Hahaha love the intro Tjommi, and that is spot on. It is really time GARMIN takes this stuff serious. I think GARMIN is the simple and easy solution, and you know exactly what you got, or maybe surprised you don’t get more. Either way, for navigation on road and down in the big city’s, I have had great help in GARMIN. But i really need to take a closer look at this option for future adventures. Can’t you just switch to google maps to get directions? Really well made video that explained a lot of the questions i had about it. The controllers look great when you learn where everything is. Hahaha, i will promise to learn you the proper Ååååhh, if you teach me how to trow up the tent 🏕️😂 😂 Cheers
Epic intro. Swapped my XT Zumo for the Carpe and fitted the nav buttons either side as you have Robert. They might be upside down though as I can't operate it properly which is a big distraction!
First, let me say, you guys are very good. I have watched a few videos on your trips and I love it. Also a thank you for all the information you gather and share with the rest of us. I have a Garmin XT and the only reason I bought it was because of the screen brightness. Using the phone for sometime it pissed me off when I needed to look at the map and couldn't se a thing during the day. My question is... which screen is brighter during day light and direct sunlight? Garmin Zumo XT or the Caper Iter Pad? If they are at least the same, I will change my setup to the Caper Iter because Garmin sux. Planing a trip is a pain and most of the time it does not find the address I need, at least not in Portugal where I'm from. Any information on this comparison would be appreciated.
😂 I love it! I also feel Garmin doesn’t think the motorcycling community isn’t their focus market as they have a very large commercial market. Garmin new developments seem to go for marathon/cross country runners, personal sports kinda stuff 😢. So personally I haven’t bothered upgrading my Garmin 64
Thank you :) Indeed they have great products in some areas they seem to focus on. Let see how the tackle the ADV market :) I have popcorn and watch them with suspense
You could start a career as an actor😅 and in the main item you are right!! Very well done, it was a pleasure, thanks! Greetings from Braunschweig, Norbert
absolutely awesome video, hopefully i can have this nicely mounted on my BMW GSA soon in a cradle as I had to bring my NAV 6 to the dealer yesterday its suffering from the all well known issues after 5 months where the screen behaves irratic and i can't control it anymore......
As the author of Solitaire for Windows and a frustrated Zumo XT off road user I whole heartedly approve. I have a Samsung Active Tab coming to try out DMD2. I’m excited to not sing songs on our Cardo Packtalks about all the horrible things we want to do to Garmin product managers.
Wow thanks for sharing this Robert! I love the concept, because I currently run a Garmin Zumo and an iPhone on my bike. They both have pro and cons, so I run them simultaneously on certain trips.
Great video 😂 And great timing - my boyfriend and I are still struggling with the Garmin devices (especially because of the missing Linux support for decades...). So it's great to learn about other devices. We didn't hear about this one yet (we are still beginner riders). So thanks! =) Looking foward to hear of this with more experience!
I loaded DMD2 into my tablet. Even though i have not been able to use it, just playing around with it, really like it. One thing that bothers me is no no auto routte, and having to use that Garmin software to make a route and then load it into tablet. Running other android app, like radar scope (if call sig) will be a lot help as trips i take, weather can change in a heartbeat (bad storm reroute, well avoid anyway) Actually what i just said is not really correct. I can startup google map offline and use it for navigation if on highway. That's my plan anyway. Mostly i got it for the BDRs and other adventure tracks/routes. Humm, so i can play the music i have stored on my tablet also via handlebar controller ?
Cool. If you use the beta version it's updated at least once a week, often more. Right now it does have auto route with different riding styles etc. You can also control music since it has it's own controller widget you can place on the home screen. It's moving fast in development and it's getting close to perfect.
Great intro, Robert. And outro with the "real" oohh! We should try that with Frankonian beer. What is important for me riding offroad is a digital map that's crystal-clear and easy to read in a nanosecond. I have Garmin 390 trackmode and the Czech Mapsource navigator on a rugged Chinese Android smartphone, so two systems at a glance. But your DMD app coupled with a large screen looks much better. Food for thought. Thanks for your ideas, Günter/Nürnberg
@@NomadSweden Skol, Robert! We'll have Oedenberger tomorrow after our hike. A new brand to me - there are hundreds of microbreweries in Frankonia north of Nürnberg. Beer heaven ;-)
Finally a good alternative gps system, personally I don’t like Garmin system, is an old school system and wants you to have in their ecosystem without any progress and must pay it expensive for that it gives you.
very good video!!! I would like to know how you make your routes. Is it possible to do it directly on the smartphone and how Or should it be prepared on a computer and then transferred to the smartphone. If you have links/videos I would be grateful if you could provide them. Thanks in advance
The carpe iter seems to have a good solution for attaching charging. How do people connect charging when using a more standard android device/phone? I mean surely the USB-C will vibrate loose during adv riding?
