- Some things that happen in Vegas stay with you forever! Hope you enjoy this match commentary. It is one of the highlights of my pool career.
Apologies for potato quality and audio issues!
Love that we can watch this over and over.
So happy for you
That was stressful to watch, I felt like I was on your team. Congratulations! In 2018, my APA team was in the World Qualifiers and I only got to play 2 times in the whole tournament... both times were sudden death. haha , they know that I am an exhibitionist and thrive when everyone is watching me. That magnifies my concentration level and I become a pool robot.
That's amazing! It was my first time experiencing something like this in pool. What a rush! That's awesome you're able to use that pressure to enhance your game.
Kudos for this video. Good explaination & happy for your win.
Thanks Sonny! More to come 😁
Wild story!! 😵💫
It really is! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great job with the video! Watch using the apa logos in your thumbnail. They literally just forced me to remove the ones that i had
Thanks Josh, good call. I'll make sure to keep that in mind for future videos. Weird that they wouldn't want their league represented in fan videos. Legal mumbo jumbo I bet.
@@OnTheSnap I'm learning a lot about the apa since i started recording league matches. They can be pretty shady
Good looking out, brother. I'll make sure to steer clear of anything that might set off their alarms. 🥂@@Amateur_Pool
@@OnTheSnap by the way, where are you from? Looks like you play pretty strong 💪
Thanks! I'm in Northern Colorado. I've seen your videos as well. You can definitely hold it down!@@Amateur_Pool
Loved watching you guys out in Vegas this year. You guys did a great job and thanks for the support coming to watch our matches as well!
Thanks, and my pleasure! Hope we see each other out there again soon. Keep up the good work 😎
Anthony, well done. BTW, love playing pool with Tony.
Thanks Keith! I do, too :)
Took my team from Myrtle Beach all the way to this tournament in 2017 for 9 ball. It was an amazing experience. We won our first 5 matches and then got knocked out by a team from Branson Mo. Had a chance to spend alot of time with Ewa Lawrence because the myrtle beach league is her league. Became good friends with her she is an amazing player and person. Great Video! Keep playing and good luck on your future championships.
Going to Vegas is so exciting. Congrats to you and your team. Winning 5 is no small feat! Do you think you'll go out again?
Three GREAT games!
Thanks! It's so exciting being out there, and this match was such a rush.
Duuuuuude, that's incredible, what an amazing match! Goddang, that's gotta feel good!
Thanks so much! Such an amazing rush. Feels great to come through for the team, and to have all that practice pay off.
A team from my home room won that tournament 2 years in a row. It’s brutally tough, and kudos to you guys for making it as deep as you did. I’m not a fan of sudden death either, for the same reasons you mentioned. Where are you guys from?
Thanks! I was really proud of how deep we got on our first year out there. We're from Northern Colorado, and gunning for it again this year. The team from Denver made it to the finals last year, and we know them very well. It's tough action for sure.
Was on a Canadian team some years ago… we finished 5/6… we were in the regular league though..,skill levels 2 to 7… i was a 7… always loved competitive team play there’s just something about it and regardless of what some people think the pressure out there is immense!!!! I still play but the years have caught up to me.. I am still super competitive but the confidence and consistency is lacking…You played well and never let that one you hung cost you…. Your worst enemy out there is frustration…. A strong mental game is just as if not more important than the physical aspect..
I love that team feeling - you get so invested in your teammates. There's really something special about working together for the win, especially for those lower SL players! Seeing their faces light up when they do well is the best thing. Thanks so much for the comment. The mental toughness is so important under pressure. Are you still playing in leagues?@@nobodyspecial6436
Hey that's Greg Dutton! He's a damn good shot!
I have a ton of respect for Greg and his game. We chatted a bit after the match. It's a shame we didn't have the chance to play a full set.
@OnTheSnap yeah the sudden death thing sucks all around. Would have been cool to watch full match. I played him in a tournament and had like three opportunities to shoot in a fast and furious tournament, lol!
Granted, I'm not close to his skill level and didn't stand much of a chance anyway.
Yeah, gotta take those chances when we can. Sounds like you've got some good action down there! Thanks for the comments 😁
both of you guys are good. nice commentary. too bad you couldn't go 7 like intended? never played pool in the states and not familiar with APA. is everybody on your team the same skill level? how far did your team go? is there a singles tournament? did you play and how did you do? what is your fargo rating.
