I don't know why people would even try to compare this to one of Jimi's or SRV's versions. It's her interpretation. She nailed it adding her own unique flavour with passion and confidence. That's what music is all about. I think anyone who ever played in front of an audience would agree.
Stellar performance 4 sure!!! I love all three versions. For me this is the best version live. Her and the school of rock's version of gimme shelter by the rolling stones is fn awesome as well.

actually, she is decidely average. I know thousands of guys who play in local bands who would blow her off the stage, but because she is blonde and cute, she is "amazing". Any lead guitar player will tell you, she is playing well, no doubt, but she isn't playing anything that difficult.

I think it is easier to play in such large venues than in small clubs with 500 people, because in stadium you are standing too far away and in small venues you have an eye contact, at least in my experience.

Orianthi's young enough still to be doing all the running back and forth to give as much as she can to the audience.. But I guess the adrenaline would be pumping..
Orianthi has been doing it for many years though. She was Michael Jackson's guitarist for the This is It tour, so she has the knack of working the big audiences and killing it on guitar at the same time.

You people criticizing her would have been making the same gripes about Jimi in his day for relying on "gimmicks", "butchering" the blues, showing off, being sloppy and out of tune, etc. He's your hero now, but you'd have been haters back when he was getting all the attention too. id also like to point out that music is always changing. even when stevie ray vaughn was coming about blues music was changing too. I love the newer blues today! as well as the older stuff. But the blues today to me is just a new more energized version of the older stuff like hendrix and stevie ray vaughn.

Haven’t seen this artist in a while. Besides the guitar playing, which is casually phenomenal, l really like how her vocals have matured. She’s added a strong voice with a natural country twang. It surprisingly compliments Voodoo Child.

I was watching Eddie Van Halen videos after his passing, started watching his “Michael Jackson Beat It” solo performances, stumbled across a comparison video of Slash and Orianthi’s Beat It solo performances, and now I’ve been watching videos of her playing for about 45 minutes wondering to myself how I’ve never heard of her before. You are not alone, I discovered Orianthi 3 months ago. She's never had a good agent/promotor/publicist. The way she plays on acoustic guitar, PRS, Gibson, whatever, is mind-boggling. Her style of playing is unique with shredding, using both fingers and plectrum in same song and taking strings down and up. Have you seen her clapping the guitar and chopping the string in two direction. She's born to play blues and her early renditions of blues classics are incredible. This is art of playing guitar Orianthi does!!

Pretty good. She did her own thing while still keeping to the soul of Jimi's playing. To many people try to replicate how Hendrix played and by trying to be overly technical they miss the mark.
I agree.. And I think anyone who tries to replicate or emulate Jimi misses the mark, fullstop.. You can learn any version of any of Jimi's songs note for note, and not come close to sounding like Jimi.. And besides, if he could get up on stage right now, he still couldn't get it identical to any particular song version, and he wouldn't want to.. Its about getting into the groove is what's important and let come what may...

She is an excellent performer. If you want to see how good someone is, see them live, or in a live recording. She not only has the chops, but she carried the ensemble. Her drummer dragged at times, but she pulled him along. Her back up had trouble with intonation for the first third of the song at least, but they didn't pull her off center. She holds her group together and still works the crowd. Impressive.
No. Jimi was been alive since 18/9/1970. This girl was born 22/1/1985. She is not keeping Jimi alive. When this girl passes away, Jimi will live on (unless evil takes over our earth).

This performance was absolutely in Jimi's spirit from all of the band. I have heard a lot of performances of Hendrix songs. The most of the groups prefer the "Hey Joe". Is not that often we can hear the Voodoo Child, which is for me the song I love the most and maybe the most difficult to perform. Well done Orianthi. You nail it!
dang, she can shred for sure, and it's a great cover for her thrasher style, but idk, I just the cleanliness of SRV, John Mayer, and Kenny Wayne's covers, can't beat that strat sound. But she is definitely good to perform this in front of a huge crowd! well done
I think she's going for mean not clean. Although I doubt she'll ever style like Eric Johnson I do think she's capable. Audience, atmosphere, amps, pedals, tuning, feedback, he'll even wind speed and direction. Variables. I like the rock n roll performance with the gritty flaws sometimes too.
I love how Orianthi has channelled this in her own style.. For someone who is so young, to understand the importance of this track, historically, and to include it in her set is very rare.. Yeh, hard to go past SRV's versions especially at the Royal Albert Hall.. But you should check out any of the RANDY HANSEN BAND's covers if you want to hear anything that truly comes close to Jimi's magic.. A big "if you want to"... Try "THE JIMI HENDRIX TRIBUTE CONCERT - LIVE AT ROCKPALAST 1991".. Randy Hansen playing there too... I know you'll love it...

I'm so glad I ran across this video as I've always wanted to know just who was shredding her guitar on an Alice Cooper tour a few years ago. I was fortunate enough to have seen Hendrix play this song live back around 1967 Yep, I'm a codger. I can not attest to all the technical jargon as I just play a mean stereo, but one can be glad certain music carries forward through the years. Well, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, & Pink Floyd.
I have one just wish for music before I die: That it won't be a gender discussion. I have never understood why guitar has to be a "guy thing". I don't think her gender is the issue here. She's performing a piece that was a staple of guitar masters Jimi Handrix Stevie Ray Vaughn. They are not held in the regard they are just because they had penises and mastered an impressive collection of technical abilities, but because of their musicianship. In my opinion, her musicianship is not up to their level yet and, unfortunately, by choosing this particular piece the direct comparison is obvious.

