I was 15 when this came out and listend to the whole album with my best friend. We never heard anything like this and was completely blown away...... Boston's music has stood the test of time. They are AMAZING!!
Im not buying it Brant. You weren't born until 1985 :)
And its basically one guy. And a singer. Unreal.
IMO the best debut album by any band ever. Bostons music has stood the test of time
indeed every track is an absolute banger
Absolutely 💯
IMHO, for 1970's debut albums, it's either this album or Van Halen's debut album. both were "game changers". just 1 guy's opinion
Except the "Band" is just one guy(Tom Scholz) doing everything(Harmonies included) besides lead vocals in his basement studio in the early 70s.
Unheard of back then.
Everything about this album is relaxing, inspirational, upbeat music! No other band could ever put out an all out bad ass collaboration of beautiful music ❤!
Listening to this for the last 47 years and it NEVER GETS OLD
You need to let Tasha here this. I bet she would like it.
"Beamed up to the Mother-Ship of Rock !!" Tight description.... props bruh 😂
This is one of them " dad turn down the radio" songs.
YOU CANNOT GO WRONG w anything on this first album, hell I’d even extend that sentiment to their second “Don’t Look Back” as well !!! Timeless music full of everything especially Brad’s beautiful voice ❤️❤️ there is also a stunner on the 3rd one called “To Be a Man” check it out T
Soaring vocals, soaring melodies, soaring guitars -- what's not to love with Boston?
Boston ruled. And still rules, much like van halen, iron maiden, their vocals are epic.
The production quality of this album too was ahead of its time. I had the opportunity to go and listen through the masters during my time at Musicians Institute. I got to go through every track and literally dissect their recording methods. It was brilliant
The drummer, Sib Hashian was The Rock's late father in law
Entire album is a Masterpiece, and is considered the GOAT intro album by any Rock band ever by a large majority of Rock music critics. I can't argue that either.
I don't care about sales numbers; this is easily the greatest debut album of all time. Every song was a hit on the radio!
We’ll actually this album sold MILLIONS
@ruthylopez But it's not the #1 selling debut album of all time. Still the best one though.
T, play this whole album without stopping. It keeps building with each song, until you're rocking so hard that your face melts. p.s. play it LOUD.
Every single track on this entire album is pure gold.
One of the greatest debut albums ever
This track and "More Than a Feeling" were both on their debut album; the whole album (8 songs) is 🔥🔥🔥. Other songs on that album you need to check out: "Peace of Mind", "Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", and "Rock and Roll Band".
Hitch a Ride ❤
This is one of the greatest rock songs ever written
Boston is such a badass band
Yes!
Their debut is one of the greatest Rock debuts ever.
One of the best produced albums ever.
You want a similar experience....go down that Boston rabbit hole.
Try "Hitch a Ride" from this same album. It has the best and most melodic guitar solos of all their songs.
You can't be more right saying the opening sounds like the album cover. Yep, there was a special look-n-feel to that mid/late 70s sci-fi art, so nostalgic...
Back in the day when music was real!! No auto tune, no time corrections. Brother, you’re hearing it the made it was made. Enjoy 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Bostons first album is still seen as one of the best debut albums of all time . Every song... I mean every song is insanely good , just push play and sit back for an experience . The bass player for boston is an eletronics genius . He designed and built all the amps and effects systems for the band. Then patented all items he made. It is all but impossable to get bostons sound from any other brand of effects to sound like they do ... The bass player also played all instruments, and recorded the album with one other person in his parents basement ... Even after the better part of 50 years this album is still in my collection and played on a regular basis
Boston's debut is a masterpiece. You must listen to the the entire album !!!!!!
The first time I saw Boston in concert they were the opening act & I'd never even heard of them. Truth be told, I can't remember who they were opening for but standing on a packed arena floor hearing Foreplay for the first time still stands out as one of the best moments I've ever experienced at a concert. You just knew you were hearing something extraordinary. All these years later this song still gets to me. It is a classic & deservedly so.
Best debut album is American history, and I was fortunate to see them 7 times, way back at Ohio State in 1976. Incredible talents, and killer rock and roll.
