Love your song. Ive spent the last half hour learning your tune and jamming along with you. Damn it, I wish I could write riffs like that one. Awesome job, great playing.
ive been looking at Telecasters for my70th birthday.. these are great and beautiful. MIK guitars are usually very good quality as they keep up with the MIJs..... thx for the review and that song you played was xclnt.. ill learn it just to freak some younger friends out... lol
I got the same model guitar about a week and a half ago. Did not experience the problem with the nut you did, mine was fine, intonation and saddle height was perfect. just slightly out of tune when I unpacked it, otherwise, perfect. Michael Kelly made a fine guitar here!
Considering possibly buying one of these in the future - probably one of the standard 1953 models with the Rockfield hotted-up single coils. The finish caught me, your original song sold me. I think this might be my Christmas present to myself this year... Great video, killer tune.
Great Song..Awesome Riffs..Have One Myself..Exact Same Model And Colour..I Play Thru A PRS Sonzera 50 Combo And Some Effects..My TS 9 My Mainstay Stacked With A Joyo Overdrive..Love This Guitar..
Before i go to buy a guitar i look on your channel to see if you have it. Looks like I might have to go pick this up considering they just went on sale
Beautiful guitar. Really really good tune you wrote there too! Makes me want to pick my guitar up and crank up the gain and get writing! Michael Kelly guitars look and sound so good, very few shops stock them in the uk so near impossible to get to play one anywhere - anyone played the 1957, and if so how does it compare to an actual Tele, can u still get those Tele tones out of it? Sometimes hard to tell on videos on mobile phone? Looking at either the Baja Tele 60s or 50s or the MK 1957?
The body and necks I think are all the same in their tele range. They differ from a "Fender", due to the Forearm contour. Thats actually why I bought a MK tele. I don't like a flat top guitar with no arm contour. But if you want that classic tele sound, you'll want to check out the 1953, or the CC50 range. The 1953 is an absolute steal for the money.
I just got that guitar in the standard color in 600 😐 but I dont have the nut problem and mine has three big holes in the edge. There are some things that are different so it might be a different model because mine has the strap button on the back of the neck, in the plate. I'm sooo happy with this guitar though
Great pickin' & review Chris and I dug your song so much I plugged in my Tele and jammed along with you. Tight work and where can I hear the song with the lyrics cranked up? Cheers!
Sounds great! Good chance that adjusting the saddle height messed up the intonation. I've noticed it happens when I adjust my saddle height. I have to readjust intonation. You got a nice guitar for the money! I've wanted to build my dream Strat, but after seeing these, I'm tempted to buy one of his Strats!
I have the exact same guitar. I just have fender hardware and pickups and hipshot tuners. Mine is the nashville pickup style though. I put american strat pick ups in it lol. Such a good guitar!
Chris Tompkins your more than welcome, looking at getting a Michael Kelly, also looking at the Prs se 24 custom ......can't make my mind up, you made decision harder now after listening that lol
Personally, I've owned the PRS 24 custom in both the SE model and the S2 model. I like the MK better. Just my opinion. And, I could easily buy 2 of these for the price of the S2.
Holy shit!!!! Love the guitar. Love the review! Love the ripping song!!! And love the stormtrooper shirt!! You my friend are fucking awesome!! RUclips needs more stuff from you!!! Maybe some lessons to teach us??
Haven't played in 30 years but at 61, I'm considering it again. I was never any good. But, I am not blessed with big hands. I have short fingers. I'd love to see more short scale tele/strat type guitars. If I bought a MK I'd have to figure another $200 for a good 24.75" conversion neck. I'm hoping MK considers this as I really like the products. A Patriot? I might but, I've always loved tele/strats. Pretty please? Also, I never really liked the slippery ginish on most Fender style maple fingerboards. Do the maple neck fingerboards have the same "non finish" as the back? Everything about MK guitars ticks off all the right boxes for me. I appreciate good workmanship and these seem to have it all in spades. Thanks. God Bless.
Would you say this is a good modding platform for a guitar? I've built several Strat's myself (including the one in my picture) but i'd like to put a warmoth neck on this with a more modern profile, Bare Knuckle pickups and a gotoh bridge maybe some cts pots.I'm in the market for a tele and just love the specs of the body on this!
I'd keep my eye on the Warmoth "Screamin Deals" section. They offer some crazy nice stuff for very low money. You can get a body with these same specs from Warmoth for very reasonable money too. If you already own this guitar, then yeah man it would be sick to upgrade with what you'd mentioned. But, if you just want this body, get it from Warmoth. You cannot beat the quality.
