I never understood the affection people have for Subarus. Then I bought an Ascent and I really like it and would happily replace it with another Subie when the time comes.
I bought the same trim level and color (Safire Blue), it drives great, very smooth actually. If you need more power, you press the S# button. I specifically did not want a turbo with a weakened 3- or 4-cylinder engine, and the wear tear of turbo. This will be a sometimes-daily driver, but mainly for family road trips. The kids love the view from the back seat and it has all of the creature comforts that I need.
Lol. Turbo is not available in any trim on the Forester. Pressing S# will not give you more power but simply make the ratio of "gear shifts" shorter, giving the appearance of more power at least initially. The turbos in the Outback and the older XT Forester were not smaller that smaller... 2.0 vs 2.5 but with much greater HP and torque. This vehicle is underpowered. 😂🤦♂️🤷♂️🙄
@@tommymas1 I am fully aware there are not any turbos for the Forester, I'm talking about how the Bronco sport has a 3 cylinder engine with turbo and the CRV has a 1.5 liter engine with turbo. I used the term power because that's what she said in the video, but I knew she meant more acceleration which the s# provides. I didn't buy the Forester for power, I bought it for value. Better gas mileage for trips, instead of my Silverado Z71.
One good thing on the mechanical side is these now have gone back to the good ol', tried and true thermostat, replacing Subaru's often troublesome Thermo Control Valve.
We love our 2021 Forester. It takes us to all sorts of outdoor activities on roads where Rav4s and CR-V struggle somewhat. It can't match a Bronco Sport Badlands or Honda Passport Trailsport off road, but it's pretty good. Get the 17in wheels, or buy some if you have a higher trim. It really makes the ride top tier. We get 28-29mpg in mixed driving which is better than any non-hybrid option. Among the best do-everything vehicle for small families.
I have a 23 Forester Wilderness. More power than a regular Forester, not underpowered at all. Different gearing. The problem with the Bronco Sport and Honda Trailsport is there AWD system overheats if you push it offroad. Subaru never does that.
I have a 5th Gen Ipod that I purchased in 2007. Loaded with Rockbox Firmware, iFlash adapter, and an SD card with 250gb of flac lossless versions of my CD collection... perfect for an aux port.
I was just curious if you guys could do a video of what would be micah's top 5 cars ( suv and sedan together) for budget 25000-50000 and 50000-75000, the 5 cars that micah is actually willing to purchase. Same top 5 cars for the wife and top 5 cars for kiddo.
Style. Foresters are still one of my favorite SUV/Wagons. 2020 sport, 2022 wilderness, waiting to see if there is a 2026 hybrid wilderness coming. (2018 crosstrek, 1998 legacy gt - I am bias).
It looks fine to me and performs ok too. If you think it’s boring then what is the RAV4? Once it gets the hybrid drivetrain it will sell like crazy. I still think the best Forester was the the 2001 SF model I had and drove for 247,000 miles.
Cargo space discrepancy is from the subwoofer and the moonroof. Can't wait for the hybrid to come out and see how it does. By the time my Solterra lease is done, it should have any kinks worked out if their ev execution doesn't improve. Love the Solterra, but it definitely needs more range, faster charging, and a functional cargo area (vertically). My parents leased a 25 Forester Sport, uncle bought a Touring, and have friends buying a Limited in the coming week or so. Not that they would have done a turbo without the upcoming Hybrid, but it would make sense for the Hybrid drivetrain to become standard on at least Sport and up, if not across the line. Hopefully, once they move production from Japan to the US, we get the good horn too lol.
Best and simplest way to measure cargo space is distance between wheel wells horizontal and vertical from center of wheel well cargo area. Both measurements With and without rear seat lengths from cargo door opening.
To me it became indistinguishable from every other CUV after it's redesign in 2012/2013. Before that it was uniquely Subaru (more so the 1st and 2nd generations than the third).
I recently watched a Motorweek review of the Toyota Land Cruiser and then found their review of the 2025 Forester. LC - 0-60 at 8.1 seconds SF - 0-60 at 8.2 seconds 1/4 mile times were exactly identical. The biggest difference is you could buy two Foresters for the price of one Land Cruiser. They both have 8.7 inches of ground clearance, but the Forester can get 32+ mpg highway where the LC is lucky to get 25mpg. But hey, it’s only your money. 😂
I off road my SK Forester all the time and it's no where near as capable as a new Land Cruiser. Not even close. Even a heavily modified Wilderness edition can not match it.
Oh whatever. Most people won’t off-road a LC. It will be a mall crawler, commuter and grocery getter. For that life, the Subaru is leaps and bounds better…and you will pay UNDER MSRP, unlike Toyota that is guaranteed to gouge you thousands. But again, it’s your money. If you want to 0-60 mph in under six seconds, get the Subaru Outback XT!
in canada the base mode (convenience) have heated seat and xmode. I had a weird hunch that the the sport and limited version was smaller than base mode at the back, this video confirmed it. I currently drive the white forester 2025 Convenience (base) and it does the job! Maybe when the hybrid comes out, i'll go for the premium one with the moon roof (i think in canada it will be called touring)
They said the same thing when the third gen came along. The Forester has been mainstream for a while. The latest look is better in real life than I imagined. It looks more candy than the previous gen by a bit. Just a different look than the previous chiseled look which was pretty good. My guess is Subaru cycles on the look from bulbous to boxy and to chiseled and back. I’m looking forward to the hybrid but cannot wait for the bugs to be worked out.
Want to get back into a Subaru, but not sure I want a manual again for a DD (been driving manual my whole life). I was going to look at the new Forester and sad to see they no longer offer a turbo boxer motor. 180hp just seems so boring for that size of a vehicle. Likely will go back to a WRX in manual (could never get an auto WRX).
Love you guys but Subaru lost me in about 2022 when they decided to chase Hyundai and Kia in the fast fashion trend game. That thing gives me a gag reflex. This is from a guy who has owned 4 outbacks in the past.
How? The Forester is still very plane. The outback is too but its not a wagon and hasn't been for a long time. The WRX has been overstylized for a while though
Subaru buyers do not care about the design. The company knows it. That's why they don't care to make their cars look super attractive. they make interesting updates and that's about it.
Because they are much more fuel efficient since they have theoretically infinite gears. And they desperately needed a way to decrease the above average gas consumption due to the always-on AWD
If this did not show the brand and badge, i would have thought you were advertising the Ford Explorer. Definitely not sure why Subaru would make it look more like a Ford, but then again the American market is what its selling to. Subaru needs to bump up that weak HP to 225-230 as a standard, maybe add a hybrid battery to assist in that bump to help give that instant torque off the line and also improve the MPG. Otherwise its going to get out sold by Toyota, Honda, and Mazda. Only Subaru loyalists will buy and the numbers are decreasing.
I've got a 2021 which is slightly slower than the new model. The Forester is one of slower modern cars. You will have to give up on passing on some two lane roads, but the power will be adequate for most people. I find its other qualities to more than make up for the lack of speed. But prospective buyers should merge onto a highway as part of their test drive.
Looks to me like in an effort to go after rav4 and crv while still being loyal to the Subaru enthusiasts they made an SUV by committee and are stuck somewhere between utility and style/ comfort without being able to stick out……
I sat in one yesterday but I hated the rear seats. My legs must be longer as my knees stuck up too high. There wasn't sufficient thigh support as I found the rear seats were too low for my body shape. I wanted to test drive one but there was a long line of people waiting to drive. So I left.
I never understood the affection people have for Subarus. Then I bought an Ascent and I really like it and would happily replace it with another Subie when the time comes.

