@@douger1517 yes, Byron seems to be most popular followed by Broome. The 3 we mentioned are only ones we thought were over rated. Lots of things effect our experiences don't they. Weather, people we are with, whether we catch any fish or not lol 🤣
Totally agree with all 3. Everything you said about Port Douglas and Karumba, plus the fact I felt sick for about 6hours after the fish and chips at a cafe at Karumba, and there's no freecamping options but the caravan parks are cramped and bedlem! Did enjoy the sunset though, after which we drove back to the Normanton freecamp where we'd left our vans. Then the thing with Julia Creek is we'd have loved to try out the freecamp there in 2019 but stayed at the CP purely for the tubs, only to find out after paying and checking in, that the tubs are no longer included but an extra $50 ($25 each from memory) on top of the $30 site! Forget it, did all the washing instead and used the pass to go to the pool next door. I said "but it has been advertised everywhere for the last year about the tubs being part of your caravan park stay" and the reply was "yes but the council changed their mind about a month ago and put an extra charge on it". Well I can't imagine needing a bath badly enough to cough up $50 for it when I've already paid for power and water and could make my own hot shower if I didn't want to use the amenities block. We felt totally screwed over. Also on the note of the baths, there was to be a timelimit despite the fact we were one of 2 vans in the entire park at the time. Goes to show how popular it was, not. No other artesian "pool" has enforced time limits, just recommendations of advisable periods to get out then back in.
1. Port Douglass - Totally agree. We did a day trip from Mossman 4 weeks ago. Not worth the effort. 2. Julia Creek - Will be arriving there tomorrow. Weather should be fine (but a little cool). Apparently there are new caretakers who seem fine on Facebook (I don't trust Facebook though). Don't follow Rugby League so not an issue. Our dog is black and it should not be muddy anyway. Will be wary of the pub feed costs. 3. Karumba - Totally agree. We were there last winter. I thought then that the only reason to visit would be the fishing. Glad I didn't waste my money on a fishing charter.
Totally agree with you about Port Douglas. We just did a day trip from Cairns to see the area. Overpriced to the hilt. Haven't been to the other two yet.
Byron Bay was popular on our Facebook page last week as over rated, and a few said Airlie as well. We love Airlie Beach, just a shame there's no good low cost camping there. Thanks for watching :)
Great video, I was in Julia Creek two weeks ago absolutely poured with rain ended up staying in the top pub thoroughly enjoyed the food and beer bed was comfy, spot on with Port Douglas. Safe travels
Thank you. We didn't have much footage for the video for obvious reasons lol :) We just wanted to keep things real, you don't always love everywhere you go and that's ok.
Port Douglas has a river and when there is heavy rain the silt from the river runs into the water . However it is scenic around there . If you think Port Douglas sand is bad , you need to visit Cyprus . Most beaches have crappy sand but the water is clear and in Ayia Napa the lovely sand is imported from Egypt . The majority of their beaches are heavily commercialised and are not very natural. Far too much restaurants, bars and clubs and ugly sun beds . I think Bowen in Queensland has beautiful crystal clear beaches . I think the Gold Coast is a sight for sore eyes .
Port Douglas was a beautiful little village when I first visited there in the early 70s. Now it is supposedly a Tourist Mecca. I agree with you it is over rated. Julia creek is also way over rated I fail to see what all the hype is about. I have stayed in The Creek on several occasions for both work and leisure reasons. Karumba however is different. It is certainly a huge fishing destination and that is where the hype comes from. Not being a big fisherman myself I was not overly impressed but I can see why the place is so popular. BTW I am a North Queenslander.
Haha, it's a popular opinion for sure. The beach is good, most Eastern part of Oz, food good, fishing, surfing, so I can't rate it in my top 3 but yes, pricey, busy, too many nutjobs lol
We're spoilt rotten when it comes to beaches in the SE corner of Qld , I'd go as far as saying they're world class. I 've worked up throughout NQ, and it's much overrated compared to the rest of QLD. One of the best areas for fishing is going out off the reefs in Cairns. Most of those places, like Cairns and Airlie target Chinese and US tourists. The food in Cairns alone is double what you pay in Brisbane. Not saying what old mate from Julia creek did was right but many of the locals up there are like that because tourists just trash the place. He probably spends most of his time picking up their rubbish.
Agree with Karumba. Sue and I were there a couple of days ago and a couple of hours would have been sufficient. And that includes the sunset. Unlike you though, we thought the sunsets were pretty good.
Hi mate :) Yes, there really not much to it. The sunsets are good, but not as good as many other places lol If you come through SEQ make sure you let us know :)
As a Western Australian. Busselton and Esperance are my two over priced and over rated places. I may be biased we live in the Pilbara. Love your content guys. May be we are over critical of our home states
I totally agree and would add barn hill station as well.
Haha. We loved Barn Hill, getting pricey now though.
Thanks for watching 😀
@@IndefiniteLeave we went to Barn HiLL with a young family so maybe that was the issue but the others wouldn’t get much disagreement. Fifth is Byron.

Thanks for your comment. We didn't know about the extra charge to use the bath but not surprised I guess.
Absolutely agree about Port Douglas 👍👍👍
Cheers :)
Agree with you as well on Port Douglas

Fair enough, quite a few people choose Broome, we loved it 😁

The most over rated place in Australia if not the world would have to be Byron Bay by a country mile

Worst sandfly/midge attack ever at Karumba.
Lorella Springs for me. Overhyped, overpriced, and underwhelming...a poor man's Kimberley (actually shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence)

Bruny Island Tasmania. Very overrated even though Tassie is my favourite state in OZ
Grossly overated I agree! The attraction for Bill & Hilary Clinton had to be a port of convenience for human trafficking.
not like theres a shortage of trafficking ports. Did those predatory grubs go there YUK
sounds like whinging to me.
