The Mississauga Transitway is good...and in all honestly it was the first real transit investment that Mississauga had ever made since creating Mississauga Transit, but it has a lot of flaws. The first and last mile problems are just horrible on this line. From the condos in Erin Mills being just over a km's walk, to the suburban layouts turning a 5 min walk to a 20min marathon, 1/3 of the line being relegated to the 403, to the lack of connections to other routes/GO Stations, etc. I guess the upcoming grid network should help with one of the many issues. But I guess the point of the line in the short term is just as a bus expressway to get people to the airport and the subway and off the 403. And it does make the bus ride a bit quicker.

I've taken the 109 Meadowvale bus along the Transitway many times - I basically use it as an express bus to go from Islington to Square One, so I can't comment on the Transitway west of there. During rush hour, this bus definitely saves several minutes over taking 26 Burnhamthorpe or 76 City Centre, though I haven't taken the latter bus in years. Overall I'm happy with this service, though outside of COVID the buses tend to be packed during rush hour. It would be nice if the Transitway was upgraded to light-rail capacity, but that might not happen for a long time.

This is pretty impressive infrastructure for a bus line. It's practically LRT without rails. The main issue I see from looking at Google Maps is that it doesn't really seem to go where people are. There's a whole bunch of stops which are just car parks, so you're essentially requiring people to drive just to get to it. Seems a bit of a waste to me.

I belive it is just to funnel people from suburbia into the city in a park and ride fashion, that being said I do agree with you, transit should work for people and not for cars!

I love the look of the D40LF! All the transit agencies near me have retired their boxy buses.

@@RMTransit GRT and Guelph Transit. I don't think Guelph ever had any, but they did have Orion VIs.

I won’t be surprised if the transitway is converted into LRT line like Ottawa.

Right... that’s a tricky situation, either they add another GO line or maybe , with Toronto making a western subway line going to Mississauga (not necessarily going that far but...), I know it won’t happen anytime soon probably never will but those are the most

@@magnabaddelta-thriller5603 Well now that Line 5 is going right to Renforth, it’s not at all crazy to think about making it go all the way down the transit way. Unlike the rest of the line, the alignment is already right there! You even have stations. The thing was literally designed to be upgraded to LRT. If it was Line 5, it would be operated by the TTC, but it would still be owned and built by Metrolinx, so it does not matter if it goes deep into another city.

We need to build more of these. Some are planned, like the 407 Transitway, but I think the Finch busway needs to be extended Eastward to Yonge Subway station and Old Cummer GO, maybe to the new Finch East GO station on the Stouffville line.
As well a Transitway along the planned Etobicoke RT, from Kipling station up to Renforth station on this Transitway would be a great asset too.

Good content to start the weekend right 👍👍👍 Though, seing those big stations surrounded mostly by sprawling parking lots breaks my heart a little. Are there any plans to build TODs around the stations? I see how living near a highway or high tension lines isn’t the most enticing idea in the world, but building rapid transit that’s so reliant on car use is counterproductive. I would be very disappointed if all the exciting transit projects in the GTA didn’t result in significantly better ridership and user satisfaction because of this fixation on park-and-ride.

The land immediately around many stations is sorta drab, but MiWay is doing good having local lines reach them, and will be doing more for that in the future. Just north of Erin Mills station, there's a bunch of condos going up around the Erin Mills Towncentre mall. From City Centre to Dixie, the line forms the boundary of low density residential to the south and commercial areas to the north. I haven't heard anything about intensifying those areas, but the city does seem to want to intensify in general, but seems to be focusing on downtown and Dundas St. (Which might get a Viva-like busway). After Dixie, the line follows a tight strip of office buildings sandwiched between the Airport and Centennial Park. Again, I don't think that place is going to get intensified any time soon. There's probably hight restrictions because of the airport, too.

What a gigantic waste of money. Nobody uses the busway, because it's in the middle of a highway. Mississauga should have done its own LRT across Eglington that could eventually hook up with the Crosstown in Toronto.

Interestingly, I saw a guitarist sing Sweet Home Alabama on the streets of Downtown Toronto...wrong country to sing that song in!

It should be an LRT because LRTs are more frequent and faster than buses. Also, cheaper to maintain.