Not quite as “dorky cute” as the outgoing model, but still definitively a Subaru. And that’s a good thing!

So cute to see kiddo advertising your sunglasses!

Please do the Crown Signia! Thanks! 😊

Subaru management's stubbornness for not adding a turbo option to the Forester lineup makes no sense.
Daughter drives a 2018. It looks and feels more "Subie" than the new model. Now it's indistinguishable from every other crossover on the road.

Pretty sure that’s a 2012 Ford Edge

You’re comparing a body on frame suv with low gearing to a unibody with a cvt? There’s more than speed and appearances that separate these two.
I off road my SK Forester all the time and it's no where near as capable as a new Land Cruiser. Not even close. Even a heavily modified Wilderness edition can not match it.

None of the subarus with this 2.5 are "speedy". But I can say that launching with a bit of a brake hold makes a world of difference.
I heard there will be a hybrid version released mid year.
Looks like an Explorer who stopped eating donuts. LOL, digging the design though

You posted the fuel economy numbers backwards in the video
The simulated gear switches with CVT only decreases fuel economy, esp non-highway driving. My 2016 without the "shifts" used less gas than my 2023.

This looks slightly better in person. But the hybrid can’t arrive soon enough.
FACTS! One of the reasons why I am waiting until next June for hybrid to be available in USA.

Don't like it for various reasons. No Turbo, and the Ford Explorer-like front end, being a few.
No turbo means you can keep it long term with less fear of expensive things going wrong.

"Subie's Weird Wagon" "weird" Don't you think that way of expressing it is offensive?
Subaru could cut their model lineup in half and nobody would notice. They all look the same.
So is BMW and Audi
