"The seeds are not GMO" Gets pests and mold. This is the whole point of GMO plants, which is to make the plants naturally resistant to pests/disease/mold.
the more ppl buy they im sure the price will go down since R&D will make these more inexpensive to the everyperson. TBH every household should have this.
@@michaelt9245 There not much R&D as people have been using this method for decades and there already cheaper/better products. The only thing new is the cameras/support/sub. The system looks to be having multiple problems as algae/mold/ root rot. Honestly, just research hydroponics for a few hours online and you can probably put together something cheaper and more effective. I have 3 bird eye chili plants growing outside on my lanai using the Kratky method. Most homegrown farmers probably fail because they don't research before growing.
This was the best review of the Gardyn I’ve seen. Thanks for being so real! I still want one but we’re going to attempt some DIY hydroponics first and see how we like it. Thank you for the video! Very helpful!
@@RainnMakerr There are a TON of videos on RUclips showing you how to make one yourself for a fraction of the cost. And the idea of spending $39.99 a month so you can get 10 seeds is laughable.
Bridget, I think this is one of your best stories. Please make your own YT channel, to be able to watch your videos more often. I mean, you have your own YT channel for sure, but you should go for it appart from CNET.
i was going to stop watching at $800 but i stayed. then you said SUBSCRIPTION! and that is where i went to my next video. this company is trying to have its cake ($800) and eat it too ($30 a month)
Yeah given that lettuce seems to grow best on these things and most things like tomatoes and peppers would get too big/be limited to small varieties, like just get one of those countertop ones like the aerogarden and save yourself the hassle and money. Supposedly they even go on sale every now and then as well
Or just build your own. This concept has been around for ages. You could build your own for $250 and not pay for a month subscription. $39.99 to get ten pods? Really?
There is plenty you can do to extend the usefulness of gardening indoors. Spices are very expensive, so you can dehydrate your herbs such as basil, parsley and thyme among others, use your chamomile, mint and lemon balm to make your own teas. calendula flowers in olive oil makes a wonderful healing oil for your skin and burns, you can make seasonings and condiments with your peppers and tomatoes. It’s not just for salads…but it’s definitely a convenient way to help cut carbs from your diet.
A great presentation: informative, witty, sardonic, self-effacing, attractive, well spoken and a mellifluous voice, plus 2 cute kids - an ideal combination! I could watch this group watching paint dry! (This is not a serious suggestion for a future program!)
One good thing about COVID is it's fun seeing people's actual lives. Cute kid, I love how you involved them in the video and review. Also, $800 is way too much. Then they want $30 a month for $30 worth of seeds per year? Also, no.
Food grade hydrogen peroxide (3%), wiped onto the green fungus with a q-tip, would have gotten rid of it without killing the plants. Thanks for the video! So how often do you clean the insides of the tubes? I heard that you have to disassemble everything to clean the tubes, is that correct?
I just got mine and some of my y-cups aren’t budding but they told me I could add the food thanks to my Kelby spy cam lol. I have a tower garden as well. It’s all a learning curve. I hope my fairy tale eggplants grow.
Thank you so much for your thorough review! I was searching for a system to grow greens for my family and this review gave me a good sense what to look for.
This thing is like 700 dollars. You could do the same with 20 bucks of pcv pipe, a 50 dollar light assembly, two five gallon buckets, some fertilizer, seeds (that you can place in a cheap cup with that medium), and a small fish tank pump. Maybe a bit of string to support the growing top heavy plants and a rod or two for vines to grab onto. I guess you're really paying for the cameras and live support. Either way, not a bad video. The product looks cool and user friendly, but I don't need my plants connected to wifi lol. The "Smart devices" are getting way out of hand these days.
I just purchased this as an ambassador my question is I was wondering what a good mix of seeds should I choose I’ve seen a lot that don’t thrive like yours
AeroGarden has much better products for A LOT cheaper when on sale. Normal price for one about this size is $700 rounded. When on sale like today, it's dropped to about $400.
Fabulous video as always, Bridgette. But you missed one other problem. This company will not last. Which means in a year or so you'll lose access to that app, those cute little pods, and assistance when those lights or pumps inevitably fail. Sorry, this isn't sustainable.
Actually, it is sustainable, you can easily buy rockwool plugs online and your own seeds. Nutrient mix for hydroponics is quite common nowadays as well.
This is great I’m wondering if the temperature in your house had anything to do with the ones not growing. I’m currently waiting on my system I’m guessing I couldn’t pick my seeds they pick them for you . Think the membership is worth being the quality and let’s be real how often do you go to the produce department and you only see the same stuff that you have to eat in two days and you have no idea where they came from also with the option to buy each cub for 5 bucks - I’m going to use one system for indoor plants that enhance the oxygen and clean the air that might also boost the plants growth
The problem with Gardyn is not only do you have to buy the unit but the accessories/maint is so expensive. Not only that but to use all of the benifits you would have to pay a monthly fee......ya no thank you..... I went with iHarvest and couldn't be happier
Great review ,being horticulturist I appreciate your script writer. This device worth for hobbiest and its extensions might produce daily veg for your house ..try it too
Very cool concept especially as i like growing plants (Did it with Chilli's in the past) and this makes it easier but its too expensive and the pods produce a lot of plastic waste.
Lettuce needs pruning and lots of light to avoid bolting!! Really I wish they would have set up the lights better on these systems, you can see how stretched the plants got when they grew outside of the optimal lighting
Wow how do I get a job trying out all the gadgets. 10 years ago I used to drive and blog about new cars, new lorries and my favourite, new motorcycles.....but gadgets from home has got to be far more awesome.
Loved the review but I have to say your . I would love to have one of these but could never afford it (no wino's here LOL we just face facts) Thank you so much for the education delivered in a delightful and fun way.
I think smart hydroponics would be great if the cost wasn’t so high .... also how come the gorgeous Bridget looks younger every time she posts a new video😊🤔 her daughter is very cute and adorable.
Hi Bridget/CNET-can you say more about how you sprouted the pods before putting them into the garden? I have the same trays from the container store that you do in the video. I’d rather use those than the “nursery” that gardyn is selling for $70. Did you just add water to the bottom of the tray and leave the pods alone till they sprouted? How much water? Did you also sprinkle water on the pods themselves? TIA
I used to have a Aerogarden system. But what these systems should always come included whit , are fish! Fish would be very helpful to EAT ALL THE BUGS attacked to your plants! But those types of systems are not popular yet.
Wow, I did not expect CNET to cover something like this. Fantastic video! Entertaining and informative without trying too hard to be entertaining! You touched on my concerns with something like this. Those replacements pods are creating a lot of plastic waste.
Might be better to just replace the fillings
Or cardboard
I agree, paper and cardboard are not an alternative though as they would rot with the watering
I believe they're compostable in a industrial compost facility
Plastic waste is virtually harmless when disposed of in first world countries.
