This game is alive still because of Wiimmfi as well as these glitches keeping the time trial crowd around. I heard something like 500-1,000 people still concurrently play? Which is pretty nuts for being 16 years old this year

Nintendo when they had to design the tracks of the game: let’s delete some of the invisible barriers on the tracks to optimize better the game.
Nintendo: let’s give karts better mini turbos and bikes wheelies, so that karts are better on turns and bikes are better on straightaways.
Also Nintendo: let’s give some bikes inside drifts so that they’re better on turns
That thumbnail made laugh so hard because I like the duplication character glitch for your character as a thumbnail.😂
The random specific vehicle requirements with the offroader and wario bike are so crazy
meanwhile in mk8dx: *slightly hits a wall and goes in a 90 degree angle*
I would always use the duplicate characters glitch with friends so no one had to argue over who gets to play who
On the subject of the split screen character glitch, way back when (maybe like 8-10 years ago) my brother and I were playing, and somehow someway, while both trying to select dry bones first, we both landed on him on what seemed the same frame, and we knew that normally wasn't possible, and it was WILD, we were on battle mode and literally one of us was upside down in the kart; it was hilarious XD
This is a certified classic game
I still remember going to my cousins house on New Year's Eve and playing board games and Mario kart wii and whenever i see this game again after so many years, it just makes me smile uncontrollably

i remember knowing about the splitscreen same character glitch and trying to use it, but not knowing exactly how to pull it off so I mostly just went in and exited the character select menu until it worked.

Thanks for bringing back suppressed memories of why I hated bikes in Mario Kart Wii. I think a big reason I haven't played any Mario Kart game released after this is because of the horrid memories of how stupidly fast they were. At least now I know they're actually broken.

My idea is that faster bikes need inside drift in order to make sharper turns without bumping into a wall or going offroad. A slower kart or bike would be able to make it just fine with outside drift.

No mention of the most notable jank commoners are more likely to find imo, which is that to thanks to the game's physics, there's a part in rainbow road where you can bump into a wall in one side of the track get bumped off the other side. In the part right after the big holes and before you get launched i had it happen to me all the time

Btw, disclaimer, the down inputs doesnt matter with anything at all with supersliding. I used a Gecko Code there to let my analog inputs alternate between neutral every 2 other frames while holding down pad, just a disclaimer. Thanks for credits!

Idc the game is broken. This game made my childhood and i never found any of these glitches. To me, this was the best game ever.
Just so you know, SNES Mario Circuit 3 has a glitch if you allow feathers to be used, but we probably don't count that because it requires a mod

0:54 the wheelies during chain drifts don’t make you go any faster, they just make the chain drift easier
2:20 MC3 does actually have a glitch category in tas due to superhopping, making 32/32 tracks with multiple categories

I'm not gonna lie I was hoping for a section on Funky Kong set to "Meta Knight's Revenge," even if that wouldn't make sense for Mario Kart Wii.
There needs to be a spiritual successor to MKWii that has all the same jank, but deliberate.

honestly, MKDS is pretty jank, and some of the glitches are in a similar vein, but like
it feels more like the SNES F Zero of Mario Kart games (which, on that note, F Zero 99 does a DAMN good job of emulating)
its complete and utter chaos in 150cc and i love it

Mario kart wii, as its meta is already defined and will probably never change, the core gameplay feels satisfying enough to keep a large amount of people playing online thru Wimmfii or CTGP constantly. It's "fun broken". It is still imo the best mario kart game.

The fact that you haven't mentioned Funky Kong and why it's undoubtedly the best character in the game (and arguably the only good one) to the point it's close to 100 % you're gonna find at least half of your opponents in any online race using him is really odd to say the least.
The reason I didn't mention him is because using him hardly makes a real difference. His speed bonus - at least, when playing online - is barely noticeable.
To put it into perspective, when another character using the Flame Runner would be wheelieing at around 95 KMH, Funky using the Flame Runner would be wheelieing at around 96 KMH.
In time trials, using Funky (or Daisy) is a lot more important, since it's about getting the fastest, most optimized time possible.