Boston was genius. Tom Scholtz mastered the transition from the angry minor 7th exploding in a triumphant major 8th several times in Foreplay alone. Every single syllable was supported. Your reaction was great! It was the SAME reaction we fogies had in 1976. RIP Brad Delp, the nicest guy in rock. He gave us so much more than a feeling.
I love this whole album. Gives me an aching in my heart to hear it now. Like a homesickness for a time gone by.
Boston was on fire in the 70's, greatest debut album of all time. This was their biggest hit and it was a masterpiece.
Just do the WHOLE album! Every track is a banger, every single one. You’ll like them all.😊
One of the best bands ever.... ever.
T i swear you're sitting in my old bedroom in 1983 😂😂😂 and Boston is never a bad move for a rock n roller... rip Brad Delp 🌷🌷🏵
E great debut album of 1976. Friday and Saturday nights cruising withthis blasting as loud as we could! Man those were great times! Thanks man!👍👍🤟🤟
Top notch production on this album. It doesn't get much better.
If you were around when this came out this was probably the first track you heard. It's still took me 8 years to see them in concert! For their album third stage I finally got to see them. Peace!
Tom Scholz played all the instruments and produced this in his basement. He then went out and found a vocalist and put the band together. Oh yea he was an MI T grad and literally changed the way guitars sounded.
There's a lot of mythology surrounding this album. Tom played *_many_* of the instruments, not all, and had known Brad Delp since 1969. Also, vocals, and most of _Let Me Take You Home Tonight_ were recorded in Los Angeles, where the album was mixed with co-producer John Boylan. Personnel list:
Tom Scholz - lead and rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, special guitar effects, bass, organ, clavinet, percussion, producer, engineer
Brad Delp - lead and harmony vocals, 12-string acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, percussion
Barry Goudreau - lead and rhythm guitar
Fran Sheehan - bass
Sib Hashian - drums, percussion
Actually that's the popular myth, but it's not accurate. Tom didn't play all the instruments. He did play most of them, but in this song, according to Tom, Barry Goudreau played the rhythm guitar on Foreplay and "the awesome lead" on Long Time. Barry also played on Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Fran Sheehan played bass on Foreplay and Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Brad Delp also played acoustic guitar on Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Sib Hashian played drums on all the tracks except Rock and Roll Band, which Tom spliced in the demo drum track played by Jim Masdea.
He didn't have to go out and find a vocalist. Tom had joined Jim Masdea, Barry Goudreau and bass player Kevin Clougherty's band around 1970 as a keyboard player. Shortly after he asked Barry if he could play guitar in the band too, Barry let him, and though he was a beginner at the guitar Barry helped him along. Barry introduced him Brad Delp (who Barry already knew) and they hired him as a singer for the band (Mother's Milk). Franny Sheehan also played some gigs with the band, though he wasn't a regular member. They played early versions of most of the songs that ended up on the Boston album for a few years in the Boston area and worked on some early demos together. By the time the demo was accepted by Epic, Kevin had left the band, and Tom was told to get rid of Jim Masdea on the drums, so all they had to do was find a drummer and a bass player. Boston was essentially Mother's Milk with a new drummer (who Barry recommended) and a bass player who already had played with them before (who Sib Hashian suggested).
Most of the recording was done in his basement, and the producer from Epic Records (John Boylan) allowed Tom most of the control and shared co-production credit with him. All the drum tracks were recorded in an L.A. studio, as were all the vocals. Let Me Take You Home Tonight was also recorded in L.A.. Tom did the premix of the instruments in his basement studio and the final mix was done in an L.A. studio.
Boylan loved the way Tom recorded electric guitars, but he had to fly an recording engineer to Tom's studio to show him how to mic the acoustic guitar, which he said sounded amateurish. He also had them assist Tom with the proper technique for recording the drums in the LA Studio, but he did say Tom was a quick study.
The part that's right is Tom's a great songwriter, and he knows what he wants to hear in the record, and if the sound equipment couldn't produce what he wanted, he would modify it and if that didn't work he would design the equipment he needed to get the result he wanted. And even more to his credit, his degree from MIT was not even in the electronic field, it was in Mechanical Engineering!
Boston's debut album is one of my top 5 rock albums ever.
Every song on it is fantastic!