The problem with USB is not coming loose, but getting moisture in the phone when raining, and it will not charge anymore. When I used a phone I had a phone mount from Quad Lock with wireless charing which worked well.
Yes, so in effect you need to have something like the carpe iter that has a rugged outdoors- and vibration proof charging connector. If only the carpe iter wasn't so pricey...
I use my xt a few times in a year. I don't like the user interface. it is not logical. I understand my Fenix 6x pro interface, I wonder why garmin does not use the same interfaces on each Garmin product. cannot use connect to transfer gpx files to xt. Thanks for mentioning dmd2. Hilarious and well made.
Many mistake ItchyBoots setup for this. She uses a tablet that looks the same but is not Carpe Iter and she uses OSMand app for navigation 😊 But she is closing in 👍🏻
So… What to say?😂 Just bought the Tablet, Adventure control and the mount for my GSA, a lot of €:s…. Hope the next version of DMD2 is coming soon. And Robert, more videos about how to operate and how to install, and optimize this things. Maybe I can pay you a visit, when the snow in Dalarna has meltet. I will bring some local beer….😉 Hej hopp!
a perfect Video 🔥🔥🔥 the funny introduction hits the topic exactly: what do you need today to navigate - not just on the road, but for example the TET or a road book tour? I've also been using the CAPEITER for a long time - and with varying degrees of success. A few years ago, during the Hard Alpi Tour, the Bluetooth connection broke down and the device was dead. The problems associated with the power supply and the Android operating system have not yet been solved with the M8 connector either. Very annoying if you rely on it alone... And you have to give Garmin credit for that: the devices are very stable. I would never use an electronic road book in a rally, for example - and I'm not alone: paper is still used at the DAKAR! I'm curious to see which player will bring hardware that runs as stable as Garmin and includes the functionality of DMD2.
Indeed, stable and limited also means stable. Dakar is moving to digital roadbooks so the progress will go on. But of course on special devices I'm sure.
Heya Robert, I am about to plan getting a Yamaha Extreme...for traveling. Now my idea is to add a Garmin thread overland 8" on Portrait Format just next to the new TFT... I was of course as well checking your DMD videos. the Garmin is also capable to install the DMD software and also to switch between garmin or DMD by a button click. Will there be enough space to mount the 8" garmin (Handlebar movements...) and do you like the idea of switching between the two or shall i just go for the DMD" and the x version of the thork tablet... ?
I have never tried the mounting you want to do so I can’t say really. Also not tried the Thread but you should ask in their active DMD user group on FB. I am sure you find lots of Thread experience there.
Thanks for doing this video. I have installed the app on my Samsung tab 3. Now adding the adv controller to complete the setup. Two questions if you don't mind? Could you do a video of the wiring, as I already have limited space under the seat, and would you comment on the wheel sensor? I use the rally moto app in the uk, and think the wheel sensor would be required? Thank you.
Garmin XT has the unique advantage, at least so far, the display works with motorcycle gloves, plus the brightness in the sun. For me, it would be a maximum advantage to use this display with an application like DMD2. Maybe the possibility to resoft the Garmin XT with DMD2...
I really like the entusiasm and the work you put in to this. A great ambassador for the product. I have followed the development more or less since the start, and bought the lifetime access and controllers. And how much I really like to like it I am so far quite disappointed about the map it offers. Very lacking and not much help offroad. I always go back to locus where I can use topographical maps from lantmateriet in sweden and CNIG in Spain. I use the DMD/2 as a main screen on my mounted tablet. It is a nice main screen for bikes for sure, helpful to get a overview and easy access to the other applications. But for me the type of tablet and the maps I can use are more important. So I always start and navigate through the locus map, there is just so much better setup and user friendly. I know about the restrictions of the map use and that is why DMD uses the free maps. But if it could have an option to load your own offline maps it would be a whole package. Lets see in the future. Keep up the good work and ride safe.
Thanks Andreas! I know they are looking at new map layers and I have promoted Lantmäteriet :) so let's hope for that. In Sweden it's unbeatable in detail. Cheers!