Thanks! I fully agree - I wish we could have gone to 7 to have a full test of our skills against each other. Maybe we'll run into them again next year. APA has a standard league and a Masters league. Standard league is a handicapped system where players are assigned a number based on their skill level. Lower numbers have to get fewer games or points to win the match. In Masters, there are no handicaps; it's always a race to 7. My team last summer had strong players, but we were not quite all on the same level. Our team got quite deep into the brackets given it was our first year attending this event. Out of 400 teams, we made it to Round 5 (17th-32nd place), which was in the money. They do have singles tournaments in the APA during normal season, as well as mini tournaments when in Vegas. I competed in a standard league (non handicapped) APA MVP tournament last season, (you have to qualify based on your win/loss ratio), and I won that one! As for the Fargo rating, I actually don't have one yet. I took a few years off from the game and during that time Fargo came into prominence. Since then I still have not participated in any ranked events. Thanks so much for the comment and discussion!
@@OnTheSnap thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. congrats on your win! you must be very good. hope to see more videos from you! cheers and happy new year
Sure thing, I love talking about this stuff. Stay tuned - more to come!@@intercrew99
Good stuff 😎
Thanks! 😁
If still wondering about 10 ball in 1st rack, next time play the shot only. If you hit it like you decided , the position on next ball will be there. Great play and mental strength the rest of the match. I really liked what I saw,
Focusing down on just making the shot and trusting position can help with the nerves as well. Get out of your head and into the body. Thanks for the compliments on the match - it was a great one.
Great play!
Are those 9-ft tables ?
Thanks! This league always plays on 7ft tables. The APA recently made the move over to the Diamond brand, which I love. We used to play on Valley tables, which are much more forgiving and found in most every bar in the US.
@@OnTheSnap Oh I see! I thought competitive pool in the US was usually played on 9ft tables. My wife and I are moving to the US this year and I'm eager to join a league because I've been a solo pool player in my country for a while now, for lack of competition..
I guess my 9ft table won't be such an advantage after all then!
That's exciting! You'll see competitive pool played on both 7ft and 9ft tables in the US between local bar tournaments, pool halls, and bigger events. I do believe that playing often on a 9ft table is great for your stroke and ability to make long pots. If I had to choose, I'd rather spend more time on a 9ft table and come down to a 7ft table to compete than the other way around.@@bsboy5763
Im screwed qualifying this year. Im only skill 3 and they said I'll be matched with higher skilled players 🤦
Don't lose hope! I was in an MVP tournament and had to play a SL4 in the finals. The handicap system works really well, for what it is. You could definitely still qualify if you keep your nerves in check. I'm pulling for you 👍
Great W, Anthony! Might be the best 3 game stretch I have seen you play so far (I am watching your videos in random order). @9:10 A somewhat uncomfortable bridging and your brain wanting to cheat the ball to the right side of the pocket so you can draw left probably caused the miss. I would have very easily made the same mistake. I randomly came across this video from Venom ruclips.net/video/Msdetysygc0/видео.html a short while ago, and it drastically lowered my miss frequency. Focusing on this principle, especially when my bridging is uncomfortable really helped me. I bet this will make you into an 8/9 🤣🤣🤣. Congrats on the W!!!
Thanks man! This one was a highlight for sure. The bottle drill was a staple back when I first started to play seriously, didn't know there was a video out there of Venom endorsing it.
What are you recording with , Go Pro ???
This appears to have been recorded on a toaster 😂 seriously, though, it was streamed from my opponent's phone. Future videos will be recorded with a proper camera setup. Thanks for being here.
I was just wondering . Thanks, Congrats...
@@ral819 sure thing! Thanks for being here.
So, APA Masters rules are different from APA League? You dropped a solid on the break and then ran stripes.
Hey, good question! The rules for the break and taking suits are the same as regular league. Rack 1 I made 1 stripe on the break (14 ball), and ran stripes. Rack 2 was an open table. Rack 3 I made one of each, which gave me choice.
@@OnTheSnap I thought I saw a solid missing. That is what threw me.
No worries. I do wish Masters would make it choice after the break, like in BCA. @@birdmun
You are a very slow player...
No wonder you're in sudden death. Have some confidence.... shoot your shot ....get into flow.... but hurry up.
Thanks for the feedback. My pace was WAY slower back then for sure. Going into Sudden Death had nothing to do with me, though. My teammate took 2 hours to play his race to 7 only to lose 🙄. Since then I've worked a lot of my tempo.
