Chevy did not stop making these because of horrible gas mileage. This car was giving you 25 mpg highway which is great for a full size sedan. They stopped making it cause they were focused more on building the Tahoe and Yukon at the Arlington plant where the Impala was built. Gas mileage had nothing to do with it since the Tahoe was only getting 15 mpg.

I am retired NYPD and a '95 Caprice 9C1 owner this is a great and accurate video. The '94-'96 GM B-Body aka Impala SS/Caprice 9C1(I guess you can toss in the Buick Roadmaster too) is way more mod friendly with a whole lot more go fast parts available than the Ford Crown Vic and the other Panther platform cars. You can even get complete high performance suspension setups from outfits like SC&C, Speedtech and others. Fun fact: the front suspension is the same as the 2nd Gen F-Body(Camaro and Firebird) designed by GM's suspension wizard Herb Adams. One reason why they handled so well for a "big car". The Highway Units in my Department loved them more then the Vic's. Oh they loved the Vics but the Caprice were faster and had more power. When the Vic was coming into service and these were being fazed out, I was a teenager that got pulled over weekly for alot of stupidity. The leo's were constantly telling us about how they hated the slower, less roomy vic's. I gotta say, the Caprice's had alot more room in the backseets!

@@slickdawg4634 there’s a tasteful way to clone a caprice and not look like a total poser. Best way is to debadge it, change the grill, change the wheels, add the spoiler and lower it a little and come right out and say it’s a debadged Caprice.
Took my driver's test in a 94 Roadmaster wagon with the same motor/trans/etc. That car was a beast hiding behind fake woodie paneling. I then bought a clean cheap 91 Olds custom cruiser with the god awful 305. If it doesn't sell this tax season I'll LT1 swap it with the 0411 PCM.

Not even close to 5k lbs. They weighed 4200. MPG was about 22, not bad. The only problem with the LT1 was the Opti; where you came up with rod failures and such is unknown (dealer for 30 years, specializing in B/D body GM and GM trucks). The trans is a typical auto, they all die around 150k regardless of maker. If you have one that lasted longer you got lucky. ALSO, the only difference between an SS and a 9C1? It's easier to turn a nice regular Caprice into an SS clone than to do it with a cop car. I feel somewhat dumber after watching your vid.
King Pin fact of the matter is, they’re almost all unmolested, 2-3 owner max, usually older folk. i have 95 impala interceptor almost doing 300 000 miles for this summer, daily driver , original engine and transmission , and still powerfull and shift like stick shift so agresive , in second shift scratch tires , the secret is engine oil 10 w40 or 20w50 in sumer every 2600 miles, transmission service oil and filter every 15 000 miles .
I instantly fell in love wit da Impala SS. But da Lumina especially EuroSport & Z34 2 & 4 door variants were beautiful cars. My dad had a brand new '90 EuroSport bought in Nov of '89. I hope to get a Z34 some day & hopefully a '96 SS in turquoise.
So cringy seen people write out the as da
1996 Crown Victorias made 190 horsepower. 200 with the optional dual exhaust.
I have the 1995 impala ss the only thing I had to replace so far is new b.f.g’s but it is my summer only car when you drive it you feel like the king of the road
Great video. You got right to the point and didnt ad loud music like those other guys.👍🏾
Where?
I have the 96 Caprice Classic with the same engine and the G80 Posi. It's an amazing car
do more vids like these on cars bro well needed
Do a video on the 99-04 Ford ⚡
I just sold my 96 imp.. and I regret it already.. looking to buy another one next year 🤫
I've owned 4 of them and currently still own a 94. My 1st one was a black 95 my parents bought me when I was in high school. I'm not getting rid of the one I have currently cause man did they ever sky rocket in price the last couple of years. Seems like every body with one thinks their impala with 200k miles and torn up interior is worth $15k
@@dariog36th Yuup your absolutely right...I'm buying one soon.. Im looking for a garage to keep it in
@@ar41555 the one I currently have I got lucky and found it for $2400. I was willing to pay asking price but the guy who sold it to me was cool and said “no man you gotta haggle, take for $2200”
Good video keep up good work
Getting the caprice and turning it into impala is stupid. I'll never do it, it's not a true impala. Not hating those who do, but it posses me off when I see a caprice marketed as an impala expecting to fool people.
Clones...I love'em!!! Why...cause they look even cheesier when I roll by with 96 Black Cherry SS.
I hate Impala clones like you said they are not a true SS
I have the L99 and I love it, the baby LT1 does pretty good on gas if I dont gun it alot. No major issues with engine, even replaced the optispark with a unit I ordered from Ebay bout a year or ago and it still starts up everytime all the time. I agree with another person here on how GM used the most cheapest plastic interior parts they can muster but with a little fabrication it can be made nice again. Overall these cars are simply the shit when properly took care of
So I was contemplating buying a 94 impala ss, but when I searched up the vin it stated it was a 94 caprice. Is that typical or do you think it’s a clone?
