You were focusing on their clothing man staaaahp. They are crushing harder then most bands since them. You gotta have an immense amount of talent to play this song. 🤓
lol I was getting irrationally angry when they were laughing so hard. I felt like they were teens making fun of beethoven's wig. lol like you better put some respect on living colours name! they're the GOATs of rock melody.
Congratulations on finally reviewing Living Color! They're certainly not a one hit wonder, but rather one of the most original, and influential bands of the late 80s and early 90s. As a suggestion : Love rears it's ugly head
Love rears it's ugly head is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard! I had the "single" on tape, and I played it so much that it kept breaking. I would tape it together and keep going!
More like a 1 and 1/2 hit wonder. While they have many great songs, they did only just have two songs that ever really got any play and now you only hear Cult on the radio. Still a great and highly influential band that mainly just got ignored by the public.
I used to request this one when I first subbed (back when comments didn't get buried so fast lol). Anyway, I'm only a minute in to the video, but I'm predicting you guys will really dig the groove and the relevant lyrics. I performed a cover of this song in a talent show with a co-worker and totally bombed....too nervous to play it right lmao...but it was still fun!
I did the same requesting this only last week. As an old metal head myself way back in the day I had attempted to learn this tune but just couldn't get it up to speed lol. The internet was in its infancy and if I would have had that kind of resource then we both probably could have mastered it. I wish these guys would have had a lot more success than they did. Vernon Reid is da man. They should have had him play the master himself Jimi Hendrix you need the movie not Mr. Pop Andre Benjamin. What do you think on that? By the way the lead singer tried to break into acting as well and was in Platoon with Charlie Sheen.
No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne. But make sure it's the full version. There's a version about a minute longer than the rest of the search results where the solo was cut, presumably for radio.
Living Colour was WAYYY ahead of their time! They’ve been rocking for years and they’re STILL making music and touring today. They technically could be considered a one-hit wonder; as this was their most popular song. But REAL LC heads know they they have many great songs and albums in their catalogue. Another good one to check out from them is “Open Letter To a Landlord”. VERY DEEP lyrics! Thanks for doing this one, guys! 👊🏾
sommertest1 Thanks man!! I’ve been requesting for many months now to varying outcomes. I’ve learned to only request it on the Rock/Metal videos because the Hip Hop/R&B videos get little to no upvotes. Hope you keep upvoting if you see it! I KNOW they’ll love it if they hear it! THAT BASS LINE AND THE GROOVE!!!
juan willett Owner of a Lonely Heart would be great too but I fear it’s more possible they might have heard it before rather than Roundabout. Both are easily acceptable in terms of mass appeal though
My mom was SUCH a fan of this band. I'm 39, so it's not like she was a teenager or anything. But she LOVED this band so much. She saw them live like 6 times and I just remember her saying how underrated they were. I recognized how underrated they were a long time ago. They were truly put out as a novelty, a "black metal" band. It's terrible, because they were such a phenomenal band. Drums, guitar, vocals, lyrics, they were SUCH a great band.
Yeah if I’m not mistaken, I think Vernon Reid strums his solos. It’s cool and unique, but if you are expecting it to sound like everyone else who picks the notes more precisely, then it’s going to sound sloppy in comparison. It’s just his thing. Also, Andy James is awesome.
@@ReactarooSkidoo As a guitar player, I (and as far as I know all the other guitarists I hung with at the time) never really liked his fills, solos or style; but that's just preference. I respect anyone who can do their own thing and keep it original.
Cult Of Personality and Peace Sells, But Whose Buying, are two very energetic and fun political songs by Megadeth and Living Colour. This band is a representative of the term underrated, because most people heard this song but when they see them in the video, they are shocked to see that a great hard rock band CAN BE ALL BLACK MEMBERS. you know?
They had other songs. Love Rears Its Ugly Head, Solace of You and Leave It Alone,, but they made some great albums back in the day.. They are still active BTW.
Will Calhoun on this just knocks it out of the park. His drumming is both exciting and IN the pocket. He plays the right groove and fill at the right moment, helping to bring this song to its full potential.
Those are wetsuits 😂😂😂 even in high school that shit was hilarious to me! You would need to put a pound of baby powder on to be comfortable at all in those things outside of the water
@@@theclassicmanila-style8435 they tried midlife crisis and were not fans. I think they should go with something like Woodpecker from Mars or Epic and give the band one more chance
Not a one hit wonder but Cult was their most successful commercialized song. Their music style, I would call Avante Garde, is hard to latch on to. The first breakdown in "Time's Up" is effing awesome.
I saw Living Colour open for The Rolling Stones on their Steel Wheels tour in Birmingham, Alabama in 1989. They. Were. FANTASTIC. Cory Glover was a great frontman but lead guitarist Vernon Reid is a BEAST! Also, how about a reaction to Arrested Development’s “Tennessee?” Great song!
This album turned 30 last year, yet holds up remarkably well. Their most recent album, 'Shade', is also very solid. Check out Corey Glover's album 'Hymns', too. Very good.
Been saying that for the longest time. Some people say that they refuse to do anything more Pantera because of one of the members racial views... To that I say - I thought you were free thinkers? You should be able to look past someones personal views and still be able to recognize their talent. Just be the bigger man and look past it.
I got to see them live as an opening band for the Rolling Stones concert back in late 80's. They were/are so underrated! Absolutely powerful musicians. Thanks for the reaction!
I always enjoyed Living Colour and it was great seeing a reaction. Their music is solid, but I forgot about the onesie he rocked in the video...yikes!! 😂😂😂 Other high energy songs from them to check out is definitely 'Type' and 'Elvis Is Dead'. 'Love Rears Its Ugly Head', 'An Open Letter To Landlord', 'Flying' and 'Glamour Boys' are others. Great vid!!
'Flying' is a mellow groove song about one of the people that jumped out of the Twin Towers on 9/11. The band is from NY, and it will be a good song to review on 9/11.
Guys, they were a popular band from '88 to '94 mostly. They toured with the Rolling Stones in '89 which helped them get known by alot more fans. 'Type' and 'Pride' are two of their great other hard rockers, and I think you'll like 'Elvis is Dead' - it mixes rock, funk, and jazz, and has a cameo by Little Richard. :) Thx for this review, and keep up the great work, gents!
What I love about Living Color is that they appeared at a time when hair-bands ruled the day. But then - here came a band that suddenly put the entire rock/metal establishment on notice. And the best part - they were an all black metal band - and doing it even better than the white-boy hair bands. The groove, the energy, the attitude - instantly put so many metal posers of the time to shame. As a bonus, the rest of their album is mixed with a power amalgamation of rock, metal, funk, pop and reggae grooves that showed the wide range of musical talent these guys had. Kudos to Living Color for breaking open the door of rock and metal to everyone, regardless of race, who wanted to express themselves within the genre. Love you guys (and Lost in Vegas for being pioneers as well). 👍
Prince had sort of already done this in the 80s, but ok, yeah, kudos to Living Colour for keeping the doors open. Also, Rick James, The Ohio Players, The P-Funk, Sly & The Family Stone, and, of course, Jimi.
And that was a mistake. They're not a metal band, dude. Their label tried to sell them as one, and that was the mistake. I think they would have had greater success had their label sold them differently. I bought the album when it came out. Cult of Personality, hardly considered a metal song, was the hardest song on the album. All the other cuts were funk and pop. I listened to it one time and then never picked it up again. That kind of genre just isn't my bag. They were very eclectic, a lot like the Chili Peppers and Faith No More, but no one is going to mistake the Chili Peppers for metal. Actual metal bands like Metallica and Megadeth were the ones who put the metal establishment on notice.

