Yes you don't need to talk to make an EXCELLENT video!!! And videos like this one are superb without music! I learned and rested while watching you carve. Loved the birds and your deft work. Well done Alec. Bless you!!
Excellent tutorial Alec! Looking forward to try carving a piece of white birch i love that look of hiding under the paper. And paper birch is very plentiful here in Western Massachusetts. Thank you!
green logs dry on fresh air obviously 1 1/2 inch per year. If you carve just green wood can develop cracks . Some guys use Pentacryl or Shellac for stabilizing wood, another carvers use to make their project hollow - from back side they remove wood to leave just 1 to 1 1/2 inch "meat" what lower grain tension during changing humidity and temperature in room during heating season (if you want display your project inside a house). Carving green wood is easier - maybe more enjoyable and good for practising. Fallen birch very fast start to rot - select parts not touching ground
@@KjayCarving one more idea - birch is relatively hard to carving - many guys (include myself) work with local supply wood such aspen or even poplar . Bud I warning you don't try basswood bark - it is very addictive :-))) In the past I found interesting material in Wood Pallets
Hey Alec, ive picked up carving about a month ago. I do however have 1 problem, i simply dont have quality tools. Are there any specific sets/tools you recommend for carvings like this?
He's made a few videos using odd tools like a flathead screw driver, butter knife, and a sharpened toothbrush...... I may be mixing the last one up but anyways

Thank you !!
Bless you too!!
I love the way you begin this carve. You made me feel way more capable. Birds are a peaceful touch. Thank you
SO glad Dusty!!
the pan to ipad face was very funny, but also carving was super neat, and enjoyable to hear all hammering and carving
It is always both a pleasure and a learning experience to watch you carve. Thanks!
Thanks so much Jerry!
Thanks for showing us that, sometimes it's better to find another piece of wood than to struggle on a poor prospect.
Yes, so true!
A work of art
Thanks Greg!
WOW! What a wonderful mythical creature 🌳 😆

Thank you Hugh!
Ficou muito bom! 👏👏👏👏👏

I recently found ginkgo excellent for carving after an arm size limb fell in my yard last summer during some high straight line wind.
That’s cool!!
That old birch looked very hard and dry. Must have dulled your tools.Remarkable outcome!
Very cool but a little spooky looking 😳
Hello, I would like to know what wood you use for your work. They are spectacular, congratulations.
Great
This is very relaxing to watch. How often do you have to stop and strop/sharpen your tools during the carving process?
At least once per carving!

Awesome as always, sad thing is at the first few mins mine looks like that then i convince myself its not going nowhere and turns into firewood.
I do that too sometimes! Just put it aside and come back to it!
Awesome carving! Is there someway to preserve the bark?
You can pull it off and adhere it! Or add sealant to the inside layers
How long did it take?
Wicked!! How long should I leave a fresh fallen birch to dry before carving ??
You can carve them fresh or dry!
@@AlecLaCasseArt thank you Alec

Santa is sleeping in a tree 🎅 🌲
What is the name of the tool you're using towards the end to do like a right sanding of the eyes and nose?
Called a riffler!
I like minimal talking. I like to know what tools you are using.

Flexcut makes a set of full handled tools that seem good! I like Swiss made !
And Stubai

Какое дерево? Внаспле стамеской и молотком работа идет, а потом легко идёт
