    Our Betty Crocker Cook Book is over 55 year old. My wife's mother gave it to her when she left home 55 years ago and it was used.

    Watching you cooking in an RV makes me Jones for our RV.
    You're making a full meal for a family of 6. Thinking about the cleanup.... E-gads. Thats a labor of love. It warms my heart seeing your sons eat without complaint. I fed my oldest boy dinner tonight, no complaints, but then again he is....41!! 😳

    I look at a cook book and change the recipe to what ever feels good at the time. except of course biscuits and pie dough

    • @TheHollarHomestead
      @TheHollarHomestead  6 лет назад +1

      Biscuits and pie dough have to stay the same. Although... sometimes I'll even get crazy with the biscuits and add cheese and herbs. 😉

    Y’all are so cute. Such a precious family. I am from Baton Rouge, la and I’ve lived here all my life and that’s how I cook beans and greens also. Have a blessed day. I still say Texas would be a great state to settle down in.

      I've been in the Baton Rouge area for over 50 years, and while I knew potliquor was a thing, I didn't know the meaning (aside from it being the name of a local band in the 70's! 😉)

    One thing I like about our trailer is that by the door going outside there is a little sink and two burner stove that folds out. Handy for what you were doing. Yes I was told if making southern dishes you can never have too much butter. lol

    • @TheHollarHomestead
      @TheHollarHomestead  6 лет назад +1

      I do wish we had that little area. We have a propane valve on the outside so we could hook the stove up, but Ben would have to make a shelf thing.

    Hi. I've just started watching your channel because I saw you on Justin Rhodes channel. When we go camping we cook on 2 electric hot plates outside. Sure beats propane! I admire you guys for going on the road with a young family to find your new homestead. Many blessings to you!

    don't know if you'll see old comments, but had to laugh over the butter. It is a showstopper when it happens, and you've got your tastebuds all set for biscuits. Once, in a desperate moment, I made biscuits using Ranch dressing to replace the fat & dairy... they were actually pretty darn good and I did it a couple of times just for a change in flavor. Not as flakey or 'just right' as normal biscuits, but they were biscuits when my milk had gone bad and I forgot to buy butter.

    I so wish I were a fly on the wall, or better yet, there with you guys. I love the way you chat back and forth. I was thinking the entire time you were making the biscuits (without butter) that you are going to wish you had butter to slather on them, haha. I bet they were yummy and would have been especially good with honey on them. Maybe not with the meal you were having (that looked yummy too!). Ah, who am I trying to kid. Biscuits with honey (and butter) are delicious no matter what you are eating along with them! You are a gourmet cook compared to me, Meg. I've never even had collard greens, let alone know how to cook them in a yummy way. I've learned so much from you two already!

    Baking is somewhat of an exact science. At least where using baking soda and baking powder is concerned. I make scratch made cinnamon rolls no recipe but I do measure my yeast.
