Nice informative video Alex. I am in the midst of producing my documentary some of my material I will have to rely on for fair use as it is short news items that relate to my investigations, ie from web and radio news. Is there going to be major issues with Filmhub as this is what is done alot for documentaries?
Thanks a lot! I can’t tell you 100% as it’s not something I’m super familiar with. I would recommend continuing educating yourself not only on fair use, but how to go about something that’s not considered fair use. I’m sure there’s tons of content of documentary filmmakers who touch on the subject. As crazy as this sounds, I was doing a lot of my research for my film back in 2018/2019 where there still wasn’t a crazy amount of info. However, I referred a ton to these lawyers I’m linking below. They wrote a book on various legalities when it comes to filmmaking. This video in particular is about the use of logos in film. I counted like 500 something logos that appear in my film, and all of them were considered fair use. Obviously, I don’t recommend relying on a book or RUclips video for legal questions 100%, but it’s a good starting point. I would also recommend maybe finding a lawyer who can tell you if your clips would be considered fair use. I knew someone that worked at a big firm, pitched what I was doing, and they gave me a deep discount to check all my legal stuff. I spent around 2500. It’s just one option. Wanted to mention as a case of “you never know unless you ask.” ruclips.net/video/64WGwD6VIhI/видео.html
They set a rental or purchase price and you get 50% of that. So if you charge 10 dollars for someone to buy it you get $5. If you charge 2 dollars for a rental you get 1 dollar.
@alexsrednoselac thanks Alex. I just watched one of your other vids where you talk about it. Appreciate the info. I subbed . I currently have films on tubi, but i was curious about other aggregators. Keep up the great content.
It’s just going to depend on the length. You can’t have one in the first or last 5 minutes and then you are allowed to have one every 8-12 minutes. You want to find natural breaking points so you not be disruptive. A 90 minute feature for example could have 10-15.
Wow! I am happy to have come across ur video! It is very helpful! I was asking myself: How can I sell my movie(s) to thoes platforms... I am writing from Germany. Do u maybe know if this filmhub service is also useable in Germany?
Great question. Indie Rights is a traditional distributor, but they act like Filmhub in a sense. They do an 80/20 split. They will get on you select platforms. Biggest difference is they require an exclusive contract. I believe it’s a three year term.
Thanks a lot! And I found this via Filmhub: One title per Audio Language. If you wish to upload multiple versions of a title in separate audio languages (dubbed) then submit as multiple titles. If just subtitled/captioned multiple languages submit as one single title.
Thanks this was very helpful. Re chapter breaks, when you say "maybe don't put chapter breaks in your actual movie, but put them on filmhub", what exactly do you mean ? How do you do this ? Also, do different platforms have different demands (for instance, one might ask for a break every 8-10 mins, but another asks for a break only every 15 mins) ? Or will putting a break every 8-10 mins work for everyone ? Thanks :)
It’s entirely possible, but Filmhub just has a general recommendation. I think the only major platform they don’t serve is Netflix. I’m currently on Tubi and Vudu’s AVOD and I didn’t have to make accommodations to the platform.
Hi Alex, how to work with audio files, how to make minimum -24 LUFS. What does it mean audio must not clipped and centred ? How to deal with music copyright? is it possible to use classic music without problem with copyrights?
For the audio, I assume they want the audio balanced. Can't be too loud. Clipping means your audio is too loud. You'd need to use a video or audio editor. With copyright, you want to use royalty free music otherwise you'd buy the rights to whatever music you want. I highly recommend using royalty free music or hire someone to create original music.
@@alexsrednoselac If i use royalty free music, do i need to follow specific rules or I am 100% secure of not getting copyright claim? Do i need to put Author name of music song from where i use it in my video. can i skip put name of author of song if I modified song or music. If someone created music or song do I need put his name in my video.
Hey Alex - just watched your video again and you mentioned that Amazon was one of your channels, but it's no longer there. Does this mean that they removed your title and if so, did you see a "removed" status next to your title? Just got selected for Tubi and hopefully it'll be delivered soon. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey Shaun. Admittedly it was so long ago that I don’t remember. Filmhub also isn’t great with reporting stuff like that, so all I recall is that it disappeared. When I did notice that (I just had UK with FH) I started doing prime UK myself.
Alex what the best programm to fix , adjust audio files , to change LUFS, to balance and make better quality? is it any free programm for short audio online ? thank you.
@@alexsrednoselac I submitted for a series. I uploaded three episodes. Then it gave me the submit button, once I submitted, after a couple days it came back and said "actions needed" but it's not telling me what needs to be done for it to be approved

