    Speaker reviews in a bare concrete basement? Yeah this is legit.......

      Just for the record, I watched this video a few months ago, saw this comment and totally agreed. I bought the speakers, and after hearing them, he couldn’t be more correct. The bass is finicky and hard to really feel down low and I absolutely cannot listen to them at high 70s dB levels for more than half an hour.

      I just purchased these speakers this month and they sound great. I don't even use a sub. I don't know what Zeos has going on here but this basement audition can't be right. I hadn't listened to cd's regularly in a longtime outside my car but listening on these speakers I hear detail I've never heard. Even clean vinyl records sound great with these speakers. The fact that the majority of people who purchased them are satisfied let's me know I made the right choice.

    I'm not sure how you can judge the sound of any speaker in a room like that. It appears as though it's an unfinished basement with no room treatment or drywall or anything really. Jmo

    • @mysock351C
      @mysock351C 3 года назад +1

      Concrete is way better than drywall acoustically, I can tell you that. Since the "ceiling" is fiberglass insulation, all it needs is acoustic foam on the adjacent walls and maybe a thicker carpet, and its good to go. It wont be visually pleasing, but it will be an acceptable environment acoustically. People fail to appreciate just how bad plywood subflooring and standard 5/8" sheetrock is for acoustics. Its lossy (allows sound, esp. low frequencies, to pass thru), it vibrates like hell, and is very non-linear in its response. Concrete has near infinite acoustic impedance, so the sound that does bounce off it is not altered at all, unlike sheetrock. Edit: Listening to the demo I can see what he is saying, and the problems there cant really be blamed on the room. Id be more inclined to have a close look at the rest of the setup first if it were me before condemning them in a review. But I dont think the room is the issue, here.

      @@mysock351C I agree that concrete is better! My system in my basement, with both concrete walls and floor. However the concrete is sheathed with 1/2 inch drywall, and floors have wall to wall carpet. Ceiling is also finished in drywall. Sounds good to me. Bare concrete walls are too reflective.

The Br03s corrected any shortcomings that the Minis have. They have plenty of bass, the highs are smoother and the mids come forward right where they should be. You're doing folks a diservice.

    Come on Zeos, this in not the environment to test speakers, you should know this, speakers are tuned in anechoic chambers, you might as well grab a generator to test your speakers in the middle of field, it's genuinely ridiculous.
    I will give you one peice of sound advice (pun intended), having a nice large space like that I would be looking to build a sound treated room down there for speaker testing, it would be pretty easy to construct and an interesting project for viewers, just use construction grade lumber for the frame and thick MDF hardboard with sound treatment attached internally.
    EDIT - Unsubbed, been a long time subscriber but you've lost a lot of credibility with this review, you genuinely can't honestly believe that you can accurity review speakers in this type of environment surely?, it shows a lack of the most basic understanding of sound.

In a normal room they can sound wonderful. These are very special speakers, please try and listening for yourself first before deciding. My old speakers were Mordaunt Short ms902s and as soon as a reasonable volume was reached the bass collapsed and the metal dome tweeters decided to literally kill you. The Bro3's not only reach this with authority, but bass output that will surprise you; and yet it will still have excursion to spare after!
    Yes, the Bro3's have a annoying hump at the mid treble which not only add detail but brightness, but the simple invention of modern eq fixes it by lowering around 6khz by a decibel or so. Even so the soft dome is a saving grace.

The triangles sound is more "present and forward" in the midrange.. NOT BRIGHT. In my opinion, tweeters make speakers bright, these arent that. Percussion realism shines on the bro3s. Many people have their home theaters/listening rooms in their basement. While the basement would be finished, "dry walled, painted, with vinyl plank flooring, some will have tiles, others carpeting, etc", they would also be wide open large living spaces with a low ceiling and hard surfaces everywhere. So these are definitely in a real world listening environment.

      @michaelgraham4042 2 года назад +1

      @@themastroiannis I still quite like them both. I feel like the BRO3 is a -bit- better in terms of tone. I use them in separate rooms now.
      A few observations: the bass extension of the 570s is definitely deeper than the BRO3s, enough that one could more easily get away without using a sub, where I would definitely recommend one with the BRO3s if you want anything bass-heavy. I still use subs with my 570s though. The height of the 570s is definitely awkward and yet I would be hesitant to use stands with them as they are very front heavy and will tip forward more easily than you might expect. Their footprint also makes using them with most speaker stands out of the question.
      That said, I'm very happy with the 570's in general and prefer them for high loudness applications like EDM at near-club volume levels.

