Interesting idea! Have you played the game Magikarp Jump? They have gobs of Magikarp varieties, most of which are based on real koi patterns. One that would be interesting to see is how you tackle show BIRDS. Show budgies are fascinating and while we sadly don't have a budgie pokémon, we do have two parrots with unique crests.
I haven't played that game! I don't even think I'd heard of it until now. I've definitely seen art of Magikarp with koi patterns and those are always pretty! There's so many ideas I have for this concept and I definitely wanna tackle some of the bird 'mons even if I don't currently have ideas for what I'd do with 'em. Even for Deino and Growlithe I'd love to go back and fully flesh this out 'cause I could absolutely do more there.
6:12 Actually, differing colors was done in the game and I think it could easily be brought back! Pokémon Stadium 2 (and I think 1?) had a mechanic that selected a hue shift for any Pokémon based off of their nickname, trainer's name, and their trainer's ID. It can make some Pokémon look wildly different, like having a green Abra! Smeargle also just comes in different color varieties in the game separate from the HSL value hue shifting. It's very cool!
Kinda reminds me of the trend years ago where people would draw different breeds of pokemon based on the different parents that they could have with egg groups. The one I remember the most strongly was of someone doing it for a bunch of chikorita, my favorite one was the snorlax chikorita.
I like the idea of having wild and contest look of pokemon. I can imagine contest pokemon Deino being born from egg by trainer so they never had a change to experience the harsh environment that lead to scars. I wonder if the presence of real scar would disqualify a Deino in a show now.
I've recently mentioned a "banned from breeding Rayqyaza morph Ekans" in my fanfic. These have wobble. A mentioned character had a rescue non-battler. Another form mentioned is a silky/scaleless hydrageon, even *more* irritable than usual. Also the main character is a pokemon groomer. "Gonna groom them all" on Ao3, if you are interested. Plus, there are mods that allow some variation in colour, and fixes for unidentifiable shinies. I know there are for emerald and inclement emerald, platinum and renegade platinum.