Thanks for sharing that with me. I think I got it but I will see what I try to do this. I still have a number of film festivals to select my movie, when do you start to apply to Filmhub Please?@@alexsrednoselac
thanks! I don't think it's required, but you're going to have a really hard time getting on any worth while platforms without it. Highly recommend getting that done.
Render a higher quality file from your main project if you don’t have a high quality master file. You can’t re render what you have. It can’t get better
I'm thinking of submitting to Indie-Rights. We have a business bank account and an LLC. Do we still need our LLC at this point if we're no longer making the film? Thanks for your great videos.
You run a massive risk not having a LLC throughout the lifetime of the film. If you get sued, you can lose all of your personal assets. It's great you had it during production, but it's more important to have it during the release.
Hey you mentioned you could upload the music queue sheet with other documents. Can you send some of those to me? I’m about to upload my video and want to make sure it’s all good. I don’t have an EPK either
If I ever find the time I would be happy to do that, but if you notice my lack of posting you can see i haven’t had a ton of time to work on my personal projects. Likely would be faster for you to do some Google searching.
Hey Alex - saw your video again and so thankful you have made this. I have another question I was wondering if you might be able to help answer. My title has a "delivered" status next to it and it's delivered to Amazon...I was wondering based on your experience, does this mean Amazon has accepted it and it will go live on the platform or are they just reviewing it? Also, based on your experience how many weeks or months did it take for you to see other channels picking your project up? Very new to self distribution so any advice would be greatly helpful. Thanks so much!
Thanks Shaun! Once it's been Delivered you should be all good. It might still take a couple weeks to get going. Delivered is the final stage before it goes live. You're basically just waiting for it to show up on the platform. In my experience, it can still take 1-3 weeks. I've been on delivered for Apple TV for about a week now and it's still not shown up there. However, once I was delivered on Vudu (also recent) it showed up pretty quick. It seems like the smaller platforms usuall y go quicker than the larger ones. If I recall, it took 3 weeks to get up on Tubi. I know because I sat there and checked it everyday until it went live lol. I'm not 100% sure of the entire procedure, but once you get to selected you should be good. I had Hoopla show up as "Declined" for me, but I don't ever recall seeing any other status. There was a period where I wasn't checking it frequently, so I could be wrong. But I haven't had a platform decline me once I was on the Delivered status.
@@alexsrednoselac Thanks so much for your reply. Fingers crossed my project will go live soon on Amazon. Also, from your experience, how long did it take for other channels to start picking up your project? I guess this all depends on the channel, but FilmHub usually consistently markets projects correct?
Before the chapter breaks it was every once in awhile. Even if it was frequent it wasn’t anything worth while. After I added chapter breaks, it’s been every few months. I noticed it comes in waves too. Once I got on Tubi it was pretty slow. But recently in the last two months I got Vudu, Apple TV, TCL, and Cinedigm. So there’s period where I won’t see much and then four or five will come at once.
Nope. It's all non exclusive, so you can upload anywhere they don't offer. You can't upload to Amazon yourself anymore without paying, so keep that in mind. But Vimeo, RUclips, etc. are all fair game.
Hi! Thanks so much for the detailed information! Question: If I decide that I no longer want the film on Filmhub or any of the platforms that the film has been accepted on, am I able to remove it? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I'm not 100% sure, but I would assume so. I couldn't find info on this. they request you email them for any changes. I would assume this includes removing titles.
