These EV manufacturers should put a certain amount of money each year toward building more charging stations. It doesn't matter how fast an electric vehicle accelerates or how good the range is if can't find a working charger or you have to wait for a charging station to become available.
Rivian R1S owner here. My road trip last month would have been bad if not for the fact I can use Tesla Superchargers. Every EA Charger I went to was backed up with lines for charging space. Ford, Rivian, and now GM can use Tesla Superchargers and these are the only brands I would consider.
I think I’d be ok with charging queues if I was having as much fun as you two! The availability of Tesla superchargers is a game changer and will make a huge difference with this vehicle. I drove 900 miles on the Saturday after thanksgiving and stations were busy but there were plenty of SuperChargers available and typically within a few miles of my planned stops.
What a fun roadtrip video! You two have great chemistry, feels like you're old friends! The castle looked kind of crazy and very impressive, seems well worth a visit.

I've never had to wait to charge, no crazy apps or swiping cards and hoping things work. I just plug in my Model Y and it starts charging in seconds. Even more simple than using a gas pump.
The only sense in which this could be true is that there are more vehicles on the road competing for charging. Because objectively there are more DCFCs installed now than ever. Reliability? Always been bad, not any worse now.
@@mowcowbell although I've heard from some Tesla owners that Tesla charging has gotten worse for them, only because the charger network has opened up... so they've had to wait due to blocked chargers from non Teslas charging, or stations being a lot more occupied than they had been in the past.
I'm pretty old and still remember gas stations being much fewer and farther between, and remember waiting in long lines, most of the day, in the early '70's, to fill up gas, and remember gas stations were all pretty tiny, with no convenient stores. EV stations will get better and far more of them, in the very near future.
EV charging in public are for people who have a lot of time on their hands. Someone with an EV should keep track of how much of their life they are wasting on waiting for a charger and/or their EV to charge.
In the previous video, Roman left the van in Chicago. My question is, how did you get it to Boulder? Where is that video? Never have any charging problems in my Tesla. Supercharging works perfectly 100% of the time.

Access to Tesla superchargers will be available to Volkswagen in 2025. Just need to purchase the adapter which already exist third party. End of problem. Currently the following vehicle manufacturers have access to NACS Superchargers: Ford, GM, Nissan, Polestar, Rivian and Volvo.
All these EV without NACS keeps reminding me how good of a decision I made staying with Tesla when I upgraded from the first year Model 3 to Model Y. The limited range of these VW based models and lack of reliable chargers is insane. I don’t care if you have a 800V chassis since it range and charging sucks!!!