I really appreciate your details on the DMD2. I have decided to get a Samsung Tab Active 3 (Made in Vietnam), instead of a Thorks/Carpe-Iter, etc which are made in China. I would like to ask your advice on memory. Is the 64GB models OK for all the maps I would need or should I pop for the 128GB model? Thanks for your help.
Didn't need to watch for that long to come to the impression that as far as a sat nav system Garmin doesn't have anything to worry about. Garmin of course is not just motorbikes but cars, cars and caravans, motorhomes and trucks with specialist systems for each. I checked the links for the needed hardware and it comes from 1000 euros to 1300 euros, a ZUmo Xt is probably around 350 to 400 euros. It looks like the developers have said, this is a cool feature and can we add it without asking do users actually need it. OBD link? my bike shows all of this info on the dashboard why add it to a sat nav. Handlebar controls? The BMW Navigator I had (badged Garmin) was linked to the bikes handlebar controls, I used them about half a dozen times in around 5 years. When I'm riding I don't need to fiddle with the GPS screen or settings or apps, I need to be paying attention to the road, spoken directions throught the helmet intercom does all I need. If i find that I need to alter or adjust something I will stop and use the touch screen, in fact I have it set to not allow changes to be made while moving. I normally position the sat nav to be further away than most people to discourage any attempts at trying to change thins when riding. Off road tracks are a waste of time for me as I never go off road I do longish distances on road and the Zumo does all that is needed without all of the fancy "features" here.
Just know the only required hardware is any android device, cheap or expensive. And since this video you can now run DMD2 on Garmin Tread devices. But good thing is that we can all choose what suits us best.
Nomaden, tech nerd you are! And I am too. I'm trying to find a decent android for bike use with DMD2. Thinking about the Ulefone Armor X10, which is quite cheap, and hopefully capable of navigation.

I have a question. I just bought a brand new 2024 Honda Africa twin so it has CarPlay in android auto the question is since I already have a screen to utilize could I not just buy an old android phone? Can you install that software on the phone and then use the screen on the bike instead of buying a tablet.?
Ok question for you. Does this unit work for older style carburated bikes? As in a 2011 DRZ400? Meaning can I hard wire in all the water temp, RPM, Speedo and such? I have built a custom one off rally dash for my DRZ and looking for a nice info dash. Similar to this. Already have the garmin XT. But would like a better dash. Currently using rhe trail tech Voyager but hate it. Its back lighting is horrible. Let me know. If I can wire this in to my bike. I will buy it
You are talking about the OBD data. I do not think it would work since if the bike does not have an OBD port. But I know little about this. You should ask in the DMD2 user group on Facebook. I'ts very active and the developers are answering a lot there also.
Hello. I used gloves that have rubber covered fingertips before I got the little joystick from Carpe iter. And there were no problems, except in the rain, but then it doesn't work without gloves either 😎 /Seymor

Well done. The Garmin Navi on my BMW is really bad. Navigation with Google Maps is better for me and has already helped when Garmin was stuck in its algorithm and didn't know what to do anymore. The Carpe Iter and its possibilities is a real alternative and gives me hope.👍
I use TOM TOM Raider.
Since I leave Germany for my North Cape trip the way I should choose in a roundabout is directed against the traffic ! It show me to choose the right way of a split.
Drive around 100 Meter the arrow changes to the left lane!
I typed Geiranger via his tablet in the TOM TOM and finished in Hellesylt ! That is on the other end of the Geiranger fjord.
I too check with google normally the way. If I belive only in TOM TOM, read three sentence earlier.
The intro was so funny 🤣. I don't think that the Garmin guys are interested in going that far. By the way the new cave is nicely improving.
Thanks 😊
Bonjour Robert,
Super présentation du Carpe Iter !!!
Je viens de le commander pour ma ténéré 700.
Pourriez-vous m'indiquer quel support ou tour rally utilisez-vous sur la ténéré en vidéo ?
Merci beaucoup,
Antoine
🙏👍🏻 www.prototypeteam.com/product/rally-tower-pro-yamaha-t700/
Thanks man 😊 yes i use google maps and other apps also. Google even works with the controllers
Great work in every way! Thanks!!
Tackar :)
looks good it will give existing navigation devices a hard time in keeping up
Super presentation. Am planning to buy one. Have emailed them regarding maps for East Africa. They promptly responded. My XT is up for sale.
Cool 😎
Cant wait for the update. Great tool, I just wish the early bar button had the joy stick, may need to upgrade.