Glad you liked it T. This whole album rocks!. 2nd and 3rd albums good also. Thanks for the reaction.
This was an F’n masterpiece! Loved the experience it gave.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT This entire Album is🔥🔥🔥!!! I'm having a little fun 😆😏🧐🤔 with this question. Look at the Album Cover closely, turn it 180⁰ degrees.....What do you See 👀??? 🛸....🎸🤨 😏👍

Are the links ok that I sent you for Great White (May) and Zebra (June)?
@@mikenastasi8927Which Great White song did you request? ✌️ ☮️
@@willarrington8611
Stick It from their 1st album. I already requested Rock Me, House Of Broken Love and them live in 1988 doing Since I've Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin.
Pretty good from a dude who just wanted to explore inventing studio/sound technology and sell his stuff. He had to piece the band together basically, after the album was made (except the singer). Legendary stuff.
The part about piecing the band together is a legend. Barry Goudrea and Brad Delp had been playing early versions of most of the songs on the Boston album in a band with him for several years and worked on early demos with him. Fran Sheehan had also played some gigs with them, though he wasn't a regular member of the band. That band was called "Mother's Milk" and the bass player had quit before Epic accepted a demo. Tom was told to get rid of the drummer on the demo, Jim Masdea. The band Boston was basically Mother's MIlk with a new drummer and bass player.
@@ptournas Yeah. No.
@@mcseforsale I guess you don't know much about the band's history. That's OK. Enjoy the music.
MASTERPICE THE ALL ALBUM🎼🎩🎸🎶🎶🎶☮️✌️
Back when this album came out, nobody got caught cruisin' main with this in the 8 track...and my 15 inch organ speakers in the back deck of my 66 ford galaxy 500 could be heard comin' down the street...I sure do miss the 70's...Rock ON!!! Love your channel by the way guys!!!
My favorite Boston song. I loved your reaction to it 🙂I grew up on this, the best music ever.70's and early 80's. I feel almost privileged to have been there for it.
Can't tell you how many times I've listened to this album. So masterfully played and recorded. Glad that you enjoyed it! Peace.
A perfect song. From a perfect album.
I love Bostons I wish I was around back then to have gone to one of they're concerts 👍
You really should listen to the whole album sometime. As you said you felt here - it takes you on a journey. Launch is an experience and I personally like "Cool the Engines."
Top 10 Rock song ever! Unmatched instrumentation and creativity.
Boston
Rock And Roll Band
Smokin
Your genuine hype for this was great. And dude, in all these years, this song still hits as hard as it did back then. Seriously. Not many have done that for me.
You def got beamed up to the mothership with it; just being blessed with hearing it for the first time.
Great review! Actually "Foreplay" was the instrumental at the beginning, the song was called "Long Time", This is the how the album starts! Makes you want to lose yourself in the rest of the album! 🤘😈
Side note: Tom Scholtz wrote this song back in 1969 but finalized it for production in 1975-6 for their debut album, and it shows.
That is a masterpiece.....Tom Scholz (plays everything except vocals and drums) and his inventiveness is fantastic. Brad Delp on vocals (RIP) is fire. I agree, this is much better than More Than A Feeling. Great reaction - you appreciate and communicate so well.
Not quite, according to Tom Scholz,, Barry Goudreau played the rhythm guitar on Foreplay and "the awesome lead" on Long Time. Barry also played on Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Fran Sheehan played bass on Foreplay and Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Brad Delp also played acoustic guitar on Let Me Take You Home Tonight.
Don't agree that this is much better then "More Than A Feeling". It's just a very different song. MTAF is just as good.
this album is the best of America! That it be great once again
If you look at the mothership it's a guitar 😊
When it first came out we had no idea! There was nothing like it. It influenced a whole new wave of rock n roll.
Boston was great and one of the best concerts I've ever been to way back in the day!
Tom Scholtz. A incredibly gifted writer / musician / visionary etc.. Every once in a while in life someone shows up years ahead of us. Tom Schultz you the man!
Listen to the entire album and in your mind travel back in time to 1976 there are no personal computers, no cell towers or phones no internet no digital anything MTV is years away there’s 3 guys in a basement 1 of which is Tom Scholz, an MIT grad working for Polaroid, he records this in his basement engineers and produces it with Sib on drums and Brad on vocals Tom plays everything else on the album.