I like to think though, that doesn’t take away from the novelty or rarity of a shiny Pokémon! As a dog trainer there are “puppy mills” that often are portrayed as “purebred” but in reality “show dogs” live to a much higher standard. Genuine breeders who have legs on their dogs (marks of quality are called legs) take great care and attention to each dog they care for and as my father was a beagle breeder when I was a child and went all the way to New York to obtain a very rare color coat (practically a shiny in our world “blue tick” if you know you know) and in doing so he spent hundreds of dollars to get her fixed so she could live because of a genetic mutation that caused biological complications with the birthing process. I can tell you LOTS of true show breeders care DEEPLY for these dogs and make sure they go to good homes…. I can’t say the same for rabbit and pigeon breeders but dog show breeders are 100% safe people i haven’t met a single one who didn’t care deeply for their dogs. As for the fact people spend mountains of money on “pure breeds” rather than rescues and the “designer dogs” I will make it clear that show breeders have clauses that you cannot breed their stock unless you spend more money to obtain breeding rights. This is to help with population as well as prevent them competing with their own stock in shows. It’s sometimes even required of good breeders if you don’t plan to show to fix your dog. Not saying you shouldn’t adopt always opt to adopt when you can I have even seen breeders like my own father had adopted dogs. But in cases where the particular temperament or behavior is required. Such as allergies a sedimentary lifestyle. Small location. Work to be done. It might be more beneficial to buy from a show breeder whose stock has show legs.
As for the practices themselves…. I don’t endorse “show features” Docked tails don’t actually cause any real harm since it’s done quite young and most docking is because of genetic issues with the tails. as for the ears…. I don’t enjoy that is a feature as it causes many problems. Sloped body’s are… a thing and breeding a dog till they can’t reproduce or breathe is awful! Not to say actual breeders don’t do their best with the show restrictions they are given but the requirements of show are in fact awful. I recommend you also look into cat shows as cat shows are more ethically sound.
@@Broke_horse_girl cropping can cause the ears to be less protected and require cleaning more frequently. I have a dog Breed that has both docked and cropped tails and we decided to keep his floppy ears and it was way less ear cleaning then we were told we would have to do I have a mini schnauzer. We also shaved him as opposed to the pull of standard show coats Ultimately he was a very good dog for the tasks we were requesting of him hence the reason for a purebred. In the end his nub was adorable and his floppy ears were indeed preferred. But if you take good care of the ears then it’s hardly an issue to have cropped ears. His father had cropped ears and was perfectly fine. Also cropped ears when not done properly even by professional show breeders can leave the dog feeling sensitive about their heads… Ultimately you have to be EXTRA careful when cropping and if you get a poor crop job your pup will be very uncomfortable for the rest of their lives.
Well said! Ethical breeders do truly care about the well-being of their dogs. They aim to produce healthy, temperamentally sound dogs that will live long and happy lives with their families.
Fun fact the springer and the cocker used to be the same dog till they became specialists of their own parts of the hunt and a show beagle looks WAY different then a working beagle same with yourkie terriers it’s often insane the difference between yourkies and their temperaments The vast difference of a “show” can make is insane!
@@swiftfeather147 That's a good question. If you look closely, peaked ears dogs are always dogs traditionally used for defense or at least for a real job and not just being a cute baby in a household. Scientists found out (in an experiment with foxes' domestication) that the hormone for aggressiveness was directly impacting ears rigidity. So when humans chose the cutest and friendliest of dogs to breed, we unintentionally chose the dogs with lesser and lesser rigid ear's tissue. But what about working dogs ? No one wants a guard dog that will play with intruders. So those dogs weren't bred for friendliness. Therefore, they don't have less rigid ears than their wild counterparts.
*steals idea as headcannon * Also,i wonder if they could've found a way to make the show pokemon lighter! Imagine a competition between show deino and then you see an ethereal like white one :o
A bit of constructive criticism: your explanation in the beginning is too long. You are being recommended in the algorithm but I couldn’t get through the video because I got tired of listening to your explanation which goes one for a third of the video. Your art is great! Make the actual content of your video a bigger part of it!!
Yeah I actually agree. Rambling even if I'm scripting things out is an issue for me. I think I've done a little better on past videos with the balance. But this is definitely something I'm going to keep working on for future videos!
i agree, the long intro wasn't a dealbreaker (for me at least, i like the video overall btw =]) but it is a prime example of the wadsworth constant, lol. rambling itself isn't bad, i quite like slower paced videos with lots of detailed explanations, but the problem with it is that it's interrupting the video rather than adding onto it, being diffident about the topic. confidence is key!! we're watching because the idea is interesting, you succeeded at making a video, you don't need to apologize for not making something different or having a life outside of youtube ^^ i think just putting up the art on screen a few sentences earlier in your explanations (e.g. at 7:10ish) might help the pacing feel smoother without having to rewrite anything, and it could give the alternate color/pattern drawings more space to breathe, too! i do also like the gifs and images you put on screen as examples throughout the video
@@IsrabelleYes this is exactly what I meant! Thank you for phrasing it better! It’s fine to have rambling or extra info it just needs to not distract from the topic. If there had been drawing a bit sooner it would have been totally appropriate!
i feel like you can expand this concept just a bit further with working breeds! i thought of this when you sad you redesigned growlithe, as the police use growlithe
A pokemon I'd be Very interested in seeing your take on would be any of the cat pokemon, Skitty, Purloin, Meowth and the like. Glameow and Purrugly especially, considering the latter is literally meant to be an Ugly cat. Or even starters, especially considering there could be two branches a starter goes through - either the partner of a battler, or the partner of a competor. It could be interesting!
What do you mean ethical concerns? Breeders are THE MOST passionate animal people I’ve ever met. They acknowledge the issues with Backyard breeders and try to help people understand the breeds they love so much. I’ve been to several dog shows and they are wonderful.
I mean, that’s kind of anecdotal evidence, going to a few good dog shows doesn’t necessarily mean that there aren’t problems in the industry. It’s important to acknowledge these things for the sake of animal welfare, so that hopefully we’ll have breeders like the ones you met ^^
@@gdogdogdogdogdogdogdogdogd8948 There are problems in every industry. With any animal. That doesn't mean the whole industry is bad like you guys are making it out to be.