I'd like to see your reactions to No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne. The formula of that song has a great baseline, and Zakk Wylde's guitar work is a fine example of early 90s metal.
Start with Three Days, the most epic distillation of what Jane's Addiction was capable of as a group. Their signature, so to speak. One if the few songs that truly elates me.
Watching this reminds me of how awesome Public Enemy was around the same time. I am not sure how well the kiddies today know Public Enemy apart from Flavor Flav's lame reality show a decade or so ago, but you guys should do Bring the Noise or Rebel without a Pause from It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back. Or Welcome to the Terrordome from Fear of a Black Planet.
Yes, this was their best known song. But...there are so many awesome songs on "Vivid" released in the mid latter 80's. Shame on those who don't dig deeper into it. Songs like "Desperate People" and " Open Letter To A Landlord" " are incredible and deserve a listen. "What's Your Favorite Color?" is funky as hell! Funny Vibe, Which Way To America, are musical tour de forces and Vocalist Corey Glover always delivers on the poignant lyrics and soulful inspired performances. They kick ass live too. If you want to have some fun... check out "Elvis Is Dead" on their follow up album "Type". There is footage of them performing it on The Arsenio Hall Show , it was awesome! They were not a one hit wonder "Glamour Boys" from the same release got a lot of air play as well. "Type" the title track off their sophomore release would also get a lot of airplay after it's release. The third album "Stain" produced another song called "Leave It Alone" that would enjoy significant radio play. "Nothingness" also on "Stain is an excellent track as well. A truly unique and incredible group who recently released a live 25th anniversary of Vivid and a studio release "Shade" not so long ago.
@@@ryancheney2761 I saw them in Kansas City play a small outdoor venue called Knuckleheads, they were awesome, after show I went to the merch table where they were selling and signing CD's, picked up their Live 25th Anniversary of Vivid CD. It is worth having in the collection, it really captured the essence of the show I had just seen! Bass player Doug Wimbish highly recommended I get vocalist Corey Glovers new solo CD "The Pledge". I was very glad I did. A solid release indeed. What can you say, Corey Glover is incredibly an gifted vocalist and songwriter. Also, his mid nineties release Hymns is worth having in ones collection. Great songs and inspirational vocal performances abound!
Living Colour is not a one-hit wonder. You can listen to any song from Vivid, Time's Up or Stain albums and you will be equally amazed. I recommend though Desperate People, Funny Vibe, What's your favorite color?, Time's Up, Visions (uderrated song), Type, Pride, Elvis is Dead. Have fun with those.

