Having now ridden in many of these, I gotta say they really are excellent from a passenger point of view. Shit-tons of room and the glass roof is cool (like the old DeSoto Skyview cabs from the '40s). Now that the city has backed off of enforcing all cab operators to buy them, I'm glad they're a part of the scenery. In between the end of Crown Vic production and the beginning of the NV200 era, the NYC Taxi game got incredibly diverse and it looks like it's going to stay that way. I like seeing C-MAX, Fusion, Prius, Impala, Highlander, etc. cabs on the streets (there's way more even - Jalopnik did a big article a few years ago).
I never understood why NY Taxis were often Crown Victorias. Although reliable, they had bad fuel economy and not much rear leg room for their overall length.
This makes perfect sense!! No long hood and a lot of space in the back...also these USB ports and that climatecontroll in the back are great!! Good that they kept the yellow color!!¨
I wouldn't mind seeing this as a family vehicle with large glass roof and patrician to drone out loud teenagers! :-) 150,000 mile powertrain warranty?? Never heard of that!
Nissan NV200 has been officially discontinued for 2022 along with the cab. More then a few drivers preferred full size minivans like the Toyota Sienna or vans such as the promaster city or transit connect to the NV200. The TL&C in NYC made other vehicles available and drivers requested them as fast as they could
Wow, very cool! Love this video. I think Nissan needs to put the rest of its cars up to a 150k warranty! Id love it on my 370z! Great video here, made me laugh!
Dang, this vehicle was thought out very well by Nissan. I'm sure there was a massive amount of consultation, but it seems to me this is the perfect taxi.
Why trade in the Camry hybrid taxis for this? Nissan expects 21 mpg out of this in nyc but I'd expect lower based on how the drivers drive...Best points I can see are the great warrantee, cargo space, and added safety features
Nyc cabs are required by law to have a flashing light on the grill that's activated when the operator is in an emergency situation such as being held hostage. It's akin to a silent alarm that bank tellers have.
DigitalYojimbo Example: Can the driver use the 911 assistance light if the passenger is an expectant mother who has to run to the hospital? Or is it only used when the driver is in danger?
***** Maybe on a flat, straight road going exactly 60MPH, but in city traffic the diesel will yield only a marginal improvement over the gas engine. Moot point for Americans, since Nissan will never bring that engine here anyway. They haven't sold a diesel in the U.S. in 30 years. When the NV200 was first introduced as a taxi in NY, Nissan blew a lot of smoke up the city's ass about a forthcoming EV model which still has yet to materialize 4 years later. As a passenger, these are great taxis, but they're wayyyy more inefficient than the hybrid cabs they're largely replacing.
The CV looks nicer; the NV200 is more practical... I vote for neither one. I'd say introduce a modern version of the Checker cab: It looks great, has nostalgic value and it's a dedicated taxi. Just like they did with the London cab.

Reliability, and the full frame made it easier to repair accident damage.
***** and alot of them are dedicated Taxis with the special long wheelbase package.
*****
ITS SPEELLED MERICA
For the same reason Crown Vics are heavily used for Police and government duty. Ford pushed them heavily for fleet use.
They also had a lot of trunk space so going to the airport in them wasn't a big deal

Puke windows! Genius!!

I wouldn't mind to have one of these for my own use!
You can buy them used for about $10k. There are allot for sale online

I wish these had Column Shifters.

very cool! saw one the other day in NYC and was like what is that?
but I like it now
This taxi cab would be great and useful for Athens, Greece
Designed well. Could use more power. Looks different and new but it'll grow on people and will probably be the cab people choose first eventually.
Considering most of it's life will be in a traffic-filled city I don't think power is too important, durability more than anything.
What happened the turkish contender? That one had an extra easy-access wheelchair space with locks and wifi hotspot
why pose with a ford flex in the beginning?
As with Many motorweek road tests the beginning of the video starts out with the previous generation of the car.
Wait the engine and transmission internals are better that the comercial version? How?

LMAO!
Thank you for your van Nissan, let us bring that bad boy down the slalom!
Hey I'm in this
DuctDivaDesigns You go, Diva! Take a selfie.
Makes sense, any competition?
doesn’t the beginning remind you of Crazy taxi
What's a 911 light?
It's lights that the driver can turn on without alerting the passenger. It's used in cases where the driver is hijacked or just needs 911 assistance.

I assume it could be used when ever but the sole purpose is probably when the driver needs assistance.
Can u use it for under ?
Should have done this a long time ago...
what about fuel economy ??
Who cares if every 15000 you have to spend $700.00 for a set of tires - might as well drive a big van.
Ara J Not great... 23MPG city.

Did motor week test drive NV200 uphill and on mountain roads? Let me know the test results. Thanks
Have you found excessive tire wear on your Nissan NV 200? I've seen a video where an owner was seeing tires that were wearing out quite quickly.

Great taxi Nissan
It is a pitty they didn't go for the electric model!!
and Im sure there are still crown vic taxis on the road when these nissan/renault POS's have all blown up from extended use. Ben Davis is hysterical.
150000 warranty? wow
Love you guys! LOLOLOL
I hate these!
Bring back Ford Crown Victoria!
Even if they used MV1 vans, those would be a lot nicer than these if offered as a 6 passenger model.
CVT wonder how Taxi company’s will like the repair bills?
Yeah, and now since covid 19, everyone has left NYC!
isn't the NV200 a Renault Trafic under the skin?
+ishouldgetalif3 Different vehicle.
Ryushi Shiratori well i could also be wrong, but i do know that Renault and Nissan is in a sort of Alliance or Joint Venture as the suits call it.
Why not turbo diesel?
"look at sign!"
Driver speaks only three words of English
wow
Give me a little diesel and I'd drive one of these myself
Lawl
Worst taxi cab ever
speaks english too well to be a NYC cabbie
Worst vehicle of all time
