties here that would last for at least three years beyond express bs manufacturers warranties.
Not fit for purpose in the OP’s case is another ground - his purpose in photography was to utilise the 2x optical but they screwed it up. If in 🇦🇺, you never need to rely on warranties from companies because they are always worse than our statutes and protections provide.
3 years! 3 years is the sweet spot for upgrading an iPhone.
You can see some improvements and you can still get something for your old phone.

Honestly switching over from the 11 pro max to the 14 pro max was my best decision I now had my phone for two months now and I’m happy I didn’t wait to get the new iPhone for this year. Plus the color choices for the pros this year is sad 😞.

That value isn't based on the phones quality or performance. I see last years IPhone go for 60% the price of an IPhone 15, and no way that the current IPhone is 40% better than the Iphone 14. For me that amount is £250 a year, and that takes into account all expenditures from the phone, cases, chargers, other accessories and screen protection, a value I have deduced for my flagship use case since 2015. Doesn’t include any external expenditures like network contracts, just the hardware, but does include any cashbacks or deals I am able to obtain.
I intended to use my previous iPhone 13 Pro for four years (which accounted for everything I mentioned above), but I received a great trade in value of £615 for the phone to upgrade to the 15 Pro, which I accepted because it was below my personal depreciation value for the 13 Pro, for a quality of life upgrade across nearly every category apart from scratch resistance. I use a case anyways so scratch resistance is a small factor to deal with for me.

Not true. It actually has a coating on it just like all the other colors that does scratch, and leave permanent marks.

I upgraded my phone from a Samsung Galaxy 8+ to a iPhone 14 Pro Max this past August. Truth be told I remember the employees at the Apple Store trying to convince me it was best to wait until the new iPhone 15 came out the following month. My heart was already set on the 14 pro max and to be honest I love this phone so much! I felt like the 15 wasn’t gonna be a big leap in technology. Boy was I right. I love my stainless steel phone because the quality is noticeable right off the bat. The picture quality on the 14 pro max is amazing and I don’t plan upgrading until 6 years from now. ❤

What I don’t understand is how people can actually hold the iPhone or any model of iPhone in their general hands. Every iPhone I’ve ever had without the case will always slip out your hands and you have to hold it at the very bottom and also at the very top just to type

The iPhone 15 Pro barely has any titanium, it's only a titanium "coating".
It's like buying a 18k gold chain, but it's really a steal chain coated with 18k gold. Not something I would call a 18k chain. Apple is lying and telling the truth at the same time...
The rails on the side are made of real grade 5 titanium. There is a coating on the rails, but that's not titanium.

Some pople expect so much more every year for their phone, phones are not designed to be upgraded every year, OP experience proves this point.
The upgrades are incremental but upgrading every 4 years or 5 will be more of a jump in my opinion.
There’s no 2x Lens in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro. It’s a 2x 12 MP crop from the 48MP lens - so could be a software issue on the iPhone 15 Pro instead of it being a hardware one.

Lesson: Don’t upgrade from 14 pro to 15 pro
Feel you man, I returned my 15 pro max and went back to my 13 pro. Only thing I really miss is that super light weight and that big ass screen lol. Other then and oh yea the dynamic island not really much in all honesty but definitely a super cool phone. For me it was only cuz the dumb ass at the phone store set it up as a next up upgrade instead of a trade in deal… so only real way to fix the problem was to return the phone due to me not being able to get my 1000$ credit. Really annoying but like i said the 13 pro has been doing me solid the past 2 years so I’m just gonna wait till the 16 and who knows maybe this was a blessing in disguise also this 13 pro is paid off so no worries bout a monthly payment on a phone.

If your 13 pro still works well and PAID OFF, why upgrade? We do the same stuff on every model that we buy and these phones can last a good 7yrs. I still use the galaxy s8 right now and I am typing this on iPhone 12 mini. Older phones still can get the job done as long as the apps still works on them. Some people upgrade for no reason.

Iphones do not even last longer because there are a lot of bugs, glitches and breaks so easily. Apple iphones support 5 years, but reality iphones are not even gonna survive in 3-5 years.

I kinda expected an ending like: and this is the reason why I switched to android.
I switched services and got mine with activation for $355, the big thing I noticed from the 14 pro and the 15 pro is the 15 camera is slightly better, but the usbc is a big step, it’s universal and fast, maybe not a big charge ring difference but I definitely noticed it connecting to my head unit in my car a lot faster
My phone upgrade is every 5 years.. so I can really feel the worth of updating. I am having the 12 now.. so, I will wait for the 17. Lol

I think the 15 Pro Max was better for people making the jump from the iPhone 12 and older jumping from the 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max you most likely won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. But I try to upgrade every 2-3 iPhones

Just don't upgrade every year, smartphones are kind peaking, so that upgrades per year are minimal compared to older phones, just upgrade every three or four years and you will be satisfied with the upgrades.

Went from a 13 pro max to a 1tb 15 pro max. I love how much lighter it feels and it also fits better and more comfortably in my hand. Also that Action button is EVERYTHING! I currently have it set to turn my car on! Your loss. Because that 5x zoom is also amazing for taking pics of people and pets. I thought my 13 pro max was the best iPhone I’ve owned but nah. This is a major upgrade! Worth the 1700$+!

My friend still using the iPhone 5s and it's still alive and kicking she's poor and no money for upgrades so all smartphone lasts a lifetime depending on the usage. I'm planning to upgrade to 15 pro from 13 pro max this November as 15 series will be available in that month at PMC. I've seen and heard people's feedback about the overheating issue and prone to easily shattered back glass on the 15 series but I am determined to get one soon.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and have been wanting to go back to Apple for a while but nothing for Apple, Samsung, or Google excited me until the 14 Pro. Thought about getting the 14 Pro until I saw that the 15 Pro has USB-C. Everything feels like a major upgrade for me. Gonna get the 15 Pro soon.