thank you so much but i have a question my film is in production and a lot of music is from the companies triune digital and pond 5 royalty free music, will i still need to do a music sheet providing proof that i purchased their music. one of the company's just provide their lic contract with my order number, and again thank you, for your video
You don't have to do anything, but you have a better chance of getting on more worthwhile platforms if you do as much as you can. I also used music from Triune and from services like Pond5 and made a cue sheet. I just found a template online and fit it to what I had.
Hi Alex - this is very helpful! I wanted to ask if music cue sheet is necessary if I only used sound effects/music from Final Cut Pro? Also, in terms of image release forms, what if I used an image from an online source that has no copyrights and the license is free. How would I go about getting a release form for that?
Hey Shaun. Thanks a lot! I only used the music cue sheet for music I actually licensed. They don’t actually require any documents. I personally did it just so I had a better chance. Most of my music came through Artlist, so I actually uploaded that license as well. For the stuff that isn’t copyright, I just left it alone. Hope that helps!
Yes. It's all non-exclusive, which means they don't have your film exclusively. If it was exclusive then you are limited to other platforms you can distribute to.
Thanks so much for sharing this info. I have question regarding production company. If the film is self produced without a company, should I just put the main producer's name? Would not having a production company adversely affect being accepted by Filmhub? Thanks so much!
I have my own company so I used that. Even if you make one up. Does it require you to have one? You can likely leave it blank. When Filmhub lists themselves as the studio on the platforms, so I don’t think it would make a difference. If they don’t require you to fill it out I think you’re safe. Otherwise I’m sure the name is fine.
Im a independent film maker From india. Can i login here and upload my few films but i dont have any US tax id and foreign tax id.? Can i earn money here throgh my indian bank account.?
If you just did, it’ll probably take a couple days before it appears. As far as when it goes into a platform. You’ll have to keep checking on the platform. They don’t tell you when it shows up.
There’s no winning. One way or another you’re going to get screwed. If you can’t live with that, don’t make films. Or at least don’t expect anyone to watch it because you’re only option is going to be RUclips and no one will watch it there.
All of these platforms have it in their terms of service that is they go bankrupt they would have the rights to your film. That’s an evil you’ll have to deal with if you want to get your film out there. If you want to get your film seen you’re going to have to play by their rules. I’m here to try and help guide you through the path of least resistance.
They do work with Hulu but I'm going to assume they only select top tier content. I'd love to see my film on Hulu, so here's my putting that out into the world lol
Run from Filmhub, iv had the worst experience ever. Truth be told I kinda chose them after watching many videos like this, that are very informative and helpful nonetheless. But, my experience was a complete disaster. I spent three years making a great feature film that qualified for the 2023 Academy awards. I had done amazing marketing and advertising producing including traction. After 3 months they paid me $2:35 and would not provide any data, they are not transparent in anyway and lied endlessly.
I'm sorry that happened to you, but lack of transparency is a streamer problem. Streamers are notoriously bad at reporting analytics. FIlmhub is just the middleman reporting what ever information they are given. And honestly it's not really helpful for you to say "run from Filmbub" without offering some insight into other options. Indie filmmakers already have limited options for distributing their films, so telling people not to use it because you had a bad experience isn't enough.