@@Actiomedey It's not Oprah, it's the Midnight Special from 1973! I'm pretty that was Gladys Knight doing the introduction to the band. It is a fun version but I don't think Jan's solo is as good.
Vernon Reid is a goddamn monster with that guitar. You can't crack on their look too much - it was 1988. Hell, I had a mohawk back then. Not exactly a one-hit wonder. They also had a song called "Glamour Boys" that got some airplay on the radio, but Cult of Personality was their signature song.
Their newer stuff is pretty good. Their catalog as a whole is sorely underrated. I also like the very punk rock philosophy behind a lot of their music, in that they don't shy away from political material. Like their recent reinterpretation of Biggie's "Who Shot Ya?" which is of course about gun violence. They're very much a protest band, not unlike Rage Against the Machine or Lamb of God.
I loved this song when it came out... still do. Certainly still relevant today (and not in a particularly good way). Vernon Reid was an absolute beast on the guitar.
If you want to know the connection between Living Colour and In Living Color. The band sued the TV show for taking their name and logo. They won and the show had to fork over some money. The band won a grammy and performed several times on Arsenio Hall's show. Another song to check out from them is "Love Rears Its Ugly Head". Totally different style than "Cult of Personality" and shows off Corey Glover's vocals even more.
Wrong Dave. Vivid came out in 1988. The t.v. show didn't come out until 1990. The band, Living Colour, had been around since 1984 on the NYC club scene.
About time you guys did Living Colour. They were kinda big when this hit landed. They were one of the few that started introducing groove into hard rock/metal playing. Also, one of the first all-black bands that made it big in this genre (I believe the only one before was Bad Brains? And they were rather underground). You might want to check out "Love rears it's ugly head" as well, different vibe but you will absolutely love it. Also, please do Babymetal ("Karate" or "Catch me if you can" or "Megitsune" or "Ijime Dame Zettai"...). You know you'll have to, sooner or later.
You may never see this request because comments go by so fast but you really need to check out Get the Funk Out by Extreme. You have probably heard More Than Words their ballad. But having watched for some time I think you would really get the groove get the funk out. Totally different song and very diverse band. One of the best guitarist out there Nuno Bettencourt. Even if you don't do it here you should check it out on your own time. I think you would like it
Great song but soooo dated. Then again Queen's Brian May called the guitar solo the epitome of a solo on a rock record, a landmark in rock history. I think Ryan and George would have a lot more fun with King of Ladies (2008). The video is off the hook too.
Get The Funk Out is good but they should check our Rest In Peace from Extreme III. Yeah, it’s filled with Hendrixisms but the song is catchy and I think they’d dig it.
Their whole first album is very good. Glamour Boys was a favorite of mine, and also Funny Vibe, and then there was a Talking Heads cover called Memories Can't Wait, which was to me better than the original (and I really love the Talking Heads). I was in college when this band was happening and I was so psyched for their second album (Time's Up), and also loved that, though there was no one song on it as iconic as Cult of Personality. I bet you gentlemen would LOVE a song on that album called Love Rears Its Ugly Head.
Now that you guys are getting to some outliers, I would highly recommend you try some 'Yes'! They are similar to Boston and they influenced Rush! Please check them out! Some great choices are: - Roundabout - Starship Troopers - Your Move; All Good People - And You and I - America
They should also do some of their more 'pop' songs from 90125 like Leave It or Hold On. I think they'd like those a lot. And of course all of your suggestions are fantastic as well
OMG YESSSS I've seen them live a few times back in the day (1986 or so? with Motley Crue once and again at Red Rocks with Stryper hahaha), they are awesome and Heavy Chains is one of their best songs for sure.
Finally "Cult of Personality." With all that crap Hair Metal in the late 80's we had Living Color to save us for a bit. This album was good, 2nd album was ok. Corey (singer) wearing his yellow bicycle shorts, yea they where a thing back then. Corey was also an infantry soldier in the war movie Platoon with Charlie Sheen. Vernon Reid Killin it with one of the greatest Guitar riffs.