When the Vic was coming into service and these were being fazed out, I was a teenager that got pulled over weekly for alot of stupidity. The leo's were constantly telling us about how they hated the slower, less roomy vic's. I gotta say, the Caprice's had alot more room in the backseets!
I drive a 95 impala ss to school as a sophmore. It has 200,000 miles and runs well still and the only rust on it is the muffler. Its rusted off so its reallly loud
Is it even worth having one now or the caprice? Considering how many of them got the last 20 years have had nothing less than 20” rims on them.
there are still out there not every owner have bad taste in mod.
there is plenty for everybudget. 20-25K for a mint all original low miles. and 3-7k for a good shape one with minor maintenance required.
i bought a 95 Rust free for 3.500. and a Rust bucket beater for 1.500 both WX3 and vin match. both still have a great shape interior and still rocking the factory wheels and paint.
with some light mods like exhaust and 4:10 gear!
my 96 is my DD 3season.
I bought one of your video two years ago man it was trouble electrical problems water pump transmission went out I'm about to sell it because I can keep but boy I love this ❤️ car
Yea man going through that shit rn too
I tried sending it what I can't yet lol
Still working on it
just an idea but look a 1999 mazda b4000 troy lee designs It is a beast of a mini truck 4.0 v6 4wd and 410 gears custom interior with carbon fiber (fake) trim all factory!!!!!! I got one
I remember purchasing an 85 impala for $300 running with a 4.3v6 that smoked like a camp fire. Swapped to the 9C1 drivetrain, and it was like night and day. Only losing 2 times! That’s all I can say💪🏾
Yo I jus got one for $750 up here in Fairbanks Alaska💯 its a beast!
It wasn’t a de tuned corvette motor. The vette had aluminum heads, this had iron. Big difference, and you repeated.
That’s what makes it detuned
Dont for forget it was a two bolt main not the 4 bolt like the lt4 camero and vette
HOGSIDE SJ T.V. Lol man listen cubic inch was 350 on the lt1 camaro Transam Impala ss road masters captives and they all were detuned corvette motor as he stated see in 1986-87 gm made the mistake of letting the grand national out perform the corvette and said that’ll never happen again so til this day they use vette motors in other vehicles they just detune them do research you’ll see
@@zelly1327 no need I drive one that's enough research.95 ss without the floor shifter..lol comment always come from someone who dont have one.you can see in my vids.
HOGSIDE SJ T.V. Then you should know then and I’ve never seen your video but I too have one buddy it’s the 96 and mines is in the floor I have several chevys I don’t make videos but if it was necessary I could
i got 2 96 impalas one stock and one a show car with 24” forgiatos and 8 10inch speakers
I like how this guy is encouraging people to buy a Caprice😂 pull up to a car meet and tell them it’s an Impala SS see what happens.
There is a guy I remember in when I lived in Chicago that used to go to every car meet in a Chrysler Lebaron that had a special edition trim made by Maserati. But this guy would swear it was a Maserati. Had Maserati emblems all over the car, had magazine articles framed explaining how it was made by Maserati. He would wear a Maserati jacket. He would get clowned all the time cause he was trying so hard to say he had a Maserati, even though he just had a Lebaron with a special trim package.
@@dariog36th same thing with the caprice
@@slickdawg4634 there’s a tasteful way to clone a caprice and not look like a total poser. Best way is to debadge it, change the grill, change the wheels, add the spoiler and lower it a little and come right out and say it’s a debadged Caprice.
The Impala's had the same LT1 engine as the Camaro, Trans AM, Firebird with the cast iron heads. The Corvette had the LT1 with aluminum heads
I just bought a black 1996 impala ss from my 84 year old neighbor woman she had hers garage kept. I paid 600.00 bucks for it!!
I’ve got the 96 LT1 caprice which is pretty much the same thing.
I wanted one when it first came out and still do. When I first saw one. My jaw dropped It was a State Trooper chasing down this guy in a Camaro. Now I'm in a Honda Civic doing at least 80 But they shot past me like I was sitting still.
*Certified Hood Classic*
Just finished a 15 hour paint correction on my LS swapped SS
*That DJ SCREW impala ss candy bleuuu*
Bro your actually hilarious lmao
Heck yeah man keep them coming
Not even close to 5k lbs. They weighed 4200. MPG was about 22, not bad. The only problem with the LT1 was the Opti; where you came up with rod failures and such is unknown (dealer for 30 years, specializing in B/D body GM and GM trucks). The trans is a typical auto, they all die around 150k regardless of maker. If you have one that lasted longer you got lucky.
ALSO, the only difference between an SS and a 9C1? The trim, the interior, the suspensions, the gears, rear end width, brakes, tail lights, spoiler.base options... It's easier to turn a nice regular Caprice into an SS clone than to do it with a cop car.
I feel somewhat dumber after watching your vid.
Bro this in wagon version or P71 hopefully in lifetime. 🥰
Don't forget the LTZ caprice
The Caprice LTZ and Caprice SS "the FHP had a ton of then" The LTZ was a ca of the year, from MOTOR TREND.