Thank you, Alex! This is brilliant! I'm considering Filmhub, since as I am also a musician I am familiar with similar online distributors for music (cdbaby, distrokid etc), and the concept is pretty much the same. I've just read through the whole contract and I'm admittedly troubled by article 3, which I suppose means that they may start charging for some service of theirs that we are already using, or can change their charges at any time -- have you had any such experience? ("Paid Services. Certain aspects of the Services (including any Channels owned by Filmhub or one of its affiliates) may be provided for fees and other charges, which may be on an a la carte, subscription, or other basis. Filmhub may add new Services or features of the Services for additional fees and charges or add or change fees and charges for existing Services, at any time in its sole discretion."). I'm also a bit concerned about the Bankruptcy article, because, if I understand correctly, it states that in case of Filmhub going bankrupt, they can actually keep the license and also make derivative products from our material. I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I understood from this: "In the event of your bankruptcy, you and Filmhub acknowledge and agree that the licensed rights to Your Content hereunder are fundamentally in the nature of “intellectual property” as defined in Title 11 of the United States Code entitled “Bankruptcy,” as now or hereafter in effect, or any successor statute (“Bankruptcy Code”); that Filmhub’s continued enjoyment of all licensed rights is fundamental to the basic license hereunder; and therefore all licensed rights should be deemed intellectual property subject to Filmhub’s election under Section 365(n)(1)(B) of the Bankruptcy Code. You and Filmhub agree that the definition of “intellectual property” in Title 11 of the United States Code also includes trademarks and service marks, as trademarks and service marks are inextricably linked to the other intellectual property to which rights are granted to Filmhub under this Agreement. You and Filmhub agree that upon any election by Filmhub pursuant to Section 365(n)(1)(B) of the Bankruptcy Code, Filmhub will be entitled to, on its own or through employees, contractors, agents or otherwise, upgrade, modify and develop derivative works based upon the rights licensed hereunder. In the event of Filmhub’s Bankruptcy, you agree that, notwithstanding Section 365(c)(1) of the United States Bankruptcy Code, Filmhub may assume this Agreement and may assign this Agreement." Any thoughts on this? Sorry for the long message!
Thank you for the kind words! And I’ve never read this stuff closely enough, so I appreciate you bringing it up. I never been directly charged for anything. The only time they charged me for something was for adding ad breaks to the movie like I mentioned in the video. However, they charged me on the back end instead of a fee upfront. Could be related to that? If they started charging up front fees I would have to take that into consideration compared to what I’m making. They are still claiming the license is non-exclusive. As for the bankruptcy, I think this is probably going to be the same situation with any platform like this. We can’t win overall if shit hits the fan. So it’s all a calculated risk. I’ve actually already been victim to this. I had a deal with a theater chain to play this movie, they went bankrupt, and I lost all the revenue. The odds are always against us when we try to make money from our material.
@@alexsrednoselac I'm so sorry to hear about your negative experience, Alex, and thanks again for all the help. I've contacted them regarding this and they said that the charges would be for services that they offer (e.g. captions etc) and that we can terminate the contract at any time without any penalty and our material will be removed from the platforms once we do so. So I guess one way around it would be to keep being informed about how things are going for them, and if something doesn't look good, we could withdraw our material before they go bankrupt. Yes, the odds are against us, whatever we choose to do; at least Filmhub seems more transparent than others.
I was going to say also (but forgot) keeping up with news and if there’s any murmurs about something like that to pull out as soon as possible. It’s tough regardless. Appreciate it! Watch my 15 things you didn’t know about filmhub video. There’s a chapter marker.

