I was always interested by the Stan's career since I was a teen and I was so sad that he died that the first reason why I created a little french spoken blog about creature was to put indeed a little tribute I immediatly wrote from my memories about the man and his works. More, he was a support of the cause against children abuse and so he is an example to put myself to do some little things to help these innocent victims too; really, a great source of inspiration.
Make sure you watch the bonus scenes, they're actually a larger piece called "Stan Winston: Advanced Studies" that add up to a deeper exploration of Stan's character and how that contributed to the work that came out of that studio.
this show to me is on the same level if not higher than Making Monsters on Travel channel. i think you guys need to be an hour long on there for there halloween seasonal line up. I am doing the Stan Winston School and its amazing. Everyone involved is super nice and willing to help anyone out
Exactly. T2, Jurassic Park, ALL of the Marvel and DC movies, the Lord of the Rings films, PacRim, Avatar, Gravity, the Matrix... ...NONE of them would have been possible without CGI. The scale of those films would make 100% practical effects cost prohibitive. The KEY is to use it judiciously. CGI is simply a tool. In the right hands, the results can be beautiful, spectacular and mind-blowing. In the wrong hands? Well...then you get Van Helsing.
I gotta ask Scott if you're listening(or nerdist pass it on, maybe get him to do an ama), what effect that you haven't done yet on the show, do you want to do most of all?
Real in camera effects need to make a come back. I like CG effects but they don't have to be used for everything. In fact the best effects are when practical effects are enhanced by CG.
I personally hate CGI. Animatronics are and will forever be the best type of movie monster. No matter how good CGI gets, it'll never feel as real as shooting a real moving object.
CGI is not that bad. I think it should be used to enhance the practical effects but not to replace them. when you start to over use CGI, its when it starts to look bad.

Amalgamated seriously got the shaft on The Thing (2011), instead we got forgettable awful CGI that pretty much ruined the film.