I had one let it go, my buddy picked up one for 60 bucks off a cab driver. wish I would have held on to either
I watched this after buying an impala
I either want a old Caprice or any year Town Car
Cameron Paul get a roadmaster 94-96
@@ericvervalin4131 too frumpy...like a poor man's caddy....
King Pin fact of the matter is, they’re almost all unmolested, 2-3 owner max, usually older folk. Dealership babied and garage kept, I bought mine 2 years ago and spent 1600, best money spent, and caprice for that price is beat to hell, on poorly fitted 20’s and cheap repairs. Personal experience. But very grandpa for sure
I just saw one today I got the guy's number it has a flat tire and needs brake lines
I gotta 96 gen4 6.0ls. Thats needs a review
I got a 65 convertable a 63SS and a 95SS Impalas. The 95 HAULS ASS.
I have 3.73 rea end with 400 pound EATON posi, and aluminum drive shaft and cold air intake only, and you should see the look at jaw drop of Subaru drivers at the light!LOL
My first car was a retired caprice K9 unit with a 350 ci and yes it will do every bit of 156! But that shit was scary
Bro you can drop that car off of the empire State building and it will not do 156mph. You Speedo was fast that's all and the Caprice police cars are not faster than the crown vics on interstate just speaking from my experience and my racing. .... 156mph lol lol
@@ATL64574 hahaha sorry your hating I got about a dozen different people saying other wise and a crown vic only goes 130 so no not faster than a caprice I know I own a vic now
Ok you got it man you and your 156mph Caprice and yes the crown does top out at 130ish and the Caprice on paper top speed is about 135 to 140 at the most and like I said speaking from my experience the Caprice will come off the line a little faster than the crown but definitely would not beat the crown on the interstate 60 to 130 it's a good ass race between the two of you own a crown you would know this and bro I'm not hating on you Im just speaking the facts stop Caprice will never hit 156 I don't know what rode you're driving on or how many miles you're going you must be on a high speed test track 😂 lol and on top of that the crown is doing it with a smaller motor 281ci vs 350ci ??? and just as fast all love bro no hate just car guys debating PS father's old school drag racer been around cars whole life ford Chevy and Dodge so I'm not being biased towards one and I would love to see you go to a car meet and say you have a stock Caprice that does 156 they will laugh you out of the parking
@@ATL64574 ok bro, all I know is I've own one and that it happened. Obviously there's nothing I can say or do to that would make you believe me. So oh well I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Peace!
Bro you would be likely to get that speed out of a Corvette back then what are you talking about your funny bro
They're THICC AF!!!🤤🤤🤤
Still got one and it’s only got 32,000 and thinking of selling it
My dream car!!!🗣🗣🗣
high power family sedan very good car i drive it is huge hp
It's 10 more than the PI CVPI, which came out years after this
9C1 Caprices are the next best thing. Just give me a 9C1 and some black paint and window tint and I'm good to go.
Fun fact: the 94-96 Buick Roadmaster and the Cadillac Fleetwood had the SAME DRIVETRAIN and frame as this car!
Correction: ONLY the drivetrain, different frame...
Only with different body panels and more luxurious interiors. A low-key alternative to the Caprice/Impala SS. IF you can find them...
The Fleetwood does not have the same frame. Their frame and the Caprice Wagon is the D-Body which is slightly longer than the caprice sedan, impala, roadmaster which is the B-body.
Thank you for the correction. I’m always glad to learn from a more knowledgeable source. Especially if I’m wrong.
I got side swiped no title 1995 Caprice with 4.3 V8. Had change radiator, optnispark it's breeze just watch video on it your golden. Everything is eazy to get to cheap and plentiful. Dash pad are all cracked I bought Bondo mine. Color on out side is dark green gray metallic. Inside gray cloth. I cut drive seat made bucket seats throw junkyard blazer console in. Caprice civilian just needs better shocks and rear end no disc brakes. Spoiler and grill plug hood hole and new old stock trunk emblem. Door panels and bucket seats and rims will kill your budget. Skip everything on list go straight LS swap.
Lmao u remind me of a younger mr regular with a different style not as entertaining but i like u bro
I got cheapest 1995 Caprice I could find for 500 without title, hit in rear quarter with 4.3 V8. Had oil leak at oil filter, cracked radiator, Opti spark had oil in disc reader I opened it. Single exhaust, no rear discs, no posi. But it's mine all mine it's dark green grey metallic with factory gray cloth. Almost forgot full pump was fryed at connection. Get B4U option it's tow package has mechanal fan on 5.7. plug hood emblem, get spoiler and grill baby the shit out car hope insurance company pays you out in order to get real one. Posi is G80 IN TRUNK
Cool video..👍👍👍
It was actually 60 more than the Vic in 94. The 4.6 didn't make 240 til like 03. 😂
Why does this guy sound so out of breath? Did he make this whole video in between eating chicken wings?
I love my 96 impala ss
