This is one of my favorite songs of video game history. I remember hearing this as a child and listening to the off-beat hi-hats (the little, infrequent tsh-tsh) in the song, and it actually made me think more about rhythm and how songs actually work.
I think this song was my first favorite song.
Even though I didn't grow up listening to it, this song and all the various renditions give me goosebumps. When I played the MK8 version, I swear I felt nostalgic, even though there was nothing to be nostalgic about because I hadn't played MK64 at that time.
+Skydog6301 the first time I heard the chorus was in Mario Kart 7's rainbow road, and when I heard that, it felt/sounded SO FAMILIAR, even though I never heard of Mario Kart 64 until like 1 year later.
My first inklings of how music worked came from listening to Pokemon Yellow/Blue through headphones since the bass and treble came through their own side. Good times.
I love that you picked up on that hi-hat riff. It's one of my favorite things about the song, just adds a tiny bit of funk to those sweeping harmonies.

Guys, this is the easy Rainbow Road. That's why the song is beautiful ad peaceful. It symbolizes the fun, carefree side of Mario Kart. The other, very difficult Rainbow Roads that have epic themes represent the action-packed, crazed side of Mario Kart.
Nice analysis, actually. I always thought that the Super Mario Kart theme represented the insane the concept of a rainbow course without guard rails in space very well :D

I haven't played Mario Kart 8 (and I really want to), but I'm guessing that SNES Rainbow Road on 200CC must be incredibly hard.
+Switch-E SNES RR on 200cc is easier than on 150cc. You can pull off the gap shortcut without any effort, and it's quite hard to fall off actually.
The original version on the other hand...

Rainbow Road in the N64 version is pathetically easy. If you were talking about literally any other game, I'd be inclined to agree with you
Don't be such a dick. I played Mario Kart 64 when I was 6 years old, every game felt like a nightmare then. It's easy to say in hindsight and with all the dramatically superior games nowadays to say Rainbow Road is easy. I was trying to be nostalgic.
I wasn't even being a dick. Even the original Rainbow Road was more stressful. Every RR has a overarching theme and the whole point of the N64 was supposed to be a calm and beautiful journey as noted by the fact that it has rails literally everywhere and the only hazard was one lone chain chomp. Nothing about it is what you said it was.
I hated rainbow road so twisty turvey with the bombs and you could barley see those because of all the rainbow coloring it made my eyes hurt and when you went to fast it was possible to fall off the map. Nightmare.
it is a nightmare because it is an endurance test, so damn boring, and in a game where you take usually 1 1/2 or 2 minutes to finish a race to take 6 full minutes to finish this one jeez

Another fantastic acapella! I've been watching a bit of Mario Kart 8 gameplay recently and...just wow. It's astonishing to see how complex this game has become, the comparison to my childhood racing game to how it is now is unbelievable. Mario Kart 64 looks so...simple now, but it always seemed amazing to us at the time. It's always got a place in my nostalgic heart.

I will always see this as THE rainbow road tune, the "true one". I know there's SMK, but the N64 version has been remade in several other RRs (and just sounds awesome all the time *.*)

My childhood in one song right here. I freaking loved Mario Kart 64 as a kid. Unfortunately, I never had my own copy of it, but my brother and I always played it at our aunt's house since our step-uncle had it, and man, I have so many fond memories from this game, and this song, a song I couldn't really forget. Yeah, I'm starting to get all dramatically emotional and all that stuff, but hey, it's a great song!
This is real talent! Man, the quality and everything is soo great! It is such a shame that you havent blown up yet so that the world could see your talent.
It's incredible, how happy you look when you're making these. It's wonderful to see it. Even if you were terrible at making these (which, you definitely, definitely are NOT!! :D), it'd be worth watching your videos just to see someone taking so much joy in what they do.

Carol Paiva Rainbow road is the longest track and I think the funniest because if you have toad place 4th theres a glitch where he just sits there and does nothing everybody runs into him

It also has online multiplayer in which there can be twelve players on top of the classic four player local. ***** Couldn't disagree more. The N64 controller had exellent accuracy, better than most analog sticks of today. The design was flawed though and if you weren't careful with the pressure applied to the stick you wore it out pretty quick leaving it loose and unresponsive.