    Zeos , the problem is your concrete wall and the vast emptiness of you space, not the BR03 ! Too much reverberation, bright echo with concrete wall, you need to cover with acoustic panel all around your basement and cover up your metal beams as well. Some speaker will react differently, more then others, with Echo places. I used to Own the BR02 , now i have the Br03 and believe me the sound exactly the same, just the BR03 have a little more bass and a little bit louder. Put back the Br02 and the Comete in your basement and they will not sound as good as in your old living room. Triangle they work wonderful in good acoustic environnement. Hope it help, have a nice day.

    • @yanturcotte7377
      @yanturcotte7377 3 года назад

      A common problem in modern living rooms: Hard, concrete walls, rectangular shape and sparsely furnished. The perfect environment for reverberation, one of the biggest obstacles to audiophile sound!
      Reverberation
      When sound waves hit the boundaries of a room, they are - depending on the material of the wall - partially reflected. This can cause a sound wave to bounce many times between two parallel walls, resulting in an echo. This reverberation is generally bad since it distorts the original sound and significantly reduces the sound fidelity/clarity. Bass becomes dominant, details are swallowed and voices are harder to understand. That’s why reducing the reverberation time is one of the main goals when optimizing a room.
      Each material absorbs differently, Generally, the harder the material, the less energy/sound is absorbed and the more is reflected.blog.keepcoding.ch/?p=715

    *CONTEXT*
    Room : 12 X 14 basically untreated
    Speaker : 5 1/2' to 6' apart and 2' from the back wall
    DAC : SMSL SU-8 ( using this to bypass the integrated amps DAC )
    Amp : IOTAVX SA3/PA3 in monoblock
    Amp does have tone controls, so I did drop the treble down by 2 and did like the difference. I have no issues with the bass in my room other than to get the most out of it I have to be about 10' away from the speakers, which is putting me dang near the opposing wall. Tried to move the speakers closer to the wall (about 18" from the wall) and the bass starts to get mushy but lets me get closer in by a lil bit.
    Not sure why Z gets the sound he's getting ( and I fully believe and trust it as accurate in his setting ) but something is amiss. I have to think there is something off with the speakers he got, bad batch/wrong crossovers maybe ?

    I was trying to "burn in" a pair of these (black ones with a "walnut" wrap) and had a similar response. Tons of treble but the midrange is mud. It's like you can hear so many details that it all turns to mush. They seem to have left out the music. I tried various amps, too -- new (Jolida tube FX10) and vintage (Marantz 2275, McIntosh C28/MC 2505) -- but they were too shrill AND murky. How is that possible? Another simile: It's like those 3-D posters where you're supposed to let your eyes go out of focus until the 3-D image appears and you focus on that instead of the surface. These speakers are still looking at that busy surface and aren't resolving a dimensional image. I swapped in some slightly smaller ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 B52s and some Wharfedale 225s and they immediately gave me a much richer, fuller (and deeper) sound. Maybe I just prefer a warmer sound.
    I'll keep the BR03s around a little while longer and see if they loosen up a little. But I was perplexed after my first few hours of playing around with them, which is when I discovered your review. I guess I'm glad it's not just me.
    PS. Maybe I'll try switching DACs, too. I'm using a Schiit Multibit, but I could try an iFi Zen, which is a little more airy.

    Get the Klipsch back and see how it performs in the room.

    Gonna comment before watching. Had these and loved them but they gave me a ringing headache everyday. I’d go to work and my brain felt like pressure was on them and a dull pain all day. I guess I found them too bright although I thought they were a joy to listen to sonically. I am sensitive to bright due to concussions so PSA I guess. Amazing imaging for gaming.

    These speakers need treatment and a good room. They’re alright.

    Sean from ZF loved this and promoted them as his speaker of the year. Not saying you're wrong and he's correct or vice versa... but opinions are arseholes is always a true analogy.