Living Colour were/are monster musicians. I was a big fan back in the day. This is their big hit, but they have several quality tracks. There is a lot of variety in their songs. One song verging on Punk, the next one Pop, then Metal - often with a little R&B or HipHop flavour mixed in. While impressive, i think that worked against them commercially. But, I have been a big fan of their music since I first heard them in 1988 (I was in the 8th grade), and I have bought every album since then. They are still making music today.
Last time I saw Living Colour play was in 2010 down here at Tipitina's in New Orleans and they were probably better than they have ever been...still a great band!
@@BayouMaccabee True! I think he was just trying to be different. But like I said about "cowboys" type clothes, it's just a look, it doesn't mean you've ever even seen a cow or horse!
@@BayouMaccabee That is something I've been amazed by when I've seen recent live videos of them. Glover somehow sounds as good nowadays as 20-30 years ago. Insane.
Plus guitarist Vernon Reid was wearing AXO dirt bike pants... More California action sporty kind of look.
Living Colour - Open Letter (To a Landlord) - Great song & good video
That song is still relevant. Man, it hits you right in the gut. That bass, too.
Gary Brimage yep, these 2 on SNL were f’in incredible
One of there best songs, gReAt ViDeO ~ Open Letter is now more prevalent now than Cult of Personality ..
Gary Brimage great call my man!
For sure!!!
You've got to do Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog. It's a vocal masterpiece from Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder.
Yes yes yes
I’ve been pushing for “Say Hello to Heaven” for a long time.
Two thumbs up 👍🏼. Awesome tune
yes! or say hello to heaven by temple of the dog. rip chris!
Why not go a bit more obscure? Pushin forward pushin back and the weird timing or for walled world with an interesting modal feel. Or go for broke and listen to all of reach down, Chris loved that solo!
As a suggestion :
Love rears it's ugly head
That's a great suggestion. I hope they can.
Oh, I second this entirely.
Yess! That solo gives me goosebumps
My favorite ozzy jam zakk wylde kills it
@@jerredwayne8401 Hell yeah - possibly the best Zakk solo on all of his Ozzy records.
RIP Lemmy Kilmister...and thanks for writing so many great songs
It's time for Faith No More now! :D
Yes!
They did midlife crisis and didn’t like it much.
How could they not do Epic?
Check out Living Colour’s song “Open Letter to a Landlord “
I came here to say this. I can't hear it without belting out the lyrics.
DoubleBB88 yes! Also “Middle Man”, “Memories Can’t Wait”, and “New Jack Theme”
Yes new Jack City by them is a good one too
Living Colour was WAYYY ahead of their time!
@Comicbookstoreguy177 and "when love rears it's ugly head"
hell yeah they are a really good band
Comicbookstoreguy177 YES! Stain is da bomb! My favorite album of theirs.
YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!!