Epic intro. Swapped my XT Zumo for the Carpe and fitted the nav buttons either side as you have Robert. They might be upside down though as I can't operate it properly which is a big distraction!
Thanks. You can just flip them?
Fantastic stuff. Love it
interesting devices, and good review. Now I want to test it myself
Thanks 🙏 Garmin is very bright but Carpe is close or the same. But I haven’t seen them next to eachother.
Danke sehr Norbert
absolutely awesome video, hopefully i can have this nicely mounted on my BMW GSA soon in a cradle as I had to bring my NAV 6 to the dealer yesterday its suffering from the all well known issues after 5 months where the screen behaves irratic and i can't control it anymore......
Haha thanks!
Wow thanks for sharing this Robert! I love the concept, because I currently run a Garmin Zumo and an iPhone on my bike. They both have pro and cons, so I run them simultaneously on certain trips.
Thanks Donny!
Love how you swapped the mirrors around after your session with Anders Olofsson 😁.
Aaahh you noticed 😊

I hope you can also do a review on the Carpe Iter adventure?
Great video 😂
And great timing - my boyfriend and I are still struggling with the Garmin devices (especially because of the missing Linux support for decades...). So it's great to learn about other devices. We didn't hear about this one yet (we are still beginner riders). So thanks! =)
Looking foward to hear of this with more experience!
Glad to help :)
I am laughing so much. You should have your own comedy show. Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for an early morning laugh before the sun rise.
Well good morning 😊
@@NomadSweden It was a funny morning, thanks to you. 😁
Entertaining and informative, as usual. Thank you!
No, thank YOU
I loaded DMD2 into my tablet. Even though i have not been able to use it, just playing around with it, really like it.
One thing that bothers me is no no auto routte, and having to use that Garmin software to make a route and then load it into tablet.
Running other android app, like radar scope (if call sig) will be a lot help as trips i take, weather can change in a heartbeat (bad storm reroute, well avoid anyway)
Actually what i just said is not really correct.
The next thing you’ll want is a new version of the Swiss Army knife.
You are a funny man!
Yes bring it on 😊 Thanks
Great intro, Robert. And outro with the "real" oohh! We should try that with Frankonian beer. What is important for me riding offroad is a digital map that's crystal-clear and easy to read in a nanosecond. I have Garmin 390 trackmode and the Czech Mapsource navigator on a rugged Chinese Android smartphone, so two systems at a glance. But your DMD app coupled with a large screen looks much better. Food for thought. Thanks for your ideas, Günter/Nürnberg
Thanks Günther. I will try the ÅÅhh with Franziskaner Weissen tonight.
Det här är den bästa inledningen som jag har sett! 🤣
Haha tackar
very good video!!! I would like to know how you make your routes. Is it possible to do it directly on the smartphone and how Or should it be prepared on a computer and then transferred to the smartphone. If you have links/videos I would be grateful if you could provide them. Thanks in advance
Thanks for your question. I will make a video about this soon because there is a new route planning tool coming.
@@NomadSweden Thanks!!! Looking forward!!! Greetings from Bulgaria!!!
I’ve just got it with a Samsung galaxy tab3 it will tack some learning as I’m a Apple guy lol
Yes it's a learning curve (or de-learning?)
Very interesting I do like it.
That intro was fun ! And the device itself is gorgeous but it will take a lot of domestic money laundry for me to be able to purchase...
Thanks. But you don’t need the device as mentioned. Just an Android device and a controller
To transfer GPX to Zumo XT, you need Garmin Drive..
I don't understand Garmin's logic to have a different app for nearly every device.
Hallo, for coolant temperature and rpm you need an obd lx, you know if it's possible to put an obd also on a old moto like the Africa twin 750? Thanks
I do not know, sorry
Nice put in scene
Great video mate! ❤
This is GREAT! Is this what Noraly (ItchyBoots) is using in Series 7? Excellent video, excellent setup! All the best, Rob in Switzerland
Many mistake ItchyBoots setup for this. She uses a tablet that looks the same but is not Carpe Iter and she uses OSMand app for navigation 😊 But she is closing in 👍🏻
Nice! How do you highlight the unpaved roads?
In the new version, available only as beta right now but will come soon, it is a setting. Turn it on and it will highlight
So…
What to say?😂
Just bought the Tablet, Adventure control and the mount for my GSA, a lot of €:s….
Hope the next version of DMD2 is coming soon.
