Bigger pitch propeller on my inflatable sib boat to gain top speed. 2 x Top speed runs

  • My old propeller on my 4m honwave with 30hp engine was chewed up. It was a good opportunity to up size the pitch and see if we could get any top speed gains and better performance.
    I wasn’t really looking for more top speed as the boat was always fast enough for what we needed but what the heck, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!
    We did get a gain but nothing to write home about really. We definitely have significantly increased how fast the boat reaches plain speed!
    Overall the boat is performing better but is there anything else we can do to increase performance and stability at speed??? Watch this space!!!😉

    Check the air pressures in the water as they will drop.also noticed you had quite a bit of spray of your outboard leg.you might want to lift it higher on the transom.not the tilt but the hight.get someone behind you to see where your cavitation plate is on the plane

    Nice boat budgee and enjoy your vids! You should get 25mph+ with your rig! All on setup and weight distribution. Heres mine on solent at weekend hitting 30 in small chop

    I'm getting 21mph on sea and lakes with just me onboard with 20hp honda std prop. I'd love to achieve the same with 3 adults on board ,

    Engine sounds like its running at or almost top rpm, smooth run. You will get a little more out of it when you next time run in salt water as its more dense, creates less prop slip, and a mph or two more in speed!

    You need a tacho... just to check its reaching max rpm and also not over revving (although you'd tell as mine hits the limiter on my own)
    I would be happy with that speed myself.
    Make sure to run premium fuel to as it definitely helps me.

    22 mph for a 30hp engine is pretty slow my Yamaha 6hp on a t30 will hit 17mph

      @Budgee197  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, I know. I can’t figure out why it’s not better. Everything seems to be in good working order but just need to try some more adjustments to get the full potential from it. Really it should do well over 25-33mph.
      17 for a 6hp it amazing though, wow!😮

      @@Budgee197 make sure your pressure is at its absolute maximum especially in the keel, I remember 1 time while out on the lough my t40 wasn’t going over 20 mph I couldn’t figure it out, turned out it was an air pressure issue in the keel after I sorted it the boat flew engine revved out like it should and I hit 24/25 mph

      @@Budgee197a lot of the time the pressure will drop after about 10 minutes in the cold water, worth a try the next time your out see what your gauge is reading also you need a decent gauge 🤯

    • @stuartliamrae
      @stuartliamrae Месяц назад +2

      Yes will lose pressure from the cold water. Will make a difference. Also put all the weight to the back of the boat and put a riser block in between engine and transom around 1/2 inch to raise the engine/prop