Overall I do feel you could have describe the info shorter because I must admit the intro felt like rambling rather than getting the main point. Though I love the concept so I hope I want to see more different pokemoj concepts overall.
OMG YES IVE WANTED TO DO THIS FOR A WHILE TOO. I LOVED contests growing up and I love the idea of different forms for "well bred" mons. Another idea Id love to explore is pokemon changing based on what category they specialize in, like dry pokeblocks increasing beauty, so how would that translate design wise to a pokemon?
Really cute idea! It's like getting to indulge in showdog stuff without supporting the [stuff we won't get into here]. I really hope this catches on, and ideally you'll get the credit for it if it does.
@@zoroarkking18It seems like they wouldn't like to explain, sadly. However, I can shed some light on it! There's many dog shows that will not allow dogs that lack confidence (that comes with respectful treating and training of the dog) to compete, and will not allow dogs who are visibly malnourished/injured to compete as well. Show dogs must be kept in top condition and behavior, and this means that show dogs are incredibly spoiled! Besides, many of them are pay-to-compete and do not reward money, so harming the dog for money isn't a factor as well.
Dog showing is actually one of the most ethical ways to prove a dog is healthy and sound! Show breeders (MOST) go above and beyond for their dogs (and cats) providing them amazing lives, while breeding structurally and temperamentally sound dogs You get A FEW who just breed for money but it's rare in show breeders

the Pokemon Stadium games for the N64 having color variants for nicknames can also be a good precedent for your colors headcanon! There's some pretty wild variations, especially in Stadium 1. Lots of cool concepts in this video, I love this kind of fleshing out of the Pokemon World.
Oh my goodness this is a cute concept. If you ever do more of these, it would be cool to see maybe some ghost type Pokémon or Pokémon that don’t really have a quadruped body type
i like this idea of a pokemon breed show. i think there was once a episode during the johto arc. and people breed pokemon a lot in the games but not much detail is show in the anime like what the pokemon are use for or if they breeding them to have more power or something. i mean they never show the difference between wild pokemon and breeder pokemon

IM GOING TO CRY THIS IS LIKE ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITE POKEMON VIDEOS EVER. I LOVE SHOW / SPORTS DOGS AND SEEING SHOW POKEMON??? OH MYGODS PLEASE MAKE MORE RHEGHAHA
Scoring would work how it does in dog shows. I'm not sure those have a number score but each pokemon would have a written standard that they're being judged against and judges would be like experts in those standards. Like in dog shows first each breed competes to see which is best of breed then that winner competes to see which is best of their group then that winner goes on to compete for best in show. Colors don't really matter. It's more about their size and stature and weight and all that jazz. Like if one Deino's physical appearance matches against the standard better than another Deino's, then that first one would be the winner. I hope that all makes sense. ^^;
This concept is really interesting! I'm really passionate about ethical breeding and showing dogs, but I've never thought that there could be a similar thing with pokemons too. The desing you're created are very pretty, I would like to see more pokemons If you're up to it OwO