I don't think there is such. I shot my film on a Blackmagic Cinema 2.5K, which was their very first model. It's not like Netflix.

Great info, thank you. Did you end up doing a video on music cues? And do you have one on chapter breaks?
I don't have one, but once I get back in the groove I'll be happy to make one.
Wanted to mention as a case of “you never know unless you ask.”

Incredibly helpful content, Alex. In a nutshell. 🤔 Massive thanks! 🙏☕️🎩🎩🎩
Thanks a lot John! Glad you enjoyed it.
Could you please let me know how much you get pay per view in Prime Video Direct or how it works? Thank you
They set a rental or purchase price and you get 50% of that. So if you charge 10 dollars for someone to buy it you get $5. If you charge 2 dollars for a rental you get 1 dollar.
how can I upload to amazon prime uk from the USA do I need to have a bank account?
Thank you 😊
Great vid! What about closed captions? Did u do those or will they do it for a fee?
There are many third party services such as Rev that I would recommend using. I don’t recommend doing them on your own. Too many issues.
@alexsrednoselac thanks Alex. I just watched one of your other vids where you talk about it. Appreciate the info. I subbed . I currently have films on tubi, but i was curious about other aggregators. Keep up the great content.
80/20 is a very good spilt actually
It’s probably more costly in the long run, but I agree for having no upfront costs
Hey Alex, when you say Chapter breaks. How many would you suggest?
It’s just going to depend on the length. You can’t have one in the first or last 5 minutes and then you are allowed to have one every 8-12 minutes. You want to find natural breaking points so you not be disruptive. A 90 minute feature for example could have 10-15.
Wow! I am happy to have come across ur video! It is very helpful! I was asking myself: How can I sell my movie(s) to thoes platforms... I am writing from Germany. Do u maybe know if this filmhub service is also useable in Germany?
I do not, but let me know if you can!
Thank you!
Is there a difference between film hub and indie rights? Not sure if this question has been asked.
Great question. Indie Rights is a traditional distributor, but they act like Filmhub in a sense. They do an 80/20 split. They will get on you select platforms. Biggest difference is they require an exclusive contract. I believe it’s a three year term.

Hey Alex, it was sooper cool in details explained. I have a question, Can i upload mutiple dub versions of a film on filmhub?

It depends. If it requires attribution, then no. If it requires attribution, then yes. They will list whether or not it needs attribution

For film hub captions would I use the ai captions or the regular captions in order to receive correct srt file for subtitles?
You run a higher risk of it failing, but you can try. Just make sure you thoroughly check them and correct anything that doesn't look right.

They might have some info on their site too.
How long did it take you to get on Tubi after passing QC?
I don’t remember exactly but I think it took a few weeks. I recall it being rather long.
@@alexsrednoselac Awesome, thanks so much!
Once I upload a film to Filmhub, am I forbidden from still self-distributing on something like Vimeo?
Thank you!

@@alexsrednoselac Thanks so much!!
Can you release your film on these platforms and RUclips channel?
Yes. It's all non-exclusive, which means they don't have your film exclusively. If it was exclusive then you are limited to other platforms you can distribute to.
i have a question,i dont have a production company,im freelance/independent filmmaker,what i could do in 4:26 ?
I would make something up or use your name. You could also create a DBA as a cheap option.
How do you do the text tracks? It keeps rejecting those for me
Do you mean captions?
Thanks so much for sharing this info. I have question regarding production company. If the film is self produced without a company, should I just put the main producer's name? Would not having a production company adversely affect being accepted by Filmhub? Thanks so much!
I have my own company so I used that. Even if you make one up. Does it require you to have one? You can likely leave it blank. When Filmhub lists themselves as the studio on the platforms, so I don’t think it would make a difference. If they don’t require you to fill it out I think you’re safe.
@@alexsrednoselac Yes I did reply and with a lengthy explanation explaining everything, and it has now disappeared from this thread?

Netflix not doing so well. 😂😂. Sick burn. They better take indies or they will continue to lose.
As much as I agree I don't see it happening.
I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I understood from this:
"In the event of your bankruptcy, you and Filmhub acknowledge and agree that the licensed rights to Your Content hereunder are fundamentally in the nature of “intellectual property” as defined in Title 11 of the United States Code entitled “Bankruptcy,” as now or hereafter in effect, or any successor statute (“Bankruptcy Code”); that Filmhub’s continued enjoyment of all licensed rights is fundamental to the basic license hereunder; and therefore all licensed rights should be deemed intellectual property subject to Filmhub’s election under Section 365(n)(1)(B) of the Bankruptcy Code. In the event of Filmhub’s Bankruptcy, you agree that, notwithstanding Section 365(c)(1) of the United States Bankruptcy Code, Filmhub may assume this Agreement and may assign this Agreement."
Any thoughts on this?