Here in the UK Warmoth is very expensive due to import tax. I get my necks there but I'd rather have the body finished to be more cost efficient. I'll check it out though! Cheers.
There are no local dealers here local that carry Michael Kelly. I have been looking at getting one. Most everyone I see are playing metal and hard rock. Do they do well for like country or a classic. Maybe something like Waylon Jennings?
Hey man, was looking at getting a low end Gibson Les Paul for mainly bluesy/classic rock and some hard rock but found these guitars and was intrigued by them. After a year if having the guitar what do you think about it and do you think it could fill the roles I'm looking for? Awesome video btw, loved the song
This guitar gets daily use from me. It is perfect for Blues or Rock even Metal or Jazz. It's a jack of all trades guitar for sure. Since this Video, I've put a Seymour Duncan "59" in the bridge position and it's perfect. The stock pickup is really good but the "59" just has a clarity that I love. It wont disappoint you. :)
Nice video sir. Do you still have it? I love the design of these MK axes but I haven't managed to find one with that 'wow' factor for me. I've had Patriots and 1960s S style series. Have yet to try a 1950's T style though. Cheers.
Unsurprisingly, I do not have this anymore. Don't think it's gone because it's inferior or anything like that, though. I just have a gear problem... This guitar is killer! My problem is that I draw inspiration from new instruments and go through them like I go through socks. (actually I've got socks that are older than most of my guitars...) Anyway, I highly recommend you try this. peace!! :)
Chris Tompkins don't worry about that, I feel you there, I too am a gear slut lol. I've owned close to 500 axes by now and just can't help wanting new gear and changing them out. It definitely helps keep me motivated. Cool vids btw, color me subbed.
Nice tone and guitar finish! It's getting more and more difficult the menu to buy guitar these days, even the cheap Asian import made are really competitive, with some electronic upgrades-they compete with popular brands. If u got time and wood skill, you can even make your own, every parts is available everywhere haha. That's my dilemma with my Greg Bennett Samick (Indonesian)- that I want to get rid of to justify myself in getting a new branded one, but my fear is that- what if my cheapie can really sound better, if provided with some upgrade? And so to this date, cheapie Samick is still with me:) . Is this guitar solid or hollow? I really love that tone.
This is a solid body. One of my favorite guitars that I regret selling, was a Samick. TV20, Blues Saraceno model. Wish I'd kept it. So, if you really enjoy your Samick. Keep it. Change the pickups. That's an easy way to get different tones, with spending too muck money. :)
Oh hell mine just got here .neck out High action.a few high frets have a problem with the nut too .and last but not least intonation was way bad almost sent it back
Thanks!! I actually record a dry guitar into my Reaper software. Then, I re-amp and try different amp setting in the ToonTrack ez-mix 2 software. The guitar tones in EZ-Mix are killer!! But, the amp in the room is a Line-6 ApliFi 150. Great amp for practicing. :)
Great tune and review! Tough to hear the vocals, but it sounds like an Alice in Chains vibe on the harmonies. NICE! Still happy with this guitar in July of 2018?
I no longer own this guitar. Though , I did not sell it because I didn't like it. I simply require change after a while and I go through guitars fairly quickly. It's a fantastic instrument.
At some point I will have to make another video for this guitar. I cannot believe how good this sounds in all positions. It's sounds great clean and split.
That sounds pretty Badass chris. That guitar is also pretty sweet to. I have 2 Michael Kelly guitars myself. I think they are awesome. I will not pay for some guitar logo that says Gibson or fender. When all your paying for is the name. Michael Kelly guitars will do just fine for me. Fuck what anyone else thinks. Rock on my friend.
I fixed the pinging nut issue that I had from the factory. I've restrung it with a set of 12's and tuned to "D Standard". This guitar is blissfully good. I live in Massachusetts, so a maple neck usually needs to be adjusted a lot, due to the weather changes. But this has only had to have one adjustment for the string gauge change and that's it! So stable. Total keeper. Michael Kelly for the win!! :)
just got mine same as you but different finish I got the honey quilted. The pick ups seem muddy though. I might need to re-EQ my amp to help. I might get new pick ups.
Because I don't subscribe to the idea that to play a certain style of music, you need a certain style guitar. I've written and recorded some super heavy metal tunes using tele's, strats and even a bid Ole jazz box. If I like the way it looks and feels, I'll use it for damn near anything. Live outside the prescribed ideology. ;)