For the growlithe logically the bred ones should have floppy ears, if you look at people trying to bred properly Domesticated fox they've found the domestication process creates fox with floppy ears Quick Google quote "In the domesticated foxes, morphological aberrations such as floppy ears and curly tails occurred in addition to changes in standard coat colour. These morphological traits are also characteristic of many domesticates, mainly dogs "
Ooo I really love this idea and I think your art style is perfect for bringing it to life! I want to say- have more confidence in your self! There’s a lot of self-doubt in this video. You don’t have to explain yourself for your needs or what you love :3 just show us because it’s cool! I loved hearing your inspiration behind the designs too
I love the idea of pokemon having different looks based around breeding, raising, stats and especially what species the parents were. I always found it weird all the pokemon look the same as the mother in the breeding pair with no physical traits carrying over from the father even if they were a different species.
I think a cool alternative coat/color for Growlithe would be a white due to the base coat being similar to a tiger. The Hisuian form could maybe be called marble or something like that given they are rock type

Wild Deino have a natural slope to their spine, presumably as a result of having stronger forelimbs (compare a giraffe or hyena).
It could be like a hyena thoo 👀

Me, as berries, but that's a cool interpretation too!
It says that in the wiki I thought? That they're bruises lol
I don’t think so, because the color of the spots change when it’s a Shiny.
I think the lilipup line kind of does this. It goes from puppy cut, working cut, to show cut for a mix of terrier/toy breed dogs.