And Robert, more videos about how to operate and how to install, and optimize this things.
Maybe I can pay you a visit, when the snow in Dalarna has meltet.
I will bring some local beer….😉
Hej hopp!
You had me at beer! Welcome!
a perfect Video 🔥🔥🔥
the funny introduction hits the topic exactly: what do you need today to navigate - not just on the road, but for example the TET or a road book tour?
@@NomadSweden i am too - and i'm pretty sure it won't be an android system...
Thank you.
Already time for a follow up video 😊
Garmin XT has the unique advantage, at least so far, the display works with motorcycle gloves, plus the brightness in the sun. For me, it would be a maximum advantage to use this display with an application like DMD2. Maybe the possibility to resoft the Garmin XT with DMD2...
Indeed, newer Garmin devices runs on Android, and I've seen video of someone running DMD2 on Garmin Tread.
Cheers!
Great stuff.. Yes I do hope for that 😊
Brilliant script and acting; the Garmin part at beginning.
Thanks :)
I think 64 would be ok
Good video - volume was very low in sections - had to keep changing the volume to hear.
Ah ok didnt realize. Thanks
Great infos, thank you so much, man.
🙏
Nomaden, tech nerd you are! And I am too. I'm trying to find a decent android for bike use with DMD2. Thinking about the Ulefone Armor X10, which is quite cheap, and hopefully capable of navigation.
Thanks! Yes the Ule will work fine
He's Superman! A pair of glasses and nobody knows it's the same guy =)
Haha 🕺 💨
Interesante . Todavía no se como garmin sobrevive. Creo que se han quedado atrás hace mucho tiempo. Soy gran seguidor del canal. Enhorabuena por tus contenidos. Espero que viajéis pronto al sur y podáis venir por España. Un saludo.
Interesting . I still don't know how garmin survives. I think they have been left behind a long time ago. I am a big fan of the channel. Congratulations on your content. I hope you travel to the south soon and you can come through Spain. All the best.
Thank you :)
I’m very close from getting me one of this but I’m very intrigued to know how does it compare to the On X off road system. I wouldn’t like to have 20 gadgets on my dashboard..
Excellent video btw !!!
I have the Garmin Montana 750i but I want to upgrade
I have a question. I just bought a brand new 2024 Honda Africa twin so it has CarPlay in android auto the question is since I already have a screen to utilize could I not just buy an old android phone? Can you install that software on the phone and then use the screen on the bike instead of buying a tablet.?
I am not sure if CarPlay can show any app on the bike screen. I haven't tried and not seen anyone do it.
Great video. Is the device on the bike connected to the phone or how does it get it’s data? And you also can navigate without cell-service?
It can use shared internet from phone or its own sim card. Its just a tablet.all maps are offline and need no internet
Great explanation and a really great channel. Congrats. By the way, can you use the roadbook with the smaller phone-type device as well? Cheers.
Thanks 🙏 yes roadbook works on smaller devices too
Great Intro 😂😂👍, and very nice video, with great explanations, as always. I have the Zumo currently, but hmmm, let’s see, I like this one also…
I run DMD2 on a tablet and a Garmin XT on the handlebar on my AJP PR7. Navigation is much easier and more fun with the DMD2.
Which tablet do you use?
@@carvalhonj Its a Samsung Galaxy tab. Was delivered with my new bike.ruclips.net/video/86_hQBDvlsA/видео.html

Great video!
Hello, does the Doogee phone work with gloves?
Great video.
Tks.
Hello. I used gloves that have rubber covered fingertips before I got the little joystick from Carpe iter. And there were no problems, except in the rain, but then it doesn't work without gloves either 😎

Hey, this looks really good. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to connect it with 690 / 701 ECU as well? Very interesting 🤔
Thanks. Not sure about a tutorial but you need an obd reader for the bike. The rest is bluetooth.
Can you set navigation like directions from point a to b
When its ready yes
Wow just wow awesome
Awesome de ice and set up Rob. This is how ut should look like from factory at ADV Bikes. 👌 Like the high vis of gravelroads. At the Garmin i have do do or download a "type modifier" to get the gravelroads more visible than the asphalt. I wonder how much Your friends and AJP Coop for AJP's future versions of their tablet? Might look into this as well. 🍺🍺🍺Ahhhh, Tjommi has practiced som on that but soon we are there as well 👀😂🙌
Thanks! Ajp runs dmd2 already so they will be updated for sure