You couldn’t go anywhere in 1976 that this masterpiece album wasn’t being blasted. It to this day is ahead of our time and in 76 it just blew everyone away
@haroldjones8023 It is a well known and well documented fact that ALL of Brads vocals were recorded by producer John Boylan at Capital Studios Studio C on their Quad Eight Console and two inch analog tape. In addition it is well documented as fact that the entire song Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad was recorded by producer John Boylan at The Record Plant LA. It is also a well documented fact that Barry plays on three songs on this record. Tom was forced to admit this in Court. The vast majority of the electric guitar playing on Foreplay and Long Time including the solo is in fact Barry. It is also a well documented fact that Fran plays bass on two songs and Fran is playing bass on Foreplay. Brad plays 12 string acoustic on Let Me Take You Home.
It is also a well documented fact that Boylan made Tom re-record all of the drum tracks and acoustic instrument tracks before the record could be mixed because Toms drum and acoustic instrument tracks were amateurish and not up to standard for a professional recording. Tom was tutored in mic technique and how to record drums and acoustic instruments by engineer Paul Grupp who was hired by Boylan to get Tom up to speed on how to record drums and acoustic instruments.
It is also a well documented fact that this record was not mixed in Toms basement studio. His studio could not have even began to pull off mixing this record. This record was mixed at Westlake Studios in LA by Boylan, engineer Warren Dewey and Tom.
Every. Single. Song. on this debut album blasted from our radios, college dorm rooms, and cars during the late '70's... and even when I went back to Penn State for weekends over the years... I still heard Boston, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac and the mighty Earth Wind & Fire pouring out of windows and cars. Gave me hope for newer generations!!
Oh yeah!! I know every word of every song on this album. Had the cassette of this album. Wore it out!
Saw them in concert at the Sun Dome in Tampa, FL. in 1995. What a crowd! While waiting for the concert to start, we saw a man with greying hair in his' 50's walk in, wearing a Tux. His date was a stunning blonde in a light blue floor length evening gown with a tiara, diamond earrings/necklace and white elbow length gloves. 10 feet behind them, in walked a woman in her 30's wearing a black bustier, leather short shorts, fishnet stockings, thigh-high boots and black leather gloves. In her hand was a silver chained dog leash. This leash was attach to the collar of the man she was leading in. He was wearing black combat boots, black leather pants, a black leather vest (no shirt), spiked leather dog collar and a full head black leather mask with only breathing holes! I told my friends "This Concert just went to the next level"!! The concert was awesome!
The entire album needs to be reacted to
Great breakdown at the end😊!!! Points about the experience and wanting more!!!
We all had this album! Total banger! No bad songs!🤘🔥
"certain types of music are an experience" BINGO! and yet so few are confident enough to go beyond their favourite genres
You can drop the needle anywhere on this album and be blessed.
One of the best rock songs of all time. Period. A sonic explosion of high energy harmony and raucous guitar play. And the crystal clear incomparable voice of lead singer Brad Delp. People still love it and can’t believe what they’re hearing 47 years later - just like I couldn’t when I first heard it as a sophomore in high school. And remember - this is a DEBUT ALBUM. Tom Scholz is a genius. And lBrad Delp a revelation. The whole album is good beyond hope.
Brilliant! No band compares… they were unique. Love the music, love your channel! Keep ‘em coming!!!!❤
This song is awesome,Boston put out some amazing music!!!
I so much love and respect and agree with your reaction. I’ve loved Boston since my university days way back in the late ‘80s, and I’ve always thought this song sequence was like rock-opera in small.
I was 15 years old when this came out. Heard More Than a Feeling and bought the 8-track tape the next day. That was fun watching you hear this for the first time. Thanks man.
Best track on this incredible album, IMO!
Just came across your channel due to this (you said it) masterpiece of classic rock. Without much debate, one of the greatest debut albums of all time. Glad you appreciate this band, some terrific songs by these guys...my favorite band. Think I'll stick around, see what other rock tunes you bring...nice reaction!