I love magikarp jump!!! So underrated!
i am a dog groomer and a massive pokemon fan i feel like this video was specifically catered toward me!!!!!!!such a fun watch
Its also in pokmen tournament
Kinda reminds me of the trend years ago where people would draw different breeds of pokemon based on the different parents that they could have with egg groups. The one I remember the most strongly was of someone doing it for a bunch of chikorita, my favorite one was the snorlax chikorita.
I've never seen this concept before great art!
Thanks so much!
I know there are for emerald and inclement emerald, platinum and renegade platinum.
whoa, I might have to check out that fic
Omg, you're using reptile terminology for ekans and you even mentioned the wobble present in some morphs!
Furfrou is the pokemon's show dogs, I think it would be neat to see new coat patterns and colors akin to real dogs
1:30 dog shows are actually really good and all thos breeders love and care for their dogs. they all come from ethical breeds who health test and so on
@@Broke_horse_girl wow you really need to look some YT-Vids about the topic nowadays. there are people who do this but BY FAR not all are like this
@@SwissStrawberry dog shows are all about the dog... most people lose more money then gain, all they care about is the health and well-being of the dog. You should do more research
@@Broke_horse_girl they are all about the prices. not the dog. you can literally search for 1 documentation on the topic and see that I'm in the right.
but i see, arguing with you will lead to nothing because you cant educate yourself.
@@SwissStrawberry have you ever even spoken to some one who shows dogs? You're mixing back yard breeders and unethical breeders with ethical breeders
@@Broke_horse_girl yes, a good friend of mine is one of the ethical breeders.
I think you don't understand that there are unethical breeders on shows too. and there are more than you would think. i know that from my friend. she was also shocked to see other breeders not testing for HD or other genetical diseases because it was too expensive for them. and they take this dogs to shows and let them breed with other dogs with HD which is unethical too
I’m a dog conformation exhibitor and here is the RUclips algorithm absolutely FEEDING me rn. Pokémon contests were always my favorite but if they ever did pokemon confo shows I’d be in literal heaven :’)
Deino's tail can canonically grow back, so it can't be docked
unless they dock it every time it grows back. I could definitely see some doing that
@@darknessangelic6953 considering it's already illegal to dock dogs tails in multiple countries, I think that would be considered a bit iffy... Especially since Slowpoke tails are illegal in Pokemon, and they've brought up the fact that cutting a Pokemon's tail off is a criminal offense in universe.
@@Candjstudios2024 Idk about that... In Pokemon Sleep Slowpoke tails are an ingredient that you get from the Slowpoke line. You can also use it as an ingredient in the curries in Gen 8 (It's called Smoke-Poke tail but... still). Slowpoke do regrow their tails though? So that might have made it so it isn't illegal, but it might be different according to region.
@@3amhellbeast pokemon likes to forget what inconveniences them. Like the time Pikachu gave people seizures and they blamed it on porygon. Or the time they were racist. Or the time they did the nazi salute, the time inflatable boobs, or the time ash was nearly pumped full of lead, or the time pokemon referenced porn.
This is so cool! Now you got me thinking!
For the pink pokemon, it was due to a berry, so it would be fun to see some folks aim for that in a nonharmful way.
There are also cat breeder's associations and cat shows... I can almost see pokemon such as Espurr/Meowstic and Sprigatito/Floragato/Meowscarada having their own in-universe versions of Cat Shows, Cat Breeders, and Cat Fancy Clubs...
I love love this idea!! I love the purebred dog world so it’s kinda nice to see something like this??
THIS. Purebreds are the best
5:31
Although we only really see two color variations for Pokémon, like how others have said and in the examples you gave, further color variations for Pokémons do exist. I like to think though, that doesn’t take away from the novelty or rarity of a shiny Pokémon! While variations in color are common I headcanon that shines are akin to something like albinism, an uncommon color variation that is significantly different enough to be classified under a specific scientific term.
Idk if I’m making much sense or anything lol, just kinda talking about ideas I thought were neat and interesting
Omg- i love dog shows!! Ive been on them since i was in my mums stomach lmao 😭my mum runs in the rings with our two showdog american cocker spaniels (we have 6 non-dog showes one)- i would some times help, but since our second showdog died...i haven't been in the ring alot.
all i can imagine are specially bred Rockruff who's rocks have been bred to look like different kinds of gems or crystal...
Ooh, that sounds pretty.
I don’t endorse “show features”
Docked tails don’t actually cause any real harm since it’s done quite young and most docking is because of genetic issues with the tails. as for the ears….
@@m0thernature730 there is nothing wrong with docing or cropping when done right
@@Broke_horse_girl cropping can cause the ears to be less protected and require cleaning more frequently.
I have a dog Breed that has both docked and cropped tails and we decided to keep his floppy ears and it was way less ear cleaning then we were told we would have to do
I have a mini schnauzer.
We also shaved him as opposed to the pull of standard show coats
Ultimately he was a very good dog for the tasks we were requesting of him hence the reason for a purebred.
In the end his nub was adorable and his floppy ears were indeed preferred.
But if you take good care of the ears then it’s hardly an issue to have cropped ears.
His father had cropped ears and was perfectly fine.
Also cropped ears when not done properly even by professional show breeders can leave the dog feeling sensitive about their heads…
Ultimately you have to be EXTRA careful when cropping and if you get a poor crop job your pup will be very uncomfortable for the rest of their lives.
@@Broke_horse_girl theres also no benefit, vets see just as many issues in cropped and docked dogs as they do in natural.
Well said! Ethical breeders do truly care about the well-being of their dogs. They aim to produce healthy, temperamentally sound dogs that will live long and happy lives with their families.
PLEASE DO MORE!!!! I love concepts like wild vs commercial morphs
Fun fact the springer and the cocker used to be the same dog till they became specialists of their own parts of the hunt and a show beagle looks WAY different then a working beagle same with yourkie terriers it’s often insane the difference between yourkies and their temperaments
The vast difference of a “show” can make is insane!
Floppy ears is a trait of domestication... So no wild pokemon would have that.
I like this concept, it's funny
Ok so why do we have GSD, akitas, Shona inus, ect with perked ears
Therefore, they don't have less rigid ears than their wild counterparts.
breeders def breed more w a job and health in mind than color or patterns you did awesome :D
Now you GOTTA DO a Persian! That one is show tier! Love the curly Growlith though, what a cutey!
Oh my GOSHHH I LOVE THISSSS❤❤❤
*steals idea as headcannon *
Also,i wonder if they could've found a way to make the show pokemon lighter!
@@SombraMalamuttI actually liked the long intro. Everything is so fast nowadays and I enjoyed the details. It was nice.
@@SombraMalamutt I liked your long intro, it gives you more personality and people can always skip through the intros if they dont like it
i agree, the long intro wasn't a dealbreaker (for me at least, i like the video overall btw =]) but it is a prime example of the wadsworth constant, lol. rambling itself isn't bad, i quite like slower paced videos with lots of detailed explanations, but the problem with it is that it's interrupting the video rather than adding onto it, being diffident about the topic. confidence is key!! we're watching because the idea is interesting, you succeeded at making a video, you don't need to apologize for not making something different or having a life outside of youtube ^^
i think just putting up the art on screen a few sentences earlier in your explanations (e.g. at 7:10ish) might help the pacing feel smoother without having to rewrite anything, and it could give the alternate color/pattern drawings more space to breathe, too! i do also like the gifs and images you put on screen as examples throughout the video
It’s important to acknowledge these things for the sake of animal welfare, so that hopefully we’ll have breeders like the ones you met ^^
quick auestion do you know what the AKC is and the standards they set for show dog breeding/purebreds?
@@gdogdogdogdogdogdogdogdogd8948 There are problems in every industry. With any animal. That doesn't mean the whole industry is bad like you guys are making it out to be.