Or owner of a lonely heart
Every video I see this request! Stick with it man!!
sommertest1 Thanks man!!
Time for this to be stuck in my head for another few decades
More relevant today than in 1988. They called it!
And now entering the ring. Your World Heaveyweight Champion of the world! C.M. PUNK!
Justin10k - now exiting the cage with a bruised ego and a reality check, CM Punk!
DueMagician921 -yeah. I made the same exact point in the comment directly above you.
DueMagician921 - the reality check and bruised ego was from getting his ass kicked. That should have been obvious.
I would suggest the Living Colour song "Love Rears its Ugly Head"
Hell yes!
Great track, my band in college covered this song, we didn’t wear the spandex though! 😂
You should "demand" really.
This video was kick ass when it came out and still is 30 years later.
more like lenny kravitz sounds like living colour
Too true. Corey's range is superior than Lennys. Sorry not sorry
Yes their voices are similar.
Exactly!
They're really similar imo
In high school, my geography teacher played this song for us to teach us this lesson. 😎 Glad to see this as one of y'all's reactions. A classic!

Vernon Reid- Lead Guitar. He is fabulous!!
When he "shreds" doesn't it always sound super sloppy? I know some people really like it, but I can't help to always think it sounds that way
@NoiseFeedMusic I know you're not the only one. Maybe he is jazzy and vibey and it doesn't sit well with me? I'm more of an Andy James guy as of late

This band is a representative of the term underrated, because most people heard this song but when they see them in the video, they are shocked to see that a great hard rock band CAN BE ALL BLACK MEMBERS. you know?

Freewill by Rush!!! You guys are GUARANTEED to be blown away by all aspects of it!

The second time around, "Only you can set YOU free."
Open letter to a landlord... by Living Colour
YAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!
Amazing song!
Not a one hit wonder but Cult was their most successful commercialized song. Their music style, I would call Avante Garde, is hard to latch on to. The first breakdown in "Time's Up" is effing awesome.
Time's Up is a pretty killer song, front to back.
Vernon Reid rocks
This album turned 30 last year, yet holds up remarkably well. Their most recent album, 'Shade', is also very solid. Check out Corey Glover's album 'Hymns', too. Very good.
Awesome! Now please, PLEASE do your take on Alice In Chains - Would?

It's a great and deep song. So is The Sleep, but with probably the best solo Dime ever played.
@@SophiaAphrodite Yee, The Sleep solo is the best
"Open Letter to a Landlord" "Elvis is Dead" (with Little Richard!) and "O'logy" (Vernon's take on Charlie Parker's "Ornithology") are all good.
My personal fav: "Open Letter to a Landlord" - seems its even more relevant today
These songs plus Time's Up and Go Away are some good songs. One hit wonder does describe their success though.
"Type" by Living Colour is also good.
Brian Melendy times up
@@morbidlust999 "Type" is a better song but "Time's Up" has some great riffs and a cool transition which we know they both like, so yeah...

As long as it’s the full version.
Bass line by the great Mike Inez, eventually of Alice In Chains
The solo in that song is such an orgasmic musical moment.
Janes Addiction- Mountain Song
brutusvk2 I’ve been requesting JA for months. Keep it up. Maybe they will notice.
Start with Three Days, the most epic distillation of what Jane's Addiction was capable of as a group. Their signature, so to speak. One if the few songs that truly elates me.
brutusvk2 ABSOLUTELY!!!
I think they would enjoy "Stop" more as a first Jane's Addiction song.
Been Caught Stealing is a great intro too
Watching this reminds me of how awesome Public Enemy was around the same time.
I downloaded Shade recently and, wow- has to be the best effort from them in a long time.
@@@ryancheney2761 I saw them in Kansas City play a small outdoor venue called Knuckleheads, they were awesome, after show I went to the merch table where they were selling and signing CD's, picked up their Live 25th Anniversary of Vivid CD.
La Villa Strangiato by Rush, another instrumental like yyz but even better!!!
I think it's the other way around. The show sued the band for the name, so the band hand to change the spelling to "colour" instead of "color".
If you don't like what you see here, GET THE FUNK OUT!
Get The Funk Out is good but they should check our Rest In Peace from Extreme III. Yeah, it’s filled with Hendrixisms but the song is catchy and I think they’d dig it.
They NEED to react to this song... One of the best solos in rock history, Get The Funk Out is incredible
More Than Words would be the Extreme song to listen to if they want a rockin' jam.
You guys are top notch entertainment, I love your channel.. y'all give the best reviews and pick monster tracks for your material
A talking heads reaction would be nice, this channel is so rock focused.