Same S8 and looking at the 15 pro, 15 pro max. I do a lot of pictures but I hear the pro camera's x3 is better then x5 camera since the x5 has to rely on digital feedback and portrait to get the x5. But might do the pro since it's less money and be fine missing out on the x5 camera.

I had the iPhone 15 in black and I needed up re selling it and switching back to my 13 mini just because it didn’t seem that much different besides the battery life. But I can live with it. 🤷🏽♂️

15 Pro and Pro Max do have a faster charging speed, but the regular 15 is still running on usb 2.0 so its the same speed as the lightning port

Except the camera and cinematography, I regret like anything. Battery heats even for charging. I just have WhatsApp installed and I don't see any reason why it will heat. By ten minutes, heat is unbearable. Speaker doesn't even sound good to me. Battery lasts shorter than my vivo phone. Why do we pay so much and can't even enjoy basics.

I'm about to upgrade this month after 5 years. I've had the iPhone X for 5 years now. I'm hesitating between the 15 pro and the 15 pro max. Which one should I choose? Initially because this is a long overdue upgrade, I wanted to go for the latest so the pro max but I've been watching so many reviews and the are mostly all saying that it's a waste of money. They say it doesn't really have sufficient improvements compared to the 15 pro to justify the price and that it's so big that it's uncomfortable to hold etc.... As someone who has it, what do you think about all that? I was so sure that I wanted it but all those people made me second guessed myself and think that maybe I should get the pro... I don't known I'm lost.

This years iPhone 15 pro max is absolutely stunning. It's design is slightly changed and I noticed it a lot. It lighter and trimmed off the sides width wise. It's bezels are reduced. I love it over the 14 pro max to me its a must have

I love stainless steel. It’s my favorite man-made alloy. Durable, timeless and i personally love how it weighs.
What’s crazy is that they haven’t updated the cameras. I have the 15 regular and the camera sucks still. Almost a year later. Too much HDR too

Best phone I have ever owned. I moved over from Android or the S23 Ultra to Apple and it’s running buttery smooth.
I kept my iPhone 14 Pro as well, but mostly for the fact aesthetically the Space Black Stainless Steel finish is a identical match to its Series 8 Apple Watch counterpart.

Why i returned the 15 pro: because im using the 14 pro and it’s common sense that most companies even samsung don’t include very significant upgrades every year now.
Everything you said plus more. First time I ever said there’s no need to upgrade. Nothing justified an upgrade, the usb c is nice, but not for me to have to spend money to upgrade all my accessories to accommodate it. Apple needs to chill on the every year thing and really go hard into making a phone worth the upgrade. 14 pro max is a killer phone and have had 0 issues.

The port IS DEFINTELY AN UPDATE especially since you can now use fast charging in charge your phone within 30 mins. Another thing is that you now can use one cable and don’t need that chaos of cables ok your desk.
iPhone 15 Pro max is a solid upgrade. My only complaints, when heavy usage in games and some apps, the phone does get pretty hot
Currently using the 14 pro max for over a year now. Probably will used until the next iPhone 17 or 18. The previous last time i used an iPhone was iphone 6 plus and it lasted me 4 years. 😅
I only buy a new phone every 3 to 4 years because yearly upgrades are not worth it anymore
Any of those issues never occur w my 15Pro Max, it’s really a more extensive upgrade compared to other previous iPhones imo

I returned my iPhone 15 pro for an iPhone 15 pro max. Battery was infinitely better on the pro max.
I bought an iphone for the first time and went for iphone 13 256 gb storage option because it was cheaper and the 14 and 15 didn't offer any great updates for me to go for it. Already happy with what ot offers and don't need more

Why upgrade from 14 pro in the first place?
The only reason i got it was because of the charger, the button, and the buttery 120hz display…I originally wanted just more storage but the phone has been great to me

Most of these are valid observations, except:
If you're coming from an earlier iPhone model, particularly the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, you can substantially reduce the price of an iPhone 15 by getting a pretty hefty trade-in value on your earlier iPhone--hundreds of dollars, if it's still in good shape, or you can just sell your 14 outright.
Though the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 Pro models doesn't improve charging speed compared to the iPhone 14 Pro's Lightning port, it's significantly faster than on the iPhone 13 and earlier models. But it's the high data transfer rate of USB-C on the 15 Pro models that's the real difference--it's nice if you regularly transfer larger videos and/or a lot of photos from your iPhone to a computer or an external drive. If you use one of the iPhone 15 Pro models to record high-resolution video, like 4K 60fps ProRes LOG, you need the faster USB-C port, since recording such high-res video on the iPhone 15 Pro models requires you to connect an external SSD or a USB-C flash drive. Stupidly, the USB-C cable included with the iPhone 15 Pro models only supports USB 2.0 data speeds, so a higher-spec cable is needed for faster speeds, like a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable. The iPhone 15's USB-C port also expands your options for connecting peripherals to the iPhone.
So as usual, the choice whether to upgrade depends on whether you need the new features.
I went from iPhone 7 to 12 then from 12 to 15pro, upgrading every year is pointless, expensive and a little arrogant. The differences over 3 years are immense and make it a massive pleasure to upgrade, not a disappointment

I just jumped from an 8 Plus that I got in 2018 to an iPhone 14. The only reason why I did was because my phone screen was struck causing it to have the colored lines on the screen and ink. Other than that it still worked and I continued to use it until I got the new phone a week later. If the incident didn’t occur I would’ve stuck with that 8 Plus until they stopped updating it…or until it blew up.