Interesting concept for art. I imagine the show pokemon or bred forms would be shown in Pokemon Contests. And I do think it would be interesting to see how they are implemented. Overall I do feel you could have describe the info shorter because I must admit the intro felt like rambling rather than getting the main point. Though I love the concept so I hope I want to see more different pokemoj concepts overall.
Contest-Style Pokemon and Wild-Style Pokemon
I love this! God It makes me wanna try to do this too...
Go for it! If you do, I'd love to see it!
Oh I LOVE this! Show Cat Meowth would also be an excellent group for this concept
You are clearly uneducated about actual dog shows
@@Silver_Ever I'm nothing if not willing to learn. Are you willing to educate me or did you just want me to know how smart you are?
Show breeders (MOST) go above and beyond for their dogs (and cats) providing them amazing lives, while breeding structurally and temperamentally sound dogs
You get A FEW who just breed for money but it's rare in show breeders
Love the art here! I think for Growlithe it could have a black furred variant, like a black jaguar. Also for some more ideas, I think Eevee would be pretty popular show Pokemon. Absol would also be fun to see! ❤️

the Pokemon Stadium games for the N64 having color variants for nicknames can also be a good precedent for your colors headcanon!

So, how would scoring go for the various colorations? More rare the coloration better the score?
Scoring would work how it does in dog shows. I'm not sure those have a number score but each pokemon would have a written standard that they're being judged against and judges would be like experts in those standards. Like in dog shows first each breed competes to see which is best of breed then that winner competes to see which is best of their group then that winner goes on to compete for best in show.
Colors don't really matter. It's more about their size and stature and weight and all that jazz. Like if one Deino's physical appearance matches against the standard better than another Deino's, then that first one would be the winner. I hope that all makes sense. ^^;
This concept is really interesting! I'm really passionate about ethical breeding and showing dogs, but I've never thought that there could be a similar thing with pokemons too. The desing you're created are very pretty, I would like to see more pokemons If you're up to it OwO

For the growlithe logically the bred ones should have floppy ears, if you look at people trying to bred properly Domesticated fox they've found the domestication process creates fox with floppy ears
Quick Google quote
"In the domesticated foxes, morphological aberrations such as floppy ears and curly tails occurred in addition to changes in standard coat colour. These morphological traits are also characteristic of many domesticates, mainly dogs "
You'd have to ignore the almost a hundred domestic dog breeds that specifically have naturally perked ears
So glad this was in my recs. So cool!

You don’t have to explain yourself for your needs or what you love :3 just show us because it’s cool! I loved hearing your inspiration behind the designs too
super interesting concept! good job!
Oooo if you do continue I'd love to see Ponyta/Rapidash and a cat Pokémon (Glameow maybe) since there's also show horses and show cats