Thanks making the video! It's always nice to see the girls do their own thing too. I didn't finish Roman's video yet. 😅 I did however noticed a couple of things when it came to your charging. You went to charge for the first time too soon. Why not just go to the 2nd charger spot to begin with since you still had the range to do so? Was it be because you didn't know about it? This is why apps like ABRP are needed on road trips. Also you could've used the EA app to plan things out better as well. Also only charge to 80% if possible especially if there is a line. I noticed that you guys charged to 88% or over on the way home only to get there with 40% or so. Imo you should only charge enough to get home with 10% instead. You could then charge to 80% overnight at a much cheaper rate. I would avoid DCFCing as much as possible even if it's free. I got an EV in the first place to not go out to charge when I'm at home so.
I do want a Buzz But gotta admit the weather between first published trip and this one is very different! Which makes a difference in a ice powered car
I was just thinking this week how odd it is that every eccentric in America who has built his or her own big ole house has it dubbed a castle. This makes five I've run across by accident online or in real life. We must have more castles than some countries that actually had them in history.
Although your trip was better than Roman’s. This shows we are not ready for electric vehicles in a state like Colorado where they incentivize people to buy electric vehicles, they still have the lack of charging that is needed for it to fully make sense.
Can you get an adapter to use at Tesla stations? We have one on order 69 on the list, lol, at our dealer here in Littleton, CO. We won't get ours until May, but it would be good to know if you can use an adapter.
Right now the Buzz can not charge at a Tesla Supercharger even with an adapter. EA charges are not very reliable and they don’t communicate with drivers to let them know that 😎
I think the problem with EVs is that charging is enough of an obstacle that you can never relax and enjoy the ride knowing you’ll find a charge station conveniently wherever you end up. You have to plan ahead and create an itinerary centered on charging and that is heavily weather dependent. You have to know all of your stops and charge stations between points…all ahead of time. Not very freeing.
The vehicle is very well designed and great looking. The range 100% destroys it for me. That range may work in Europe but is way too low for US market. The battery is WAY to small.
The most important thing I have learned from owing an EV is that on road trips, DO NOT run it down to 20% or lower. If possible, ALWAYS leave yourself enough battery to go to a secondary charger. If you’re planning to charge at a hotel, call first. Like Roman showed us, they may need an adapter, or be Tesla only. They may also be out of order. Also, try to get there as close to check in time as possible to reduce the chance they will all be full.
To give non Tesla ev owners and idea of how reliable Tesla chargers are i have 160k on my Tesla and 90% of the time I roll into Tesla super charger at below 10% 😂 never an issue at over 100 different charging locations.
@ no reasonable person would argue that Tesla chargers are not superior. I would argue however that, that Elon is the type of person who I do not want to give my $ to. If you do, great.
I would have to disagree with you on the charging stops. I understand that you should give yourself a safe buffer but it's actually best to come to a charger with 20% or less. That's actually on the high end for me as 10% or less would be best. The reason why is that your car will charge at the fastest rate possible. This translate to less time at the charger. People should really only charge enough just to get home with 10% where they could recharge again to 80%. Also 80% should be the limit while road tripping. No one should be spending more than 30 mins charging, especially when there is a line. There is still a line in 2024 due to the lack of chargers and EV people that don't know any better when it comes to charging etiquette. Don't show up to a charger when you need to people! For example in this video they should've just waited to charge at the 2nd stop instead of coming in at 50% SoC or whatever it was. They need to use apps like ABRP prior to the trip to plan it out better. They also should've used the EA app to know if there is a possible wait due to non working chargers or a constant flow of usage which means it's busy there. No one should be going beyond 80% or 85% unless there isn't a line or you need that range to get to your destination or home. In this video they charged it to over 88% only to get home with 40% or so. They should've just charged it to 60%-70% instead. To me the main key thing I learned coming back from my long road trip over the Thanksgiving long week break is to avoid as much charging stops as possible to avoid any variables on the trip. All of my charging sessions were 20 mins or less. It's the waiting in line for 15 mins to over an hour that is the most annoying part of my almost a year of EV ownership. The lack of knowledge by people out there is astonishing. It's all the first time EV rentals that ruin the experience imo. Don't rent one if you're not going to bother with learning about EVs at all. People except accurate range numbers when they're going like 90 mph. EVs are not meant to be driven that fast constantly on the freeway. At the end I'm just glad that my EV has access to the Tesla network (only as a backup) at the beginning of next year and there will be even more chargers from different companies as well. It's going to be one less issue to deal with.
@@Bum_Hip if you let politics run your life you’re going to live a very boring life. The reality is the purchase of a vehicle or your charging cost is a raindrop in the ocean compared to how Elon makes his money. Just get over it.
@@volcalstone can’t argue with your facts. I do it because of the unreliable (non Tesla) charging network. I also don’t charge last 80% unless necessary. My Ioniq 5 is out of there in about 15 minutes usually. Plus I live in the southwest where the chargers seem to be more plentiful than the rest of the country.
I enjoyed the video, the presenters obviously have great on-camera personalities, but at the end of it, I'm not sure I have a good sense of how much time was spent charging and/or looking for charging during the course of this road trip. How many miles traveled? Also where was this road trip? A loop in Colorado? How did the car get from O'hare airport in Rosemont, IL to Colorado?
Exactly what I was going to comment. People are still only using the route planners. No plug share or apps and unfortunately the route planners are nowhere near good enough to rely on alone. There's no reason why I should have an easier time road tripping in my bolt then anyone in a vehicle like this one lol.
Basically to really keep beating the dead horse of "EVs are more effort than gas cars to road trip because you can't just assume any charger is fast, functional, and compatible, and just quickly search for one and go" Which is correct, to be clear, but also at least for my "not totally stuck in my ways" mentality, "not what I would do if I had an EV". It would be great if both charging stations were better, and the navigation tools were as well. The system in your car, or the mapping apps we already use and work best for navigation, are what people want to be using, as the non charging related features are good. So wanting those to just "incorporate the features of plugshare and abrp" is valid
Compliance vehicle, 😏 great review by the Way I mean 70k vehicle and Realistically on a Trip you might be able to achieve 140 Miles as no one's drives to 0% and people have been advised not to Charge to 100%

You just proved it again. EVs don't roadtrip well yet.
Don't tell Roman I said this. but I like this review better.
They both look like soccer moms driving that ID Buzz lol
Love this video. So fun.
Why are these ladies not using the EA app to find the status of chargers?
Exactly what I was going to comment. People are still only using the route planners. No plug share or apps and unfortunately the route planners are nowhere near good enough to rely on alone. There's no reason why I should have an easier time road tripping in my bolt then anyone in a vehicle like this one lol.
Yeah, I only use ABRP in my Ioniq 5. So far it has been very helpful, and reliable.
Electronic Arts has an EV app? 🤪🤣
Basically to really keep beating the dead horse of "EVs are more effort than gas cars to road trip because you can't just assume any charger is fast, functional, and compatible, and just quickly search for one and go"
Which is correct, to be clear, but also at least for my "not totally stuck in my ways" mentality, "not what I would do if I had an EV".
It would be great if both charging stations were better, and the navigation tools were as well. The system in your car, or the mapping apps we already use and work best for navigation, are what people want to be using, as the non charging related features are good. So wanting those to just "incorporate the features of plugshare and abrp" is valid
I am very concerned that VW thought it would be a good idea to put a massive glass sun roof under the roof rack - what could go wrong with that????
I saved this video just for the Greatest Of All Time pun. 😂
A road trip vehicle that can’t go 300 miles….Sorry not a road trip vehicle especially for the price
I didn’t rewind the 🐐 joke 3 times 😅👀😂😂😂 her face
Why aren’t they checking the EA app for vacancies before arrival?
They should have come out with a hybrid gas option. Given the depreciation of all EV's, it's just not worth it.
That was refreshing. Good video, too bad VW can't use Tesla chargers.. yet?
Nice job
Love those two
Yeah! More Jenn, and less grumpy old man!
Great road trip vibes!
You bet!
Is it possible to have an adapter and use the Tesla chargers?
It looks good but it's a useless vehicle with that range
Compliance vehicle, 😏 great review by the Way
I mean 70k vehicle and Realistically on a Trip you might be able to achieve 140 Miles as no one's drives to 0% and people have been advised not to Charge to 100%
Can the back seats be removed?
Yes. There's a strap you pull and they lift right out
@ thanks
Where the heck did you guys go? Manifesto Land?
"If you need to be on time don't take an EV" should be
"If you need to be on time don't take an EV without access to Tesla Supercharging"
Awesome video! the Men's experience and now the women !!
The sequel is better!