A softer Boston song that is my favorite is called,Let Me Take You Home Tonight!💋🎶👊
Any real rocker has this in their collection❤
We used this song to test car stereo installs.
HITCH A RIDE BABY!
Greatest bands of all time! I was 15 the first time I’ve heard them I’m 67 now and it always sounds like the first time
I remember when this first came out I would play it every day with head phones on and get lost in the music.
The part that you referred to as "the intro" is the song, "Foreplay". It then leads into "Long Time". They are always played together but are technically two different songs.
Yeah I couldn’t get enough of these guys when I was a kid. I like how you described it as an experience. I was lucky to grow with this epic song as an “experience” and of some others from that era…Bohemian Rhapsody, Tom Sawyer, Stairway to Heaven etc. Perfect reaction!
First Boston album is one of the best debut albums of all time.
And it was ONE guy who created all this in his basement. Then got the.vocalist and drums later.
The whole album was created and produced by him in his basement.
Foreplay, my favorite Boston song, I usually do the mad conductor to this song, lots of fun.
Any song off of Boston's debut album or 8Track I had in my 8Track tape player in my 1972 Chevy Impala 4door
That 8track tape stayed in at full volume until I wore it out
Not a bad song all the way through
Rock and Roll Band is one of my favorites, Jammin!
Excellent choice!!! Killer band!! Enjoy this rabbit hole!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎸🎙🎹🔥🤘🤘🤘💜
Great band and great in concert
This song is PERFECTION !!! I was 13 yrs old and in in Jr. High School when this album came out, I used to listen to it on my older brother’s stereo when he was at work during the summer it came out, (August 1976). I wasn’t supposed to use my brothers stereo because a friend of mine broke the 8 track player on it a few months before, but I did any way, lol. A perfect album from beginning to end, not a bad song on the album. Pick just about any track on the album and I guarantee you’ll like it.
More Than A Feeling, Peace Of Mind, Foreplay/Longtime, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin’, Hitch A Ride, Something About You, Let Me Take You Home Tonight.
The album has gone 17x Platinum (That’s 17,000,000 copies sold) since it’s release in 1976, that’s impressive.
It would be 2 years before the bands second album, Don’t Look Back, be released in 1978, in those days it was unheard of for a band, especially one who’s debut album was such a tremendous success, to take 2 years to release a follow up album, but Tom Sholtz didn’t want to release it until he was satisfied with its production, and even though it was released in 1978 Tom wanted to spend more time on the album before its release, he was a perfectionist when it came to his music.
Spend some more time with Boston, I think you’ll be happy.
Stay Cool 😎 and…
\m/ Stay Metal \m/
Well done, Sir. Thak you...THANK YOU for not interrupting this song. The more reactions I hear, the more I appreciate you guys that don't feel the need to stop every few seconds and just feel the music.
The mothership is the giant guitar on the cover! Boston doesn't have a bad song ✌️
A masterpiece ❤
An alien gets dropped to earth and asks, "what is classic Rock and Roll?" Me, "THIS!"
Don't know if you've done Kansas yet. "Carry on My Wayward Son". Same year, or near it. American Prog Rock with a very catchy Pop twist. I don't normally recommend old promotional videos, but worth watching. One guy is playing TWO instruments AND singing lead, while a "hype man" backup singer stands behind him, almost as if asking to do something more, lol.
Greatest debut album of all time
Every song on this album is good!❤🔥
I seen the 1977, Don't Look back concert when I was 14. My first concert. Still my favorite!
I so love watching people hearing this for the first time :-)! It's like showing your toddler a locomotive for the first time, all wide eyes in amazement😃
What a tune.....an absolute classic👍
More than a Feeling was the bigger hit, mostly because it had a more pop music sound and obviously the time was short enough for radio play. This was the song that introduced us to Boston.
"To the mothership of rock'n roll" 😂 100%
Anything from their first 2 is a must listen. But that isn't to say they are the only titles worth it. They have many afterward as well.
Boston was the first band I saw in concert. It was the fall of 1978 and 3 college buddies and I set out on a 70 mile trip to see Boston in Minneapolis. Sammy Hagar warmed up for them (The Red Rocker). They opened with "Rock And Roll Band", one of my favorites. Great concert!