This video made me a fan of Orianthi and of PRS guitars. I've got a bunch of the PRS guitars now, and still look for any opportunity to see Ori live, because she always puts on a fantastic show.
I've seen very few female lead players and this is a tough song to cover. Namely because of those who have come before and honestly if you say listen to SRV's cover of Voodoo Child, and then listen to this you might say this version isn't very good. However she is obviously a talented musician one of the "greats"? Great female guitarist for sure. Is she a Jimi or SRV? Not yet but she's young give her 10 years.

When you do a cover, you can play it however the hell you want....that's the entire point of a cover. That's EXACTLY why we want to hear covers. If I want to hear Jimi do it, I'll listen to Jimi do it on his own damn record.

She does a good job of copying Hendrix. I've seen Hendrix live. He is an original with many that wish to copy. If she could WRITE and play something like this, then I would be impressed.

I was watching Eddie Van Halen videos after his passing, started watching his “Michael Jackson Beat It” solo performances, stumbled across a comparison video of Slash and Orianthi’s Beat It solo performances, and now I’ve been watching videos of her playing for about 45 minutes wondering to myself how I’ve never heard of her before. You are not alone, I discovered Orianthi 3 months ago. She's never had a good agent/promotor/publicist. The way she plays on acoustic guitar, PRS, Gibson, whatever, is mind-boggling. Her style of playing is unique with shredding, using both fingers and plectrum in same song and taking strings down and up. Have you seen her clapping the guitar and chopping the string in two direction. She's born to play blues and her early renditions of blues classics are incredible. This is art of playing guitar Orianthi does!!
Anyone who can get up in front of that many people with a guitar and shred with that kind of confidence has something going on.

Pretty good. She did her own thing while still keeping to the soul of Jimi's playing. To many people try to replicate how Hendrix played and by trying to be overly technical they miss the mark.
I agree.. And I think anyone who tries to replicate or emulate Jimi misses the mark, fullstop.. You can learn any version of any of Jimi's songs note for note, and not come close to sounding like Jimi.. And besides, if he could get up on stage right now, he still couldn't get it identical to any particular song version, and he wouldn't want to.. Its about getting into the groove is what's important and let come what may...

She's a great musician and a smart, good looking woman. And of course she rocks - she's Australian, born in Adelaide 😉.
She is an excellent performer. If you want to see how good someone is, see them live, or in a live recording. She not only has the chops, but she carried the ensemble. Her drummer dragged at times, but she pulled him along. Her back up had trouble with intonation for the first third of the song at least, but they didn't pull her off center. She holds her group together and still works the crowd. Impressive.

This performance was absolutely in Jimi's spirit from all of the band. I have heard a lot of performances of Hendrix songs. The most of the groups prefer the "Hey Joe". Is not that often we can hear the Voodoo Child, which is for me the song I love the most and maybe the most difficult to perform. Well done Orianthi. You nail it!

dang, she can shred for sure, and it's a great cover for her thrasher style, but idk, I just the cleanliness of SRV, John Mayer, and Kenny Wayne's covers, can't beat that strat sound. But she is definitely good to perform this in front of a huge crowd! well done
I think she's going for mean not clean. Although I doubt she'll ever style like Eric Johnson I do think she's capable. Audience, atmosphere, amps, pedals, tuning, feedback, he'll even wind speed and direction. Variables. I like the rock n roll performance with the gritty flaws sometimes too.
I love how Orianthi has channelled this in her own style.. For someone who is so young, to understand the importance of this track, historically, and to include it in her set is very rare..
Yeh, hard to go past SRV's versions especially at the Royal Albert Hall.. But you should check out any of the RANDY HANSEN BAND's covers if you want to hear anything that truly comes close to Jimi's magic.. A big "if you want to"... Try "THE JIMI HENDRIX TRIBUTE CONCERT - LIVE AT ROCKPALAST 1991".. Randy Hansen playing there too... I know you'll love it...

I was fortunate enough to have seen Hendrix play this song live back around 1967 Yep, I'm a codger. I don't think her gender is the issue here. She's performing a piece that was a staple of guitar masters Jimi Handrix Stevie Ray Vaughn. They are not held in the regard they are just because they had penises and mastered an impressive collection of technical abilities, but because of their musicianship. In my opinion, her musicianship is not up to their level yet and, unfortunately, by choosing this particular piece the direct comparison is obvious.

It's a shame this girl has not hit it big time, because she has a lot of potential. I think she has been managed to the wrong paths. There would be rock and metal bands that would want her as a lead guitarist and if I see her in one of those kind of bands, I will be a big fan of her!

I've seen very few female lead players and this is a tough song to cover. Namely because of those who have come before and honestly if you say listen to SRV's cover of Voodoo Child, and then listen to this you might say this version isn't very good. However she is obviously a talented musician one of the "greats"? Great female guitarist for sure. Is she a Jimi or SRV? Not yet but she's young give her 10 years.