Came for the review. Stayed for the song. That was awesome, dude!
Thanks!! There's more where that came from, here: koldgrin.bandcamp.com/
Awesome original tune! Loved it. And the guitar sounds amazing!
Love your song. Ive spent the last half hour learning your tune and jamming along with you. Damn it, I wish I could write riffs like that one. Awesome job, great playing.
Wow! That's maybe the coolest compliment I've ever gotten!! Thank you so much!
lol...you're most welcome Chris.

Huge sound from this Axe, great tune too !
You need more subscribers! Better review and demo than guys with thousands of subscribers. Nice chops.
Considering possibly buying one of these in the future - probably one of the standard 1953 models with the Rockfield hotted-up single coils. The finish caught me, your original song sold me. I think this might be my Christmas present to myself this year... Great video, killer tune.
Thanks man! You really can't go wrong with the Michael Kelly brand. I've not yet encountered one that isn't a killer. :)
Ive never heard of these guitars before, but after watching this i am impressed with its beauty and sound
I've played so many of these guitars and I really think that they are the best guitar in their price range, hands down. Thank for watching!! :)
I have this guitar and like it almost as much as I like your song!
great video chris, thanks, very interested in this guitar, sounds awesome,i like your song, has a cool Kings X feel.
Thanks!
I got the 67 Mod Shop. I love Michael Kelly guitars
Nice looking guitar. Nice SOUNDING guitar. 👍🏼
Song was fantastic. Really nice in depth review as well.
Thanks! :)
Cool song! Cool Guitar! Thanks for the review
Very nice. This helped me in my decision to get the black satin finish model. It is currently my fav guitar. Cool tune and nice playing!
Great demo, Chris. solid gtr chops. I was recently turned on to MK guitars.. this is a great, well explained demo! thanks.
Really good tune ,nice job. I just ordered m.k. 55 thanks

Yes. These are VERY versatile. In fact I'd say they are better suited to those styles than they are the hard rock or metal sounds. :)
lookup coil split and coil tapping. nice review and excellent song!
Would love to hear what this guitar really sounds like through a clean channel and not colored by digital software. Nice looking guitar though!
Nice tune 👍
awesome song by the way ;-)

Welcome! In a little while I'm about to actually go try a few. I found a Michael Kelly dealer locally. Heck yeah.
Nice guitar! Love the demo!! You like Kings X? lol Great style!
Love Kings X! The original song in this video is directly inspired by them. :)
Awesome Chris!!
I have this guitar in a different color. You can definitely tell the difference in the coil taps on a cleaner channel.
Nice original!!!!
Where is it made from?
I wish they made their tele with a tremolo bar option

+Chris Tompkins i ordered mine and it just shipped this morning!
AWESOME!!! You are going to love it!!
+Chris Tompkins you will have to post another vid of you playing to another one of your tunes,,,,,i dig that tune on your video
Hey man I see you play PRSs too. How good do the Michael Kellys hold against the Korean PRS SE lines ?
Monsoon Mousson This guitar murders the SE models. I sold my S2 and still have my Michael Kelly's, so.... 😉
Chris Tompkins thanks for the quick response man. Like your videos. They're well informative.
Hey dude - - now that you have had the guitar a few days how do you like it? great tune by the way.
let me put it this way.. my other guitars will be collecting dust for a long time. I have a new favorite guitar sorry PRS....
How heavy?
Is it better than Squier CV tele?
It is, for my needs. However, the Classic Vibe, does the authentic tele thing better.

Probably the sound from the tree retainer
They don't split they do a partial split
Not bad
too old to be playing rock. Im do a clean version for my review.....right now.
