10 years ago at the age of 17, my daughter had open heart surgery to repair a leaky mitral valve. She a severe case of mitral regurgitation. In October of this year, we completed the 2023 Chicago Marathon together. She too was worried that she might damage her heart by running a marathon but her cardiologist checked her out and gave his approval to run as fast and as far as she wanted to run. Your story and hers are truly inspring.

That’s awesome! It’s so nice knowing there are others out there living their life and soaking it all end. I love it!

Thanks for sharing! Really interesting to hear about different backgrounds and how people got into running. I really appreciate all the hard work you’ve done to get this point of your running journey 💪 Kudos from 🇫🇮
At 39 I had heart attack and went thru emergency balloon angioplasty (heart conditions run in my family as well) and had to make a chance for the better. In less than year I struggled to start running, lose 55lbs and eventually signed up for 10week training plan for half marathon. Now at 40 I’m healthier than before and in best shape of my adult life. I think surviving a serious medical condition gives us a will power to change our lives for the better. It hasn’t been easy nor will be in the future with all medications and their side effects but pushing thru and being consistent will help me see another better day.
All in all you got a new subscriber here and I wouldn’t mind to hear more about your journey running after such health issues.

Always inspired by your story! I didn’t go through what you did, but I came to running with zero athletic experience and about 30 lbs heavier. It’s amazing what running does for us physically and mentally ❤

Thanks for sharing your story. I can see how you were afraid to really stress your heart after the surgery. That would have also been my fear. Glad you got beyond that and have now become quite the accomplished runner that you are. Gotta ask, how is your brother doing?

Thank you! He is doing well. He, too, changed his diet up and started getting some daily exercise in. Much better path than before. Thanks for asking!

I randomly came across your video.. I live with a heart condition for which I had surgery at 4 years old. Take 4 blood pressure medications to keep it under control and yearly check ups. I'm about your age (I'm 33) and it doesn't stop me much at all, just played 2 hours of full court basketball tonight. I honestly don't how much the meds impact me (have been taking them so long) or if I'm just getting older but it's worth the trade off. Thank you for sharing your story!
